  • Another IKImageView Question

    I'm trying to use the select and copy feature of the IKImageView. If all you want to do is have an app with an image, select a portion and copy it to the clipboard, it's easy. You set the copy menu pick to the first responder's copy:(id) method and magically everything works. However, if you want something more complicated, like you want to copy as part of some other operation, I can't seem to find the method to do this. IKImageView doesn't seem to have a copy method, it doesn't seem to have a method that will even tell you the selected rectangle! I have gone through Hillegass' book, so I understand how the clipboard works, just not how to get the portion of the image out of the view... Now, I'm starting to think that I made a mistake in basing my project on IKImageView, but it's what Preview is built on (or so I've read), so I figured it had to be stable... and anyway, now it's too late, I'm too deep in this to start over... So, other than not using IKImageView, any suggestions on how to copy the select region to the clipboard manually?

  • Behavior difference between UIView.subviews and [NSView subviews]

    I have a piece of code in an iPhone app, which removes all subviews from a UIView subclass. It looks like this: NSArray* subViews = self.subviews; for( UIView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } This works fine. In fact, I never really gave it much thought until I tried nearly the same thing in a Mac OS X app (from an NSView subclass): NSArray* subViews = [self subviews]; for( NSView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } That totally doesn’t work. Specifically, at runtime, I get this: *** Collection <NSCFArray: 0x1005208a0> was mutated while being enumerated. I ended up doing it like so: NSArray* subViews = [[self subviews] copy]; for( NSView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } [subViews release]; That's fine. What’s bugging me, though, is why does it work on the iPhone? subviews is a copy property: @property(nonatomic,readonly,copy) NSArray *subviews; My first thought was, maybe @synthesize’d getters return a copy when the copy attribute is specified. The doc is clear on the semantics of copy for setters, but doesn’t appear to say either way for getters (or at least, it’s not apparent to me). And actually, doing a few tests of my own, this clearly does not seem to be the case. Which is good, I think returning a copy would be problematic, for a few reasons. So the question is: how does the above code work on the iPhone? NSView is clearly returning a pointer to the actual array of subviews, and perhaps UIView isn’t. Perhaps it’s simply an implementation detail of UIView, and I shouldn’t get worked up about it. Can anyone offer any insight?

    I am trying to install fast-cgi for nginx on an EC2 instance. I followed the steps explained here, but that is meant for Debian and does not work out of the box for a red-hat based system. If I run service php-fcgi start & and then ps aux, I see the php-cgi process running bound to the socket. I see the start command stop only when I execute service php-fcgi stop. How do I solve this blocking issue? I have tried adding an & at the end of the line spawning the daemon. But other scripts do not seem to be doing this. This is the most complicated script I am attempting to modify yet :-( How do I get the script to display the green [ OK ]? I checked scripts like httpd and saw that all they were doing was something as shown below. But I never see a green [ OK ] when I execute php-fcgi. I also discovered that putting echo_success with functions sourced displays the green [ OK ] but I do not see any other scripts in the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ executing echo_success or echo_failure.   • Android edtftpj/PRo SFTP heap worker problem

    Hi I am using edtftpj-pro3.1 trial copy in my android app to make SFTP connection with the server. After few connections with the server with 5-6 file transfers, my app is crashing with following exception. Is it causing the problem or what could be the problem??   • "There were build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?" not showing

    Hi, Not a massive problem but something that has been bugging the life out of me... One of my colleagues was trying out some code on my machine and got the "There were build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?" pop-up when the build failed on Visual Studio. He clicked on the "don't show this again" checkbox and closed the dialogue. My problem is that I can't get the dialogue to show up again. I found these instructions online: "Select Tools, Options, Projects and Solutions, Build and Run. Then set the option "On run, when build or deployment errors occur" to Prompt to Launch." but that doesn't work. Resetting the IDE settings to default don't make any difference either. Is there any way to get this dialogue back or has it gone forever? Thanks, K

  • How do you run your unit tests? Compiler flags? Static libraries?

    I'm just getting started with TDD and am curious as to what approaches others take to run their tests. For reference, I am using the google testing framework, but I believe the question is applicable to most other testing frameworks and to languages other than C/C++. My general approach so far has been to do either one of three things: Write the majority of the application in a static library, then create two executables. One executable is the application itself, while the other is the test runner with all of the tests. Both link to the static library. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and enable or disable the testing code using compiler flags. This is probably the best approach I've used so far, but clutters up the code a bit. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and, given certain command-line switches either run the application itself or run the tests embedded in the application. None of these solutions are particularly elegant... How do you do it?

