• Hyper-V Manager right clicking on remote VM causes MMC error

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Server with SP1 that I log into and use to manage virtual machines running on multiple HyperV servers on our domain. Sometimes when I right click on a remote VM the HyperV Manager will crash and display the following error message: If I use the Actions menu on the lower right it works just fine, but for some reason right clicking cause MMC to stop working. Is there any way to fix this issue? Here are the full details of the error message. • iPhone: "there was a problem downloading this podcast"

  I have several podcasts which work perfectly fine in iTunes, but when I attempt to download additional episodes on the iPhone I get the message "there was a problem downloading this podcast" once the download completes. All I can find points to my iPhone not having enough disk space. The settings tells me I have 1GB available. I've also tried deleting some content and receive the same message. Originally, I thought this might be due to the RSS feed indicating a different file size than the media file, but I manually verified its correct. A podcast which I can always reproduce this problem has the following feed: http://www.podquiz.com/rss.php I can reproduce the problem on both WiFi and 3G.

• How to add a disclaimer to forwarded messages to outside domains in Exchange 2013?

  I would like to implement some kind of filter to add a disclaimer message within emails forwarded to outside domains. Today we have some users that setup filters to forward messages to external mail servers, as example @gmail addresses. So this kind of forward should be marked with the disclaimer message. Not the normal fwd messages. We have a Postfix mailfiltering gateway too, if it's simpler to implement this on the mail filter, it could be a viable option. What would be the best approach to handle this issue? Thanks,

• Automated git push attempt does not work - authentication issue

  I'm trying to automate a very periodic git add/commit/push cycle using a shell script and cron under OS X 10.8.5. The script is as basic as one would expect it to be: cd /my/directory git add . git commit -m "a commit message with the date" git push -u origin master I've tried running it both as root as well as a non-root user. When I do this manually, I get a dialog box from OS X requesting that I authenticate the operation. Running the script (either using cron or just using sh) ends up sending a message (via mail) to whichever user's cron executed the script saying that it was unable to write a file in the .git directory because of a permissions issue (which is most likely manual execution requires authentication). Is there any way to circumvent this issue, or give the script permission to perform this operation without having me intervene each time?

• Flash Player Automatic Updater on Windows Startup

  Hi all, Adobe Flash Player is set to automatically check for updates on Windows startup. I've always wondered where exactly it is set to do this. Checking the running services, as well as msconfig does not yield its location. The message in question looks like this: http://www.technipages.com/disable-an-update-to-your-adobe-flash-player-is-available-message-forever.html I know how to disable it via Adobe's web site (instructions are included in link above), but I'm interested in knowing where exactly in Windows is this set to perform this action? I have done some research on this, and people keep saying to check the following registry locations: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce or the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run However, I have checked those locations, and I still cannot locate where this updater is stored. I'm pretty sure that malware also uses this technique to automatically load upon startup, and since it's not in the typical location(s) that a user would look, it's well hidden.   Network is not working anymore - Ubuntu 12.04 Hello, I have a problem with my network connection. I have been using the same laptop with Ubuntu and the same connection for more than a year, and suddenly yesterday the connection stopped working (both wireless and wired). I've tested with another computer and the connection is fine (both wireless and wired). I've been reading similar posts but I haven't found a solution yet. Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information (such as the date the account was created) and subject line, rather than the content of emails themselves.” [source] I don't know much about how internet works, but as long the chines gov has access to the chines internet providers servers, why do they need to hack gmail accounts? I assume that i don't understand how submitting/writing a message(from user to gmail servers) works, in order to be sent later to the other email address. Who can tell me how submitting a message to a web form works?

• Steam freezes at login screen

  I have just installed Steam on Xubuntu, and after it finished installing it went to the login screen, but the screen is frozen, and I cannot press the buttons. • Log php errors in ubuntu

  I followed the setup here: Where is the PHP error log When I look into /var/log/php_errors.log, I could see some PHP errors. PHP Warning: file_get_contents(/var/www/...): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in ... But what I'm trying to see is the error when I removed a semicolon from a statement. That error above has no relation to file from where I removed the semicolon so we can just ignore that. When I access the page with the removed semicolon, I get The website encountered an error while retrieving https://myapp/download/decode/testfile. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request. But no logs in /var/log/php_errors.log. How do I see the error that usually says which line and which file the process failed? The real reason for trying to see the error is because I have a very huge loop, that throws the HTTP 500 error and I can't see the exact error. I'm just simulation with a removed semicolon to test things out. Other settings: error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED display_errors = On On Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Update Ok, I managed to get the error message to display. Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in ... However, it's still not logged. It wasn't displaying previously because Cakephp's debug level was at 0. Setting it to 2 displays the message, but no logs.

