• Customize Entity Framework SSDL &amp; SQL Generation

  In almost every talk I have done on Entity Framework I get questions on how to do custom SSDL or SQL when using model first development.  Quite a few of these questions have required custom changes to the SSDL, which of course can be a problem if it is getting auto generated.  Luckily, there is a tool that can help.  In the Visual Studio Gallery on MSDN, there is the Entity Designer Database Generation Power Pack. • Compiling GData for iPhone

  Hi, I'm trying to compile a project that uses the GData objective-c framework. I've successfully compiled and run the project under the 'Debug' configuration, but when I try to compile using 'Release' and now 'Adhoc' I get the following errors. NOTE: I duplicated the debug configuration for adhoc and that doesn't seem to help.   Hi all, I am developing an iPhone application which I need to distribute to an organization of about approximately 50 people, no. of users can increase or decrease in future. I checked my iPhone developer account, there I got that I can distribute my application via Adhoc Distribution up to 100 iPhone or iPod touch users. So I think it should be best way to distribute my application to that XYZ organization. On further searching I found that there is also an - iPhone Developer Enterprise Program, which is available to companies with 500 or more employees and a Dun & Bradstreet number. So I want to know - which will be the best way for me according to my requirements ? Also I want to know that say if I choose Adhoc distribution then is there any way for automatic up-gradation in it ie. to install new version of my application on user's iPhone or iPod without deleting the old version. • Fluent interface design and code smell

The thing I do not like is that the StepClause has knowledge of its derived class NamedStepClause. I tried a couple of things to make this sit better with me. I tried to move things out to interfaces but then the problem just moved from the concrete to the interfaces - INamedStepClause still need to derive from IStepClause and IStepClause needs to return INamedStepClause to be able to call Step(). I could also make Step() part of a completely separate type. Then we do not have this problem and we'd have: var workflow = new Workflow().Configure() .Step().Action1() .Step("abc").Action2() .Step().Action2() .Step("def").Action1(); Which is ok but I'd like to make the step-naming optional if possible. I found this other post on SO here which looks interesting and promising. What are your opinions? I'd think the original solution is completely unacceptable or is it? By the way, those action methods will take predicates and functors and I don't think I want to take an additional parameter for naming the step there. The point of it all is, for me, is to only define these action methods in one place and one place only. So the solutions from the referenced link using generics and extension methods seem to be the best approaches so far.

• A couple of nice features when using OracleTextSearch

  If you have your UCM/URM instance configured to use the Oracle 11g database as the search engine, you can be using OracleTextSearch as the search definition. OracleTextSearch uses the advanced features of Oracle Text for indexing and searching. This includes the ability to specify metadata fields to be optimized for the search index, fast rebuilding, and index optimization. If you are on 10g of UCM, then you'll need to load the OracleTextSearch component that is available in the CS10gR35UpdateBundle component on the support site (patch #6907073). If you are on 11g, no component is needed. Then you specify the search indexer name with the configuration flag of SearchIndexerEngineName=OracleTextSearch. Please see the docs for other configuration settings and setup instructions. So I thought I would highlight a couple of other unique features available with OracleTextSearch. The first is the Drill Down feature. This feature allows you to specify specific metadata fields that will break down the results of that field based on the total results. So in the above graphic, you can see how it broke down the extensions and gives a count for each. Then you just need to click on that link to then drill into that result. This setting is perfect for option list fields and ones with a distinct set of values possible. By default, it will use the fields Type, Security Group, and Account (if enabled). But you can also specify your own fields. In 10g, you can use the following configuration entry: DrillDownFields=xWebsiteObjectType,dExtension,dSecurityGroup,dDocType And in 11g, you can specify it through the Configuration Manager applet. Simply click on the Advanced Search Design, highlight the field to filter, click Edit, and check 'Is a filter category'. The other feature you get with OracleTextSearch are search snippets. These snippets show the occurrence of the search term in context of their usage. This is very similar to how Google displays its results. If you are on 10g, this is enabled by default. If you are on 11g, you need to turn on the feature. The following configuration entry will enable it: OracleTextDisableSearchSnippet=false Once enabled, you can add the snippets to your search results. Go to Change View -> Customize and add a new search result view. In the Available Fields in the Special section, select Snippet and move it to the Main or Additional Information. If you want to include the snippets with the Classic results, you can add the idoc variable of <$srfDocSnippet$> to display them. One caveat is that this can effect search performance on large collections. So plan the infrastructure accordingly.

