  am having Some kendoui listviews which consists of kendoui dropdown lists and i want to get those dropdown list selected values. To do this am trying, $("#cnty1").val(); and here is my dropdownlist,i.e., list of countries coming from Database table, <input select STYLE="width:90px;height:auto" id ="cnty1" data-bind="value:cnty1" name="cnty1" data-type="string" data-text-field="cnty" data-value-field="cntyid" data-source="sourcedata1" class="k-d" data-role="dropdownlist" /> <span data-for="cnty1" class="k-invalid-msg"></span> here cnty1 is the id of the dropdown list, but am not getting the value instead am getting "id" of the slected value but not the selected value. And also if the value is not selected am getting the first value id by using $("#cnty1").val(); So, please suggest me a solution so that, 1) I should get only the Selected value and 2) Value of the dropdown list Only if the user selects a value from the list, but don't get the value of the list without selecting.

  I am learning about best practices in MVC2 and I am knocking off a copy of the "Who Can Help Me" project (http://whocanhelpme.codeplex.com/) off Codeplex. In it, they use Castle Windsor for their DI container. One "learning" task I am trying to do is convert this subsystem in this project to use StructureMap. Basically, at Application_Start(), the code news up a Windsor container.   Let's assume the following tables setup for a Zend Framework app. user (id) groups (id) groups_users (id, user_id, group_id, join_date) I took the Data Mapper approach to models which basically gives me: Model_User, Model_UsersMapper, Model_DbTable_Users Model_Group, Model_GroupsMapper, Model_DbTable_Groups Model_GroupUser, Model_GroupsUsersMapper, Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers (for holding the relationships which can be seen as aentities; notice the "join_date" property) I'm defining the _referenceMap in Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers: protected $_referenceMap = array ( 'User' => array ( 'columns' => array('user_id'), 'refTableClass' => 'Model_DbTable_Users', 'refColumns' => array('id') ), 'App' => array ( 'columns' => array('group_id'), 'refTableClass' => 'Model_DbTable_Groups', 'refColumns' => array('id') ) ); I'm having these design problems in mind: 1) The Model_Group only mirrors the fields in the groups table. How can I return a collection of groups a user is a member of and also the date the user joined that group for every group? If I just added the property to the domain object, then I'd have to let the group mapper know about it, wouldn't I? 2) Let's say I need to fetch the groups a user belongs to. Where should I put this logic? Model_UsersMapper or Model_GroupsUsersMapper? I also want to make use of the referencing map (dependent tables) mechanism and probably use findManyToManyRowset or findDependentRowset, something like: $result = $this->getDbTable()->find($userId); $row = $result->current(); $groups = $row->findManyToManyRowset( 'Model_DbTable_Groups', 'Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers' ); This would produce two queries when I could have just written it in a single query. I will place this in the Model_GroupsUsersMapper class. An enhancement would be to add a getGroups method to the Model_User domain object which lazily loads the groups when needed by calling the appropriate method in the data mapper, which begs for the second question. Should I allow the domain object know about the data mapper?

On of these element is a dropdown, when I select a value an another vue is added in the bottom of the page in a div. When I try to access an element added by this view, I received "undefined". What can I do ?   I'm trying to write a test for an UrlHelper extensionmethod that is used like this: Url.Action<TestController>(x => x.TestAction()); However, I can't seem set it up correctly so that I can create a new UrlHelper and then assert that the returned url was the expected one. • jQuery DataTables is messing op my CSS grids in IE8, how to fix?

  I am using ASP.NET MVC3 with the jQuery Datatable plug in. I am having an issues with my CSS layout when the datatable is on a page. If there is no datatable then everything displays fine. When the datatable is on the screen then it overlaps the footer of my website. I can't seem to get this to display correctly. I have a grid layout using the YUI3, and this is what I all use from YUI3 (in this order): cssreset-min cssfonts-min cssgrids-min cssbase-min This works fine in the latest version of FireFox. I am only testing on IE8, this is a requirement and most of the people at my work uses IE8. I have minified my HTML so that only the bare minimum is available. • Can I convert a Stream object to a FileInfo object?

  For the ExcelPackage constructor you need a FileInfo object. I rather use some kind of stream object(f.i. MemoryStream), because I don't need to save the file to the server itself, but expose it as a FileStream anyway to the user. I don't want to make files which I have to delete lateron from servers which are only there for generating purposes and never used again. Apart from that, otherwise I need also the necessary rights for the application/user on the directory/file on the server. So my question is then: How can I convert a stream object to a FileInfo object.

