  I've optimized my code to use only lightweight libraries. I'm even using the low level datastore rather than JDO. And my cold start CPU usage has dropped from about 5 seconds to about 1.5 seconds. However, the time it takes to respond is often about 4.5 seconds, though it varies a lot. Here are some lines from my logs: 03-19 09:16PM 57.368 /donothing 200 4506ms 1516cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 03-19 09:22PM 54.884 /donothing 200 4452ms 1477cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 What is the app engine doing for those extra 3 seconds that apparently isn't using any CPU?

  I have a question about XSS Can forms be used as a vector for XSS even if the data is not stored in the database and used at a later point? i.e. in php the code would be this: <form input="text" value="<?= @$_POST['my_field'] ?>" name='my_field'> Showing an alert box (demonstrate that JS can be run) on your own browser is trivial with the code above. But is this exploitable across browsers as well? The only scenario I see is where you trick someone into visiting a certain page, i.e. a combination of CSRF and XSS. "Stored in a database and used at a later point": the scenario I understand about CSS is where you're able to post data to a site that runs JavaScript and is shown on a page in a browser that has greater/different privileges than your own. But, to be clear, this is not wat I'm talking about above.

• Program ends abruptly even in debugger - how did that happen?

  I am trying to debug a program that unexpectedly shuts down. When I say "shuts down, I mean one moment I am seeing all the windows being displayed, each of which is showing all the right data,then suddenly all the windows disappear. The is no messagebox reporting anything wrong. So I tried running the program in the debugger hoping that it would somehow trap whatever was causing the program to abort, but even within the debugger the program simply ends abruptly. The last line in the debugger is: The program '[5500] test.exe: Native' has exited with code 0 (0x0). My program which is extremely large and extremely old has a lot of self diagnostics. My suspicion is that perhaps a self test has failed and maybe I just called "exit()", forgetting to pop up a dialog explaining why. My question now is, how can I find out from which point in the code, my program quit?

  Hi, I have a Date class which wraps over the DateTime? class (aids in mocking DateTime.Now, our domain ,etc). The Date class class only has one protected property : DateTime? date public class Date { protected DateTime? date; } // mapping in hbm <component name="CompletedOn"> <property column="StartedOn" name="date" access="field" not-null="false" /> </component> From the nhibernate docs: Like all value types, components do not support shared references. The null value semantics of a component are ad hoc. When reloading the containing object, NHibernate will assume that if all component columns are null, then the entire component is null. This should be okay for most purposes. Can I override this behaviour? I want my Date class to be instantiated even if date is null. Thanks,

• Please help me to allow my `JTable` to search the text even the table is in editable mode on key-press

  If user starts pressing keys using keyboards then JTable is supposed to be searched the matching text for him and if user double clicks on cell then Table should allow him to edit the text. And the issue is - Table is only searching text when the table is in non-editable mode and if Table is editable and user starts typing the text-using keyboard, cell is allowing him to edit the cell rather then search. Mr mKorbel has just solved my issue to allow edit only if double click on Table cell. Please help me to allow my JTable to search the text even the table is in editable mode on key-press.

• How to force delete cookies even if one window is still open?

  Apparently in IE8, there is this option 'Preserve Favorites website data', even if I uncheck it the browser will still keep the cookies until the last window is closed. Problem scenario. say I logged in to somesite.com, then without out logging out, I closed the window, but there was still another IE8 window open. In this case IE8 will keep the cookies of this site. So If I opened the site again (same window or another) the site won't ask for login info. The client wants the web application to be logged off as soon as the user closes the browser. Can I force delete the cookies IE8 is saving? or maybe I can stop the user from closing the window until I simulate a click on logout button?

• RFC Repository of programming RFC's with ability to direct-link sections or even lines?

  Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, I feel like the question is slightly off-topic even though it is also about programming. I am inputting todo-tasks for my WebDAV-project into my issue tracker, as I read through the relevant RFC's, and it would be nice to be able to add a link in my issue text directly to the relevant text, instead of just a link to the RFC file with a section number in the issue text, and then I have to use the find function to find it. For instance, a link like this: http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#1000 <-- line 1000 http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#9.8.3 <-- section 9.8.3 Neither of these two works, since they just post the full text files, so my question is this: Does anyone know of hosted versions of the RFC documents that contains such links?

  Does anyone know any ontology which specifies opening hours of places? For example, I have a museum, which has 2 seasons. For low season (season start and end is specified), it is opened 10.00 - 18.00 on weekdays and 10-16 on saturday (on sunday it's closed), for high season it's opened 10-20 on weekdays and 10-18 on weekend. If there is no ontology, may-be people have experience, how best to structure information like that? I'm describing information in RDF. But whatever comments are welcome (even if you have relational database which holds given data). Thanks

• IE8 is still caching my requests even with mathrandom.

  TLDR IE is still caching my requests even with Math.random() included in the URL. So I added math random onto the end of my url: var MYKMLURL = 'http://' + host + 'data/pattern?key='+ Math.random(); I also added math random onto my function param: window.setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 1000, MYKMLLAYER); function RefreshPatternData(layer) { layer.loaded = false; layer.setVisibility(true); layer.refresh({ force: true, params: { 'key': Math.random()} }); setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 30000, MYKMLLAYER); } So the request appears as http://host/data/pattern?key=35678652545 etc. It changes everytime the request is made. It works in Firefox & Chrome & Safari etc. But IE8 is still caching the data and not updating my layer. Any ideas as to why this might be occuring?