  As part of the installation of WebCenter Content 11g (UCM or URM), one of the main functions is to run the Repository Creation Utility (RCU) to establish the database schema and tables.   This is pretty helpful because it runs all the scripts you need to have without having to manually set anything up in the database.   In UCM 10g and earlier, the installation  itself would establish the database tables if you wanted it to.  Otherwise, the SQL scripts were available to be run independently ahead of time.  For DBAs who wanted to understand what was being done to the database for the application, this was helpful for them.  But in 11g, that is all masked now in RCU.  You don't get to see the scripts at all as part of it's establishing the tables.  But if you comb through the directories for RCU, you can track them down.  They are in the  /rcuHome/rcu/integration/contentserver11/sql/ directories.  And to understand the order in which they are run, you can open up the /rcuHome/rcu/integration/contentserver11/contentserver11.xml file and see how they are run there.  The order in which they are run are: contentserverrole.sql contentserveruser.sql intradoc.sql workflow.sql formats.sql users.sql default.sql contentprocedures.sql  If you are installing WebCenter Records (URM), it will run some additional scripts between the formats.sql and users.sql : MetadataSet.sql UIEnhancements.sql RecordsManagement.sql RecordsManagement_default.sql ClassifiedEnhancements.sql ClassifiedEnhancements_default.sql In addition to the scripts being available within the RCU install directories, they are also available from within the Content Server UI.  If you go to Administration -> DataStoreDesign SQL Generation, this page can allow you to download these various SQL scripts.    From here, you can select your particular database type and which components to include.  Several components make changes dynamically to the database when they are enabled, so these scripts give you a way to inspect what is being run during that startup time.  Once selected, click Generate and you now can either view or download the scripts from the Actions menu. • How can I get TFS 2010 to build each project to a separate directory?

  In our project, we'd like to have our TFS build put each project into its own folder under the drop folder, instead of dropping all of the files into one flat structure. To illustrate, we'd like to see something like this: DropFolder/ Foo/ foo.exe Bar/ bar.dll Baz baz.dll This is basically the same question as was asked here, but now that we're using workflow-based builds, those solutions don't seem to work. The solution using the CustomizableOutDir property looked like it would work best for us, but I can't get that property to be recognized. I customized our workflow to pass it in to MSBuild as a command line argument (/p:CustomizableOutDir=true), but it seems MSBuild just ignores it and puts the output into the OutDir given by the workflow. I looked at the build logs, and I can see that the CustomizableOutDir and OutDir properties are both getting set in the command line args to MSBuild. I still need OutDir to be passed in so that I can copy my files to TeamBuildOutDir at the end. Any idea why my CustomizableOutDir parameter isn't getting recognized, or if there's a better way to achieve this?

  I have a custom workflow. This workflow removes permissions to items when an item is added (example an item is added by a service account and once added those permissions need to be removed from that item). This works as I have the service account 'hard coded' in the custom workflow. Now I would like to remove this hard coding and when a item is added to a list I would like to iterate through all users that have access to the list item. If a user matches some algorithm then remove that user from the item permissions which will be 0 to many. The piece I'm stuggling with is how to iterage all users with permission to a SPListItem. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

I also have a Workflow object. Page and Region objects both have a relationship to Workflow and it's this double association that I'm having trouble with. The PageMap has HasMany(Function(x) x.Regions).Cascade.All() And the RegionMap has: References(Function(x) x.Page) And this all seems to work. But how do I define the relationship between Workflow and these two objects?

  After upgrading to v50 firmware in my Nokia 5800 xpress music phone. I am not able to connect to ad-hoc wlan network in my laptop(Windows 7 OS). I have a dialup internet connection and created wireless ad-hoc network to access the internet in my phone. But I am getting "invalid server name" in the phone and my wireless network access type in Windows 7 shows "no internet access". I am able to connect to wlan infrastructure network using 5800 in my office. So my phone is working with wlan and I m able to access internet on it. BUT The problem is "dial up with ICS enabled" and "AD-HOC wlan network" in Windows 7. Can anyone give some solution on it. Or can you provide a guide/tutorial to connect 5800 with adhoc network and dialup internet in Windows 7. System: Windows 7 Dial up internet connection with ICS enabled. • How to produce assets effectively on large Flash game projects?

  I have been working on Flash games professionally for two years now and somehow, having our artists producing assets the right way is one of our biggest challenge. More precisely, it is very hard to have them following any kind of structure and/or standards, nor taking into consideration performance. I would say also the most of our issues concerns UI and related animations. Our current workflow is (on a Facebook hidden object game) : Artists produce PSD and animate prototypes in Flash Artists re-organize their FLA files to be a bit more "programmer friendly" Programmers retouches assets until they have the right structure and export classes inside a SWC, from Flash Programmers try to improve performances, sometimes degrading the quality of game graphics Our main idea is to hire somebody dedicated to prepare assets for programmers but I am really looking forward to improving the pipeline. I was wondering if you guys have tips of any kind to improve this workflow, whether it be team organization, training, tools or tips with Flash. Any explanation on your asset pipeline is well appreciated too.
