How to enable Integrated Load Balancing in Windows 8

One of the cool new features many sites mention is "Integrated Load Balancing" in Windows 8. It is supposed to do the following: If you have multiple active network connections, Windows 8 will intelligently balance the network traffic between them for performance Source: Short: Some of what Microsoft didn’t show of Windows 8 I would love to see this feature in action. I am connected to a WiFi access point and to a different network by cable. Yet I don't see the operating system 'intelligently' balance the network load when for instance downloading multiple files. Is there any way to enable it or should I adjust my expectations?

Windows 7 CD Command only echoes directory

The path for every new instance of the shell starts in my user directory (C:\Users\user). Within this directory or rather drive (in this case C:) I can't use the cd command as I'm used to - it only echoes the specified directory. As soon as I change the directory to a parent-directory I can execute "cd D:" and it changes to the drive. But this behavious doesn't appear consistently in all instances of the shell. Sometimes I have to go to C: to change it. I'm quite sure I'm not using the command in the wrong way, since it's what I'm used to do to start grails.

Building a Student Storage server

I work for a school district. I've been put in charge of building a storage server for students. A place for them to work off of from school and home. My challenge is getting this to work from home. At school they login, authenticate, and they get a mapped drive to their folder on the server (S:\fileserver\studentname). My question is how can I make this available to students at home? The server is running Windows Server 2003 R1. I've got PHP, Apache, and MySQL working together. My idea is to write a script that will "crawl" through the directory containing all of the student folders, then create an instance of every file and folder in a MySQL DB. Create a login page that will use LDAP for authentication, and once they login to the server from home, they get a page with folders a files tied to their username. Has anyone out there ever put something like this together??

How do I open 2 instances of the same file in notepad++ side by side with their own scrollbars in a single Notepad++ window?

I remember doing this a long time ago and have forgotten how I had done it. I like to do this when I have long html or php files to edit and I need part of the code from further down the file in a place nearer to the top, or when I want to compare different parts of the same file. There was a way to do this without opening two instances of Notepad++ and when I clicked on save, it made the saved changes in both instances of the opened file (whereas if I have 2 windows of Notepad++ opened simultaneously, it will prompt me to either update or not update the second opened instance if the first one was saved midway.)

How does Apache process several requests at a time?

In a short question: If 10 requests hit Apache, does it process them one by one, so when R3 finishes, then it starts to run R4, or does it fire 10 processes/threads/whatever and are resolved simultaneously? Now some background: I have a PHP script that takes up to two minutes to do some processes. My question is: while a client is waiting for this 2 minutes, all the other clients requests are being processed? Or also waiting for this one to end? By the way, if there are simultaneous request, how can I handle them? Let's say put a limit on them. Or a limit on resources consumed. For instance I want the server to use its 80% performance on serving the webapp, and just a 20% for those long operations ... because I have no hurry to end them. Doesn't know if it cares but is all in PHP. Thanks in advance!!

I have a Glassfish (3.1.2) cluster over 2 computers as nodes, with a mod_jk load balancer. Are servlet instance variables replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure it is? Are all actions, including method calls and disk writes, replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure they are? These may seem like stupid questions, but I'm not seeking "load balancing" as much as I am seeking exact replication to enable future upgrading without any service interruption. How do I achieve this if it is not already the case?

Nagios state transition and event handler issue

We are using Nagios to check duplicate processes. define service { use local-service host_name xxx service_description xxx Duplicate Processes check_interval 1 max_check_attempts 1 contact_groups admins event_handler restart-dependent-processes check_command check_procs_duplicate!2!3!2!2!2 } check_procs_duplicate checks if there are any duplicate processes and returns the state - e.g. CRITICAL. The event handler kills the duplicate processes and it's dependent processes and starts one instance of the process and dependent process. At the end of this again Nagios checks if there are any duplicate processes and sets the state accordingly - OK/WARNING/CRITICAL. The event handler takes more time to start the processes and during this time if someone manually starts the process, the state will remain in CRITICAL itself. During the next interval, Nagios will again check for duplicate processes and it will find it again CRITICAL. The event handler will not get executed now, as the previos and current both the states are CRITICAL. Any pointers about how to fix this issue?

Do I need to create a new VM and install TFS (configure as controller) and then link it from the VM to the main TFS instance? Changing Chrome Working Directories on Mac clients

We're using Mac OSX 10.6.8 with NFS for home directories. Chrome seems to not like this, for a user who is logged in more than one machine. AFP was ok, but for other reasons we need NFS. It only allows you to start one instance. Ie, userA logged in to Mac1, Mac2. Can only have chrome open on Mac1 OR mac2, not both. I have read at this thread, changing working directory, and sym link can fix... but I can't find the details. Can someone help?

I am really new to this and am having trouble with how I can store information from a website. I am going to be making a site similar to dropbox for my company and there is gonna be around 40 TB of space that we need to be able to access on the go, for instance pull the file up on the phone or off our laptop using the internet. Obviously using an Amazon S3 server is not the most cost effective way of doing this so how can I make my own server to hold all of the info and communicate to it from a website? Please I need as much help as possible, like a blueprint or something. Thanks and sorry for the noobish question but I can't really find an exact answer to my question.

How do I set up a mailing list for over 2000 people?

