  • Mysql Real Escape String PHP Function Adding "\" to My Field Entry

    - by Jascha
Hello, I am submitting a form to my mySql database using PHP. I am sending the form data through the mysql_real_escape_string($content); function. When the entry shows up in my database (checking in myPhpAdmin) all of my double quotes and single quotes are escaped. I'm fairly certain this is a PHP configuration issue? so: $content = 'Hi, my name is Jascha and my "favorite" thing to do is sleep'; mysql_real_escape_string($content); $query = 'INSERT INTO DB...' comes up in my database as: Hi, my name is Jascha and my \"favorite" thing to do is sleep Who do I tell what to do? (I cannot access the php.ini). -J

  • Age verification forms and crawlers

    - by user333763
I have created a website about some beer brand and had to include age verification page. The verification script is written in PHP and uses sessions to store verification variable. The script works the way that no matter form which link you will try to enter the website it will take you to the verification page first. The verification is very simple. There are 2 button: "I'm under 21" and "I'm over 21". If you click the latter, you can browse the website. After some time I discovered that the web crawlers are not able to get past verification page. I checked the website in Google webmaster tools and the only text content scanned was from the verification page. I read somewhere that crawlers are not able to submit form buttons, is it true? Considering the fact that age verification pages are useless anyways, maybe I should just leave it as a starting page but don't forbid going around it, e.g. from links to the subpages?

  • Versioning millions of files with distributed SCM

    - by C. Lawrence Wenham
I'm looking into the feasibility of using off-the-shelf distributed SCMs such as Git or Mercurial to manage millions of XML files. Each file would be a commercial transaction, such as a purchase order, that would be updated perhaps 10 times during the lifecycle of the transaction until it is "done" and changes no more. And by "manage", I mean that the SCM would be used to not just version the files, but also to replicate them to other machines for redundancy and transfer of IP. Lets suppose, for the sake of example, that a goal is to provide good performance if it was handling the volume of orders that Amazon.com claimed to have at its peak in December 2010: about 150,000 orders per minute. We're expecting the system to be distributed over many servers in order to get reasonable performance. We're also planning to use solid-state drives exclusively. There is a reason why we don't want to use an RDBMS for primary storage, but it's a bit beyond the scope of this question. Does anyone have first-hand experience with the performance of distributed SCMs under such a load, and what strategies were used? Open-source preferred, since the final product is to be FOSS, too.

  • Django snippet with logic

    - by etam
Hi, is there a way to create a Django snippet that has logic? I think about something like contact template tag: {% contact_form %} with template: <form action="send_contact_form" method="POST">...</form> with logic: def send_contact_form(): ... I want to be able to use it anywhere in my projects. It should work only by specifying 1 template tag... Do you know what I mean? Is it possible? Thanks in advance, Etam.

  • debug jquery selector

    - by Fabian
Hi, I am looking for a way to debug what a jquery selector returns/selected. I tried to use toString() but that only returns [object Object]. What I am actually trying to do is to attach a callback to radio buttons. And on click on one of the buttons I want to submit the enclosing form. Therefore I try to do something like this: $(".rating").stars({ cancelShow: false, callback: function(ui, type, value, event) { $(this).closest('form').ajaxSubmit(); } }); But unfortunately just nothing happens. Thanks a lot, Fabian

  • Permission based Authorization vs. Role based Authorization - Best Practices - 11g

    - by Prakash Yamuna
In previous blog posts here and here I have alluded to the support in OWSM for Permission based authorization and Role based authorization support. Recently I was having a conversation with an internal team in Oracle looking to use OWSM for their Web Services security needs and one of the topics was around - When to use permission based authorization vs. role based authorization? As in most scenarios the answer is it depends! There are trade-offs involved in using the two approaches and you need to understand the trade-offs and you need to understand which trade-offs are better for your scenario. Role based Authorization: Simple to use. Just create a new custom OWSM policy and specify the role in the policy (using EM Fusion Middleware Control). Inconsistent if you have multiple type of resources in an application (ex: EJBs, Web Apps, Web Services) - ex: the model for securing EJBs with roles or the model for securing Web App roles - is inconsistent. Since the model is inconsistent, tooling is also fairly inconsistent. Achieving this use-case using JDeveloper is slightly complex - since JDeveloper does not directly support creating OWSM custom policies. Permission based Authorization: More complex. You need to attach both an OWSM policy and create OPSS Permission authorization policies. (Note: OWSM leverages OPSS Permission based Authorization support). More appropriate if you have multiple type of resources in an application (ex: EJBs, Web Apps, Web Services) and want a consistent authorization model. Consistent Tooling for managing authorization across different resources (ex: EM Fusion Middleware Control). Better Lifecycle support in terms of T2P, etc. Achieving this use-case using JDeveloper is slightly complex - since JDeveloper does not directly support creating/editing OPSS Permission based authorization policies.