• How to make Xbox joypad work with Bastion?

  I have an XBox joypad: Bus 005 Device 004: ID 045e:0289 Microsoft Corp. Xbox Controller S When I start Bastion from the terminal the following is output: Number of joysticks: 1 Number of buttons for joystick: 0 - 10 Number of axes for joystick: 0 - 6 Number of PovHats for joystick: 0 - 1 When I load up the game it displays a message "press any key" and at this point, if I press a button on the joypad it advances to the main menu. However, the up/down/left/right controls do not work and the button will not operate the menu. When I enter the control configuration, the joypad section is disabled and displays a message "joypad not detected." If I enter the control customization and try to reconfigure one of the controls, noises can be heard when pressing joypad buttons, but the input is otherwise ignored. Further information which may or may not be relevant: My controller is an original Xbox controller, not a 360 controller. XNA games on Windows apparently only work with Xbox360 controllers because they use xinput rather than direct input, see eg here. My controller works (almost) properly with MonoGame trunk samples, but Bastion uses a modified MonoGame and crashes when run against trunk, so I can't add debugging to see where the problem is. Bug can also be reproduced with a Xbox 360 wired controller.

• Stuck with Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 errors

  A ways back I installed Microsoft Visual Studio beta 2. Today I installed Visual Studio 2010 from Dreamspark (the one with the activation key baked in). This resulted in an install with no place to put an activation key (I don't have one anyways), but I still get the following error when I try to start it: Your Microsoft Visual Studio evaluation period has expired. You will need to upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio to the latest release. This didn't go away with a complete uninstall and reinstall, and I have no idea how to fix it. A quick internet search reveals that this is the error message from Beta 2 after the date at which the RTM version went live. I have a feeling that the message is due to some hanging registry entries (I went through the manual uninstall instructions here). Does anyone know how to find and eliminate all vestiges of Beta 2 or something?

  Every now and then when users SSH from their OS X (Snow Leopard) workstation to one of our Linux hosts they receive the message: /usr/bin/xauth: ~/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored Of course, their X forwarded applications will not work at this point. However, if they log out and log right back in again they do not get the message and everything works as expected. On their Mac they get their home directory via AFP. The Linux machines get it via NFS. Any ideas on what could be going on here?

• Stop external USB keyboard repeating key presses on Vista.

  We have an infuriating problem with a (Vista/Dell) laptop. When an external (Logitech) USB keyboard is attached to it, it regularly starts repeating key presses. When the user recently deleted an Outlook message, it deleted them all! When typing a message, suddenly it will start repeating the last keypress about 30 times (it varies). It's not a mechanical issue. We've switched the keyboard out four times. Even tried a brand new one one. Every time it's the same. Also, the keyboard works fine on other machines. The problem doesn't arise when the laptop's own keyboard is used - even if the external USB keyboard is still attached. I'm stumped? Any ideas. Not using an external keyboard isn't an option due to our health and safety policy (...don't ask...).

• off-the-shelf HDD in Dell Optiplex 755 - Invalid Replacement - Press F1 when rebooting

  I recently put an SSD into my work Optiplex 755. Since then, every time the system boots or reboots, I get prompted to hit F1 to continue with a message like HDD replacement is not valid. The system works just fine. What I am gathering from Dell's website is that I left the original drive internally as a data drive. And apparently the Optiplex does not support 2 drives in the configuration we purchased originally and complains. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this message? some suggested the MEBx or whatever from Intel and to turn it off, but I did not succeed earlier. It's not a big deal 80% of the time, but I regularly work from home and occasionally need to fire a reboot and well, you don't get the BIOS screen remotely :) Regards, Eric.

