  • How can I run supervisord without using root?

    I seem to be having trouble figuring out why supervisord won't run as a non-root user.   • Custom forms in Sharepoint with MS SQL Server as Backend. Is it possible?

    We're evaluating using SharePoint 2010 as our project management tool. Specifically, the system needs to satisfy the following: Discussion groups Project management (simple issue tracking, no complex workflows or vcs integrations) News feed for the project(s) File sharing based on authorization/user-roles Custom homepage Custom forms using MS SQL Server as a backend and contents of old forms searchable from the user interface. Now, I think [1-5] is possible using SharePoint (Comments are always welcome :)). I'm not sure about [6]. Is it possible? For instance, can an admin or a user of the SharePoint portal, create a custom form (without any programming) that uses MS SQL Server as a backend and publish it to the portal so that other users can also perform data entry? If it can be done (be it with or without some programming), can users perform text search on form data using the SharePoint interface?

  • Business Owners - What Remote Desktop Solution Do You Use To Service Your Clients PCs?

    Howdy fellow computer geeks, I am the owner of a local computer repair business that primarily services its clients on-site. On the occasions that we do service the machines in the office we generally have one of our techs pick the computer up while they are out and about and bring it back with them. Only rarely will we require the customer to bring us the computer themselves. In order to reduce costs, be much more efficient, and potentially expand our market far beyond what would be feasible with travel required; I am looking at ways that we can service our clients remotely whenever possible. What we're in need of is a solid remote desktop application that will be incredibly easy for our customers to connect to, as well as be robust enough that we don't need the client babysitting the computer during the entire repair. Ideally I would like to use a web-based solution so that we don't have to walk the customers through installing, connecting, and configuring it over the phone. This would be unacceptable because of the level of service they are used to. Effectively we'd want them to be able to just go to a URL, enter a PIN or something, and then they are connected and ready to rumble. (Obviously the option to just email them a link that'd do all this for them would be what we'd be aiming for) Along with the ease of use factor, we would need the product to not require any further intervention on the part of the client after we have connected. Nobody is going to be happy if we have to call them every 15 minutes so they can reconnect to us every time we reboot - so auto-reconnect is an absolute must. The only product I know of right now that does any of this is LogMeIn Rescue. It allows unattended access, the applet is lightweight and installs quickly, and the customer can either enter a PIN on the site or just click a link emailed to them in order to connect. The only real downside I see to LogMeIn Rescue is that it's $120.00/month per technician. While we'd ultimately end up saving far more than that per month just in fuel costs alone, I'd like to explore any other options out there that I may not have come across. So - Are there any equally good products out there? If so what are they, why do you recommend them, how have you been utilizing them yourself, and what do they cost?   • Will this RAID5 setup work (3TB Seagate Barracudas + Adaptec RAID 6405)?