• Best strategy for HTML partial rendering based on multiple dropdown values

  I have a View that renders something like this: "Item 1" and "Item 2" are <tr> elements from a table. After the user change "Value 1" or "Value 2" I would like to call a Controller and put the result (some HTML snippet) in the div marked as "Result of...". I have some vague notions of JQuery. I know how to bind to the onchange event of the Select element, and call the $.ajax() function, for example. But I wonder if this can be achieved in a more efficient way in ASP.NET MVC2.

• Linq to sql DataContext cannot set load options after results been returned

  I have two tables A and B with a one-to-many relationship respectively. On some pages I would like to get a list of A objects only. On other pages I would like to load A with objects in B attached. This can be handled by setting the load options DataLoadOptions options = new DataLoadOptions(); options.LoadWith<A>(a => a.B); dataContext.LoadOptions = options; The trouble occurs when I first of all view all A's with load options, then go to edit a single A (do not use load options), and after edit return to the previous page. I understand why the error is occurring but not sure how to best get round this problem. I would like the DataContext to be loaded up per request. I thought I was achieving this by using StructureMap to load up my DataContext on a per request basis. This is all part of an n-tier application where my Controllers call Services which in turn call Repositories. ForRequestedType<MyDataContext>() .CacheBy(InstanceScope.PerRequest) .TheDefault.Is.Object(new MyDataContext()); ForRequestedType<IAService>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<AService>(); ForRequestedType<IARepository>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<ARepository>(); Here is a brief outline of my Repository public class ARepository : IARepository { private MyDataContext db; public ARepository(MyDataContext context) { db = context; } public void SetLoadOptions(DataLoadOptions options) { db.LoadOptions = options; } public IQueryable<A> Get() { return from a in db.A select a; } So my ServiceLayer, on View All, sets the load options and then gets all A's. On editing A my ServiceLayer should spin up a new DataContext and just fetch a list of A's. When sql profiling, I can see that when I go to the Edit page it is requesting A with B objects.

• Relying on nhibernate's second level cache vs pushing objects into the session

  I have some big entities which are frequently accessed in the same session. For example, in my application there is a reporting page which consist of dynamically generated chart images. For each chart image on this page, the client makes requests to corresponding controller and the controller generates images using some entities. I can either use asp.net's session dictionary for "caching" those entities or rely on nhibernate's second level cache support with using cached queries for example. What is your opinion? By the way I will use shared hosting, is nhibernate's second level cache hosting friendly? Thanks.

• Multi Action with Form design streatgy

  Hello All, I want to have a controller that can handle multiple requests. Like a UserController handling all the addUser, deleteUser, updateUser and viewUser functionality. I know that MultiActionController can be used to bundle multiple similar request into one controller. But the functionalities like addUser and updateUser involves user to enter data, which the controller need to process. Can a MultiActionController handle doSubmit kind of methods (similar to SimpleFormController). Is there any better way to handle this kind of scenario? Thanks. Ravi

• Common DataAnnotations in ASP.Net MVC2

  Howdy, I have what should be a simple question. I have a set of validations that use System.CompontentModel.DataAnnotations . I have some validations that are specific to certain view models, so I'm comfortable with having the validation code in the same file as my models (as in the default AccountModels.cs file that ships with MVC2). But I have some common validations that apply to several models as well (valid email address format for example). When I cut/paste that validation to the second model that needs it, of course I get a duplicate definition error because they're in the same namespace (projectName.Models). So I thought of removing the common validations to a separate class within the namespace, expecting that all of my view models would be able to access the validations from there. Unexpectedly, the validations are no longer accessible. I've verified that they are still in the same namespace, and they are all public. I wouldn't expect that I would have to have any specific reference to them (tried adding using statement for the same namespace, but that didn't resolve it, and via the add references dialog, a project can't reference itself (makes sense). So any idea why public validations that have simply been moved to another file in the same namespace aren't visible to my models?   This question has been asked many times but none that I really understand. I have a checkbox list in a generated table. I want to submit the form and retrieve the checkbox values and capture the checked boxes. Question: How can you let EditorFor display DropDownLists? Since I could not figure out how to display DropDownLists by using EditorFor, I used the DropDownList Html helper and filled it through the view model as follows: public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> DeliveryMethodAsSelectListItem() { List<SelectListItem> list = new List<SelectListItem>(); list.Add(new SelectListItem() { Selected = true, Text = "<Choose Delivery method>", Value = "0" }); foreach (var item in this.DeliveryMethods) { list.Add(new SelectListItem() { Selected = false, Text = item.Value, Value = item.Key }); } return list; } My 2. question: As you can see I pass my view model to the action metho with POST attribute! Is there a way to get the selected value of a DropDownList get binded to the passed view model? At the moment all the DropDownList are empty and the selected value can only be fetched by the Request.Form which I definitely want to avoid! I would greatly appreciate some ideas or tips on this!