  • Winforms - Visually remove button click event

    - by Wayne Koorts
.NET newbie alert Using Visual C# 2008 Express Edition I have accidentally created a click event for a button. I then deleted the automatically-created method code, which resulted in an error saying that the function, which had now been referenced in the form loading code, could no longer be found. Deleting the following line from the Form1.Designer.cs file's InitializeComponent() function... this.btnCopy.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.btnCopy_Click); ... seems to do the trick, however, it makes me feel very dirty because of the following warning at the beginning of the #region: /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify /// the contents of this method with the code editor. I haven't been able to find a way to do this using the form designer, which I assume is the means implied by this warning. What is the correct way to do this?

  • UL+CSS for grid layout

    - by nailxx
Hi all, I have a server-generated html like: <ul> <li><!-- few nested elements that form a block --></li> <li><!-- few nested elements that form anaother block --></li> <li><!-- etc, X times --></li> </ul> All blocks have known width 200px and unknown height. I want <li> to be arranged in table-like fashion like this: What I have for now is following css: li { display: block; width: 200px; float: left; margin: 10px; } All is fine except that columns don't get equal height. And in example above block #4 “snatch” at #1 and the result isn't what I'm trying to achieve: Is there any pure-CSS cross-browser way that will allow grid layout I want and will not enforce markup change?

  • Firefox and TinyMCE 3.4.9 won't play nice together

    - by Patricia
I've submitted a bug to the tinyMCE people, but i'm hoping someone else has come across this and has a suitable workaround. Here's the situation: I've got a form with a tinyMCE control that i load into a jquery dialog. it works great the first time, then after they close it, and open a new one. any interaction with the tinyMCE control gives: "Node cannot be used in a document other than the one in which it was created" it also doesn't fill the control with the text it's supposed to be prepopulated with. In my jquery dialogs i have the following scripts in my beforeClose handler: if (typeof tinyMCE != 'undefined') { $(this).find(':tinymce').each(function () { var theMce = $(this); tinyMCE.execCommand('mceFocus', false, theMce.attr('id')); tinyMCE.execCommand('mceRemoveControl', false, theMce.attr('id')); $(this).remove(); }); } and here's my tinyMCE setup script: $('#' + controlId).tinymce({ script_url: v2ScriptPaths.TinyMCEPath, mode: "none", elements: controlId, theme: "advanced", plugins: "paste", paste_retain_style_properties: "*", theme_advanced_toolbar_location: "top", theme_advanced_buttons1: "bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, separator, justifyleft, justifycenter, justifyright, justifyfull, indent, outdent, separator, undo, redo, separator, numlist, bullist, hr, link, unlink, removeformat", theme_advanced_buttons2: "fontsizeselect, forecolor, backcolor, charmap, pastetext, pasteword, selectall, sub, sup", theme_advanced_buttons3: "", language: v2LocalizedSettings.languageCode, gecko_spellcheck : true, onchange_callback: function (editor) { tinyMCE.triggerSave(); }, setup: function (editor) { editor.onInit.add(function (editor, event) { if (typeof v2SetInitialContent == 'function') { v2SetInitialContent(); } }) } }); is there anything obvious here? i've got all that complicated removal stuff in the close b/c tinymce doesn't like having it's html removed without it being removed. the setInitialContent() stuff is just so i can pre-load it with their email signature if they have one. it's broken with or without that code so that's not the problem. i was forced to update to 3.4.9 because of this issue: http://www.tinymce.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=28400 so if someone can solve that, it would help this situation to. I have tried the suggestion from aknosis with no luck. EDIT: I originally thought this only affected firefox 11, but i have downloaded 10, and it is also affected. EDIT: Ok, i've trimmed down all my convoluted dynamic forms and links that cause this into a fairly simple example. the code for the base page: <a href="<%=Url.Action(MVC.Temp.GetRTEDialogContent)%>" id="TestSendEmailDialog">Get Dialog</a> <div id="TestDialog"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> $('#TestSendEmailDialog').click(function (e) { e.preventDefault(); var theDialog = buildADialog('Test', 500, 800, 'TestDialog'); theDialog.dialog('open'); theDialog.empty().load($(this).attr('href'), function () { }); }); function buildADialog(title, height, width, dialogId, maxHeight) { var customDialog = $('#' + dialogId); customDialog.dialog('destory'); customDialog.dialog({ title: title, autoOpen: false, height: height, modal: true, width: width, close: function (ev, ui) { $(this).dialog("destroy"); $(this).empty(); }, beforeClose: function (event, ui) { if (typeof tinyMCE != 'undefined') { $(this).find(':tinymce').each(function () { var theMce = $(this); tinyMCE.execCommand('mceFocus', false, theMce.attr('id')); tinyMCE.execCommand('mceRemoveControl', false, theMce.attr('id')); $(this).remove(); }); } } }); return customDialog; } </script> and the code for the page that is loaded into the dialog: <form id="SendAnEmailForm" name="SendAnEmailForm" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post"> <textarea cols="50" id="MessageBody" name="MessageBody" rows="10" style="width: 710px; height:200px;"></textarea> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $('#MessageBody').tinymce({ script_url: v2ScriptPaths.TinyMCEPath, mode: "exact", elements: 'MessageBody', theme: "advanced", plugins: "paste, preview", paste_retain_style_properties: "*", theme_advanced_toolbar_location: "top", theme_advanced_buttons1: "bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, separator, justifyleft, justifycenter, justifyright, justifyfull, indent, outdent, separator, undo, redo, separator, numlist, bullist, hr, link, unlink, removeformat", theme_advanced_buttons2: "fontsizeselect, forecolor, backcolor, charmap, pastetext, pasteword, selectall, sub, sup, preview", theme_advanced_buttons3: "", language: 'EN', gecko_spellcheck: true, onchange_callback: function (editor) { tinyMCE.triggerSave(); } }); }); </script> a very interesting thing i noticed, if i move the tinyMCE setup into the load callback, it seems to work. this isn't really a solution though, because when i'm loading dialogs, i don't know in the code ahead of time if it has tinyMCE controls or not!

