• Having trouble with confusing behaviour of error between debug and release modes in Xcode

  Hi guys, I am confused over something (what is new!). I have an iPhone program I am writing and using some sqlite in a certain method, and there is some error which is giving me a message that says "Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” Okay, so I am trying to hunt down why this is doing this, and I notice something: When I run the program in debug mode, it gives me this error every single time I access this method (I test on the device). However when I run the program in release mode, I can access this method 2 times, and then it will give me this error the third time. So I mean, can someone just give me an explanation of what might cause this, I think that maybe deep-down I am not that smart on the difference in XCode of debug and release modes. I think that release mode does optimizing, and I guess the actual assembly machine code comes out different, yes? I AM A BIG NEWBIE USER UNFORTUNATELY! I am not clear on a lot of things like this, or whether it needs for I to remove nslog commands in the release build and such. Maybe I should just post the actual code in separate Stack OVerflow post, and see if people can see the error, then maybe this all become clear to me.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 - How do I use an Interface as the Type for a Strongly Typed View

  I'd like to keep my concrete classes separate from my views. Without using strongly typed views, I'm fine. I just use a big parameter list in the controller method signatures and then use my service layer factory methods to create my concrete objects. This is actually just fine with me, but it got me thinking and after a little playing, I realized it was literally impossible for a controller method to accept an interface as a method parameter - because it has no way of instantiating it. Can't create a strongly-typed view using an interface through the IDE either (which makes sense actually). So my question. Is there some way to tell the controller how to instantiate the interface parameter using my service layer factory methods? • How do I sanitize a string in PHP that contains "; Echo"? (I have a solid reason)

  I turned this case into a simple PHP page that submits to itself. My issue is that I am submitting track meet results and one of the girl's names is Echo...a lovely name. The problem text I'm submitting is: Pole vault - Rachel Simons, Tow, 8-6; Echo Wilson, Cit, 8-0; Molly Randall, Tow, 7-0; So you see a semicolon followed by white space followed by Echo... After submitting, it says: POST to /results/test.php not supported The end goal is to save it to a database along with some other info and have a search page to find it and simply print out the full result on the screen. I stripped out all my database stuff to get it down to this one error. I mean, I can intentionally mis-spell her name, but there's gotta be a way around this, right???   Hello, I'm using asp.net mvc ajax. The partial view is using Ajax.BeginForm (just an example): <div id="divPlaceholder"> <% using (Ajax.BeginForm(new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "divPlaceholder" })) { %> ... asp.net mvc controls and validation messages <input type="submit" value="Save" /> <% } %> </div> After update, if validation fails, the html is: <div id="divPlaceholder"> <div id="divPlaceholder"> ...form </div> </div> I don't like that the returned html is inserted, instead it should replace original div. Probably on POST I should not render <div> around form in partial view or render the div without id. What else can I do in this situation? I was thinking that maybe I should write a helper, something like Ajax.DivBeginForm, which will render form inside div on GET and hide the div on POST. Can somebody provide a good advice how to write such helper (Ajax.DivBeginForm)? I'd like it to work with using keyword: <% using (Ajax.DivBeginForm(new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "myId" })) { ... }%>

  I need to populate some data into a table. The data i have is something i get in response from my ASP.NET MVC site, when i make a json post call there. Yet i can't seem to find a way to actually display the data i get back in response. Here is my code so far. • Using a randomly generated token for flood control.

  Basic setup of my site is: user enters a message on the homepage, hits enter and the message is sent though a AJAX request to a file called like.php where it echo's a link that gets sent back to the user. I have made the input disable when the user presses enter, but there's nothing stopping the user from just constantly flooding like.php with POST request and filling up my database. Someone here on SO told me to use a token system but didn't mention how. I've seen this being done before and from what I know it is effective. The only problem I have is how will like.php know it's a valid token? My code is this at the moment: $token = md5(rand(0, 9999) * 1000000); and the markup: <input type="hidden" name="token" value="<?php echo $token ?>" /> Which will send the token to like.php through POST. But how will like.php know that this is a valid token? Should I instead token something that's linked to the user? Like their IP address? Or perhaps token the current minute and check that it's the same minute in like.php... Any help on this amtter would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)

• Using Tcl DSL in Python

  I have a bunch of Python functions. Let's call them foo, bar and baz. They accept variable number of string arguments and does other sophisticated things (like accessing the network). I want the "user" (let's assume he is only familiar with Tcl) to write scripts in Tcl using those functions. Is this possible to do in Python? • Opengl: fit a quad to screen, given the value of Z.