I manage IT for a large organization with over 2000 people. The administration would like to send an email (often with up to 5 word document attachments) about once per week. They also want to categorize people. For instance, about 40 people are "teachers," about 1800 people are "students," and about 10 people are "board members." They may send an email to any combination of these categories. Here's what I have tried: I bought a server, installed Ubuntu server edition on it, and wrote a python script to send out their emails. However, pretty soon, mail services such as Gmail and Yahoo began to treat the mail I send out as SPAM. I'm guessing this is because I am sending an email with 2000+ people in the "bcc" field. Maintaining this server also takes a lot of time. How do I set up a mailing list for over 2000 people? Must I defer to paid services?

Note that inode_cache & ext3_inode_cache slabs are very small compared to dentry_cache. What happens is that slowly and steadily the within a week dentry_cache grows from 1M to ~5-6G Then I need to run echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches && echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches This started to happening one day on all servers hosting some web code - the developers are saying that they have not changed anything related to filesystem access pattern around the time then the problem started. The system is centos5 with 2.6.18 kernel so I don't have any instrumentation features available th newer kernels. Any I idea how I can debug the problem? maybe with systemtap? This is a ec2 instance - so not even sure that systemtap will work there. Thanks Alex

TileEntitySpecialRenderer only renders from certain angle

I'm developing a Minecraft mod with Forge. I've added a tileentity and a custom renderer for it. The problem is: The block is only visible from sertain angles. I've compaed my code to other peoples code and it looks pretty much like them. The block is opaque and not to be rendered and the renderer is registered normally so the fault must be in the renderer. One difference I noticed between the test and production environment is when I used the soap url in the browser the production site pops up a 'Authentication Required' popup. When I gives my proxy username and password in this popup, it shows the soap request details. The same is applicable for the login url also. First it will ask for the 'Authentication' then it will take to the sugar crm login page? Is it a server security setting? If it is then how to set this user name and password using java in a web service call. The authentication required popup is same as the one which comes when we try to access the tomcat manager through a browser. Thanks

Overriding the save() method of a model that uses django-mptt

I've been using django-mptt in my project for a while now, it's fabulous. Recently, I've found a need to override a model's save() method that uses mptt, and I'm getting an error when I try to save a new instance of that model: Exception Type: ValueError at /admin/scrivener/page/add/ Exception Value: Cannot use None as a query value I'm assuming that this is a result of the fact that the instance hasn't been stuck into a tree yet, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. OpenGL/SharpGL - Points only on -near surface of Ortho projection?

When you create points using three dimensions for each point and you use an Ortho projection to view the points, would there be a reason that only the points on the -near surface would appear? For example, if you use (the SharpGL method) gl.Ortho(0, width, height, 0, -10, 10), only the points at z=10 (because the near surface is at -10) actually show up. I'm currently using SharpGL - but I'm hoping the issue I'm having isn't with that particular implementation/library. EDIT: I'm adding the code below that demonstrates the issue. Note that this example requires SharpGL and is in fact a modification of a WPF sample project that comes with the current SharpGL source code (the original sample project is called TwoDSample). The project requires a MainWindow.xaml and a MainWindow.xaml.cs. DSOFramer closing Excel doc in another window. If unsaved data in file, dsoframer fails to open with

I'm using Microsoft's DSOFramer control to allow me to embed an Excel file in my dialog so the user can choose his sheet, then select his range of cells; it's used with an import button on my dialog. The problem is that when I call the DSOFramer's OPEN function, if I have Excel open in another window, it closes the Excel document (but leaves Excel running). If the document it tries to close has unsaved data, I get a dialog boxclosing Excel doc in another window. If unsaved data in file, dsoframer fails to open with a messagebox: "Attempt to access invalid address". I built the source, and stepped through, and its making a call in its CDsoDocObject::CreateFromFile function, calling BindToObject on an object of class IMoniker. The HR is 0x8001010a "The message filter indicated that the application is busy". On that failure, it tries to InstantiateDocObjectServer by classid of CLSID Microsoft Excel Worksheet... this fails with an HRESULT of 0x80040154 "Class not registered". The InstantiateDocObjectServer just calls CoCreateInstance on the classid, first with CLSCTX_LOCAL_SERVER, then (if that fails) with CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER. I know DSOFramer is a popular sample project for embedding Office apps in various dialogs and forms. I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and might have some insight on how I can solve this. I really don't want it to close any other open Excel documents, and I really don't want it to error-out if it can't close the document due to unsaved data. Update 1: I've tried changing the classid that's passed in to "Excel.Application" (I know that class will resolve), but that didn't work. In CDsoDocObject, it tries to open key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\DocObject", but fails. I've visually confirmed that the key is not present in my registry; The key is present for the guid, but there's no DocObject subkey. It then produces an error message box: "The associated COM server does not support ActiveX document embedding". I get similar (different key, of course) results when I try to use the Excel.Workbook programid. Update 2: I tried starting a 2nd instance of Excel, hoping that my automation would bind to it (being the most recently invoked) instead of the problem Excel instance, but it didn't seem to do that. Results were the same. My problem seems to have boiled down to this: I'm calling the BindToObject on an object of class IMoniker, and receiving 0x8001010A (RPC_E_SERVERCALL_RETRYLATER) "The message filter indicated that the application is busy". I've tried playing with the flags passed to the BindToObject (via the SetBindOptions), but nothing seems to make any difference. Update 3: It first tries to bind using an IMoniker class. If that fails, it calls CoCreateInstance for the clsid as a "fallback" method. This may work for other MS Office objects, but when it's Excel, the class is for the Worksheet. I modified the sample to CoCreateInstance _Application, then got the workbooks, then called the Workbooks::Open for the target file, which returns a Worksheet object. I then returned that pointer and merged back with the original sample code path. All working now.
