• How can I set partial text color in JTextArea

• Ubuntu 12.04 boot degraded raid

  I've installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a new server and set up the 4 hard drives with 3 RAID 1 devices, the configuration is such that the first two drives have md0 (swap space) and md1 (/) with the third and fourth drives having md2 (/var). I've been testing the operation under a drive failure and found that the system boots fine if I remove disk two but if I remove disk one then the system gets to grub and then just restarts. I'm confused as to why grub appears to be loading properly from disk two but then the boot fails. I've tried to copy the MBR from disk 1 to 2: dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=1 but this didn't make a difference. • How to speed-up Eclipse startup?

  I've installed Eclipse Modelling Framework (eclipse-modeling-galileo-SR1-incubation-linux-gtk.tar.gz) by extracting 'features' and 'plugins' filders of the package to '~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.5.0_1543616141'. And now Eclipse splashscreen is shown for many minutes (the whole system (incl. BIOS, Linux and KDE) takes much less time to start). I don't need Eclipse Modelling Framework to be loaded at startup, if it is, I only need it when I start a modelling project. How to set up Eclipse to start faster and don't load all the plugins at startup time? My system runs Arch Linux 2010.05, OpenJDK 6.0, Eclipse 3.5.2.

• Restart mysql keeping the data

  I'm quite new using mysql, so let me know if I'm missing something. I took some holidays, and when I got back to work and I tried to log in phpmyadmin I got a ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2). I never had this problem, so I was browsing to look for a solution. I tried some things, and I'm afraid I touched too much. I couldn't solve the problem, and the I realized that I had some actualizations to be done, and I thought that they may be helpful for mysql. Then I also realized that when I was doing this actualizations first day, they stopped because I had a lack of space, so I restarted then. Then,when the system was configuring mysql, it didn't advance. I waited for a long time and then I just stopped it and restarted the computer. After it, I just tried to uninstall mysql with sudo apt-get remove mysql-server-5.1, and install it again, but it didn't work. Now I have 2 questions: What do you think it is happening? Should I remove mysql completely? What should I do? I'm afraid of losing my databases, is there anyway to recover the data? • Critique My Backup and Storage Plan

  My current storage (RAID-1 off of a hardware RAID card) and backup (a spare drive) solutions for my home network are inadequate. I have too much data scattered on various one-off drives. It is time to evolve. Backups seem simple enough, at least: lots of big drives. However, I am bewildered by the number of choices for small home storage. The Drobo S looks appealing. So does the ReadyNAS. I am not looking for bunches of shiny features, I'm mostly interested in reliability. I am not interested in building Yet Another PC to create a file server or doing something in the cloud, or whatever. I'm stupid, so I am keeping it simple. Requirements for Main Volume: Starting working space roughly 2TB, with options for growth up to 5TB RAID or something RAID-like with at least one parity drive eSATA II for speed during backups Ability to shut down gracefully when alerted of low power by a UPS Optional but Desirable: Will take 2TB drives now with options for the larger 3TB drives coming in 2010-2011 Optional but Desirable: : RAID-6 or something similar, with two parity drives Optional but Desirable: : Hot spare Ethernet connection not required, as the volume will be shared via the same machines which runs my home print server Backups: Backup performed via ROBOCOPY in mirror mode to an external hard drive via a eSATA II connection. Start with rotating between two external 2TB hard drives, will go up to six external 2TB drives. Start with a weekly backup, move to a bi-weekly backup as more drives are added. Move to 3TB drives as the size of my main volume increases. Backup drives will be stored on an off-site location. Hard drives: I plan on buying all of the same model, but different batches from different vendors. I found a "burn-in" utility with which I can pound away on the drives for a couple of weeks before adding them to the backup pool or the main volume. I estimate that I am looking at roughly $1,500 to start, once I start throwing in two TB drives for backup and four for storage. So, are there any obvious flaws in my plan? What have I overlooked? Any suggestions for the storage device for my main volume that fits my requirements? Or do I just keep it simple, 2 drives in RAID-1, then perform due diligence with my backups, accepting that I will have to buy a whole new unit when my data grows past 2TB?

• How to properly shutdown a Linux VMware Server Host

  Hi Everybody: In our lab, we have a server running Ubuntu Linux 8.04.4 x64, with VMware Server 2.1 hosting 4 VM's. I have a major concern with regards to shutting down the host server. Mostly, how do I ensure that the guest VM's are being shut down safely? In the VMware web interface console, I have enabled: "Allow virtual machines to start and stop automatically with the system" I enabled the Default Startup Delay for 15 seconds along with the "Start next VM immediately if the VMware Tools start" option checked I enabled the Default Shutdown Delay with a 60 second shutdown delay and a Shutdown Action of "Shut Down Guest" All VM's have the VMware Tools installed and properly working. All VM's are moved up into the "Specified Order" section of "Startup Order", thus when powering the server back on, all those VM's should start up again in that specified order. When I went to shut down the server, I used the shutdown -h now command. Based on the settings I entered above, I was expecting a 4 minute shutdown, as there is an option to delay the shutdown of each VM by 60 seconds. However, that is not what happened. Instead, the server shutdown in under a minute. When I powered the server back on, only 2 VM's properly loaded. The other 2 showed the following error: "Power on Virtual Machine" failed to complete If these problems problems persist, please contact your system administrator. Details: Cannot open the disk '[location to .vmdk]' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: Failed to lock the file. Obviously, if this error occured, then it is clear to me that the VM's were not properly shutdown, or the server powered off before the VM's were completely shutdown. I have fixed the above error by deleting the .lck files in the respective VM directories. How would I know if the VM's were properly shut down? I checked the VMware-server logs, but they only seem to display the logs of when the vmware-mgmt service is running in the current session. I'm mostly running Linux VM's, so is there an easy way to know whether or not a server was properly shut down in Linux? Thank you all for the help!