  I'm getting a KeyError for an out of dictionary key, even though I know the key IS in fact in the dictionary.   I have the following code in some app: int lowRange=50; int[] ageRangeIndividual = {6, 10, 18, 25, 45, 65, 90}; int index=0; for (; index<ageRangeIndividual.length-1 && ageRangeIndividual[index]<=lowRange;index++); I am getting an "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 7" in the for line! even though I explicitly specify to break the cycle if index < last indexable item in the array! This does not happen always, but after some time of running said program (lowRange varies each time the function is called) What am I not seeing?

  Hi all, I was doing some self learning on CakePHP 1.26 with Mysql 5. I got a simple table with only one field and had applied "Not Null" to this field. This field in the table was corresponding to a Input text box in a HTML form. I tried not to enter anything into the Input text field, and then I saw that empty data was able to be stored into the Table even if "Not Null" had been applied to this field. I am confused of this result. Could you help me please?

• jQuery does not execute on dynamically loaded content,, even on a click events.

  I have two document.ready functions. The first loads content into div#header. The second one performs a hide function and then a toggle function on the newly loaded content.   Hi I have developed a Flash Video player in Flash CS3 with Action Script 2.0 to play video from Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5. To play video from FMS 3.5, first I have to verify my swf file on FMS 3.5 server console so that it can be ensure that RTMP video URL only be play in verified SWF file. Right now I am facing problem of "NetConnection.Connect.Close" when I try to connect my NetConnection Object to FMS 3.5 to stream video from that server. So now I am getting this message "NetConnection.Connect.Close" from FMS 3.5. When this is happening in my office area at the same time when I am checking the the same video url from out side the office (With help of my friends who is in another office) area it is working fine. My friends naver faced even a single issue with NetConnection.Connect.Close. But in my office when I got message NetConnection.Connect.Close, I can play another streaming video very well like mtv.com jaman.com rajshri.com etc. Some time FMS works fine and video starts playing but in the middle of the video same thing happen "NetConnection.Connect.Close" There is no issue of Bandwidth in my office. I do't know why this is happening. Please see the message when I am getting "NetConnection.Connect.Close" message. • Why is Django/FastCGI/Apache logging HTTP status code 200 for every request, even 404s?

  Edit: I have now discovered that the status code is returned correctly, it just isn't recorded correctly in Apache's access.log. Title amended. This is still a problem. Any ideas? Original question follows. Hi all. I run the following stack: Django(svn) on WSGI on FastCGI on Apache on Dreamhost. Every page served by Django returns HTTP status code 200, even those resulting from statements such as raise Http404 There is a .htaccess file which directs most pages to Django, via my dispatch.fcgi file, and other pages elsewhere. The other pages return correct status codes, e.g. trying to access /.htaccess itself results in status code 403. When I run my Django project on a local development server (Apache, not Django's built-in development server), I get correct status codes, so I don't think this is caused by my Django code. My current thinking is that the problem lies somewhere in how the FastCGI/WSGI interface is configured, but I'm not sure how to proceed debugging this. Any tips on how I can find out what's causing this?

Why does crystal reports show a print dialog even when I pass false for promptUser? And how, then, can I suppress crystal reports' internal printer selection dialog and force it to use my values? Edit: Whoops, CR11, not CR9. Some further information: The reports that work properly (ie, do not show the print dialog) are generated internally using the RDC API; we create a new report object, import subreports into it, then print the result. No problem there. The reports that do not work properly (ie, force the print dialog to open) have been created with a previous version of crystal reports; however, opening and saving the report does not seem to help. Sample reports in the Crystal Reports installation directory show the same problem. • How (and where) to get aligned tRNA sequences (and import it into R)

  (This is a database / R commands question) I wish (for my thesis work), to import tRNA data into R and have it aligned. My questions are: 1) What resources can I use for the data. 2) What commands might help me with the import/alignment. My problem still remains with how to handle the alignment of the tRNA. Since I am not from the field, I might be missing a very basic answer (like where I should download the data from, or what command to use).   Hi all, I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2), col=c("red", "blue"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(1:10)) To create two triangles, with different line widths. But the polygon command doesn't seem to recycle the "lwd" parameter as it does the col or the border parameters. I would like the resulting plot to look like what the following code will produce: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:3, c(2,1,2), col=c("red"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(1)) polygon(5:7, c(2,1,2), col=c( "blue"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(10)) So my questions are: Is there something like polygon that does what I asked for? • Is it immoral to write crappy code even if readability and correctness is not a requirement?

  There are cases when crappy (i.e. unreadable and buggy) code is not much of a problem. For instance, imagine you need to generate a big text file that mostly follows a simple pattern with a few very complex exceptions. What do you do? You quickly write a simple algorithm and insert the exceptional bits in the output manually to save 4 hours. The code is unreadable, and the output is flawed, but it's still the correct way since it is way faster. But let's get this straight: I hate bad code. I've had to read and work with code that caused my stomach to hurt. I care a lot about good code. And actually, I caught myself thinking that it is immoral to write bad code even though the dirty approach is sometimes superior. I was surprised by myself and found my idea to be very irrational. Did you ever experience this? Should I just get rid of this stupid idea and use the most efficient approach to coding?
