    I have a "working" Replication Set in SQL 2005 that we use in house to our users at remote branches on SQL Express 2005. I want to apply a filter to our biggest Set to help minimize the bandwidth impact. What I am asking is what considerations do I need to take into account before throwing a filter on there. Will it cause any issues I should be aware of? Does it affect compression adversely. Will everyone need to reinitialize after applying it? Any heads up or insight would be appreciated. Thanks,

  • How to prevent Project ASP.NET Configuration and Team Foundation Server from fighting

    So, I am using visual studio 2005 (and team explorer 2005) with tfs 2008. I have installed both Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and VS80sp1-KB932544-X86-ENU.exe. I perform the following steps: Select Project-ASP.NET Configuration within Visual Studio 2005. Within Visual Studio 2005, attempt to perform either a check-in or a checkout. The following happens: The local server started by Visual Studio starts closing itself. I suspect it is crashing; the systray icons are not properly disposed of. It then reopens itself. It does this over and over again, maybe once every second or two. The TFS progress meter doesn't even budge, it just sits there. Canceling out of the checkout does not work; it says it is cancelling and does nothing. Any suggestions?

    I have an internal SQL Server 2005 database "ADMIN_DATA" that is used by admin users. We would like to sync three of the database tables in ADMIN_DATA out to another SQL Server 2005 database "WEB_DATA", which is used by a public web app. WEB_DATA is read-only - only SELECT statements are allowed, while ADMIN_DATA is updated all the time. What is the best solution? How can this be accomplished with minimal custom coding and/or changes to database tables? Notes: ADMIN_DATA and WEB_DATA are different physical machines and on different subnets. The syncing operation doesn't need to be instantaneous.

Each GPS device daily data quantity is: 24 * 60 * 2 = 2,880 10 000 10,000 GPS devices daily data quantity is: 10000 * 2880 = 28,800,000 Each GPS data approximately 160Byte, the amount of data per day is: 28,800,000 * 160 = 4.29GB We need hold at least 3 months of GPS data in the database, My question is: 1, whether SQL Server 2005 can support such a large amount of data store? 2, How to plan data table? (all GPS data storage in one table? Daily table? Each GPS device with a GPS data table?) I have here two PCs in my home and were connected via router. PC 1 has SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server Management Studio 2005 Express while PC 2 has only SQL Server 2005 Express.     I'd like to have a macro in Visual Studio 2005 that calls a DOS command and redirects the output (stdout and stderr) to a file. Just calling the command and "" redirecting it will not capture stderr, so there are two parts to this: calling a DOS command capturing both stderr and stdout to a file during that call I'd then like to open this file in Visual Studio after the command completes. My sqlserver is running on port:1433 I am using port forwarding , I can access service of other ports, My Connetion String Is: Data Source=190.190.200.100,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User ID=myUsername;Password=myPassword; But it gives following error when i am trying to connect sql server through internet: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)

  • Hourly SQL Server 2005 Slowness (Possibly caused by SYSTEM)

    We're trying to diagnose the cause of slowness on our Database server. We're running the latest rev SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2008x64. The behavior that we're seeing is this: We see the SYSTEM process spike one of the CPUs for about 2 minutes, during this time SQL server slows down by a factor of 10. The slowness lasts until SYSTEM is done, then in an hour everything starts again. During these slowdowns disk writes don't spike, paging doesn't spike, the only noticeable precursor we see is that SYSTEM maxes out one of the sixteen (HT)CPUs. Note that this doesn't happen at the top of the hour, it just happens once an hour, and it shifts a bit depending on the length of the incident. At the moment this is causing intermittent slowdowns, but when the server is really busy it can cause Worker Thread starvation. The server is a Dual Quad Dell R710 with 96GB of RAM and RAID10 data/log disks. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? Does anyone know where we should look? I installed on a Vista x64 machine Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (with integrated SQL from the installation package) and when I try to add an MDF file to a project or to the App_Data when working with web, I get the following message: Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl: http:go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=49251. Just to make sure: SQL 2005 express is installed and I connect to it via SSMS. Update: I am 90% sure that this is a Microsoft bug with x64 machines.

  • SQL Server 2005 Default Backup Plan

    I noticed that a newly imported database on SQLServer 2005 had configured itself (without my knowledge) to perform daily backups; but it's not deleting old files and quickly filling up the disk. I don't know how the backup job got configured (maybe that's something that gets transferred when you move a database?) but I'm having trouble modifying it. The backup runs as part of SQL Server Agent job called "Daily Backups". This job runs a package called "(SSIS Packages)\Maintenance Plans\Backup Plan" -- which I can't find. The "Management\Maintenance Plans" area for my server is empty. I imagine I could delete the existing plan and re-create it manually, but I was hoping to just modify what was already there, since all that's missing is deleting old files.

    3 SQL server agents stopped and didn't restart automatically untill we manually restarted them. SQL servers are on SQL 2005 X86 standard edition. The error message that was reported in Application log was: Faulting application sqlagent90.exe, version 2005.90.4211.0, stamp 49837478, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480, stamp 49c51f0a, debug? 0, fault address 0x0000bef7. No errors were reported in SQL server logs or SQl agent logs. Does anyone know what this means? I tried to Google but no luck. Thanks in advance!

    All right, here is the deal: I'm connecting to a Windows 2003 Server using VPN. On this server, there is a remote SQL Server 2005 Express engine. I can connect to the database using Visual Studio 2008. What I can't do though, is connect to this same database with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio (Standard). I have checked the connection info a hundred times and still nothing. One thought: do VS ans SSMS use the same sql provider? Note: I'm running Windows 7 RC. I had absolutely no problem using the same config under Vista. This is the error I get when trying to connect with SSMS:

    We have a number of MS SQL servers in our environment running either SQL Server 2005 standard/enterprise or SQL server 2008 enterprise. Currently the SQL services are running as local service or network service and the MS recommended best practice is to run as a domain account which is what we are trying to move towards. Is the best practice with regards to domain accounts to have a separate domain account per service per server? So if we have 4 SQL services we want to run per server and we have 50 servers, we would create 50 * 4 = 200 accounts in AD? This seems excessive to me and I was wondering if anyone has any real experience with this type of setup and it's management.

  • SQL Server 2005 transactional replication break before a configured number of retries

    We have a SQL Server 2000 Standard database with some tables being replicated (continuous transactional replication) to dozens of SQL Server 2005 Express and MSDE computers. The step 2 of the replication agent job (Run agent) is configured by default to retry every 1 minute for 10 times if some problem ocurr. Because the client machines get shut down at night (they are POS machines), we changed the number of retries to 5760 (4 days), so replication would not be broken at night and would not need to be restarted manually. But the problem is that every other day we have at least one machine with broken replication, with this error: The process could not connect to Subscriber 'POS986'. NOTE: The step was retried the requested number of times (5760) without succeeding. The step failed. It seems that SQL Server is not respecting the number of retries or the interval between retries as we configured. PS: I have restarted the replication job after changing the number of retries from 10 to 5760.
