• Web server suddenly stopped working

  I have a web server, which was working fine. It also was an FTP server and a Windows Remote Desktop server, all working fine. Someone called our ISP to increase the internet speed, and suddenly nothing works - I can connect with Teamviewer, but HTTP, FTP & RD doesn't work. Disabled firewall. Ran Wireshark - the packets don't come through at all. Set the webserver to port 20111, in case the ISP is blocking port 80, and again, the packets didn't come through at all. (localhost:20111 works fine) Port forwarding is set up for ports 80, 21, 3389 & 20111 to 10.0.0.32 (which is the correct address - checked with ipconfig). Restarted router and computer. I would be very grateful for any help.

• Web service access fails when users password is in warning period

  We have a number of locally installed .Net apps that communicate via web services. Authentication in IIS is handled by Windows Authentication so no additional login is required. We recently began seeing a problem where users are getting a application 403 error when there password is 14 days (or less) from expiring. As this sometime happens in the the middle of the day (login in the morning OK, but password reaches <14 days during the day), this comes as a surprise as they haven't been warned to change their password. Of course, one would expect they should be able to work until the password is expired. Any idea on what could be happening here? Why would IIS reject a login if the passsword hasn't actually expired? • How do I save a Web Page?

  Hi all, I have tried many programs and solutions to save web pages (html, mht, doc, pdf). My favorite software was an addon for browsers from Omnipage (OCR). What I like about this is that it prints the whole page (continuously) and it doesn't write the URL or page numbers on the page, which I find annoying. Does anyone know a software like this one (freeware or not)? I tried CutePDF and it didn't work for me. I want this for my offline use and would prefer a PDF.

  I've created a simple web application, a self-contained tool with a user system. I host it publicly for everyone to use, but I've gotten some requests to allow companies to host the entire application privately on their internal systems. I have no idea what I'm doing - I have no experience with deployment or server stuff. I'm just some person who learned enough JS and PHP to make a tool for my own needs. The application runs with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. What's the best way to package my application to let others run it privately? I'm assuming there's better options than just sending them all the source code. I'd like to find a solution that is: Does not require support to set up (I'm just a single developer without much free time) Easy to configure Easy to update Does there exist some one-size-fits all thing that I can give to someone, they can install it, and bam, now when they go to http://myapplication/ on their intranet, it works?   Hi, I need a webserver (lamp) running inside a virtual machine (#1) running as a service (#2) in headless mode (#3) with part or the whole filesystem encrypted (#4). The virtual machine will be started with no user intervention and provide access to a web application for users in the host machine. Points #1,#2 and #3 are checked and proved to be working fine with Sun VirtualBox, so my question is for #4: Can I encrypt the all filesystem and still access the webserver (using a browser) or will grub ask me for a password? If encrypting the all filesystem is not an option, can I encrypt only /home and /var/www ? will apache/php be able to use files in /home or /var/www without asking for a password or mounting these partitions manually? • How do I move an Amazon micro instance to a small instance?

  I want to move my instance to a micro instance to a small instance but when I try to launch a new AMI based on my Micro instance AMI it only gives me the option for 64 bit instances. My initial ami is based off an ubuntu 10.04 image. Is it not possible to move between 64 bit and 32 bit instance? Would it be possible to use a load balancer to have a 32bit instance and a 64bit instance work together? I have a website/web app that I will be uploading huge volumes of data to. I will be starting with 65gigs of images and then moving up to 100+ gigs of images. I am not sure which instance type would be best for this. I was going to use a load balancer and auto scaling to increase the number of instance when the load is high. Also when using a load balancer, does one of the AMI instance become the primary image and the rest act as clones of it?

