  • Where is Win7's jump list data stored?

    As per Jumplist Extender, I'm trying to prevent other apps from refreshing their jump lists (it's assumed that the user WANTS to do this, seeing as this is a JL editor.) One idea is to look for file or registry changes, where the data may be stored, and prevent the data from being written to. The question is, where is the jump list data stored? It has to be somewhere! I know there's a folder location for pinned items, but I forgot what it is. It'd be great if I can get the "task" data, as well. Here's the original report.

  • Storing header and data sections in a CSV file

    This should be relatively easy to do, but after several hours straight programming my mind seems a bit frazzled and could do with some help. I have a C++ class which I am currently using to store read/write data to file. I was initially using binary data, but have decided to store the data as CSV in order to let programs written in other languages be able to load the data. The C++ class looks a bit like this: class BinaryData { public: BinaryData(); void serialize(std::ostream& output) const; void deserialize(std::istream& input); private: Header m_hdr; std::vector<Row> m_rows; }; I am simply rewriting the serialize/deserialize methods to write to a CSV file. I am not sure on the "best" way to store a header section and a "data" section in a "flat" CSV file though - any suggestions on the most sensible way to do this?

    Hi all, In my aplication, I want a tableview with different cell structure depending upon the category of data that's getting loaded in it [I have different categories like video, editorial etc with different structure of data like video has a single label, editorial has 3 labels etc]. I can load different nib files based on the data coming from xml parser. Now when the cell is tapped, I want to show its detailed view on a new viewController. So my question is is it possible to use only 1 viewController show different fields depending upon the category of data in the cell. Or do I need to create different viewControllers for each of the categories?

    At times a Database Administrator, or even a developer is required to wear a spy’s hat. This necessity oftentimes is dictated by a need to take a glimpse into a black-box application for reasons varying from a performance issue to an unauthorized access to data or resources, or as in my most recent case, a closed source custom application that was abandoned by a deserted contractor without source code. It may not be news or unknown to most IT people that SQL Server has always provided means of back-door access to everything connecting to its database. This indispensible tool is SQL Server Profiler. This “gem” is always quietly sitting in the Start – Programs – SQL Server <product version> – Performance Tools folder (yes, it is for performance analysis mostly, but not limited to) ready to help you! So, to the action, let’s start it up. Once ready click on the File – New Trace button, or using Ctrl-N with your keyboard. The standard connection dialog you have seen in SSMS comes up where you connect the standard way: One side note here, you will be able to connect only if your account belongs to the sysadmin or alter trace fixed server role. Upon a successful connection you must be able to see this initial dialog: At this stage I will give a hint: you will have a wide variety of predefined templates: But to shorten your time to results you would need to opt for using the TSQL_Grouped template. Now you need to set it up. In some cases, you will know the principal’s login name (account) that needs to be monitored in advance, and in some (like in mine), you will not.   • Loading a CSV file using jQuery GET returns the header but no data

    When reading a CSV file from a server using the jQuery 'GET' function I do not get any data. When I look at the code using FireBug I can see the GET request is sent and the return value is '200 OK'. Also I see that the header is returned correctly so the request is definitely made, and data is returned. This is also what I see in Wireshark. Here I see the complete contents of the CSV file is returned as a standard HTTP response. But the actual data is not there in my script. Firebug shows an empty response and the 'success' function is never called.     What's an effective way to handle data validation, say, from a form submission? Originally I had a bunch of if statements that checked each value and collected invalid values in an array for later retrieval (and listing). // Store errors here $errors = array(); // Hypothetical check if a string is alphanumeric if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $fieldvalue)) { $errors[$fieldname] = 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'; } // etc... What I did next was create a class that handles various data validation scenarios and store the results in an internal array.   • C# to unmanaged dll data structures interop

    I have a unmanaged DLL that exposes a function that takes a pointer to a data structure. I have C# code that creates the data structure and calls the dll function without any problem. At the point of the function call to the dll the pointer is correct. My problem is that the DLL keeps the pointer to the structure and uses the data structure pointer at a later point in time. When the DLL comes to use the pointer it has become invalid (I assume the .net runtime has moved the memory somewhere else). What are the possible solutions to this problem? The possible solutions I can think of are: Fix the memory location of the data structure somehow? I don't know how you would do this in C# or even if you can. Allocate memory manually so that I have control over it e.g. using Marshal.AllocHGlobal Change the DLL function contract to copy the structure data (this is what I'm currently doing as a short term change, but I don't want to change the dll at all if I can help it as it's not my code to begin with). Are there any other better solutions?

  • Preferred data-format for user-data in java applications?

    I'm currently developing a desktop application in java, which stores user data such as bookmarks for ftp-servers. When deciding how to save these informations, I ended up using xml, simply because I like the way xpath works. I was thinking about json too, which seems more lightweight. What is your preferred way to store data in java desktop applications (in general) and why? What about java-persistence, does that have any advantages worth noting? And how much does the size of user data matter? Its not always possible to store data in a database (or preferable), and in my experience xml does not scale well. Let me know what you think!

    Are there best practices out there for loading data into a database, to be used with a new installation of an application? For example, for application foo to run, it needs some basic data before it can even be started. I've used a couple options in the past: TSQL for every row that needs to be preloaded: IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM Master.Site WHERE Name = @SiteName) INSERT INTO [Master].[Site] ([EnterpriseID], [Name], [LastModifiedTime], [LastModifiedUser]) VALUES (@EnterpriseId, @SiteName, GETDATE(), @LastModifiedUser) Another option is a spreadsheet. Each tab represents a table, and data is entered into the spreadsheet as we realize we need it. Then, a program can read this spreadsheet and populate the DB. There are complicating factors, including the relationships between tables. So, it's not as simple as loading tables by themselves. For example, if we create Security.Member rows, then we want to add those members to Security.Role, we need a way of maintaining that relationship. Another factor is that not all databases will be missing this data. Some locations will already have most of the data, and others (that may be new locations around the world), will start from scratch. Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Editing a TreeView node doesn't change the TreeNode Key

    I have a TreeView with user-editable nodes. I like to use the node caption as key to my tree node : + Root |+ Node1 ||- SubNode1 ||- SubNode2 |+ Node2 ||- SubNode3 ||- SubNode4 So I can reach a node like this: MyTreeView.Nodes["Root"].Nodes["Node2"].Nodes["SubNode3"] The problem is that, as I allow the user to rename any node, I would need also to change the key of my node in its parent in the AfterLabelEdit handler... which seems (logically) not to be done automatically. Unfortunately, Nodes["blabla"] is readonly, Nodes.Add(string Key, TreeNode Node) doesn't exist, and I can't find a way to do this without throwing (sooner or later) a bad exception. Any idea ?