• Update to 13.10: blank screen and repeated suspend on wake from suspend

  After updating from 13.04 to 13.10, intermittently when awaking from suspend, my screen will blink to black screen a few times, offer a login screen, and then go back to suspend unexpectedly. This will repeat each time I subsequently awake it from suspend. Only a restart will escape the suspend loop. This issue arose in tandem with the already raised issue regarding networking not restarting on wake from suspend, though appears to be distinct from that issue.

• Google earth will not reinstall

  I was trying to perform the the fix found at this link http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/01/how-to-make-google-earth-look-native-in-ubuntu It requires you to delete certain files from the /opt/google/earth/free folder and then add some new ones that you download. I deleted the files but the links to download the new ones were unusable. I was using gksudo nautilus so trash was disabled meaning I could not restore the files I had deleted. I the tried to go to the Google Earth website and reinstall it. I downloaded the .deb but when I tried to install it it gav me an error message saying "cannot install ia32-libs" I tried installing this via terminal and it gave me an error message saying chad@chad-Lenovo-G570:~$ sudo apt-get install ia32-libs [sudo] password for chad: Reading package lists...   Background I'm on a new VMWare install consisting of: 1 vCenter Server (containing inventory service, SSO, vCenter server, and web client server) 2 ESX Servers configured in a HA group Problem When a I view the summary for any one of my servers, I receive a notice: "" This is expected in our scenario and we're okay with it. Attempted Solutions As I understand from this article and this discussion, the proper way to remove the error message is to ignore it via setting the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" propery to "true". I took the following steps: Logged into vCenter Right-clicked on my HA cluster and chose "Edit Settings..." Clicked "vSphere HA" section Clicked "Advanced Options..." Added the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" option with a value of "true". Question How do I get this error to go away, and are there any reasons why adding this option may not have worked? • apticron, apt-get dist-upgrade and aptitude

  I'm confused, on my debian server I've gotten the daily "updates available" message by apticron. I normally then just use aptitude to install the upgrades. Today I got a message which shows two upgrades. But they don't show up in aptitude. When I do a apt-get dist-upgrade they show up as "NEW" packages to be installed. aptitude dist-upgrade seems to ignore them. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening and how to get rid of the messages (It doesn't seem like I really need the new packages)

• New install of Steam not running on new install of Ubuntu 13.10

  I tried purging steam, un-installing and reinstalling steam, deleting /home/.steam/share/steam/appcache/, deleting everything in /home/.steam/share/steam/ and nothing helped. I installed Ubuntu, then steam into it directly afterward. I installed steam from Ubuntu Software Centre, launched it, it updated 206MB, then closed. When I tried to launch it again, it momentarily flashes the checking for update dialogue, then closes every time. Then (in an unrelated event) Ubuntu said some system updates are necessary and one of them was Steam launcher. I did the update, tried to launch Steam; same story. Really need help on this, as I did a complete re-isntall of Ubuntu, then Steam again and it did not help at all. • CruiseControl.Net - not able to see Project Statistics

  Hi all, I've made a reinstallation of the buildserver and can no longer see the standard graphs of project statistics. The error message shown is "Missing/Invalid statistics reports. Please check if you have enabled the Statistics Publisher, and statistics have been collected atleast once after that." To the best of my knowledge, the ccnet.config file has not been changed in this respect and by inspection it is verified that I have a Statistics / statisticsList-section for the project. Furthermore, the values appear in the Artifacts\statistics.csv and Artifacts\report.xml files. My guess would then be StatisticsGraph.xslt, which I have copied fresh from distribution to both Server\xlst and WebDashboard\xslt (why are they located in both places, by the way!?). Rebuild and check - still same error message. Any hints to how to debug this would be appreciated!

• How do I send mail from Tripwire using SMTP?

  I have just installed tripwire using Ubuntu repos and have gone into the configuration files and changed everything to what I want. When in comes to the options for SMTP mail method and the server and port to use, I am stumped. When I run the test email I get this error message. /usr/sbin/tripwire --test --email blah@nowhere Sending a test message to: blah@nowhere ### Error: The SMTP connection could not be established. ### Server: localhost ### Exiting... Email test failed. I have made appropriate changes to the firewall. I don't have an smtp server installed. Do I need to? Any other ways I could use without installing an SMTP server due to security issues?