  • (C# - windows forms) changing properties of controls that were added at runtime

    - by user257412
I have a form in which several buttons are added at runtime via a 'for' method public Form() { for (int i = 0 ... ) Button b = new Button() b.text = (string) i ; etc.. etc.. } . now i wish to change the text property of the buttons on a certain event. How can this be accomplished? I have tried a few things but none worked.. since the buttons variables are inside the method , they are not available outside. Thanks

  • jQuery - Iframe validation - cannot get values

    - by Henry
See demo: http://tinyurl.com/3xow97t The editor is under development. Now we check if it has an value - this works well with all form fields that have the class .required... but it does not work with the iframe. the iframe has a div with id #content. $('form .meet').focus(function() { $('iframe').each(function() { ** if($(this).contents().find('#content').val() == '') { ** $(this).addClass('warning'); } }) }); That means it should add the class .warning if the iframe is empty. But it always does, so what am i doing wrong? Does it not work, because the JS does not see the text i currently typed in? ^^ Regards Henry

  • Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Certified on Solaris 11

    - by John Abraham
Oracle Solaris 11 was announced last week, and I'm pleased to also announce that Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 is now certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit). This new operating system release represents a culmination of years of hard work by our Solaris engineering group.  It has a number of new and advanced features including simplified deployment and lifecycle management tools, built-in certified virtualization technologies, support on the latest generation SPARC chips, and more. New installations of the E-Business Suite R12 on this platform will require version 12.1.1 or higher and the latest Rapid Install startCD version 12.1.1.13.  For existing 12.1 installations, we have also certified an "in place" OS upgrade or the use of cloning to a target Solaris 11 system. There are also specific requirements to upgrade technology components such as the Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware.  These requirements are noted in the links below. • Winform BindingSources - Question

    - by Stephen Patten
I have a windows form (net 2.0) with controls on it bound to an entity (w/ INotifyPropertyChanged) through a BindingSource..works. On the same form I have a drop down list that is also wired up through a BindingSource..works Here's a sample of the relevant code: m_PlanItemLookupBindingSource.DataSource = GetBusinessLogic().RetrievePaymentPlanLookups(); // Collection of PaymentPlans paymentPlanType.Properties.DataSource = m_PlanItemLookupBindingSource; paymentPlanType.Properties.DisplayMember = "Name"; paymentPlanType.Properties.ValueMember = "ID"; paymentPlanType.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("EditValue", m_PlanBindingSource, "PaymentPlanID", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged, null, "D")); agencyComission.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("EditValue", m_PlanBindingSource, "AgencyCommission", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged, null, "P1")); billingType.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("Text", m_PlanBindingSource, "BillingType")); So when I change a value in the drop down list I thought that the m_PlanItemLookupBindingSource Current property would change along with the PaymentPlanID property of the entity which does change. Just a bit confused. Thanks in advance, Stephen

