• svn working copy spanning 2 physical drives?

  I have a large repository hosted on dreamhost that I backup daily on a remote machine using a windows scheduled task which updates the working copy located on an external USB 300GB drive connected to the remote machine. The 300GB drive is nearly full with only 26GB of free space remaining. Recently I added a second USB external 1TB drive to increase storage capacity. I would like to ask: what is the best way to use the new 1TB drive? Is it possible to span the working copy across both drives (ex: somehow create a 1.3 TB drive)? If I copied the working copy from the 300GB to the 1TB would svn continue form do I need to retarget the update working copy script to the new 1TB drive and start downloading everything again (least desired option) thanks

• SVN Attribution Plugin?

  I'm using SVN with Google Code Project Hosting for a school project. As the codebase increases in size, I often find myself wondering questions like: "who originally checked in this line of code?" "who has been checking in the most code recently?" "Of the final product, how much of it was written by Person X?" "Which coder is best at adhering to the coding conventions?" Is there any plugin available to do this? (If not, I would be interested in developing one myself. Any ideas on where to get started on that?) We're using Visual Studio 2008 with the AnkhSVN plugin.

• Tortoise SVN does not give option to "Add to SVN"

  I've created an SVN repository and added folders and added contents and Committed. No problem. But when go to add a new folder (the others were on the P:\ drive, now I want to add our website which is on the C:\ drive) but Tortoise doesn't give me the option of Adding a folder. I have no idea why. Help file shows the instructions I'd expect ("right click on the folder you want to add and choose +Add...") but Add... isn't in the menu. This is TortoiseSVN v 1.6.7.18415 (I'm about to update it but I was able to add folders before so I don't think this is just a bug, I think maybe I'm missing something obvious).

  I am a basic SVN user now trying to learn GIT for a new position. I am trying the usual reading docs and watching videos. However after doing all that I still feel that there is a lot that I do not know. I was wondering if there is a place like project Euler for programming languages, that provides a series of exercises that you can do just to increase your confidence and test your knowledge about a version control system. Something thats generic enough and gets you up to speed with how to do basic things. This could also serve as a comparison point of sorts between multiple VCSs, that would show what things are easy in which VCS. If there is nothing I was planning to document my journey in learning GIT and the create an exercise of this sort.

• Nested svn repositories

  I got a "Project A" in repository. But in that project I'm using a library, which is hosted on Google Code. There is my question: is there any way, to have that library files "hooked" to Google Code SVN, and simultaneously my project in my repo (it's parent to that library), so I can commit library files into my repository when I decide, that outer project revision is ok? I've tried to do checkout in the library folder, files were downloaded from Google's Code repository. But I that case wasn't able to add them to my repository - they weren't visible in "Add" window.

  Hi, I have a scenario in my project where I need to share a single file between multiple projects in the same solution. Back in my Visual Source Safe days (Shudder), I'd use the "Share" option to allow me to make changes to this file in any of the locations. Then once it was checked in I could guarantee that the other locations will get the update. I'm trying to do this in Subversion but I can't seem to find the option anywhere. I do know about svn:externals however I'm only interested in sharing a single file between multiple locations. Does anyone know how to do this in Subversion? Thanks

How do I merge (?) multiple branches into the release tag, while still maintaining diffs and such? I've given an example of our workflow below. • SVN is not recognizing the changed files

  I had made changes in a folder called "branch", and now that its working I want to move all the src folder to the folder "trunk". But by copying src from local branch, pasting on local trunk and commiting the SVN commits nothing. Its like nothing had changed. Any idea how to commit this? Related question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/206183/how-can-i-force-subversion-to-commit-an-unchanged-file (Would work for me, but I know nothing about properties, exactly which one could I change and with which value to not crash something?)

