  • How to make VB to execute my SQL SP with parameters?

    - by fema
Hi, I have a database in MS SQL Server 2008, I have Stored Procedures. One of them does an INSERT with parameters. It works in Server Management Studio. Now I'd like to make a button in Visual Basic 2008 that executes this SP. I have made a DataSet, it contains my 3 SP's, I can easily use 2 of them, because they return data, but the one I'm having trouble with doesn't. Could anyone please tell me how to make VB to execute it? (The command should look like this: "EXECUTE SP2 a, b, c, d".) Thanks in advance

  • oracle plsql: retrieve runtime parameter values when you call a procedure

    - by Luca Vaccaro
I need a generalized method to get list of runtime parameters (values) when I call a procedure. I need something similar to the $$PLSQL_UNIT that returns the name of the running procedure. (plsql Oracle 10g) E.g. look at this sample procedure: (it simply prints its own name and parameters ) CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE MY_PROC(ow in varchar2, tn IN varchar2) IS BEGIN dbms_output.put_line('proc_name: '||$$PLSQL_UNIT||' parameters: '|| ow||' '||tn ); EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('ERRORE: ' ||SQLERRM); END MY_PROC; / Running procedure produces the following output: SQL> 1 BEGIN 2 IBAD_OWN.MY_PROC('first_par', 'second_par'); 3 END; 4 / proc_name: MY_PROC parameters: first_par second_par PL/SQL procedure successfully completed. I'm not satisfy because I can't copy and paste in all my procedures because I have to hard code each procedure to set their right parameter variables. Thanks in advance for the help.

  • MS SQL SELECT stored procedure according to combobox.selectedvalue

    - by Jay
Hello, In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing it, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. This is what's in my class: Public Function GetAankoopDetails(ByRef DisplayMember As String, ByRef ValueMember As String) As DataTable DisplayMember = "AankoopDetailsID" ValueMember = "AankoopDetailsID" If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function Public Function GetAankoopDetails() As DataTable If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function This is the function in the code behind the form I've written in order to fill the datagridview: Private Sub GridAankoopDetails_Fill() Try Me.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = Nothing _clsAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID = cboKeuze.SelectedValue dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = _clsAankoopDetails.GetAankoopDetails Catch ex As Exception MessageBox.Show("An error occurred while trying to fill the data grid: " & ex.Message, "Oops!", MessageBoxButtons.OK) Finally Me.Cursor = Cursors.Default End Try End Sub And finally, this is my stored procedure: (do note that I'm not sure what I'm doing here) USE [Budget] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] Script Date: 04/12/2010 03:10:52 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] ( @AankoopID int, @ReturnValue int output ) AS declare @Value int set @Value =@@rowcount if @Value = 0 begin SELECT dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Aantal, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Prijs, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Korting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.SoortKorting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID FROM dbo.tblAankoopDetails INNER JOIN dbo.tblAankoop ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = dbo.tblAankoop.AankoopID INNER JOIN dbo.tblArtikel ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID = dbo.tblArtikel.ArtikelID INNER JOIN dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID = dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep.UitgavenDeelGroepID WHERE dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Deleted = 0 and dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = @AankoopID ORDER BY AankoopID if @@rowcount >0 begin set @ReturnValue=999 end else begin set @ReturnValue=997 end end if @Value >0 begin --Dit wil zeggen dat ik een gebruiker wil ingeven die reeds bestaat. • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14' Could not find stored procedure

    - by BBlake
I am migrating a classic ASP web app to new servers. The database back end is migrating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008, and the app is moving from Win2000 x86 to Win2003R2 x64. I am getting the above error on every single stored procedure call within the application. I have verified: Yes, the SQL user is set up, using correct username and password Yes, the SQL user has execute permissions on the stored procedures in the database Yes, I have updated the TypeLib references to the new UUID Yes, I have logged into the database via SSMS with the SQL user id and it can see and execute the stored procedures just fine in SSMS, but not from the web app. Yes, the SQL user has the database set as its default database. The most frustrating thing is it works fine on the DEV server, but not on the production server. I have gone through every IIS setting 5 or 6 times and the web app is set up precisely the same in both environments. The only difference is the database server name in the connection string (DEV vs prod) EDIT: I have also tried pointing the prod web box at the dev database server and get the same error so I'm fairly sure the issue isn't on the database side.

