  • Why are types found on an imported namepace but not on a fully qualified namespace after retargeting the framework?

    We've just re-targeted a VB.NET project from .Net 2.0 to 3.5. Various framework types are now missing from our project. Wherever the type is referenced using a fully qualified namespace it's missing. If the relevant namespace is imported for the type; it's found. For example, this doesn't find the type Object, with compiler error "System.Object is not defined.": Public Class Foo Inherits System.Object End Class However, this works ok: Imports System Public Class Foo Inherits [Object] End Class I've already tried re-opening the solution with no success.

  • Would like help with LOGON Trigger

    I've created a logon trigger in MS SQL that needs to check dm_exec_sessions for a login. This login is the user listed in the connection string and has owner right to the database. If the login is verified, I need it to update a specific table and send an email. So far I've done just the following piece and it disabled my web site. The error I get is: "Logon failed for login 'dev' due to trigger execution. Changed database context to 'mydatabase'. Changed language setting to us_english." Any idea what I did wrong?   • SQL Database dilemma : Optimize for Querying or Writing?

    I'm working on a personal project (Search engine) and have a bit of a dilemma. At the moment it is optimized for writing data to the search index and significantly slow for search queries. The DTA (Database Engine Tuning Adviser) recommends adding a couple of Indexed views inorder to speed up search queries. But this is to the detriment of writing new data to the DB. It seems I can't have one without the other! This is obviously not a new problem. What is a good strategy for this issue?

  • refactoring my code. My headers (Header Guard Issues)

    I had a post similar to this awhile ago based on a error I was getting. I was able to fix it but since then I been having trouble doing things because headers keep blocking other headers from using code. Honestly, these headers are confusing me and if anyone has any resources that will address these types of issues, that will be helpful. What I essentially want to do is be able to have rModel.h be included inside RenderEngine.h. every time I add rModel.h to RenderEngine.h, rModel.h is no longer able to use RenderEngine.h. (rModel.h has a #include of RenderEngine.h as well). So in a nutshell, RenderEngine and rModel need to use each others functionalities.   • How to avoid that the Parameter Pane Area in Drill-Through Report is hidden

    I have a report that via a text box property action triggers a drill-through report (and gives it two parameters (start date, end date)). That all works fine in the report designer, however after deploying the report on the server the pane in the drill-through reports is hidden. Is there a way I can change this behavior. Our users want the pane to be visible in the drill-through report.

  • How to do bulk update of views?

    My database has about 30 views, most of which have a reference to another database on this server (call it DB1). Now, without going into the reasons why, I need to update all those views to DB2, also on the local server. I would hate to have to do this manually on each view. Is there some SQL query I can run that will replace all occurrences of the string 'DB1' with 'DB2' in all my views?

  • Changing colour of types for VB.net in VS

    I am currently working on a VB.NET project and the hardest thing that I am having trouble with is that everything is black and blue. Having worked a lot with C#, I really like the way that types are colored differently. I have tried going in and having a look at the "Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors" and the various "User Types" under "Display Items" is set to a different colour but its not reflecting that colour in the text editor. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    i need to port a VS2005 Project (.NET2) to a VS2008 (.NET3.5) (or to VS2010 .NET4 not yet defined). The project is composed by: resources and configuration files (VS project files, like: .settings .vbproj .myapp .config .xconfig .Designer.vb); a lot of VB codes; xsc, xsd, xss and xsx files; a lot of Crystal reports for VS2005; graphical resources. The application take data in order to generate reports from more DB SQL Server 2005 istances. What is the best way to approach to a migration activity? Is there an internal migration tool? If yes, what's the best practice to use it? Which kind of files will be automatically ported to the new VS version? Thanks in advance for all the provided information

  • redirect web app results to own application

    Is it possible to redirect a web apps results to a second application? I cannot parse the html source. It contains the javascript functions that execute the queries but all the content is probably server side. I hope this makes sense. The owner has made the script available but I am not sure how this helps. Can I using .net call the site and redirect results perhaps to a file or database? the app accesses one of googles apis and performs searches/queries and returns results which are displayed on the site. Now all the javascript functions that perform these queries are listed in the source but I do not know javascript so it does not make much sense to me. I have used the documentation which uses the oauth protocol to access the api and have implemented that in my web app but it took me nearly a week to get the request token right and now to send requests to the api, sometimes I get one result back and sometimes none. It is frustrating me and the owner of the web app has given use of his script but he says all that happens is that my browser interacts with the google api and not his server. So I thought why not have my web app call his, since his interacts with the API flawlessly and have the results sent to my app to save in a database. I have very little experience here so pardon my ignorance

I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?

