Xubuntu - Apps Become Unresponsive Intermittently

Possibly Relevant Information: XUbuntu 12.04 LTS (precise) XFCE 4.8 AMD Graphics (Kernel driver in use: fglrx_pci, Kernel modules: fglrx, radeon) The primary symptom of this issue has been my active rdesktop session to stop responding while everything else appears to work normally. I have been killing rdesktop and re-launching it, with it freezing after a seemingly random time period. The fastest was within seconds. The longest was a couple hours, although it's usually within a few minutes. That being said, I have occasionally seen the terminal and web browsers also become unresponsive to keyboard input. They respond to clicks and will accept middle clicks (to paste text) without issue while remaining unresponsive to the keyboard input. I have been able to restore all functionality, including rdesktop, by switching workspaces and typing on the other workspace, then returning to the original workspace. What is being reset when I do this? What does this work-around/solution indicate may be the problem?

Working environment

I realise that this might not be the right place to ask questions about employment and that the question my raise debate etc. The company I work for recently decided that rather than having one web developer working on sites from a branch it would be better to make that person come into head office and work in the middle of a busy call centre. Also they're expecting the developer to answer the phone if it rings and take messages. Does anyone find that strange? Is it really the right place for a programmer to work? Thanks for the advice

Internet connectivity issues

I'm on 12.04, I upgraded a month ago from Windows 7 on my Sony VAIO. Everything is great except after the upgrade, I encountered Internet connectivity issues. When browsing the web or loading videos, my Internet will stop working in the middle and come back after a period of 30 seconds to 2 minutes or sometimes it just won't and I'll have to disconnect and re-connect to the network. I've noticed the issue when sending e-mails as well, they just won't send at all. It says sending request and the circle keeps spinning slowly until I get to a page where it says the page wouldn't load and gives me the reason DNS error. I tried setting OpenDNS as my DNS provider but that didn't help.

Android Resume Activity

In my app, I start an activity and then on button click, display an http url (using Intent - VIEW_ACTION) So when in the middle of the activity, if the user clicks the button called "Google", it opens up google.com in the browser. When I hit the back button, it comes back to my original activity screen. How can I get my activity to resume from where it left of? Thanks George

Defining InputBindings within a Style

I'm creating a WPF app using the MVVM design pattern, and I'm trying to extend the TabItem control so that it closes the tab when the user clicks the middle mouse button. I'm trying to achieve this using InputBindings, and it works very well until I try to define it within a style. I've learned that you cannot add InputBindings to a style unless you attach it using a DependencyProperty. So I followed this similar post here... and it works... almost. I can close one tab using the middle mouse button, but it won't work on any of the other tabs (all of the tabs are added at runtime and inherit the same style). So I need some help. Why would this only be working the first time, and not after? Obviously I could create a custom control that inherits from a TabItem and make it work, but I'd like to figure this out as I can see this being expanded in my projects. Refactoring method with many conditional return statements

Hi, I have a method for validation that has many conditional statements. Basically it goes If Check1 = false return false If Check2 = false return false etc FxCop complains that the cyclomatic complexity is too high. I know that it is not best practice to have return statements in the middle of functions, but at the same time the only alternative I see is an ugly list of If-else statements. IE7 Image float bug.

LyX - breaking long formula lines

How can I break long formulas in LyX into two (or more) lines? I know how to write several lines of equations in one "math box" but I'm looking for a solution to break lines even in the middle of a parenthesis. I'm using LyX 1.6.4 and currently, when the formula is too big, it doesn't do anything (it just doesn't print the last segment of it, which is "beyond" the page). Is this possible in LyX?

RichTextBox CaretPosition physical location

Hi, I'm using a RichTextBox class to make some automatic text formatting. And mz question is, how do I get the RichTextBox to put some string immediately after the caret. When I use RichTextBox.CaretPosition.InsertTextInRun("some string") the text is inserted after the current logical block, but I need to be insterted immediately after the caret, in the middle of a Run block. I think the video window is covering the whole area. How can I solve that?

Fixing LOD gaps, T-junctions

I'm creating a heightmap renderer. One of the examples for solving gaps when doing LOD I found is this: (from Game Programming Gems 2 - Greg Snook - Simplified Terrain using Interlocking Tiles) Wouldn't this still produce a gap, if the three vertices encircled with red were not co-linear? Shouldn't the middle triangle be split into two, as I marked with the orange line? Am I misunderstanding the problem, or is there a mistake in the example?

Hi, I have a question from my homework. I think my teacher needs an algorithm like quick select for this question is this correct? The question: Following a program (Subroutine) as a "black box" is given (for example, inside it is not clear and we do not even inside it) with the worst case linear time, can find the middle of n elements. Using this black box, get a simple linear algorithm that takes input i and find the element which its rank is equal to i (among the n elements) Thanks.