  Short Version of the question: I will put a quad. I know the width and height of the screen in window coordinates, i know the Z-coordinates of the quad in 3D. I know the FOVY, I know the aspect. The quad will be put along Z-axis, My camera doesn't move (placed at 0, 0, 0). I want to find out the width and height of the quad IN 3D COORDINATES that will fit exactly onto my screen. Long Version of the question: I would like to put a quad along the Z-axis at the specified offset Z, I would like to find out the width and height of the quad that will exactly fill the entire screen. I used to have a post on gamedev.net that uses a formula similar to the following: *dist = Z * tan ( FOV / 2 )* Now I can never find the post! Though it's similar, it is still different, because I remembered in that working formula, they do make use of screenWidth and screenHeight, which are the width and height of the screen in window coordinates. I am not really familiar with concepts like frustum, fov and aspect so that's why I can't work out the formula on my own. Besides, I am sure I don't need gluUnproject (I tried it, but the results are way off). It's not some gl calls, it's just a math formula that can find out the width and height in 3D space that can fill the entire screen, IF Z offset, width in window coordinates, and height in window coordinates, are known. • Why would ASP.NET MVC use session state?

  Recommended by the ASP.NET team to use cache instead of session, we stopped using session from working with the WebForm model the last few years. So we normally have the session turned off in the web.config <sessionState mode="Off" /> But, now when I'm testing out a ASP.NET MVC application with this setting it throw an error in class SessionStateTempDataProvider inside the mvc framework, it asked me to turn on session state, I did and it worked. Looking at the source it uses session Dictionary<string, object> tempDataDictionary = httpContext.Session[TempDataSessionStateKey] as Dictionary<string, object>; // line 20 in SessionStateTempDataProvider.cs So, why would they use session here? What am I missing? Thanks, Ray. ======================================================== Edit Sorry didn't mean for this post to debate on session vs. cache, but rather in the context of the ASP.NET MVC, I was just wondering why session is used here. In this Scott Watermasysk blog post he mentioned on turning off session too as a good practice, so I'm just wondering do I have to turn it on to use MVC from here on?

• Created files on Archos 5 invisible on Windows Xp

  I am fairly new to Android and this is my first post so I apologise in advance if I am breaking protocol or posting to the wrong board. Please feel free to move this post to somewhere more appropriate if required. I am developing for the 160 Gb Archos 5 Internet tablet. Not ideal as a development platform I know, but customer requirements mean we have no choice. It is running Android 1.6. I have updated the device firmware to the most recent available. Updating the version of Android is not an option at this point. Part of my app's requirement is to write information out to .txt files on the external storage directory so that these can be copied over the USB connection to a Windows XP PC using the Mobile media device (MTP) mode. I have followed all instructions I have come across carefully, eg I check that the storage is available using the technique described at http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#filesExternal. However, althoug the files are created succesfully on the device (I can browse them and open them using the device's File Explorer - they are fine), when I connect the device to a Windows XP computer none of the directories or files I created appear and the size of their parent files suggest they do not exist. I have tried running over the ADB, checked logcat, tried a (signed) release version and even written a second test application which just creates a folder (this behaves the same, ie it creates the folder but this is not visible in Windows Explorer) - nothing anywhere gives me any suggestion as to what the problem might be. If anyone has heard of this before or has any ideas as to what else | could try to fix it please get in touch! We do not have any other devices to test on at the moment, although I hope to remedy this soon, customer permitting.

The content of this request is not a parameter but the body itself. • How do I debug into an ILMerged assembly?

  Summary I want to alter the build process of a 2-assembly solution, such that a call to ILMerge is invoked, and the build results in a single assembly. Further I would like to be able to debug into the resultant assembly. Preparation - A simple example New Solution - ClassLibrary1 Create a static function 'GetMessage' in Class1 which returns the string "Hello world" Create new console app which references the ClassLibrary. Output GetMessage from main() via the console. You now have a 2 assembly app which outputs "Hello World" to the console. So what next..? I would like to alter the Console app build process, to include a post build step which uses ILMerge, to merge the ClassLibrary assembly into the Console assembly After this step I should be able to: Run the Console app directly with no ClassLibrary1.dll present Run the Console app via F5 (or F11) in VS and be able to debug into each of the 2 projects. Limited Success I read this blogpost and managed to achieve the merge I was after with a post-build command of... "$(ProjectDir)ILMerge.bat" "$(TargetDir)" $(ProjectName) ...and an ILMerge.bat file which read... CD %1 Copy %2.exe temp.exe ILMerge.exe /out:%2.exe temp.exe ClassLibrary1.dll Del temp.exe Del ClassLibrary1.* This works fairly well, and does in fact produce an exe which runs outside the VS environment as required. However it does not appear to produce symbols (.pdb file) which VS is able to use in order to debug into the code. I think this is the last piece of the puzzle. Does anyone know how I can make this work? FWIW I am running VS2010 on an x64 Win7 x64 machine.

