  • How to automate mysql backups?

    hi, I want to automatize the backup of my databases and files with cron. Should I add the following lines to crontab ? mysqldump -u root -pPASSWORD database_name | gzip > /home/backup/database_`date +\%m-\%d-\%Y`.sql.gz svn commit -m "Committing the working copy containing the database dump" 1) First of all, is this a good approach? 2) It is not clear how to specify the repository and the working copy with svn. 3) How can I run svn only when the mysqldump is done and not before ?   • vb6 ADODB TSQL procedure call quit working after database migration

    This code was once working on sql server 2005. Now isolated in a visual basic 6 sub routine using ADODB to connect to a sql server 2008 database it throws an error saying: "Login failed for user 'admin' " I have since verified the connection string does work if i replace the body of this sub with the alternative code below this sub. When I run the small program with the button, it stops where it is marked below the asterisk line. Any ideas? thanks in advance.     Hi, I'm working on a Content Management System, and so far so good. I'm trying to get the system to work with a maintenance mode system. The value is currently set to 1, but it still displays the stuff in the else. Any ideas?

  • PHP OO vs Procedure with AJAX

    I currently have a AJAX heavy(almost everything) intranet webapp for a business. It is highly modularized(components and modules ala Joomla), with plenty of folders and files. ~ 80-100 different viewing pages (each very unique in it's own sense) on last count and will likely to increase in the near future. I based around the design around commands and screens, the client request a command and sends the required data and receives the data that is displayed via javascript on the screen. That said, there are generally two types of files, a display files with html, javascript, and a little php for templating. And also a php backend file with a single switch statement with actions such as, save, update and delete and maybe other function. There is very little code reuse. Recently, I have been adding an server sided undo function that requires me to reuse some code. So, I took the chance to try out OOP but I notice that some functions are so simple, that creating a class, retrieving all the data then update all the related rows on the database seems like overkill for a simple action as speed is quite critical. Also I noticed there is only one class in an entire file. So, what if the entire php is a class. So, between creating a class and methods, and using global variables and functions. Which is faster?

    Apologies if my terminology is off, I'm new to C#. I'm trying to use an ApplicationContext file to store mysql conn values, like dbname, username, password. The class with mysql conn string is "using" the namespace for the ApplicationContext, but when I print out the connection string, the values are making it. A friend said, "I'm not initializing it" but couldn't stay to expand on what "it" was. and the "Console.WriteLine("1");" in ApplicationContext.cs never shows up. Do I need to create an ApplicationContext object and the call Initialize() on that object? Thanks for any help.
