• Access denied on virtual machine

  I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server.The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied. Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx" This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access

• Network IO issues between virtual build environment and network servers

  We have a virtual machine setup for our build environment. It uses network connectivity to obtain source and to write out build results and logs. However, around 1 in 10 times, the build fails at some point due to IO problems that appear to be down to some kind of lag or dropped connection. • Virtual Box between differnt PCs

  I am using Virtual Box machine (as .vdi) on external HDD drive so I can move it between different pcs. On each PC I have created new VM machine, attached that vdi and it seems working well. However, I've noticed that during my last transfer the latest installed applications were not saved on the .vdi, which made me to loose 1 day of work. I don't remember of doing any snapshots which I could merge. Can someone give me a hint how to handle this efficiently in feature?

• How to expand HD space that Virtual PC "sees" as *available* in Guest O/S

  I have run into this problem several times: I go to install some software in Virtual PC with a Dynamic HD on the Guest O/S. And while the HD can expand up to 16 GB or so (plenty to spare on the physical HD) the Guest O/S sees only 3 GB or so (and maybe 500 MB free). And the installer balks that there isn't enough HD space available to install within the Guest O/S. Any ideas?

  Recently we have have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on one of our development boxes at work. We have 10 Client Access Licence's for Microsoft Windows Terminal Server 2008. I'm under the impression that these licences will entitle us to have 10 concurrent connections to Remote Desktop. At the moment we are only allowed two. Can we have a RD connection per CAL? • Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection Rendering Each Frame?

  When connecting to my work computer over VPN and Remote Desktop Connection, images and videos are sent back one frame at a time, which really slows things down. I'm familiar with the "Experience" tab while connecting and the only options I have checked are "Visual styles" and "Persistent bitmap caching". Isn't it possible to work remotely that is more similar to screen sharing over Skype, where there is a lag but not every single frame has to be rendered and passed back to me one at a time? Both computers are running Windows 7 Professional.

• Remote Desktop won't maximize

  I use a laptop and I am docking and undocking frequently. Often when I connect to another machine using remote desktop, the screen size gets messed up when I dock again. By "messed up" I mean that it stays the size of my lap top screen (wide screen ratio). Clicking maximize will not get it to go full screen. Any ideas how I can reset this (other than a reboot).

  Is there a way to use rdesktop or another Linux client to connect to a server that requires Network Level Authentication? From Windows Server 2008 R2 -- Control Panel -- System And Security -- System -- Allow Remote Access there is an option that says "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication". So with this enabled I can con not connect from Linux. I can connect from XP but you need SP3 and I had to edit a couple of things in the registry for it to work.

  Has anyone run across any good benchmarks or other research on tuning the ZFS recordsize when putting virtual disk files on it for a guest OS? I'm using VirtualBox at the moment. I have notice significant performance improvement when working with a DBMS by setting the ZFS recordsize to the same as the DB blocksize, so I'm guessing matching the blocksize of the guest filesystem would also be a good idea.

  I want to provide a remote employee remote desktop into a PC in the office and am trying to decide between the following two options: Use Microsoft VPN to get him a local network IP. Use RDP to connect to host machine. Use local SSH tunneling for VPN port. Connect RDP to localhost:portNumber Is either option more secure than the other? • Can't see any entries on "File Types" tab on Windows 7's Desktop Search

  For some reason, Windows Desktop Search (included with Windows 7.0) now no longer shows any file types on the "Advanced Options" dialog box. Any ideas on how to fix this? WDS claims to be indexing...but I'm not sure what it's actually indexing right now. I should also add that when I try to add a file type, nothing shows up or is ever actually added. If I login as a different user on the same system, everything appears normally.

Users from Domain A are able to login reomtely using admin credentials. how ever using the same credentials users from Domain B Domain C & Domain D are not able to login. Is there any setting that needs to be done so that users from other 3 domains are able to access the system either using the system admin account or using their login (added in remote desktop users account in the remote machine) Any suggestion will be helpful