  • Turn A Flash Drive Into a Portable Web Server

    Portable applications are very useful for getting work done on the go, but how about portable servers?  Here’s how you can turn your flash drive into a portable web server. Getting Started To put a full web server on our flash drive, we’re going to use XAMPP Lite.  This lightweight, preconfigured server includes recent versions of Apache, MySQL, and PHP so you can run most websites and webapps directly from it.  You could use the full XAMPP, which includes more features such as a FileZilla FTP server and OpenSSL, but for most purposes, the light version is plenty for a portable server. Download the latest version of XAMPP Lite (link below).  In this tutorial, we used the self-extracting EXE version; you could choose the ZIP file and extract the files yourself, but we found it easier to use the executable. Run the installer, and click Browse choose where to install your server. Select your flash drive, or a folder in it, and click Ok.  Make sure your flash drive has at least 250MB of available storage space.  XAMPP will create an xampplite folder and store all the files in it during the installation.   Click Install, and all of the files will be extracted to your flash drive.  This may take a few moments depending on your flash drive’s speed. When the extraction process is finished, a Command Prompt window will open to finish the installation.  The first prompt will ask if you want to add shortcuts to the start menu and desktop; enter “n” since we don’t want to create start menu links to our portable server. Now enter “y” to configure XAMPP’s directories automatically. Finally, enter “y” to make XAMPP fully portable.  It will set up the servers to run without specific drive letters so your server will run from any computer. XAMPP will finalize your changes; press Enter when everything is completed. Setup will automatically launch the command line version of XAMPP.  On first run, confirm that your time zone is correct. And that’s it!  You can now run XAMPP’s control panel by entering 1, or you can exit and run XAMPP from any other computer with your flash drive. To complete your portable webserver kit, you may want to install Portable Firefox or Iron Browser on your flash drive so you always have your favorite browser ready to use. Running your portable server Using your portable server is very simple.  Open the xampplite folder on your flash drive and launch xampp-control.exe. Click Start beside Apache and MySql to get your webserver running. Please note: Do not check the Svc box, as this will run the server as a Windows service.  To keep XAMPP portable, you do not want it running as a service! Windows Firewall may prompt you that it blocked the server; click Allow access to let your server run. Once they’re running, you can click Admin to open the default XAMPP admin page running from your local webserver.  Or, you can view it by browsing to http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/ in your browser. If everything is working correctly, you should see this page in your browser.  Choose your default language… And then you’ll see the default XAMPP admin page.   Click the Status link on the left sidebar to make sure everything is running correctly. If you click the Admin button for MySql in the XAMPP Control Panel, it will open phpMyAdmin in your default browser.  Alternately, you can open the MySql admin page by entering http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ or http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin/ in your favorite browser. Now you can add your own webpages to your webserver.  Save all of your web files in the \xampplight\htdocs\ folder on your flash drive. Install WordPress in your portable server Since XAMPP Lite includes MySql and PHP, you can even run webapps such as WordPress, the popular CMS and blogging platform.  Download WordPress (link below), and extract the files to the \xampplite\htdocs folder on your flash drive. Now all of the WordPress files are stored in \xampplite\htdocs\wordpress on your flash drive. We still need to setup WordPress on our portable server.  Open your MySql admin page http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ to create a new database for WordPress.  Enter a name for your database in the “Create new database” box, and click Create. Click the Privileges tab on the top, and the select “Add a new User”.   Enter a username and password for the database, and then click the Go button on the bottom of the page. Using WordPress Now, in your browser, enter http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php.  Click Create a Configuration File to continue. Make sure you have your Database name, username, and password we created previously, and click “Let’s Go!” Enter your WordPress database name, username, and password, leave the other two entries as default, and click Submit. You should now have the database all ready to go.  Click “Run the install” to finish installing WordPress. Enter a title, username, and password for your test blog, as well as your email address, and then click “Install WordPress”. You now have a portable install of WordPress.  Click “Log In” to  access your WordPress admin page. Enter your username and password, and click Log In. Here you can add pages, posts, themes, extensions, and anything else just like you would on a normal WordPress site.  This is a great way to experiment with WordPress without messing up your real website. You can view your portable WordPress site by entering http://localhost/wordpress/ in your address bar. Closing your server When you’re done running your test server, click the Stop button on each of the services and then click the Exit button in the XAMPP control panel.  If you press the exit button on the top of the window, it will just minimize the control panel to the tray.   Alternately, you can shutdown your server by running xampp_stop.exe from your xampplite folder.   • How do I host node.js apps with pm2 without running them as root?

    I have setup pm2 to run a node.js application, and I can successfully start it and it will resurrect upon reboot. However, the pm2 daemon is ran as root, which makes me think that all my node-scripts also runs as root? Even though I added them as a regular user in the system.   • Dlink DWA-556 Access point fails to start on 2.6.35-25 while 2.6.35-24 works. How can I do this with >2.6.35-24?

