  • PhpBB3: adding background to specific php generated text input without affecting the other text inputs

    I have created a custom PhpBB3 style and desperately since a few hours tried to add a background image to a specific comment text area. With firebug I checked if the comment text area had a class and it does, so I tried some css variations and finally tried: sn-inputComment { background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/pencil.png") repeat-x left top #FFFFFF;} { I also tried to find and manipulate the php generated text area but no success. Non of my methods worked. I will provide you all with a tinylink url to my forum with a test user and password access. User: test Password: 123456 url: http://tinyurl.com/9yqpxdb Now when you are logged in you should be redirected to the correct url and you will see a a few text boxes with "Write a comment...". I would be very happy if you could tell me what I did wrong, why im not able to add a background to the text input without having my search boxes and "what is on your mind box" affected.   • URL tracking functionality

    I want my webpage to have two parts. The top part has a textbox. When the user types a URL into the textbox, the bottom part browses to the content of that URL. When the user clicks a link within the bottom part, the bottom part navigates to the new URL, and the textbox in the top part changes to the new URL. How can I do it? NOTE: This behavior is the same as in Google Translate (e.g. here), but without any translation.

  • How can I highlight the line of text that is closest to the mouse?

    I have a long text and I'd like to offer the user a reading help: The current line should be highlighted. To make it easier, I'll just use the Y coordinate of the mouse (this way, the mouse pointer isn't going to get in the way). I have a big DIV with the id content which fills the whole width and a small DIV with the class content for the text (see here for an example). I'm using jQuery 1.4. How can I highlight the line of text that is closest to the current mouse position?

  • Overlapping images w/ image maps obstructing each other

    Information: The images have large transparent sections, so each must be overlapped to create the needed effect. Specifically, the clickable portions of each image are in weird trapezoid shapes meant to be pressed up against each other. Images have image maps with large portions being overlapped by the transparent portions of other nearby (trapezoid) images. I don't expect any change in z indexes will solve this... Combining the image files into a larger single one to overlay a single image map for each section seems less than ideal, especially since I may need to re-order or rename them later and such. Never mind hover animations and other possibilities down the road. What would be the best workaround?

    In Javascript code, I would like to programmatically cause the browser to follow a link that's on my page. Simple case: <a id="foo" href="mailto:[email protected]">something</a> function goToBar() { $('#foo').trigger('follow'); } This is hypothetical as it doesn't actually work. And no, triggering click doesn't do it. I am aware of window.location and window.open but these differ from native link-following in some ways that matter to me: a) in the presence of a <base /> element, and b) in the case of mailto URLs. The latter in particular is significant. In Firefox at least, calling window.location.href = "mailto:[email protected]" causes the window's unload handlers to fire, whereas simply clicking a mailto link does not, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for a way to trigger the browser's default handling of links, from Javascript code. Does such a mechanism exist? Toolkit-specific answers also welcome (especially for Gecko).

  • Multiple use of a form before it is submitted

    I'm new to JavaScript, and trying to figure out the canonical way to do the following. I have a form with some checkboxes and a selector. Let's say the checkboxes are styles of music and the selector is for people's names. I'd like the user to be able to select the styles of music for each of the people's names and then submit the form with all of the data. For example, the user might first check off Classical, Jazz, Rock, and Pop and choose "Joe", then select Jazz, Pop, Country, and Electronica and choose "Jane". So there would have to be two different buttons for "submit person" and "submit form". I would like to: Have a list of the names and their chosen styles populate below the form, for feedback Allow the user to use the form as much as they want, and then submit all the data at the end I get the feeling that using jquery and JSON is perfect for this, but I'm not sure what search terminology to use to figure out how to do this. If it matters, the form will be processed by a Django view in Python.

  • Loading/Displaying large amount of data on webpage.

    I have a webpage which contains a table for displaying a large amount of data (on average from 2,000 to 10,000 rows). This page takes a long time to load/render. Which is understandable. The problem is, while the page is loading the PCs memory usage skyrockets (500mb on my test system is in use by iexplorer) and the whole PC grinds to a halt until it has finished, which can take a minute or two. IE hangs until it is complete, switching to another running program is the same. I need to fix this - and ideally i want to accomplish 2 things: 1) Load individual parts of the page seperately. So the page can render initially without the large data table. A loading div will be placed there until it is ready. 2) Dont use up so much memory or local resources while rendering - so at least they can use a different tab/application at the same time. How would I go about doing both or either of these? I'm an applications programmer by trade so i am still a little fizzy on the things I can do in a web environment. Cheers all.

  • Strange CSS Positioning issue with a fader on a responsive site

    I'm developing a prototype responsive wordpress theme version of my homepage. I'm running into issues with the fader on the homepage. http://dev.epicwebdesign.ca/epicblog/ When the image switches, it uses position:absolute to overlay the pictures, then goes back to position:relative. I need to make the absolute be relative to the bottom left corner of the menu instead of the top left corner of #wrap so it doesn't overlap. I tried putting it in a container div like this: http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/contributor-guide/browser#TOC-Absolutely-positioned-box-inside-a-box-with-overflow:-auto-or-hidden but that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? There are major CSS compatibility issues in IE, try it in chrome. It should look similar to http://epicwebdesign.ca. When the browser window is shrunk horizontially, the whole theme compensates.

  • CSS- How to align background image over bottom border line? Jsfiddle included

    I have an image I am trying to display over the top of a bottom border, but it is being arranged behind the bottom border element (in this example, named "divider"), and I can't get it to align correctly. I would like the image to be displayed in the middle of the the border element and over the top of it. Vertically, I am trying to get the 1px line on the left and right side of the image to align with the 1px border to appear as if it is one element. I have a simple MVC application and my view is missing one thing I could really use. I want to select a local file just to retrieve it's filename. I know it's relatively easy to use the form tag helpers for uploading: <%= file_field 'upload', 'datafile' %></p> I wonder how I could get the filename from the selected file, without uploading the file.