  I have a site through which user can write their own Screenplays. This screenplays are saved in the form of revisions. Apache SVN has been installed. I want to save only the last 5 revisions for every user's document. But the problem is on the backend the all the revisions are stored in one folder called "Docsrepo" and its classified as 1000 revisions in 1 folder. and like this it has 234 folders. Meaning 234*1000 revisions. Now I want to archive all of this revision to keep only the last 5 revisions of each document. How do i do that?

My first question is: should i keep my local SVN server or you know some good service for this?   Hi All, Let me explain my scenarios I have branch called ca-dev and its pretty stable,now I have to revert about 100 revisions (ca-dev has about 400 revisions checked in total after it branched out )from different users which were checked in over 4 months before I am branching new branch called agile-dev.Can any body help me best way to do... I tried using tortise svn some got reverted some I got conflicts and I resolved my self blindly so build is breaking. • SVN - ignoring files already in repository

  I have a configuration file in my project which needs to be in the repository (so new developers get it when they checkout the project). Each developer might change some values in the file locally - these changes should not be committed and I don't want them showing in the synchronization menu (I'm using eclipse and subversive if it matters). Note that I can't just set the svn:ignore property since it only works on files that aren't under version control - but I do want to keep a base version of the file in the repository. How can I avoid the file showing in synchronization without deleting it from repository? EDIT: A better description - what I actually need is to be able to set a "read-only" property on the config file, so it can't be changed in the repository as long as the property is on. Do you know anything like this? Thanks

The repository is on cvsdude.com, the client is linux. I also use the subclipse plugin that caches the password ok. I vaguely remember that when I started working with it, the command asked interactively if I wanted to save clear password, and I said no. Can this choice be stored somewhere and take precedence over the configuration? Thanks!

So, in the following situation, I create a feature branch, and there are commits to the trunk E---F---G Feature / A---B---C---D--H--I trunk I'm looking for a tool which copies the trunk, and applies the commits one by one, letting me resolve any conflicts if any exist - but each commit retains the same commit message, and is still a separate commit. E'---F'---G' Feature / A---B---C---D--H--I trunk So commit E' will be a commit with the same changes as E, except in the case of E causing a conflict, in which case E' will differ from E in that E' has the conflicts resolved, and the same commit message as E. I'm looking for this as it helps in keeping branches up to date with trunk - the svnmerge.py / mergeinfo way does not help, as you still need to resolve your changes when you merge back to trunk.

  So my co-worker felt it necessary to go onto my development box and do some code changes, then submit his work to subversion. I never set the commit message editor, and all of a sudden, one day I forgot to add the -m handle and apparently he set the default editor to emacs. Being that I don't know the first thing about emacs and prefer vim myself, how do I go about changing the default editor for svn commands to vim after it's already been set. I deleted the .subversion directory under the home directory, and it still prompts me.

  Hi, I'm working on a uni project with a few other people using SVN. Much to my annoyance the .project file was removed from the repository since "it contains platform specific information". However, this has obviously broken my setup in Eclipse, giving me the error: Problems occurred opening the selected resources. The project description file (.project) for '___' is missing.   I want to be able to search within the commit logs of svn. I know you can do that on tortoise, but couldn't find a way using the command line. We are moving to a two-tiered repository approach, so that the stable branch will only get stories fully completed and tested. To achieve that, we would need a way to search within the commit messages for the story code (eg:#s1322) and get a list of the revisions to be used in a subsequent merge command.   Hi, I need to setup an SVN repository for an iPhone / iPad app that I'm working on. It needs to be setup on a Windows server 2003 instance. We run VSS on it, but it doesn't really work all that well with XCode, so I'd like to migrate ASAP. The problem is, I'm a new graduate and this is the first time I'll be using a souce control software, so any tutorials on how to set one up, configure it to work correctly with Macs using XCode are greatly appreciated! Though it's not a priority, I'd also like to try to get my company to ditch VSS for SVN (Been reading this article yesterday - http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/08/source-control-anything-but-sourcesafe.html).