  I have been asked at work to find a solution to one of our problems. We have several logs that customers need access to, because we don't want to give them direct access to the folder/share we are looking to implement a simple Web based solution that permits customers to login see a list of files they have permissions to and download the file. It would need to be able to setup permissions so User01 can see file01 and file03 and User02 can see file04 and file06, optimally all the files would be under the same folder, so permissions are based on files rather then based on folders. • Can't connect to the internet in Windows Vista

  I have a Windows Vista computer which i have used for about 2 years without any issues. Recently, i started having problems connecting to the internet with this Vista computer. My other XP Computers are fine and can connect to the Internet. Regardless of wired or wireless connection, i am unable to get the Vista computer connected to the web. The Status remains "Limited" for IPv4 and IPv6. It also shows unidentified Public Network, and is able to connect to the router. However, there's a disconnection between the router and the internet. Any help will be greatly appreciated, i have been on this for 4 weeks now.

• How to back up OWA exchange emails without Outlook

  My university uses Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) e-mail. Soon they will close my e-mail account as my course has ended, but I really do not want to lose the archive of emails and attachments. I've read a backup to something called a .pst can be made if one has access to Microsoft Outlook but I do not. Is there any other way I could back these up? (preferably on Ubuntu 12.04 but I also have access to Win 7 if need be). One idea I played with is using davmail to allow access via Thunderbird and performing some kind of backup with that. However, I cannot seem to get past Authentication failed: invalid user or password, retry with domain\user.

• Exchange over HTTP

  I have recently setup a brand new install of SBS 2011 and it is working well. Exchange is running as advertised and all users are happy. Now, there are 2 users who would like to work outside of the office and require email setting up in Outlook. No problem - Exchange over HTTP. However for some reason it's not working. They can access Outlook Web Access okay, but for some reason Exchange over HTTP / HTTPS isn't working. The error message I receive in Outlook is: "The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." I've tried temporarily turning off the Firewall on both the server and the client but this doesn't help at all. Is there something I'm missing or is there a permission that needs enabling to allow Exchange over HTTP to work?? Many thanks

• Can't access to access to my web server inside a network with Firewall on

  I set up a Web server with the following: There is the Internet Router, configured to Port Foward port 80 to my computer assigned to my PC's IP: 192.168.1.128 My PC is connected to that wireless router from wlan0 Then, my PC is also connected to my device (which is the webserver) with a crossover-cable usign eth0 having this anohter IP: 10.42.43.1 Finally, my device (the webserver) is connected with eth0 with this IP: 10.42.43.55 As you can see, I need to install a reverse-proxy to be able to resolve to my device's webserver. I installed pound (proxy server) in my PC and configured properly to make 192.168.1.128 resolve to 10.42.43.55 So, I just typing my ISP provided IP 200.x.x.x resolves to my device webserver. But there's a problem: I HAD TO STOP MY FIREWALL. I don't know how I need exactly configure the firewall in SUSE YAST2, or at least iptables. Stopping it is not an option, not for security reasons, just because there's port fowarding rule that is needed to give Internet access to my device too. I'm using openSUSE 12.1

I mean sites with which I can open a secured session, and then to exchange through them with other sites in a secure way both URLs and content? Thanks in advance. UPDATE Sorry for not being clear. I was wondering if there was a way to access any site over the Internet (http or https) without letting any Intranet-proxy read the requested URL or the received content. My question is whether such a site exists, e.g.: I am connected to that site via https, I send it a URL in a secured way, the site gets the content from the target site (possibly in a non-secured way) and returns to me the requested content in a secured way.

  I am running an nginx web server where I redirect all http requests to https (with a self signed cert). Here is how I REDIRECT all http requests to https in the nginx config file: server { listen 80 default_server; listen [::]:80 default_server ipv6only=on; server_name my.server.ip; return 301 https://$server_name$request_uri; Problem is - I cannot seem to do so for an app running on a port. Example: http://my.server.ip:1234 does not redirect to https://my.server.ip:1234 ir works fine on all other urls like http://my.server.ip/temp etc. How can I modify the nginx config file to force that app url through ssl?

  Every once in a while i have to connect to a server where access is highly restricted. Only inbound SSH is allowed by the DMZ firewall - outbound HTTP connections are blocked. I'm looking for a good way to tunnel web access through my SSH session, so i can install updates and software via yum / apt-get. What do you do in such a situation? SSH has the -D <port> SOCKS proxy option. But unfortunately it is one-way only from client to server and there is no reverse option.