  • Execute Stored Procedure from Classic ASP

    - by Jaco Pretorius
For some fantastic reason I find myself debugging a problem in a Classic ASP page (at least 10 years of my life lost in the last 2 days). I'm trying to execute a stored procedure which contains some OUT parameters. The problem is that one of the OUT parameters is not being populated when the stored procedure returns. I can execute the stored proc from SQL management studio (this is 2008) and all the values are being set and returned exactly as expected. declare @inVar1 varchar(255) declare @inVar2 varchar(255) declare @outVar1 varchar(255) declare @outVar2 varchar(255) SET @inVar2 = 'someValue' exec theStoredProc @inVar1 , @inVar2 , @outVar1 OUT, @outVar2 OUT print '@outVar1=' + @outVar1 print '@outVar2=' + @outVar2 Works great. Fantastic. Perfect. The exact values that I'm expecting are being returned and printed out. Right, since I'm trying to debug a Classic ASP page I copied the code into a VBScript file to try and narrow down the problem. Here is what I came up with: Set Conn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Conn.Open "xxx" Set objCommandSec = CreateObject("ADODB.Command") objCommandSec.ActiveConnection = Conn objCommandSec.CommandType = 4 objCommandSec.CommandText = "theStoredProc " objCommandSec.Parameters.Refresh objCommandSec.Parameters(2) = "someValue" objCommandSec.Execute MsgBox(objCommandSec.Parameters(3)) Doesn't work. Not even a little bit. (Another ten years of my life down the drain) The third parameter is simply NULL - which is what I'm experiencing in the Classic ASP page as well. Could someone shed some light on this? Am I completely daft for thinking that the classic ASP code would be the same as the VBScript code? I think it's using the same scripting engine and syntax so I should be ok, but I'm not 100% sure. The result I'm seeing from my VBScript is the same as I'm seeing in ASP.

  • return only the last select results from stored procedure

    - by Madalina Dragomir
The requirement says: stored procedure meant to search data, based on 5 identifiers. If there is an exact match return ONLY the exact match, if not but there is an exact match on the not null parameters return ONLY these results, otherwise return any match on any 4 not null parameters... and so on My (simplified) code looks like: create procedure xxxSearch @a nvarchar(80), @b nvarchar(80)... as begin select whatever from MyTable t where ((@a is null and t.a is null) or (@a = t.a)) and ((@b is null and t.b is null) or (@b = t.b))... if @@ROWCOUNT = 0 begin select whatever from MyTable t where ((@a is null) or (@a = t.a)) and ((@b is null) or (@b = t.b))... if @@ROWCOUNT = 0 begin ... end end end As a result there can be more sets of results selected, the first ones empty and I only need the last one. I know that it is easy to get the only the last result set on the application side, but all our stored procedure calls go through a framework that expects the significant results in the first table and I'm not eager to change it and test all the existing SPs. Is there a way to return only the last select results from a stored procedure? Is there a better way to do this task ?

  • Retreive value stored in array with jquery index

    - by Dustin
I am trying to retreive the stored value (div id) of an index stored in var "current" when it's div is clicked, so I can use it in a function to iterate through to the next index later. I want to store this stored value in a var so I can use it in a div show/hide function. my html is quite simple: <div class="gallerypreview" id="1"></div> <div class="gallerypreview" id="2"></div> <div class="gallerypreview" id="3"></div> my javascript is something like this: var images = new Array(); $(document).ready( function(){ $('.gallerypreview').each(function() { images.push($(this).attr("id")); }); $('.gallerypreview').click(function() { var current = $('.gallerypreview').index(this); }); }); how would I go about retrieving the div id from this clicked div? nothing I have tried has worked. I can get the index # fine, but I cannot find the value of the index using any functions that utilize the index # yet.

  • How to salvage SQL server 2008 query from KILLED/ROLLBACK state?