  • Policy Administration is the Top 2011 IT Priority for Insurers

    - by helen.pitts(at)oracle.com
The current issue of Insurance Networking News includes an interesting column by Novarica's Matt Josefowicz.  Recent research by the firm revealed that policy administration replacement or extension is the most common strategic IT project for insurers this year.  The article goes on to note that insurers are keenly focused on the business capabilities that can be delivered once the system is in production as well as the ability to leverage agile development methodologies and true business/IT collaboration during implementation. The results are not too surprising given that policy administration is a mission-critical system for life and annuity insurers.  As Josefowicz notes, "Core systems are called core for a reason--they are at the heart of the insurer's ability to function.  Replacing them is not to be done lightly, but failing to replace them can mean diminishing the ability to compete or function effectively as a company." Insurers can no longer rely on inflexible policy administration systems that impede their ability to rapidly configure and bring to innovative new products, add riders, support changing business processes and take advantage of market opportunities.  The ability to leverage the policy administration systems to better service customers and distribution channels by providing real-time access to policy information throughout the policy lifecycle is also critical to sustain loyalty and further fuel growth.Insurers can benefit from a modern, adaptive policy administration system, like Oracle Insurance Policy Administration for Life and Annuity.  You can learn more about the industry's most highly advanced, rules-based system, which is unmatched for its highly flexible, rules-based configurability, performance and extensibility, as well as global market industry trends by viewing a complimentary, on-demand Webcast, Adapt, Transform and Grow:  Accelerate Speed to Market with Adaptive Insurance Policy Administration.Data conversions can be a daunting process for many insurers when deciding to modernize, in particular when consolidating from multiple, disparate legacy policy administration systems to a single new platform.  Migrating from a legacy system requires a well-thought out approach that builds on the industry's best thinking from previous modernization efforts and takes data migration off the critical path by leveraging proven methodology and tools to capitalize on the new system's capabilities.  We'll discuss more about this approach in a future Oracle Insurance blog.Helen Pitts is senior product marketing manager for Oracle Insurance's life and annuities solutions.

  • php question regarding arrays

    - by Martin
Hi there, I'm a (complete) php noob and need a little help with something. I'm working on a project whereby a user can select up to 6 categories via a form (I'm using ExpressionEngine). The output is like this: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3" ...and so on. The user can select up to 6 categories on that form. What I need: even if my result is 3 categories I need to have 6 'cells' - for want of a better word - even if they're empty: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3","","","" I've tried this: <?php $str = '(output goes here)'; print_r(explode(',', $str, 6)); ?> ...but the output give me: Array ( [0] => Cat1 [1] => Cat2 [2] => Cat3 [3] => [4] => [5] => ) How do I get from that to this: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3","","","" Does this make sense? Thanks Martin

  • cgi.FieldStorage translating unicode strangely

    - by trydyingtolive
I have a form that is on a UTF-8 encoded page. When I submit the form cgi.FieldStorage converts any non-ascii character to an odd format. For example if I submit the value c. The browser will send %c4%87. I want to convert that to the string \xc4\x87. However, cgi.FieldStorage is converting it to \\xc4\\x87. post = cgi.FieldStorage(fp=env['wsgi.input'], environ=env, keep_blank_values=True) Python 2.6 on Ubuntu 9.10SE, Apache2, mod_wsgi.