• Multiple Java Apps on single Server

  What is the best way to host potentially dozens of fairly trivial Java web applications on a single machine? These will be for different clients, and so having them isolated from each other is important, so that if one goes down, they don't all go down. I realize Tomcat can handle multiple apps on its own, but having them all run in a single tomcat instance sounds a little scary to me. An instance of tomcat per app also seems silly, since these apps are likely to be fairly basic. Any thoughts?

  I am looking for recommendations for hardware specs for a server that needs to be a web cache for a user population of about 2,000 concurrent connections. The clients are viewing segmented HTTP video in bitrates ranging from 150kbps to 2mbps. Most video is "live" meaning segments of 2-10 secs each, of which 100 or so are maintained at a time. There are also some pre-recorded fixed length videos. How would I go about doing the provisioning calculation for such a server: What kind of HDD (SSD?), how many NICs how much RAM etc? I am thinking of using Varnish on Linux, all the RAM I can get my hands on, 2 CPUs with 6-8 cores each.

The site is running in IIS at a Windows Server 2003 and the solution I came up it that I will Schedule a task that requests the home page every 5 minutes. I am sure that this way the site will stay alive almost all the time. I have downloaded Wget from Wget from Windows and I have installed it at my windows server 2003 but I don't know how to use it in order to ping the server but not download anything. Since I want to use this forever I don't want to save anything on the disk, can you provide me with the command that pings a web page but don't save anything on the disk?

• When does a cached website refresh?

  If i go to example.com [placeholder for different website] it creates the numerous cache entries in the browser for different items on the page and two entries for example.com. One of which expires in 1.5hrs and the other has 'No expiration time.' What I am wondering is: when does the browser display the cached page and when does it get the newest version from the server (when re-visiting the site)? What do the two different expiration times for the top level domain mean? A web page I went to was temporarily redirecting to a different page. After it was back up, I was still getting redirected to the temp page even though the correct page was up. Would this have eventually resolved itself based on expiration times or does the cache need to be cleared?

  We've developing a database driven (70%/30% read/write load) website using C#.NET, IIS and MS SQL Server 2008 to be hosted on Windows 2008. Due to contractual reasons our setup has to be hosted on our own physical/virtual servers instead of a cloud solution at this stage. Could someone outline or link to some best practices that would provide both high availability (priority at the moment) and eventually load balancing for our site. • Web map services displaying poorly

  Web map services no longer display correctly in ArcGIS and Google Earth - no one else on network is experiencing these. Using windows 7 OS. These problem began abruptly (1 day they were working, the next they were not). Specific problems include not displaying at all; correct display on 10% of the monitor and repeating lines of coloured squiggles and text on the remaining 90%; and small, widely spaced, pixels in place of colour fill. • Web application access different between Domain Name and IP

  in our office, we have a web application running. When we access the application by the domain name, http://server.domain.com/application/name it will display the current version of application. However, when we go by the IP address, http://192.168.1.111/application/name it will display the old version of that application. One thing is that we can access that application either by http://server.domain.com/ (it will be redirected to the long URL automatically) or http://server.domain.com/application/name when we are using domain name. But only accessible via the exact URL when we use IP address. Why is it showing the old version and how can it be corrected? It is running JRun4, Apache on Red hat. I've checked in httpd.conf a bit but could not find any. Please advice what should be done to display the same (updated version) when we access using domain name or IP address. Thank you.

• Which free open source CPanel and WHM alternatives do you recommend/use?

  I have been using webmin for some time now, however I miss the elegance and ease of WHM/CPanel combo I've had on shared hosting (and later dedicated hosting) platform. Looking around the web, all I have found that is somewhat at the level of WHM/CPanel was webmin - but WHM/CPanel it is not. Since I'm using this only for our projects, it doesn't matter in the end really. However, we do put our new customers on our servers too, so some sort of CPanel might be an easier thing for them to cope with (mostly going about Email accounts stuff and such). Currently my stack is LAMP (CentOS and Ubuntu Server - several machines, probably ditching CentOS soon in favor of Ubuntu). There is a prospect of Python/Django instead of PHP, but it might take awhile.
