  • Ubuntu in USB.. Boot from fixed HDD?

    I am having Ubuntu 12.04 minimal installed on my USB pen-drive; which I use on several systems as portable OS. I was thinking to edit the boot parameters so that before the main Ubuntu OS is loaded, it shows an option to Boot from Hard Drive for 5 seconds, and then boots to Ubuntu. This way i'll be able to have an option to boot to the OS installed on the Hard-Drive, without removing or unplugging my ubuntu USB stick. How do I edit the boot parameters to achieve this?

  • Xenserver 5.6 SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_47 no such volume group, but it is there

    I've looked everywhere (Google, here, a bunch of other sites), and while I have found people with similar problems, I couldn't find a single one with a solution to this. Last night our xenserver 5.6 box corrupted the /var/xapi/state.db, and I couldn't fix the xml, no matter what I did. After a good hour fiddling with the file, I figured it would be faster to just reinstall. The server had one 2tb hard drive running Xen and its VMs, and since Xen's install said it would erase the hard drive it was installed on, I plugged a new harddrive and installed Xen on it, without selecting any hard drives for storage. I Figured I could make it happen after install, using the partition on the old harddrive with all my VMs on it.     I formatted an external USB harddrive while it was connected to a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server Std. edition server. After loading it up with files, I moved it to my Windows XP SP3 where it didn't show up automatically in My Computer. I opened up Computer ManagementDisk Management and see it listed as a "Health (GPT Protective Parititon)". What's up with that? Can I mount it?

    Hi Gurus, I am trying to install Xenserver on a Dell precision 490 workstation. After booting into the install wizard and next-ed a few times, On the disk step, it only shows physical harddrive but not the RAID (RAID-10) volume that I set up on the Dell RAID. Is there a special option that I have to set on the boot? or do I need a special driver for this? Please Advise Thanks

When I boot up, though, despite setting harddrive priority in the BIOS, the system sometimes boots the main drive, sometimes boots the backup. My system dual-boots Xubuntu and Windows XP, if that means anything to you. Any ideas?

    I'm thinking about encrypting my whole harddrive for example using TrueCrypt, which I've used for encrypting file containers for a while. It is possible to encrypt the whole harddisk through the program and then add a password secured bootloader before the actual bootloader. Is it possible to do this on a dualboot system with Windows 7 and Fedora 15 currently using Grub as the main bootloader? If so, is it possible to reinstall a system later or will that ruin the whole setup? Thanks

I burned the iso to a dvd and loaded up the live session user and used "Install to harddrive" but when I get to the partitioning window there is no harddrives to install to so I cant overwrite the windows drive (/C:).. Help?

I am not able to get the drive to mount with write capability, how do I do that?   • Cloning Windows 7 to Another Machine

    I am trying to clone a Windows 7 Install from one machine to others, in a computer lab situation. I have used clonezilla to make an image of the machine's harddrive and then attempted to write that image to a second machine's disk. Everything went fine, but when I try to boot Windows 7 on the second machine I get a blue screen flash and then it tries to run the startup repair tool, which runs unsuccessfully. Is there something new with Windows 7 that keeps it from being cloned like this?