  • Wordpress Template HTML CSS Layout Confusion

    - by Jess McKenzie
    I am having huge confusion with a template that I have purchased and I am trying to modify to handle a widget contact form. I am getting close with this but I have now muddled up the CSS or I have a feeling every page has a different CSS structure. The General Layout: What I Manage To Get: HTML View Source: <div id="innerright"> <div id="home" class="page"> <div id="homeslides"> <div class="welcomeslide"> <h1 class="large">Welcome</h1> </div> </div><!-- end home slides --> </div><!-- end page --> <div id="portfolio" class="page"> <div class="verticalline"> <div class="scrollprevnext"></div> </div> <div class="pageheader"> <h3><span>P</span>ortfolio</h3> </div><!--end pageheader --> <div id="portfolioscroller" class="scrollerenabledpage"> <div class="content"> <h5>Recent Work</h5> <ul class="thumb"> <li><a rel="precision_gallery" href="" title=""><img alt="" src="" /></a></li> </ul> </div> </div><!--end v scroll inner--> </div><!-- end page --> <div id="contact" class="page"> <div class="verticalline"> <div class="scrollprevnext"></div> </div> <div class="pageheader"> <h3><span>C</span>ontact</h3> </div><!--end pageheader --> <div id="contactscroller"> <h5>Get In Touch</h5> <div id="contactform">content</div> </div><!--end v scroll inner--> </div><!-- end page --> </div><!--end innerright--> CSS: CSS index.php: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/style.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.css" media="screen" /> <?php // jquery will be included by wp_head function as well as scripts and styles by third party plugins wp_head(); ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/js/plugins.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/js/script.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.pack.js"></script> <?php // background image if one has been set via options if (function_exists('get_option_tree')) { $background_image = get_option_tree('precision_background_image'); //$background_image = ''; $background_color = get_option_tree('precision_background_color'); if ($background_color != '') { echo '<style>body { background-color:'.$background_color.'; }</style>'; } } ?> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $('.page').each(function(index, element) { $(this).css('left', index * 500); }); <?php // if background is set via the OptionTree then load it first if ($background_image != '') { ?> $.vegas({ src:'<?php echo $background_image; ?>', fade:1000, complete:function() { $("#wrapper").fadeIn(1000); $("#bgpanel").fadeIn(1000); $('#mainslide').crossSlide( { speed: 15, fade: 1 }, [ <?php echo $slides; ?> ] ) $('#homeslides').bxSlider({ mode: 'fade', auto: true, controls:false, speed:1000, pause:5000 }); } }); <?php } else { // if no background has been set then fade-in the page ?> $("#wrapper").fadeIn(1000); $("#bgpanel").fadeIn(1000); $('#mainslide').crossSlide( { speed: 15, fade: 1 }, [ //ENTER YOUR MAIN SLIDESHOW IMAGES HERE\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ <?php echo $slides; ?> ] ) $('#homeslides').bxSlider({ mode: 'fade', auto: true, controls:false, speed:1000, pause:5000 }); <?php } ?> //BX SLIDER INNER PAGE SCROLLERS//////////////////////// $('.scrollerenabledpage').each(function(index, element) { $('#' + $(this).attr('id')).bxSlider({ mode: 'vertical', easing: 'easeInOutQuint', auto: false, controls: true, prevImage:'<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/images/up.png', nextImage:'<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/images/down.png', infiniteLoop: false, hideControlOnEnd: true, pager: true, pagerType:'short', pagerShortSeparator:'of', speed:800, }); }); //END BX SLIDER INNER PAGE SCROLLERS///////////////// $('#submit').click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); $('form').submit(); }); // contact form $('form').submit(function(e) { $('#main').append('<img src="<?php echo get_template_directory_uri(); ?>/images/loader.gif" class="loaderIcon" alt="Loading..." />'); $.post("<?php bloginfo('wpurl'); ?>/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php", {action:'precision_contact_form_handler', uname:$('input#uname').val(), uemail:$('input#uemail').val(), ucomments:$('textarea#ucomments').val()}, function(data) { $('#main img.loaderIcon').fadeOut(1000); if (data.status == "success") { $('#response').html("Forum has been successfully submitted."); } else { if (data.response != '') { $('#response').html(data.response); } else { $('#response').html("An error occurred while submitting the form.   • Visual Studio 2010 Is Here!

    - by Bill Evjen
I think back to the days of the first versions of Visual Studio (when it was called Visual Studio .NET, remember?) and I think about how far Microsoft has come with this IDE. It really is the best IDE on the market. There is so much to this IDE it is amazing. It now can really handle managing your complete software application development lifecycle. For me, it is (besides Windows 7) the best and most successful product Microsoft has developed. You can obviously get this now and it is available on MSDN and some other places: MSDN Visual Studio Trial Editions Visual Studio 2010 Express Editions (free) You will also find great info at the Visual Studio Developer Center. Some other interesting tidbits of info: JetBrain’s ReSharper 5.0 has been released for VS2010 Oracle will have the new Oracle Dev Tools for VS2010 within one month - http://bit.ly/9gC9NE Visual Studio 64-bit - Why there is no 64-bit version of VS - http://bit.ly/dhhwAj In installing this version of Visual Studio, if you have been working on the previous RC builds, then you are going to want to uninstall these previous editions of the 2010 product. You can do this through the Add Remove Programs dialog and you are going to want to select the appropriate item from the long list of Visual Studio items. You are then going to want to step through the Visual Studio dialog (it will seem as if you are installing it again) – and you will then come to a point where you can select the option to Uninstall the entire application. If you have installed the Silverlight 4 RC stuff, then you are also going to want to uninstall this and you are also going to want to uninstall the “Update for Visual Studio 2010 (KB976272)” before installing Silverlight RC2 – which you can find on www.silverlight.net. • Is my understanding of "select distinct" correct?

