Hi there!
Please help me with documentation to write specific application for Facebook.
Need to know, what language to choose? is specific facebook API? is documentation for API? is site with samples catalogue? need to know all related info. Some words about app, it would be app, which compare users interests.
Thanks in advance.
I'm a junior VB.net developer with little application design knowledge. I've been reading a lot of material online regarding different design patterns, frameworks, and methodologies. It's become a bit confusing for me.
Right now I'm trying to decide on what language would be best suited to convert an existing VB6 application (with SQL server backend.) I need to update the UI and add more user functionality and reporting capabilities. Initially I was thinking of using WPF and attempting the MVVM model for this big project. Reports would be generated from SSRS.
A peer suggested using ASP.net and I don't have enough experience to determine what would be better. The senior programmers here are stuck on using VB6 and don't have any input on what to use. They are encouraging me to use the latest technologies.
This application would be for ~20 users in a central location. Ideally I would stick to a Microsoft .net language. Current interface is similar to a datagrid table where the user would click in to see the detail of each record. They would need to have multiple records open at any given time.
I look forward to all the advice I can get.

What is your audience? Internal clients within an intranet
How complex are the interactions you expect to implement? not very... displaying data from SQL server to UI. Allow user updates to said data. Typically just one user modifying a record.
Do you require near real-time data updates? no
How often do you expect to update the application after the first release? twice/year
Do you expect a well-defined set of client platforms? Yes, windows xp environment, potentially upgrading to Win7. Currently in IE.6 moving to IE7 or 8 within a couple of months.
Do users need access from anywhere? No, just from their PC.
Hi,
I have an HTML page, and I would like to import data from a database. Will it be possible to do it without using a programing language such as Java, .NET, PHP etc?
thanks
I have read about partial methods in the latest C# language specification, so I understand the principles, but I'm wondering how people are actually using them. Is there a particular design pattern that benefits from partial methods?
There are plenty of questions on stackoverflow from people who have attempted to create an array of generics like so:
ArrayList<Foo>[] poo = new ArrayList<Foo>[5];
And the answer of course is that the Java specification doesn't allow you to declare an array of generics.
My question however is why ? What is the technical reason underlying this restriction in the java language or java vm? It's a technical curiosity I've always wondered about.
I have a client who wants to transition off their old environment into .NET.
The client has a good grounding in basic OO concepts (their existing development environment supports this) and are expert developers, but need a quick "up to speed" introduction to the .NET framework (C# as the chosen language) for building Line of Business applications (they're keen on Silverlight).
Any recommendations?
Hello,
I've been using Spring with Java and I've seen that there is a version called Spring.NET. I wonder if there is any significant difference between them (apart from that one is for Java and the other is for .NET). Is it just a "language translation" of the framework or are they different project with just a similar purpose?
Thanks.
I want to design a CPU and possibly memory and other hardware. I could do this with a hardware description language. Once I do this is it possible for me to send my designs to a manufacturer who will realize the design in hardware and send back to me the CPU(s) ? Can it be done at a reasonable cost?
I want to design and make my own computer system and actually have it realized in hardware.
As someone who is interested in learning more about the security side of technology, I ask you all the following questions:
How is it that crackers crack software? What techniques are used to do so? I would imagine that the cracking methods depend upon the language the software is written in, right? Aside from using something like cloud-based security for SaaS ((software as a service) which isn't always an option), what choices does one have to prevent their software from being compromised?
I am trying to create a similar way to Cpanel password protect directory, where a pop up comes out asking the user for a username and a password, but Cpanel way is amazing but my client doesn't know anything on how to do that, so i wanted to create a pop up msgbox informing the visitor to enter a user name and a password, and i totaly confused on how to create it, and which programming language support similar to CPanel
Hello,
I have, let's say, a root website with mysql db on a remote server.
I want to connect to that particular database (to make queries), from many other little websites (with lower priviledges).
Can this be done?