• Implementing a scrabble trainer

  Hello, I've recently been playing alot of online scrabble so I decided to make a program that quickly searches through a dictionary of 200,000+ words with an input of up to any 26 letters. My first attempt was fail as it took a while when you input 8 or more letters (just a basic look through dictionary and cancel out a letter if its found kind of thing), so I made a tree like structure containing only an array of 26 of the same structure and a flag to indicate the end of a word, doing that It can output all possible words in under a second even with an input of 26 characters. But it seems that when I input 12 or more letters with some of the same characters repeated i get duplicates; can anyone see why I would be getting duplicates with this code? (ill post my program at the bottom) Also, the next step once the duplicates are weeded out is to actually be able to input the letters on the game board and then have it calculate the best word you can make on a given board. I am having trouble trying to figure out a good algorithm that can analyze a scrabble board and an input of letters and output a result; the possible words that could be made I have no problem with but actually checking a board efficiently (ie can this word fit here, or here etc... without creating a non dictionary word in the process on some other string of letters) Anyone have a idea for an approach at that? (given a scrabble board, and an input of 7 letters, find all possible valid words or word sets that you can make) lol crap i forgot to email myself the code from my other computer thats in another state... ill post it on monday when I get back there! btw the dictionary im using is sowpods (http://www.calvin.edu/~rpruim/scrabble/ospd3.txt)

  Hi guys, I have a form that has two buttons on it, one yes, one no, and at the moment I capture the clicked button into a database, but for some reason, it doesn't always capture the clicked button, I have gone through all my code and everything seems fine, here is the form <div id="mid_prompt"> <form action="refer.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: left;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/yes.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="yes" /></span> </div> </form> <form action="thank_you.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: right;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/no.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="no" /></span> </div> </form> </div> I am using sessions to carry the variables all the way to the end of the forms where I then write all the data to a database, I have checked my sessions and they seem to be working fine, the only one that is giving problems is the yes/no. So basically I need it to capture that yes/no everytime. Thanx in advance!

• Is CakePhp 'standards compliant' when generating HTML, Forms, etc?

  So I've been reading a lot of "Designing with Web Standards" and really enjoying it. I'm a big CakePhp user, and as I look at the source for various form elements that Cake creates with its FormHelper, I see all sorts of extraneous In the book, he promotes semantic HTML, and writing your markup as simple / generic as possible. So my question is, am I better writing my own HTML in these situations? I really want to work in compliance with XHTML and CSS standards, and it seems I'd spend just as much time (if not more) cleaning up Cakes HTML, when I could just write my own thoughts? p.s. • merging two small pieces of jquery codes

  Following are two pieces of jquery code. First one prints a text message when clicked on a link, and the second slides down a div when click on a link. I want to merge second code into first one, so that when I click the link, it displays the message (as the first code does), and also slides down the #votebox (as done in second code, and show content in that. • Anchor as a Submit button

  I have an MVC 2 application that has the following on it; <% using( Html.BeginForm("Results","Quote", FormMethod.Post, new { name="Results" })){ %> <% Html.RenderPartial("Needs", Model.needs); %> <div class="But green" style=""> <a href="." onclick="javascript:document.Results.submit();">Go</a> </div> <input type="submit" /> <%} %> Pressing the Submit button or the anchor both post back to the right ActionResult. However, when in the controller I return View(stuff..) only the Submit button will come back to the page. When the call finishes from pressing the anchor, I go to an error page informing me that the resource cannot be found. I suspect it has something to do with href="." but am unsure what to set it to.

• curl cookie not creating on success

  Hi I'm using cUrl(PHP) to post a login request and store response in cookie file. In my second request I'm passing cookie in header and post data to verify it. Issue is that cookie file is not created in first succesful request results in failure for second request. • Using Ant how can I dex a directory of jars?

  I have a directory full of jars (felix bundles). I want to iterate through all of these jars and create dex'd versions. My intent is to deploy each of these dex'd jars as standalone apk's since they are bundles. Feel free to straighten me out if I am approaching this from the wrong direction. This first part is just to try and create a corresponding .dex file for each jar. However when I run this I am getting a "no resources specified" error coming out of Ant. Is this the right approach, or is there a simpler approach to just input a jar and output a dex'd version of that jar?
