• How to cache dynamic javascript/jquery/ajax/json content with Akamai

  Trying to wrap my head around how things are cached on a CDN and it is new territory for me. In the document we received about sending in environment requests, it says "Dynamically-generated content will not benefit much from EdgeSuite". I feel like this is a simplified statement and there has to be a way to make it so you cache dynamically generated content if the tools are configured correctly. The site we are working with runs off a wordpress database, and uses javascript and ajax to build the pages, based on the json objects that php scripts have generated. The process - user's browser this URL, browser talks to edgesuite tools which will have cached certain pre-defined elements, and then requests from the host web server anything that is not cached, once edgesuite has compiled a combination of the two, it sends that information back to the browser. Can we not simply cache all json objects (and of course images, js, css) and therefore the web browser never has to hit the host server's database, at which point in essence, we have cached our dynamic content? Does anyone have any pointers on the most efficient configuration for this type of system -- Akamai/CDN -- to served javascript/ajax/json generated pages that ideally already hit pre-cached json data? Any and all feedback is welcome!

• Using a WPF ListView as a DataGrid

  Many people like to view data in a grid format of rows and columns. WPF did not come with a data grid control that automatically creates rows and columns for you based on the object you pass it. However, the WPF Toolkit can be downloaded from CodePlex.com that does contain a DataGrid control. This DataGrid gives you the ability to pass it a DataTable or a Collection class and it will automatically figure out the columns or properties and create all the columns for you and display the data.The DataGrid control also supports editing and many other features that you might not always need. This means that the DataGrid does take a little more time to render the data. If you want to just display data (see Figure 1) in a grid format, then a ListView works quite well for this task. Of course, you will need to create the columns for the ListView, but with just a little generic code, you can create the columns on the fly just like the WPF Toolkit’s DataGrid. Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView A Simple ListView ControlThe XAML below is what you would use to create the ListView shown in Figure 1. However, the problem with using XAML is you have to pre-define the columns. Create GridViewColumn’s From Data TableTo display multiple columns in a ListView control you need to set its View property to a GridView collection object. You add GridViewColumn objects to the GridView collection and assign the GridView to the View property. Each GridViewColumn object needs to be bound to a column or property name of the object that the ListView will be bound to. An ADO.NET DataTable object contains a collection of columns, and these columns have a ColumnName property which you use to bind to the GridViewColumn objects. Listing 1 shows a sample of reading and XML file into a DataSet object. After reading the data a GridView object is created. You can then loop through the DataTable columns collection and create a GridViewColumn object for each column in the DataTable. Notice the DisplayMemberBinding property is set to a new Binding to the ColumnName in the DataTable. • TDE Tablespace Encryption 11.2.0.1 Certified with EBS 12

  Oracle Advanced Security is an optional licenced Oracle 11g Database add-on.  Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) offers two different features:  column encryption and tablespace encryption.  11.2.0.1 TDE Column encryption was certified with E-Business Suite 12 as part of our overall 11.2.0.1 database certification.  As of today, 11.2.0.1 TDE Tablespace encryption is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. What is Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) ? Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) allows you to protect data at rest. TDE helps address privacy and PCI requirements by encrypting personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. TDE is completely transparent to existing applications with no triggers, views or other application changes required. Data is transparently encrypted when written to disk and transparently decrypted after an application user has successfully authenticated and passed all authorization checks. Authorization checks include verifying the user has the necessary select and update privileges on the application table and checking Database Vault, Label Security and Virtual Private Database enforcement policies.

• OBIEE 11.1.1 - Disable Wrap Data Types in WebLogic Server 10.3.x

  By default, JDBC data type’s objects are wrapped with a WebLogic wrapper. This allows for features like debugging output and track connection usage to be done by the server. The wrapping can be turned off by setting this value to false. This improves performance, in some cases significantly, and allows for the application to use the native driver objects directly. Tip: How to Disable Wrapping in WLS Administration Console You can use the Administration Console to disable data type wrapping for following JDBC data sources in bifoundation_domain domain: Data Source Name bip_datasource mds-owsm EPMSystemRegistry   To disable wrapping for each JDBC data source (as stated in above table): 1.     If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit. 2.     In the Domain Structure tree, expand Services, then select Data Sources. 3.     On the Summary of Data Sources page, click the data source name for example “mds-owsm”. 4.     Select the Configuration: Connection Pool tab. 5.     Scroll down and click Advanced to show the advanced connection pool options. 6.     In Wrap Data Types, deselect the checkbox to disable wrapping. 7.     Click Save. 8.     To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes. Important Note: This change does not take effect immediately—it requires the server be restarted.

As with previous meet-ups, I sent out a general invitation to the roster of previous ArchBeat panelists to join me on Skype to talk about whatever topic comes up. For this event, Oracle ACE Directors Mike van Alst and Jordan Braunstein  showed up, along with Oracle product manager Jeff Davies.  The result was an impressive and wide-ranging discussion on the evolution of Enterprise Architecture, the role of technology in EA, the impact of social computing, and challenge of having three generations of IT people at work in the enterprise – each with different perspectives on technology. Mike, Jordan, and Jeff talked for more than an hour, and the conversation was so good that slicing and dicing it to meet the time constraints for these podcasts has been a challenge. • Box 2d basic questions

  I am a bit new to box2d and I am developing an game with type and letters. I am using an svg font and generate the box2d bodies direct from the glyphs path definition, using the convex hull of them. I also have an decomposition routine the decomposes this hull if necessary. All this it is more or less working, except that I got some strange errors which definitely are caused by the scale factors. The problem is caused by two factors: first: the world scale of box2d, second: the the precision of curve-approximation of the glyph vectors. So through scaling down the input vertices for box2d, it happens that they become equal caused by numerical precision, what causes errors in box2d. Through scaling the my glyphs a bit up, this goes away. I also goes away if I chose a different world scale factor, but this slows down the whole animation quite much! So if my view port is about 990px * 600px and i want to animate Glyphs in box2d which should have a size from about 50px * 50px up to 300px * 300px, which scale factor of the b2world should i choose? How small should the smallest distance from on vertex to another be, while approximating the glyph vectors? Thanks for help greetings philipp EDIT:: I continued reading the docs of box2d and after rethinking of the units system, which is designed to handle object from 0.1 up to 10 meters, I calculated a scale factor of 75. So Objects 600px width will are 8 meters wide in box2d and even small objects of about 20px width will become 0.26 meters width in box2d. I will go on trying with this values, but if there is somebody out there who could give me a clever advice i would be happy!