    - by paxdiablo
We recently discovered a performance problem with one of our systems and I think I have the fix but I'm not certain my understanding is correct. In simplest form, we have a table blah into which we accumulate various values based on a key field. The basic form is: recdate date rectime time system varchar(20) count integer accum1 integer accum2 integer There are a lot more accumulators than that but they're all of the same form. The primary key is made up of recdate, rectime and system. As values are collected to the table, the count for a given recdate/rectime/system is incremented and the values for that key are added to the accumulators. That means the averages can be obtained by using accumN / count. Now we also have a view over that table specified as follows: create view blah_v ( recdate, rectime, system, count, accum1, accum2 ) as select distinct recdate, rectime, system, count, value (case when count > 0 then accum1 / count end, 0), value (case when count > 0 then accum2 / count end, 0) from blah; In other words, the view gives us the average value of the accumulators rather than the sums. It also makes sure we don't get a divide-by-zero in those cases where the count is zero (these records do exist and we are not allowed to remove them so don't bother telling me they're rubbish - you're preaching to the choir). We've noticed that the time difference between doing: select distinct recdate from XX varies greatly depending on whether we use the table or the view. I'm talking about the difference being 1 second for the table and 27 seconds for the view (with 100K rows). We actually tracked it back to the select distinct. What seems to be happening is that the DBMS is actually loading all the rows in and sorting them so as to remove duplicates. That's fair enough, it's what we stupidly told it to do. But I'm pretty sure the fact that the view includes every component of the primary key means that it's impossible to have duplicates anyway. We've validated the problem since, if we create another view without the distinct, it performs at the same speed as the underlying table. I just wanted to confirm my understanding that a select distinct can not have duplicates if it includes all the primary key components. If that's so, then we can simply change the view appropriately.

  • ObjectDisposedException from core .NET code

    - by John
I'm having this issue with a live app. (Unfortunately this is post-mortem debugging - I only have this stack trace. I've never seen this personally, nor am I able to reproduce). I get this Exception: message=Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'Button'. exceptionMessage=Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'Button'. exceptionDetails=System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'Button'. at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateHandle() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.get_Handle() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.PointToScreen(Point p) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) exceptionSource=System.Windows.Forms exceptionTargetSite=Void CreateHandle() It looks like a mouse event is arriving at a form after the form has been disposed. Note there is none of my code in this stack trace. The only weird (?) thing I'm doing, is that I do tend to Dispose() Forms quite aggressively when I use them with ShowModal() (see "Aside" below). But I only do this after ShowModal() has returned (that should be safe right)? I think I read that events might be queued up in the event queue, but I can't believe this would be the problem. I mean surely the framework must be tolerant to old messages? I can well imagine that under stress messages might back-log and surely the window might go away at any time? Any ideas? If you could even suggest ways of reproducing, that might be useful. John Aside: TBH I've never quite understood whether calling Dispose() after Form.ShowDialog() is strictly necessary - the MSDN docs for ShowDialog() are to my mind a bit ambiguous.

  • Computation geometry: find where's the triangle after rotation, tranlastion or reflection in a mirro

    - by newba
Hi, I have a small contest problem in which is given a set of points, in 2D, that form a triangle. This triangle may be subject to an arbitrary rotation, may be subject to an arbitrary translation (both in the 2D plane) and may be subject to a reflection on a mirror, but its dimensions were kept unchanged. Then, they give me a set of points in the plane, and I have to find 3 points that form my triangle after one or more of those geometric operations. Example: 5 15 8 5 20 10 6 5 17 5 20 20 5 10 5 15 20 15 10 I bet that have to apply some known algorithm, but I don't know which. The most common are: convex hull, sweep plane, triangulation, etc. Can someone give a tip? I don't need the code, only a push, please!
