  • split a database web application - good idea or bad idea?

    Is it a bad idea to split up a application and the database? Application1 uses database1 on ServerX Application2 uses database2 on ServerY Both application communicates over web service API, they are apart of the same application, one application is used to manage user's profile/personal data, while the other application is used to manages user's financial data. Or should just put them together and just use 1 database on the same server?

    Is there an application or API for using/accessing Visual SourceSafe (6.0) under Mac OS X? I'm currently using VSS Connect under Parallels for working with our company's ASP.NET site/s. I currently have my Windows drive shared and try to use TextMate on the Mac side to actually edit files. It would be nice to have the ability to check files in/out outside of my virtual machine though.

  • How can I make kml data look like google maps?

    I have a program that generates a .shp file, and exports this as a kml file. I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth, or in the google earth api. Is there a style guide or method that I should be using? Any thoughts appreciated - I wasn't sure how to structure this question. Thank you.

    Hi. Evaluating Tinymce. I've looked at the docs/source/api, and have a question that I thought I'd pose to the stackoverflow group. Has anyone implemented Tinymce, who can tell me it it's possible to setup Tinymce to restrict a user, allowing the user to only "view" a text file, and be able to add additional buttons to the save/cancel row of buttons.. After some user accounts have been deleted in AD we're faced a lot of issues while importing the organisation to another server stating that there are issues with the user mapping.     Hi! Flash/Actionscript 3 lack the possibility to "draw" text to a displayobject graphics - a textfield has to be created, added and set. This is rather clumsy and time consuming. In the wait for simple and stable alternatives (for example http://lab.polygonal.de/2009/12/15/font-rendering-with-the-fp10-drawing-api/), is there a class or library for simply plotting text strings using graphical primitives (lines), something like the text is "drawn" on plotted technical drawings?

    Is there any crossplatform way (Windows, Linux, MacOSX) to change screen resolution? Neither Java nor .Net-Mono can do it. Only through native API invocation. It's very strange situation: there are clear (managed) methods to obtain screen resolution, but method for setting is absent. Is this feature very dangerous or complicated? Does any other crossplatform system (Parrot, RealBasic etc.) do this?

  • Possible to use Python with Intel's Atom Developer SDK (C/C++)?

    So I've made a game in Python and PyGame. Now I'm interested in submitting the game to Intel's March Developer Challenge. However, the developer challenge requires use of Intel's Atom Developer SDK (http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/sdk), which only has API's for C and C++. I'm new to Python and PyGame, and have no experience in C or C++. My question is, would it be possible to somehow implement Intel's Atom SDK through/with/from a Python application (as the first link above suggests)? I've read up a little bit on embedding/extending Python into/with C, but I'm not entirely sure what to embed or where. I mean, I know I can do things like this in C: #include <Python.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Py_Initialize(); PyRun_SimpleString("from time import time,ctime\n" "print 'Today is',ctime(time())\n"); Py_Finalize(); return 0; } But what do I do about all my dependencies on Python and Pygame, for people that don't have those installed on their machines? Normally Py2Exe takes care of compacting the required dependencies (I've managed to package my game into an exe/zip), but how do I take care of that stuff in the context of embedding within C? Can I somehow work with py2exe on this, or do I need to do something entirely different for embedding within C? It seems like it would be a lot easier to go the route of extending Python with the C validation code, rather than trying to embed my whole game within C, but I think that's not an option, "because the library provided is currently only available as a Visual Studio 2008 '.lib'", meaning the application has to be compiled with Visual Studio...? Any help, thoughts, or ideas are much appreciated!