• Oracle's Primavera P6 Analytics Now Available!

  Oracle's Primavera product team has announced this week that general availability of our first Oracle BI (OBI) based analytical product with pre-built business intelligence dashboards, reports and KPIs built in. P6 Analytics uses OBI's drill-down capabilities, summarizations, hierarchies and other BI features to provide knowledge to your business users to make the best decisions on portfolios, projects, schedules & resources with deep insights. Without needing to launch into the P6 tool, your executives, PMO, project sponsors, etc. can view up to date project performance information as well as historic trends of project performance. Using web-based portal technology, P6 Analytics makes it easy to manage by exception and then drill down to quickly identify root cause analysis of problem projects. At the same time, a brand new version of the P6 Reporting Database R2 was just announded and is also now available. This updated reporting database provides you with 4 star schemas with spread data and includes P6 activity, project and resource codes. You can use the data warehouse and ETL functions of the P6 Reporting Database R2 with your own reporting tools or build dashboards that utilize the hierarchies & drill down to the day-level on scheduled activities using Busines Objects, Cognos, Microsoft, etc. Both of these products can be downloaded from E-Delivery under the Primavera applications section in the P6 EPPM v7.0 media pack. • Don’t learn SSDT, learn about your databases instead

  Last Thursday I presented my session “Introduction to SSDT” at the SQL Supper event held at the offices of 7 Digital (loved the samosas, guys). I did my usual spiel, tour of the IDE, connected development, declarative database development yadda yadda yadda… and at the end asked if there were any questions. One gentleman in attendance (sorry, can’t remember your name) raised his hand and stated that by attempting to evangelise all of the features I’d missed the single biggest benefit of SSDT, that it can tell you stuff about database that you didn’t already know. I realised that he was dead right. SSDT allows you to import your whole database schema into a new project and it will instantly give you a list of errors and/or warnings pertaining to the objects in your database. Invalid references (e.g a long-forgotten stored procedure that refers to a non-existent column), unnecessary 3-part naming, incorrect case usage, syntax errors…it’ll tell you about all of ‘em! Turn on static code analysis (this article shows you how) and you’ll learn even more such as any stored procedures that begin with “sp_”, WHERE clauses that will kill performance, use of @@IDENTITY instead of SCOPE_IDENTITY(), use of deprecated syntax, implicit casts etc…. the list goes on and on. I urge you to download and install SSDT (takes a few minutes, its free and you don’t need SQL Server or Visual Studio pre-installed), start a new project: right-click on your new project and import from your database: and see what happens: You may be surprised what you discover. Unfortunately this site is not easy to find, and a lot of people are not aware of this site. A good reason to promote it a little. So if you ever get a question on this topic, go to http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/Default.aspx. At that site, you can find also the details of the policy Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy The Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy took effect in October 2002, and applies to most products currently available through retail purchase or volume licensing and most future release products. Through the policy, Microsoft will offer a minimum of: 10 years of support (5 years Mainstream Support and 5 years Extended Support) at the supported service pack level for Business and Developer products 5 years Mainstream Support at the supported service pack level for Consumer/Hardware/Multimedia products 3 years of Mainstream Support for products that are annually released (for example, Money, Encarta, Picture It!, and Streets & Trips) Phases of the Support Lifecycle Mainstream Support Mainstream Support is the first phase of the product support lifecycle. At the supported service pack level, Mainstream Support includes: Incident support (no-charge incident support, paid incident support, support charged on an hourly basis, support for warranty claims) Security update support The ability to request non-security hotfixes Please note: Enrollment in a maintenance program may be required to receive these benefits for certain products Extended Support The Extended Support phase follows Mainstream Support for Business and Developer products. • OTN Developer Days (Review) - San Juan, PR - April 29, 2010

  A quick update on the San Juan, PR event. First off it was a great success with the Keynote audience of 200+. Mickey Ralat, Managing Director Oracle Caribbean, kicked off the event with a quick introduction followed by me delivering the Keynote Message - The Fusion Development Platform which is the first session in the regular OTN DD events that we run in North America. Following this session was a partner, SDT, basically marketing their services which covers the Oracle stack and then following was a very brief presentation on APEX. After this we broke out into the various tracks of Java, (APEX) DB SQL Developer, .NET on Oracle. After the breakout we ran the following sessions in the Java track: Developing with JDBC, UCP, and Java in Database, Rich Internet Applications in Web 2.0, Development Made Simple Without Coding: Developing Reusable Business Components. As expected with the various tracks, we ended up with 50 - 70 in the various sessions within the JAVA track and the audience was very impressed with the power of JDeveloper/ADF 11g and we got a number of questions from licensing cost to upgrading / integrating from Forms. As for the Forms questions, I fielded a number of them and for those I couldn't, I pointed them towards Grants resources which seemed to suffice. They were all, for the most part, unaware of the recent 11.1.1.3 release which occurred only a couple of days prior to the event. The indication was that they were going to download it and use it for the lab that was included on the DVD which we did not have the time for them to even start on.