• Publishing my Website to my Local Disk Causes Exceptions to show Paths including my Local Disk

  I've published my website many times. But didn't think about this though until I came across this issue. So I decided to publish my WAP project to a local folder on my C drive first. Then used FTP to upload it to my shared host on discountasp.net. I noticed during runtime that the stack trace was referencing that local folder still and erroring out. Anyone know what config settings are affected when publishing? Obviously something is still pointing to my local C drive and I've searched my entire solution and don't see why. • Trust Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Headset

  Firstly, I'm writing this after 5 hours of nonstop struggle to make it work, so I searched into the deepest websites from Google, and tried many things. I have Trust Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter (link) Samsung HM1500 Bluetooth Headset Windows 7 64-bit Desktop PC Facts Nothing wrong with the headset. (it works, tested on a phone and a laptop. Problem is all about bluetooth dongle and its driver.) Trust BT adapter can send and receive files even without any driver. I can pair successfully without any driver too. In Headset's Properties, Services tab, Handsfree and Headset services are checked. Problem When I pair with my BT headset, I cannot see it as a sound playback device. Also when I double-click the headset device icon in Bluetooth Devices, in laptop: it opens a connection window where I can connect and disconnect to that device - perfect! in desktop: it opens the properties window, even though Handsfree and Headset services are checked (I check them explicitly, in laptop they came as already checked) - Problem! Unsuccessful driver installations The driver on the Trust's website says "Error 1606 Could not access Network Location" on start, so it doesn't get installed. The driver on Broadcom (link) is being closed with Windows's that classic "has stopped working" error on validation step, so it doesn't get installed too. (Those tests made more than once) Successful installation In the Win64 folder of Trust's driver from their website, if I install through "BTW.msi", it doesn't give me Error 1606 and it gets installed. Then the problem: When I try to start bluetooth from start menu (or it gets started at Windows startup), an error popup says: "BtBalloon.dll is missing..." so it doesn't start. I found BBalloon.dll in the driver folder, I renamed it to BtBalloon.dll, moved into Windows/system32 and Windows/SysWOW64 folders, and it seems working. Or maybe it gets closed behind the scenes. The bluetooth icon is there with or without this driver since Windows has it. Bluetooth Peripheral Device First it didn't get installed from Windows Update. After, I showed the driver folder path in Device Manager and pressed "Explore in this location". Surprisingly, it's being found as "Handsfree" driver. Now even I uninstall the drivers, it still can see the Handsfree. But still, no playback device. Any ideas to guide me? I'm out of ideas.

  The Overview I am working on a Continuous Integration build of a MFC appliction via CruiseControl.net and VS2010. When building my .sln, a "Visual Studio" CCNet task (devenv) works, but a wrapper MSBuild script run via the CCNet MSBuild task fails with errors like: error RC1015: cannot open include file 'winres.h'.. error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afxwin.h': No such file or directory error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afx.h': No such file or directory The Question How can I adjust the build environment of my msbuild wrapper so that the application builds correctly? (Pretty clearly the MFC paths aren't right for the msbuild environment, but how do i fix it for MSBuild+VS2010+MFC+CCNet?) Background Details We have successfully upgraded an MFC application (.exe with some MFC extension .dlls) to Visual Studio 2010 and can compile the application without issue on developer machines. Now I am working on compiling the application on the CI server environment I did a full installation of VS2010 (Professional) on the build server. In this way, I knew everything I needed would be on the machine (one way or another) and that this would be consistent with developer machines. VS2010 is correctly installed on the CI server, and the devenv task works as expected I now have a wrapper MSBuild script that does some extended version processing and then builds the .sln for the application via an MSBuild task. This wrapper script is run via CCNet's MSBuild task and fails with the above mentioned errors My Assumptions This seems to be a missing/wrong configuration of include paths to standard header resources of the MFC persuasion I should be able to coerce the MSBuild environment to consider the relevant resource files from my VS2010 install and have this approach work. But how do I do that? Am I setting Environment variables? Registry settings? I can see how one can inject additional directories in some cases, but this seems to need a more systemic configuration at the compiler defaults level.