    - by littlegreen
I have a stored procedure that inserts batches of millions of rows, emerging from a certain query, into an SQL database. It has one parameter selecting the batch; when this parameter is omitted, it will gather a list of batches and recursively call itself, in order to iterate over batches. In (pseudo-)code, it looks something like this: CREATE PROCEDURE spProcedure AS BEGIN IF @code = 0 BEGIN ... WHILE @@Fetch_Status=0 BEGIN EXEC spProcedure @code FETCH NEXT ... INTO @code END END ELSE BEGIN -- Disable indexes ... INSERT INTO table SELECT (...) -- Enable indexes ... Now it can happen that this procedure is slow, for whatever reason: it can't get a lock, one of the indexes it uses is misdefined or disabled. In that case, I want to be able kill the procedure, truncate and recreate the resulting table, and try again. However, when I try and kill the procedure, the process frequently oozes into a KILLED/ROLLBACK state from which there seems to be no return. From Google I have learned to do an sp_lock, find the spid, and then kill it with KILL <spid>. But when I try to kill it, it tells me SPID 75: transaction rollback in progress. Estimated rollback completion: 0%. Estimated time remaining: 554 seconds. I did find a forum message hinting that another spid should be killed before the other one can start a rollback. But that didn't work for me either, plus I do not understand, why that would be the case... could it be because I am recursively calling my own stored procedure? (But it should be having the same spid, right?) In any case, my process is just sitting there, being dead, not responding to kills, and locking the table. This is very frustrating, as I want to go on developing my queries, not waiting hours on my server sitting dead while pretending to be finishing a supposed rollback. Is there some way in which I can tell the server not to store any rollback information for my query? Or not to allow any other queries to interfere with the rollback, so that it will not take so long? Or how to rewrite my query in a better way, or how kill the process successfully without restarting the server?

  • Large number of UPDATE queries slowing down page

    - by Bryan Lewis
I am reading and validating large fixed-width text files (range from 10-50K lines) that are submitted via our ASP.net website (coded in VB.Net). I do an initial scan of the file to check for basic issues (line length, etc). Then I import each row into a MS SQL table. Each DB rows basically consists of a record_ID (Primary, auto-incrementing) and about 50 varchar fields. After the insert is done, I run a validation function on the file that checks each field in each row based on a bunch of criteria (trimmed length, isnumeric, range checks, etc). If it finds an error in any field, it inserts a record into the Errors table, which has an error_ID, the record_ID and an error message. In addition, if the field fails in a particular way, I have to do a "reset" on that field. A reset might consist of blanking the entire field, or simply replacing the value with another value (e.g. replacing the string with a new one that has all illegals chars taken out). I have a 5,000 line test file. The upload, initial check, and import takes about 5-6 seconds. The detailed error check and insert into the Errors table takes about 5-8 seconds (this file has about 1200 errors in it). However, the "resets" part takes about 40-45 seconds for 750 fields that need to be reset. When I comment out the resets function (returning immediately without actually calling the UPDATE stored proc), the process is very fast. With the resets turned on, the pages take 50 seconds to return. My UPDATE stored proc is using some recommended code from http://sommarskog.se/dynamic_sql.html, whereby it uses CASE instead of dynamic SQL: UPDATE dbo.Records SET dbo.Records.file_ID = CASE @field_name WHEN 'file_ID' THEN @field_value ELSE file_ID END, . . (all 50 varchar field CASE statements here) . WHERE dbo.Records.record_ID = @record_ID Is there any way I can help my performance here. Can I somehow group all of these UPDATE calls into a single transaction? Should I be reworking the UPDATE query somehow? Or is it just sheer quantity of 750+ UPDATEs and things are just slow (it's a quad proc server with 8GB ram). Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Insert data into SQL server with best performance

    - by Incognito
I have an application which intensively uses DB (SQL Server). As it must have high performance I would like to know the fastest way to insert record into DB.Fastest from the standpoint of execution time. What should I use ? As I know the fastest way is to create stored procedure and to call it from code (ADO.NET). Please let me know is there any better way or may be there are is some other practices to increase performance.
