• Java multi-threading - what is the best way to monitor the activity of a number of threads?

  I have a number of threads that are performing a long runing task. These threads themselves have child threads that do further subdivisions of work. What is the best way for me to track the following: How many total threads my process has created What the state of each thread currently is What part of my process each thread has currently got to I want to do it in as efficient a way as possible and once threads finish, I don't want any references to them hanging around becasuse I need to be freeing up memory as early as possible. Any advice?

• WCF service blocked by Windows Firewall

  Hi, I've got a WCF service using a HttpBinding. The service is running in a self hosting process (A Windows Service) and this process is inside the Windows Firewall exceptions list. If the Firewall is active and I'm trying to access the service using a C# client or Internet Explorer, the service does not respond. But if the Firewall is disabled the connection works like a charm. Does anyone have expirence with WCF and the Windows Firewall? The problem came up on Windows 7 64bit. I didn't try another OS yet. Regards Michael

  I am using javax.swing.SwingWorker for the first time. I want to update a JLabel from the interim result published by the swing worker as follows: publish("Published String"); Now to update the JLabel, I have coded the following: process(List<String> chunks) { if (chunks.size() > 0) { String text = chunks.get(chunks.size() - 1); label.setText(text); } } The above code works but my problem(or to be more specific, my doubt) is as follows: The above swing worker task is an annonymous inner class so it can access label field. But what if I want to make the swing worker class a non-inner class. Should I need to pass label as an argument to the constructor of swing worker class so that the process() method can access. Or Is there any other way? What approach does other developer follow to update UI components from the swing worker class' result when the swing worker class is not an inner class?

• c# - pull records from database without timeout

  Hi folks, i have a sql query with multiple joins & it pulls data from a database for processing. This is supposed to be running on some scheduled basis. So day 1, it might pull 500, day 2 say 400. Now, if the service is stopped for some reason & the data not processed, then on day3 there could be as much as 1000 records to process. This is causing timeout on the sql query. How best to handle this situation without causing timeout & gradually reducing workload to process? TIA

  Hello, I created a powershell object via .net to invoke commands. When I invoke normal commands like 'Get-Process' I had no problems: ps.AddCommand("Get-Process").AddParameter(...).Invoke() but I'm not able to invoke a .net method with the syntax "[namespace.class]::method", just to make an example to invoke [System.IO.File]::Exists("c:\boo.txt"). I tried with ps.AddCommand("[System.IO.File]::Exists(\"c:\boo.txt\")").Invoke() ps.AddCommand("[System.IO.File]::Exists").AddArgument("c:\boo.txt\").Invoke() and some others. It always throws an exception which says that the command specified is not recognized. There is a way to invoke that type of command? Thanks

  I have hundreds of files with different names that I want to translate into a different language. Is there an application/CLI action that would allow me to copy all this names as in a list/table and then, after having translated them, to paste them back into the list/table, or that would allow a procedure somewhat similar to "Rename" in Thunar but with a more complex action closer to what I have described? (I am in Lubuntu and I prefer not to use Nautilus due to unwanted interference with LXDE/pcmanfm desktop and LXPanel. If there is a solution in Nautilus please provide it but try to give an alternative if possible.)

• dvi generation: no bounding box

  Hi, I wrote a research paper in latex and generated pdf using kile. It worked perfectly well. Now conference people are asking for dvi file also. But Kile's quick build process does not give a dvi file, but its 'Latex' compile process does. So I tried to compile the document, and it gave errors for includegraphics saying figure not found. When I append the correct extensions to the image names, that errors stopped coming but new errors came "bounding box is missing". I added bounding box values and now DVI file is being generated. My questions are: I have tried giving very high and low bounding box values but there is no deformation in the PDF. Why? Can I generate a DVI without giving bounding box values?   Hi guys I'm developing a google apps solution and I'm building on the tutorial application give by google at http://code.google.com/googleapps/marketplace/tutorial_php.html - the thing is that the example given sets up the application such that the user has to enter in manually the email address or username and then it takes the user through an authentication process whereby it asks the user if they wish to allow the application to be given access to the services mentioned in the manifest.xml file. Isn't there a better way to do this I mean like I want that when the user upon logging into his google apps account just has to click in the application link installed and straight on should be able to enter the application. Can't the process of authentication and all be transparent in the backdrop. I need help on this asap. Thanks a bunch!

  I am trying to use port 80 for my application server, but when I perform "netstat -aon" I get TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4 When I look up the process in task manager, it shows PID 4 is SYSTEM, thats it, not extension... nothing, just "SYSTEM". Whats going on here? I'm afraid to end this process, what do I do? UPDATE: I've solved this through a stackoverflow question. Let's say http://name.blogspot.com/ and the other one is http://name2.blogspot.com/ For blog 1: While submitting sitemap to Google webmaster tool I selected the option and then added rss.xml at last. (http://name.blogspot.com/rss.xml) Sitemap added successfully. For blog 2: I followed the same procedure but it didn't work. Then I tried to open the url (http://name.blogspot.com/rss.xml). The url was showing the atom feeds. I tried same with the other blog but that url is redirecting to the feedburner feeds. I think this is the reason why the other blog's sitemap is not getting submitted. Help me with it.

  I work for a small E-Commerce shop and we are looking for a process that will handle resizing our product images dynamically. Currently our designers take high resolution photos, either provided by the manufactures or created in house, and alter them to fit various pages on our site. The designers are constantly resizing, cropping, altering compression levels, etc., of each product photo to fit the needs of the business. Being that our product line is updated frequently, this becomes a monotonous task. Abobe Scene7 does exactly what we are looking to do and the images are served up from a CDN. Unfortunately we found it to be too expensive. I'm curious to learn how others handle this process at their organizations. Does anyone know of any good 3rd party tools or other SAAS providers that can handle performing some basic image manipulation and serving them on the fly?

• SQL Server 2000 DTS Package Failing with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified"

  I have inherited a SQL Server 2000 DTS package that migrates data from SQL Server to Oracle. This package moves about 20 tables' data to Oracle every night with no transformations, and it is then transformed by a set of SPs and used by a GIS application. Twice this week, during the migration between SQL Server and Oracle, the package has failed with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified". It has failed on a different table each time, though. Each time it's failed, we've rerun the process the next morning and it has worked. Because the process works the second time it's run, it makes me think the data is being changed by someone or something between the initial failure and our successful second run. I would like to change the DTS package to log the failing rows in a text document so we can compare them later. Can someone help me with that? I can't seem to figure that part out. Scott

If there is an error processing one of the emails I would like to download it again next time I connect to the account but since I only get new emails and the failed one was already downloaded I don't get it so I can try to process it again. Anyway, they are different from those by google if to search by "keycaptcha" (in quotes) and by other search engines.