Language: jsp,java,php
Thank you
I am quite impressed by the workflow I follow when developing Android applications: Define a layout in an xml file and then write all the code in a code-behind style. Is there an equivalent style for the web? I mean, with a predefined list of widgets that can be defined using a markup language and then control them using code?
I have come across Google's Web Toolkit that does something like this but I'd like to hear what other's think as well.
Hi,
Does anyone know a good way to debug errors in the Visual Studio Designer?
In our project we have tons of UserControls and many complex forms.
For the complex ones, the Designer often throws various exceptions which
doesn't help much and was wondering if there's some nice way to figure out
what has gone wrong.
The language is C# and we're using Visual Studio 2005.
Thanks,
Daisuke
REPL's are very useful for live debugging and experimentation. Most dynamic languages such as Ruby, Python, etc come with one built-in, however it is more difficult to build one for a statically-typed language such as C++.
Despite the technical challenges, are there any REPL's available for C++?
I imagine that there are different combination, just looking for an affirmation. Or, are we developers really that english-centric?
If I were in japan, using a word processor on some computer, would ctrl-s save?
Are there keyboards where ctrl-s doesn't even exist (non-english keyboards)? Most of what I've seen usually has latin + [insert language here] characters, usually overridden on the normal qwerty keyboard.
I want to create a simple script that tags the latest revision to the tags folder, for example: for Trunk directory head revision 114, it will create a tag of this directory to the Tags directory which goes by the name "r114".
I don't really care of what scripting language it'll use (as long as it runs on windows).
I tried creating such script using SVN CLI tool, but it failed connecting to a SSL repository.
How can I achieve that?
I have C# background. Very newbie to low level language like C.
In C#, memory layout by compiler by default, and I have to specify some special attribute to override this behavior for exact layout.
As I know, C does not re-align by default. But I heard there's a little re-aligning behavior which very hard to find.
Can I know about C's memory layout behavior? (what should be re-aligned and not)
Hi
I am interested by converting some code from C++ to C (mostly because i need to use the library with/from other C program and other language) . C is a better gateway for that
I am interested to replicate few C++ concept like inheritance for inst .
Does anyone know good references or has already work on some similar issues. For inst how to deal with inheritance , adding new members variable/ methods to child class , ...
Thx for your help
I had limited success myself. I was able to hype a few persons about Scala.
But in fact none of them made a meaningful effort to try to switch (usually from Java).
I would like to read both success and failure stories here.
Both long tries and short ones.
My goal is to find ways of presenting Scala to another person, friend, co-worker (not an audience) that will make them want to use this great language.
Hi,
Is it possible for kids with only HTML/CSS programming experience to do game programming in SilverLight 4.0?
They are using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express edition.
Do they have to learn c# or any other language since they are just starting out?
Thanks
I have seen this sample written in Ruby code, how i can simulate it in C language?
Open3.popen3(command) do |stdin, stdout, stderr|
@stop_stdin = stdin
while !stdout.eof do
output = stdout.read(1024 * 100)
list_pipes.each do |out|
out.print output
end
end
end
I would like code like this:
(define-struct thing (a b c))
(define th (make-thing 1 2 3))
to print something like this:
(make-thing 1 2 3)
when I type "th" into either the DrScheme or MzScheme repl. I am using the language "pretty big" in DrScheme with output style set to "constructor". This is what I get in DrScheme:
(make-thing ...)
(i literally get the three dots)
In MzScheme:
#<thing>
For a college project i'm thinking of implementing the business layer in Erlang and then accessing it via multiple front-ends using REST. I would like to avail of OTP features like distributed applications, etc.
My question is how do I expose gen_server calls/casts to other applications? Obviously I could make RPC calls via language specific "bridges" like OTP.net or JInterface, but I want a consistent way to access it like REST.
Hi,
I have a question about how to store the assembly language in memory, when I compile the C-code in assembly, and run by "step", I can see the address of each instruction, but is there a way to change the start address of the code in the memory?
Second question is, can I break the assembly code into two?
I am curious about how the machine store the assembly code.
BTW, I am working on a MACBOOK Pro, duo core.
Thank you.