  • Serialize() not using .XmlSerializers.dll produced with Sgen

    I have a sgen step in my .NET 3.5 library, producing a correct XYZ.XmlSerializers.dll in the output directory. Still having poor serialization performance, I discovered that .NET was still invoking a csc at runtime. Using process monitor, I saw that .NET was searching for a dll named "XYZ.XmlSerializers.-1378521009.dll". Why is there a '-1378521009' in the filename ? How to tell .NET to use the 'normal' DLL produced by sgen ?

    I am listing all FK constraints for a given table using INFORMATION_SCHEMA set of views with the following query: SELECT X.UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME, "C".*, "X".* FROM "INFORMATION_SCHEMA"."KEY_COLUMN_USAGE" AS "C" INNER JOIN "INFORMATION_SCHEMA"."REFERENTIAL_CONSTRAINTS" AS "X" ON "C"."CONSTRAINT_NAME" = "X"."CONSTRAINT_NAME" AND "C"."TABLE_NAME" = 'MY_TABLE' AND "C"."TABLE_SCHEMA" = 'MY_SCHEMA' Everything works perfectly well, but for one particular constraint the value of UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME column is wrong, and I need it in order to find additional information from the referenced Column. Basically, for most of the rows the UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME contains the name of the unique constraint (or PK) in the referenced table, but for one particular FK it is the name of some other unique constraint. I dropped and re-created the FK - did not help. My assumption is that the meta-data is somehow screwed. Is there a way to rebuild the meta data so that the INFORMATION_SCHEMA views would actually show the correct data?

For instance, I would like to turn off stopping on FCE for a certain piece of code, that generates many FCE, however, I would like it to be active for all the other code.     If i'm given a date (say @d = '11-25-2010'), how can I determine the end of the quarter from that date. I'd like to use a timestamp one second before midnight. I can get this: select dateadd(qq, datediff(qq, 0, getdate()), 0) as quarterStart which gives me: '10-1-2010' and I use this for one second before midnight of a given day: select DateAdd(second, -1, DateAdd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, @d))+1, 0) ) AS DayEnd in the end, a quarterEnd method would give me '12-31-2010 23:59:00'

    I'm using Grid view in my asp.net page and I'm fetching data from SQL Server and placing in my grid view. Now my problem is, I'm using paging and placing 50 rows per page in Grid view. I would like to fetch top 50 rows from database in the start up and bind to the Grid View and when i click on next page, then again go to the database and fetch Second Top 50 rows and bind to GV. and this process hasto continue until last row is fetched from Database.     Hello, I have searched a lot to find a solution for my problem, but I can't find any specific solution. I need to change a value which is stored under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\APP_NAME. It is not possible to use .NET's registry functions, since they have drastic restrictions.   • SQL Server Composite Primary Keys

    I am attempting to replace all records for a give day in a certain table. The table has a composite primary key comprised of 7 fields. One such field is date. I have deleted all records which have a date value of 2/8/2010. When I try to then insert records into the table for 2/8/2010, I get a primary key violation. The records I am attempting to insert are only for 2/8/2010. Since date is a component of the PK, shouldn't there be no way to violate the constraint as long as the date I'm inserting is not already in the table? Thanks in advance.

  • Visual Studio 2010 - Is it slow for anyone else?

    I've read a lot of stuff about VS2010 being much more performant than VS2008. When I've finally installed it, I found that it, in fact, is much slower (save for the Add References dialog). For instance, Silverlight projects take twice as long to load, the startup of the IDE itself is much slower, etc... Am I missing something here or is it like this for everyone?

  • Running an application from an USB device...

    I'm working on a proof-of-concept application, containing a WCF service with console host and client, both on a single USB device. On the same device I will also have the client application which will connect to this service. The service uses the entity framework to connect to the database, which in this POC will just return a list of names. If it works, it will be used for a larger project. Creating the client and service was easy and this works well from USB. But getting the service to connect to the database isn't. I've found this site, suggesting that I should modify machine.config but that stops the XCopy deployment. This project cannot change any setting of the PC, so this suggestion is bad. I cannot create a deployment setup either. The whole thing just needs to run from USB disk. So, how do I get it to run? (The service just selects a list of names from the database, which it returns to the client. If this POC works, it will do far more complex things!)