    I am running Ubuntu server 11.04. I have created an Upstart user job as described here. I have the following file at my /home/myuser/.init/sensors.conf: start on started mysql stop on stopping mysql chdir /home/myuser/mydir/project exec /home/myuser/mydir/env/bin/python /home/myuser/mydir/project/manage.py sensors respawn respawn limit 10 90 As myuser I can start, stop, and reload the job fine- it works perfectly: $ start sensors sensors start/running, process 1332 $ stop sensors sensors stop/waiting The problem is that the job is not starting automatically at boot when mysql starts. After a fresh boot, mysql is running but my sensors job is not. What's strange, is that although the job doesn't begin on bootup, if I use sudo to restart mysql it does indeed start my job. The following commands are run as myuser from a fresh startup: $ status sensors sensors stop/waiting $ sudo restart mysql mysql start/running, process 1209 $ status sensors sensors start/running, process 1229 The documentation for Upstart user jobs is pretty limited. What is the correct technique to have a user job start automatically on startup of the system? I know I can just throw something in rc.local to start it, or I could move my sensors.conf to /etc/init but I'm curious if there is a way to do it using just Upstart.

    What I'm trying to do is to take a movie (in an Matroska container), convert all audio tracks to AC3 and don't touch anything else.   • Crond offset five minute schedule

    Is it possible to offset a cron script set to run every 5 minutes? I have two scripts, script 1 collects some data from one database and inserts it into another, script 2 pulls out this data and a lot of other data and creates some pretty reports from it. Both scripts need to run every 5 minutes. I want to offset script 2 by one minute so that it can create a report from the new data. E.G. I want script one to run at :00, :05, :10, :15 [...] and script two to run at :01, :06, :11, :16 [...] every hour. The scripts are not dependent on each other, and script 2 must run regardless of whether script one was successful or not. But it would be useful if the reports could have hte latest data. Is this possible with cron? Post; I have thought about using both commands in a shell script so they run immediately after each other but this wouldn't work, sometimes script 1 can get hung up on waiting for external APIs etc. so might take up to 15 mins to run, but script 2 must run every 5 minutes so doing it this way would stop/delay the execution of script 2. If I could set this in Cron it would mean script 2 would run regardless of what script 1 was doing

I also use fio (famous I/O benchmark tool) and noticed the same issue, so it's not from the application. Does anybody know what is going on ? Any comments or advices are appreciated. Thanks

  • Is it possible to use ffmpeg to trim off X seconds from the beginning of a video with an unspecified length?

    I need to trim the just the first 1 or 2 seconds off of a series of FLV recordings of varying, unspecified lengths. I've found plenty of resources for extracting a specified duration from a video (e.g. 30 second clips), but none for continuing to the end of a video. Both of these attempts just yield a copied version of the video, sans desired trimming: ffmpeg -ss 2 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -i input.flv output.flv ffmpeg -ss 2 -t 120 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -i input.flv output.flv The thought on the second one was: perhaps if I specified a length beyond what was possible, it'd just go to the end. No dice. I know it's not an issue with codecs or using seconds instead of timecode since the following worked a charm: ffmpeg -ss 2 -t 5 -vcodec copy -acodec copy -i input.flv output.flv Any other ideas? I'm open to using other (Windows-based) command line tools, however am strongly favoring ffmpeg since I'm already using it for thumbnail creation and am familiar with it. If it helps, my videos will all be under 2 minutes.

The pathfinding is working fine, except that when it has a lot of node to search in, there is a lag period of one or two seconds, it happens mainly when there is no path to the target destination, since it that situation there is more nodes to explore. If so, I add the end node and each parent until I reach the start. If not, I add the nearestToTarget and each parent until I reach the start. I added a condition before calling FindPath so that only one unit can call a find path each frame (60 frame per second), but it makes no difference. I thought maybe I could solve this by allowing the find path to run in background while the game continues to run correctly, even if it takes a few frame (it is currently sequential sonce it is called in the update() of the unit if there's a target location but no path), but I don't really know how... I also though about sorting my opened nodes list by cost so I don't have to loop them, but I don't know if that would have an effect on the performance... Would there be other solutions? P.S. In the code, when I get the Move Cost, I check if the unit has to turn to perform the move, and the terrain type, nothing hard to do.

  • nginx reverse proxy cannot access apache virtual hosts

    I am setting up nginx as a reverse proxy. The server runs on directadmin and lamp stack. I have nginx running on port 81. I can access all my sites (including virtual ips) on the port 81. However when I forward the traffic from port 80 to 81, the virtual ips have a message saying "Apache is running normally". Server IPs are fine, and I can still access virtual IP's on 81.     I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error.
