  • Has anyone got Ubuntu Touch working on Nexus 5?

    I have been debating whether to get a nexus 5 phone since it came out. My only fear is that I won't like android. I love ubuntu, I know that I'd love ubuntu. So I have a few question related to Ubuntu Touch: Is it easy or possible to switch between Ubuntu Touch and Android? Would I have to keep hacking the phone? Can I dual boot them? Would I lose my data every time I switch? The nexus 5 isn't mentioned here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices Does that mean it simply won't work if I follow the porting instructions? Would I have to do a bit of hacking? Has anyone got it working? Will it eventually be supported?

  • Nec USB 3.0 controller drops connection - Ubuntu 12.04.1

    I have some serious problems with Technaxx pci-e 302p card. It has uPD720200a NEC chip with 4020 firmware. BIOS recognises it. Sometimes it recognises devices and system mounts them and are functional for few minutes, other times they can't be mount and error occours. After fresh install card worked fine, but after kernel and firmware update it behaves as mentioned.   • Ubuntu Server 12 not spawning a serial ttyS0 when running on Xen

    I have this problem on more than one host, so the specific hardware is not an issue. Bare metal Ubuntu 12 is not creating a login process on the only serial port, in the default configuration. The serial port works correctly with the firmware. It works correctly with Grub2. I have even connected the serial line to 2 different external client boxes, so the problem is neither the hardware nor the remote client.   • How to prevent Ubuntu from combining networks on 2 NIC server?

    I've got a Ubuntu Server 10.10 with 2 network interfaces with a cable plugged into both going to switches on completely different networks with different routers. One network is the 10.1.10.X network with a separate gateway/router - the server has an IP of 10.1.10.50 with the gateway IP of 10.1.10.1. The other interface is 10.2.10.X, IP 10.2.10.50, gateway 10.2.10.1. All my Mac machines are on the 10.2.10.X network, and all servers on the 10.1.10.X. The ONLY connection between the two is this machine. From a Mac in my office, I CANNOT ping any computer on the 10.1.10.X network except the Ubuntu machine I'm talking about. However, under the Shared column in Finder, I can see every server on the other network listed. That makes me believe that somehow this Ubuntu machine is letting certain requests span both networks, which is a security problem. Hope this is enough info.

  • ubuntu eth0 not reconnecting after cable unplugged

    I'm running kubuntu 9.10 w/ gnome, I have a static IP defined in /etc/network/interfaces When I unplugged my network cable and rebooted, then reconnected the network cable I was not able to connect. I tried using sudo ifup eth0, and then ifconfig and it seemed as though the IP address had been assigned and I was connected, but I wasn't. I then did ifdown eth0, and again ifup eth0. For some reason I'm not able to access the network. Furthermore, I also attempted to connect via wlan, and was able to connect to the wireless network, but cannot "see" the network. I can't transfer data or access the internet or anything on the network including the router.   • How can I restore programs that were sent to the background (Ubuntu)

    I was fooling around with my dual display setup (turned on my second monitor is almost all) and a handful of programs that were running seem not to be available anymore. Thunderbird, Gvim, Tomboy ps shows them, but I can't see them. Can't cycle to them with alt-tab. They aren't just in some other window. I'm not even sure how to start figuring out where everything went. Ideas?

    I need to run Firefox in my server in order to execute some Selenium tests from Hudson. I would love no to have to install a complete gui. So I installed Xvfb in order to fake the Gui (I understand it this way correct me if my assumptions are wrong).     After an update yesterday my Dell X300 will only boot to a screen with an option to perform 2 memory tests. If I perform these tests, it will only go back to this same screen, offering a choice of memory test again, 86+ or 86+ serial console 115200. This screen is headed - GNU Grub version 1.97 beta 4. This is a full install on my hard drive. How can I get back to booting normally?

  • pdftk issue after updating Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10

    We upgraded our server to 9.10 from 9.04 the other day, and it all went well except for one rather important program. We're using pdftk to automatically generate filled out pdf forms. On 9.04, it worked just fine. After updating to 9.10, the pdf forms would no longer be filled out - they'd just be empty. I discovered that if I try to create an fdf file via pdftk from my PDF form, it just creates an empty fdf with no fields. On windows, pdftk generates the fdf file just fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

    I'm trying to set auto static ip. I've set the content of /etc/network/interfaces to be: auto lo auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1. and /etc/resolv.conf to be: nameserver 192.168.1.1. It seems that the ip address have set successfully. However, when I plug out the lan cable and then plug it back, the ip address is not set. How can I make it automatically set the static ip when the lan cable is connected?

    I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks.

    I got 3 display working in Linux. I have set it up so I have Xinerama and 3 different X sessions. So my 3 displays are not all the same size, two are 1680x1050 and then the other which is between the two is 2560x1600. So my issue is when I chose span, even if the image is larger than all 3 resolutions combined, the center monitor has bars at the top and the bottom because span scales the image it seems. Is there a way if I bypass the gui to have an image span all three monitors but with no scaling? Urgent! Please help! ;-)

I am running Ubuntu from a USB drive with persistence as the PC currently has no hard drive I seem to be stuck in 640*480 mode. The desktop itself is larger, but the monitor display is stuck on 640*480. In SettingsDisplays, only the 640*480 option is available. What I have found out so far: The proprietary ati drivers no longer support my card. If 3D isn't an issue (it's not) the open source driver should be fine. This should be installed by default so in theory I am using it already xserver-xconf/pci/*.ids doesn't show any entries for the card's PCI id. hardware additional drivers show no proprietary drivers I tried the booting into the current version of Geexbox from a USB stick and this set the resolution correctly by default so I know it can be done, but I know no idea how. How can I tell what driver the card is using, and how can I get the higher resolutions back?