    As the title states, will this RAID combo work, and if not what needs to be changed? Overall opinions would be most helpful. I currently run a small file server of about 5TB or so. I keep outgrowing my needs and need to build a RAID setup that will allow me to expand as needed. I am new to RAID setups, especially one of the scale I have currently planned out, but I have being doing some research for the past couple of weeks and have come up with a build. Ideally, I'd have the setup completely built, but I'd like to keep the total cost around $1k and can't afford to go above $1.5k, so unfortunately that's not an option. 2 of my current drives are WD Caviar Blacks 2TB; however, I have recently learned that due to the lack of TLER those drives are awful for any RAID setup other than 0 or 1. That being said, my third drive is a Seagate Barracuda 3TB (ST300DM001) and I have found a RAID controller that states it supports it, so I'd like to use this same type of drive, if possible. Have any of you had any experience using this drive or a similar one in a RAID5 configuration? The manufacturer states that it supports it, but knowing that it is not an enterprise drive, I am slightly concerned that it could drop out of the array. I would just go with enterprise drives, but those are about double in cost... It should be based on ASP.NET so I can add some extra specific pages offer a membership system, e.g. I want to be able to define members which can e.g. comment posts, while anonymous users can only read (no active participation) have features like news, forums, blogs, picture gallery be simple and easy to use I've been looking at GraffitiCMS: so far my favorite, but it has no forum, and no membership system, and no future, it seems - no development whatsoever in over a year :-( Sitefinity: had extreme trouble even getting it installed, and when it's finally up and running, I find it overly complicated and not intuitive at all Umbraco: same problem - hard to install, hard to get up and running, the intro videos on their site are only available to paying subscribers (what's up with that deal???)..... The server load is more than 80 and cpu usr is more than 86% but iowait is less than 8%. The disk iops is more than 16000 and util of disk is more than 99%. When the QPS decreases, the load decreases, the cpu iowait increases.   • What Remote Desktop Solution Do You Use To Service Your Clients' PCs? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: What’s the best Remote Desktop Application? I am the owner of a local computer repair business that primarily services its clients on-site. On the occasions that we do service the machines in the office we generally have one of our techs pick the computer up while they are out and about and bring it back with them. Only rarely will we require the customer to bring us the computer themselves. In order to reduce costs, be much more efficient, and potentially expand our market far beyond what would be feasible with travel required; I am looking at ways that we can service our clients remotely whenever possible. What we're in need of is a solid remote desktop application that will be incredibly easy for our customers to connect to, as well as be robust enough that we don't need the client babysitting the computer during the entire repair. Ideally I would like to use a web-based solution so that we don't have to walk the customers through installing, connecting, and configuring it over the phone. This would be unacceptable because of the level of service they are used to. Effectively we'd want them to be able to just go to a URL, enter a PIN or something, and then they are connected and ready to rumble. (Obviously the option to just email them a link that'd do all this for them would be what we'd be aiming for) Along with the ease of use factor, we would need the product to not require any further intervention on the part of the client after we have connected. Nobody is going to be happy if we have to call them every 15 minutes so they can reconnect to us every time we reboot - so auto-reconnect is an absolute must. The only product I know of right now that does any of this is LogMeIn Rescue. It allows unattended access, the applet is lightweight and installs quickly, and the customer can either enter a PIN on the site or just click a link emailed to them in order to connect. The only real downside I see to LogMeIn Rescue is that it's $120.00/month per technician. While we'd ultimately end up saving far more than that per month just in fuel costs alone, I'd like to explore any other options out there that I may not have come across. Are there any equally good products out there? If so what are they, why do you recommend them, how have you been utilizing them yourself, and what do they cost?

  • Disk Image Tools for Windows Server 2008

    I have a Windows Server 2008 X64 machine that I need to swap the boot drive on. I'd like to use a disk image/restore utility to make an image of the boot partition and restore that to the new drive. Does anyone know of a free or reasonably priced tool that can do this? I know that Acronis True Image will do it, but you need to have their server product to restore images of a server OS and it's prohibitively expensive ($850). Thanks, jon

Is it supported after a BIOS update, or are they simply copy/pasting laundry lists of LGA775 CPUs?

Only difference is that baclient version - on the working setup the baclient is at 5.4.0.2. Clues anyone?

  • Is there a way to make software available for remote installation in Windows Server?

    I've heard of folks having a sort of "software repository" which contains a database of product keys and then network installation media for operating systems and other Microsoft software, such as Office. With this, they were then able to join a computer to the domain and grant that user privileges to a set of software and then the client was able to use it either remotely or locally on their machine. I believe it installed from the server on to their local machine. Does anyone happen to know what this is?

  • Cross platform support for network attached USB hubs?

    I am looking at network-attached USB hubs in order to run licensed software in a virtualized environment when hardware dongles are required. Are there any solutions that will work with both Linux and Windows? Most of the dedicated devices -- such as the Zonet ZUH2214 or the (oddly expensive) Digi AnywherUSB/2 -- appear to be Windows-only. Linux has the the USB/IP project, for which there appear to be Windows drivers, but the last "News" post on the site was in 2007, so I'm not entirely confident about the viability of the project. Has anyone out there found a solution that will work well in both environments?
