  • Encoding::UndefinedConversionError from email body

    - by raam86
    using mail for ruby I am getting this message: mail.rb:22:in `encode': "\xC7" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8 (Encoding::UndefinedConversionError) from mail.rb:22:in `<main>' If I remove encode I get a message ruby /var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/bson-1.7.0/lib/bson/bson_ruby.rb:63:in `rescue in to_utf8_binary': String not valid utf-8: "<div dir=\"ltr\"><div class=\"gmail_quote\">l<br><br><br><div dir=\"ltr\"><div class=\"gmail_quote\"><br><br><br><div dir=\"ltr\"><div class=\"gmail_quote\"><br><br><br><div dir=\"ltr\"><div dir=\"rtl\">\xC7\xE1\xE4\xD5 \xC8\xC7\xE1\xE1\xDB\xC9 \xC7\xE1\xDA\xD1\xC8\xED\xC9</div></div>\r\n</div><br></div>\r\n</div><br></div>\r\n</div><br></div>" (BSON::InvalidStringEncoding) This is my code: require 'mail' require 'mongo' connection = Mongo::Connection.new db = connection.db("DB") db = Mongo::Connection.new.db("DB") newsCollection = db["news"] Mail.defaults do retriever_method :pop3, :address => "pop.gmail.com", :port => 995, :user_name => 'my_username', :password => '*****', :enable_ssl => true end emails = Mail.last #Checks if email is multipart and decods accordingly. Put to extract UTF8 from body plain_part = emails.multipart? ? (emails.text_part ? emails.text_part.body.decoded : nil) : emails.body.decoded html_part = emails.html_part ? emails.html_part.body.decoded : nil mongoMessage = {"date" => emails.date.to_s , "subject" => emails.subject , "body" => plain_part.encode('UTF-8') } msgID = newsCollection.insert(mongoMessage) #add the document to the database and returns it's ID puts msgID For English and Hebrew it works perfectly but it seems gmail is sending arabic with different encoding. Replacing UTF-8 with ASCII-8BIT gives a similar error. I get the same result when using plain_part for plain email messages. I am handling emails from one specific source so I can put html_part with confidence it's not causing the error. To make it extra weird Subject in Arabic is rendered perfectly. What encoding should I use?

  • json_pure/rubygems cyclic dependencies

    - by andrewmcdonough
    I have an issue when trying to set up rvm, where gems weren't installing due to them being dependent on json_pure. I tried to install json_pure, but rubygems itself seems to depend on json_pure. I have tried removing all versions of json_pure, but rubygems still complains. $ sudo gem install json_pure /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:777:in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem json_pure (= 0) (Gem::LoadError) I have tried downloading the gem and installing it locally, but rubygems still complains about the dependency.

  • How to do HTTP authentication with Goliath/Heroku?

    - by David
    I'm using Goliath as my app server, and I am trying to convert "Ruby – Secure staging environment of your public app from users and bots" so it applies to my Goliath application. I am trying to use Rack::Static but I'm not sure how to write the code. I was trying something like: class Application < Goliath::API use(Rack::Lock) But I am not really sure how to translate the link I posted. I'm open to other alternatives, I just need my whole site password protected.

  • Sortable_element with RJS does not working

    - by jaycode
    I have a list of images where user can arrange their orders. When user uploaded an image, I want the list to still be sortable. I am using a similar upload that was described here: http://kpumuk.info/ruby-on-rails/in-place-file-upload-with-ruby-on-rails/ Please help. Here are the code for upload in view file: <% form_for [:admin, @new_image], :html => { :target => 'upload_frame', :multipart => true } do |f| %> <%= hidden_field_tag :update, 'product_images'%> <%= f.hidden_field :image_owner_id %> <%= f.hidden_field :image_owner_type %> <%= f.file_field :image_file %><br /> or get image from this URL: <%= f.text_field :image_file_url %> <%= f.hidden_field :image_file_temp %><br /> <%= f.submit "Upload Image" %> <% end %> And in controller view: def create @image = Image.new(params[:image]) logger.debug "params are #{params.inspect}" if @image.save logger.debug "initiating javascript now" responds_to_parent do render :update do |page| logger.debug "javascript test #{sortable_element("product_images", :url => sort_admin_images_path, :handle => "handle", :constraint => false)}" page << "show_notification('Image Uploaded');" page.replace_html params[:update], :partial => '/admin/shared/editor/images', :locals => {:object => @image.image_owner, :updated_image => @image} page << sortable_element("product_images", :url => sort_admin_images_path, :handle => "handle", :constraint => false) end end #render :partial => '/admin/shared/editor/images', :locals => {:object => @image.image_owner, :updated_image => @image} else responds_to_parent do render :update do |page| page << "show_notification('Image Upload Error');" end end end end Or, to rephrase the question: Running this: page.replace_html params[:update], :partial => '/admin/shared/editor/images', :locals => {:object => @image.image_owner, :updated_image => @image} page << sortable_element("product_images", :url => sort_admin_images_path, :handle => "handle", :constraint => false) Will NOT adding sortable list feature.   • agility of asp.net MVC

    - by Hellnar
    Hello I am wondering how agile (fast to develop yet stable) asp.net MVC compared to frameworks using dynamic languages such as Django or Ruby on Rails. I will be happy if you share you experiance in the name of development speed (assuming each language/framework is known at a similar level) Things I love about Django Fast model design thanks to ORM Good template system Not too hard to deploy Easy to extend Lots of free apps to plugin and great documentation Thanks

  • Twitter Oauth GMT / BST problem

    - by Andrei Serdeliuc
    I keep getting 401 when trying to login via Oauth with Twitter. I'm using twitter_oauth-0.3.3 with oauth-0.3.6 in rails It used to work perfectly some time ago, so after some digging, I realised it might have something to do with my timezone. In the headers of the Twitter response, one of them is: date: - Sun, 11 Apr 2010 16:53:34 GMT Even though the time is actually 17:53:34 BST I'm assuming the request is signed using BST time, and so it fails. Anyone had this problem / found a fix for it?

  • How to use bundler gem binaries in path

    - by Sean Chambers
    I just started using bundler for gem packaging in vendor/. The problem is with certain gems (like rspec and cucumber) that have binaries. The binary path that is under my_app/vendor/gems/ruby/1.8/...cucumber-0.6.2/bin/ is not in my path, therefore when I go to run cucumber i get command cannot be found. What is the easiest way to execute the bundled gem binaries from within the app rather than adding a large number of folders to my path? Thanks