In a certain case the recordset will return a failed (i.e. negative) HRESULT, with the message: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal i know what this error message means, know why it happened, and i how to fix it. But i know these things because i read the message, which fortunately was in a language i understand. Now i would like to handle this exception specially. The COM object threw an HRESULT of 0x800A0CC1 In an ideal world Microsoft would have documented what errors can be returned when i try to access: records.Fields.Items( index ) with an invalid index. But they do not; they most they say is that an error can occur, i.e.: If Item cannot find an object in the collection corresponding to the Index argument, an error occurs. Given that the returned error code is not documented, is it correct to handle a specific return code of `0x800A0CC1' when i'm trying to trap the exception: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal ? Since Microsoft didn't document the error code, they technically change it in the future.

My first instinct is to scroll with the mouse, but all that happens is old bash commands start showing up (like when I press the up arrow). Is there a way to re-map the mouse wheel to: Go into scrollback mode, or If already in scrollback mode, start moving up in the scrollback window

I get all sort of errors concerning pkg-congfig, libnih, and dbus. I am working on a node.ja application and this is a pain to start and stop all the time, so I want to create a deamon for this which makes it easy to start and stop.

• Impossible to create/format install window 7 on unpartioned HD

  Hi guys i am getting nut reinstalling windows 7 on one of those Acer aspire all-in-one... The original OS(windows professional x64) was not starting, after the initial screen the bios was prompted. So step 1: i tried to access the system partition and reinstall everything but could not get at the point step 2: i set the bios to native ide and i tried to insert my original copy of windows professional and do a clean installation, but it does not allow me to format/create other partion form the installation mask step 3: my BAD, i tried to install ubuntu and i clean the whole hard drive, i was getting an error at some point during installation so i decided to get back to windows step 4: Windows 7 again, at the disk screen of the windows installation i entered into the prompt and played around with DISKPART... -i listed the disk and the HD was disk 0. -i selected disk 0. -i CLEAN disk 0 successfully. -i tried to create a CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY but gave an error cache corrupt and disk not up-to-date (after i try to create a partiton in disk 0 it disappear when i try LIST DISK and i have to restart before he can list DISK 0 again, RESCAN did not worked). -tried CLEAN ALL(2 hours) and succeeded. -try again to create primary partition and failed, same errors -try to install my old copy of windows xP pro and it seems to work, it create a partition, format(only quick worked, slow mode was at 0% after 1 hour so i stop), it start installing and around 90% installation said it could not copy a file and he stop -back on windows 7 again, it says that the hard drive has 490+gb unpartitioned but won't create a partition and format. -i tried again DISKPART as i though i messed up with the MBR when i installed ubuntu, so i did all of the instruction below http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 the errors were: on bootsect: the systne partiton was not found, Data error cyclic redundancy check on bootrec /FixMbr: A device attached to the system is not functioning but did not worked, and still can not partiton/format/install on a blank HD i tried some bootable clean disk tool and start infinite loop on the same errors the bios setting are: sata: native ide. if i put AHCL(or something like that does not load the HD and the DVD). quick start/quite start: disabled. Are there any other option or tools i can try before i try change the HD(That is my last option)? Thanks to everyone.

• Restart mysql keeping the data

  Hi all, I'm quite new using mysql, so let me know if I'm missing something. I took some holidays, and when I got back to work and I tried to log in phpmyadmin I got a ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2). I never had this problem, so I was browsing to look for a solution. I tried some things, and I'm afraid I touched too much. I couldn't solve the problem, and the I realized that I had some actualizations to be done, and I thought that they may be helpful for mysql. Then I also realized that when I was doing this actualizations first day, they stopped because I had a lack of space, so I restarted then. Then,when the system was configuring mysql, it didn't advance. I waited for a long time and then I just stopped it and restarted the computer. After it, I just tried to uninstall mysql with sudo apt-get remove mysql-server-5.1, and install it again, but it didn't work. Now I have 2 questions: What do you think it is happening? Should I remove mysql completely? What should I do? I'm afraid of losing my databases, is there anyway to recover the data?   I got a last time (and urgent) requeriment of an "event" that needs to be scheduled the same day of every month. Say of you set the start date on the 1st May you should get the next events on the 1st of Jun, 1 Jul etc. The problem comes with a start date on the 31st (the next ones could be 30 or 28 depending on the month) Considering that there are months with different numbers of days (28,30,31) depending on the month itself and the year... what would ba an easy way to setup this? Consider the following (and flawed) nextmonth function: $events = array() function nextmonth($date) { return $date+(60*60*24*30); } $curr = $start; while($curr < $end) { $events[ = $curr; $curr = nextmonth($curr); } Edited to add: The problem for me is, simply enought, is to solve what the number of days of any given month is and thus get the next corresponding date..

  I'm getting some odd response back from shopify ajaxapi for jsonp. If you cURL a Shopify ajax api location http://storename.domain.com/cart.json?callback=handler you will get a jsonp response. But something is breaking the same request in browsers. It appears to be related to compression? Here are some responses from each browser when attempting to call the jsonp as documented. Firefox: The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
