• Using an XML Catalog with a Java library that uses JAXP internally

  I'm using the Apache web service xml rpc library to make requests to an rpc service. Somewhere in that process is a xml document with a DTD reference to http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd, which the library attempts to download when parsing the XML. That download fails with a 503 status code because the w3c is blocking repeated downloads of this largely static document from Java clients. The solution is XML Catalogs to locally cache the DTD. However, while I can find examples of setting an EntityHandler on a JAXP SAXParser instance directly to enable catalog parser support, I don't actually have access to the underlying parser here. It's just being used by the xml rpc library. Is there any way I can set a global property or something that will tell JAXP to use XML catalogs?

• lmerTest package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS precise 32-bit and trying to install the lmerTest package for R version 2.14.1... When I try to install from the CRAN repository or R-forge: install.packages("lmerTest") or install.packages("lmerTest", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org"), I get the error: Warning in install.packages : package ‘lmerTest’ is not available (for R version 2.14.1) So I downloaded the Package Archive File from CRAN and tried to install from this Package source: lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz ,but get the error: "installation of package /home/.../lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz’ had non-zero exit status" I had a similar problem when trying to install lme4, and using the advice from lme4 package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04 was able to download the package using "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lme4" after which it appeared in my R package list and installed fine from there. I tried a similar tactic with lmerTest "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lmerTest" but just get "Unable to locate package r-cran-lmerTest", so really don't know what to do now, bearing in mind that I'm a novice with both Ubuntu and R, any suggestions/help would be much appreciated

  I have a before_create filter that checks if people are posting too many comments. If they are I want to flag their account. class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base before_create :check_rate_limit def check_rate_limit comments_in_last_minute = self.user.comments.count(:conditions => ["comments.created_at > ?", 1.minute.ago]) if comments_in_last_minute > 2 user.update_attribute :status, "suspended" return false end true end end The before filter returns false to stop the comment from being created. The problem is that this triggers a ROLLBACK which also undoes the changes I made to the user model. What's the correct pattern to accomplish this? Specifically: running a check each time an object is created and being able to edit another model if the check fails.

• How do I get Linq-to-SQL to refresh its local copy of a database record?

  Suppose I have an Orders table in my database and a corresponding model class generated by the VS2008 "Linq to SQL Classes" designer. Suppose I also have a stored procedure (ProcessOrder) in my database that I use to do some processing on an order record. If I do the following: var order = dataContext.Orders.Where(o => o.id == orderId).First(); // More code here dataContext.ProcessOrder(orderId); order.Status = "PROCESSED"; dataContext.SubmitChanges(); ...then I'll get a concurrency violation if the ProcessOrder stored proc has modified the order (which is of course very likely), because L2S will detect that the order record has changed, and will fail to submit the changes to that order. That's all fairly logical, but what if I want to update the order record after calling the stored proc? How do I tell L2S to forget about its cached copy and refresh it from the DB?

• Is using value converters to generate GUI-friendly strings a misuse of value converters?

  Currently, I use value converters to generate user-friendly strings for the GUI. As an example, I have a window that displays the number of available entities in the status bar. The Viewmodel simply has an int dependency property that the calling code can set, and then on the binding for the textbox that displays the number of entities, I specify the int dependency property and a value converter that changes "x" into "x entities available". My code is starting to become littered with these converters, and I have a large number of annoying resource declarations in my XAML, and yet I like them because all the GUI-specific string formatting is being isolated in the converters and the calling code doesn't have to worry about it. But still, I wonder if this is not the purpose that value converters were made for.

• Trying to compile MobileSubstrate addon - Undefined symbol

  Hi! I went through this tutorial to create a MobileSubstrate addon. I could compile the example hook without errors. But as soon as I add #import <SpringBoard/SBAwayController.h> in ExampleHookProtocol.h and SBAwayController *awayController = [SBAwayController sharedAwayController]; in ExampleHookLibrary.mm (as the first line of the __$ExampleHook_AppIcon_Launch function) I get the following error message when attempting to make (triggered by the latter change): Undefined symbols: "_OBJC_CLASS_$_SBAwayController", referenced from: __objc_classrefs__DATA@0 in ExampleHookLibrary.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [ExampleHook.dylib] Error 1. The header file for SBAwayController is located in /var/toolchain/sys30/usr/include/SpringBoard, just like SBApplicationIcon.h, which is used by the ExampleHook. I'm compiling on my iPod touch 2G. Am I missing some steps here? • rails accessing value from facebooker hash/array

  This is my first time using the facebooker plugin with rails, and I'm having trouble accessing user info. The website uses FB connect to authenticate users. I am trying to get the name of the university that the logged in user attends. When I use the command <%= facebook_session.user.education_history[:name] %>, I get an error "Symbol as array index". I have also tried using education_history[1], but that just returns "# Facebooker::EducationInfo:<some sort of alphanumeric hash value>" When I use something like <%= facebook_session.user.relationship_status %> , it returns the relationship status just fine. Similarly, <%= facebook_session.user.hometown_location.city %> returns the city name just fine. I've checked out the documentation for facebooker, but I can't figure out the correct way to get the values I need. Any idea on how to get this to work? Thanks!

• Not all parameters get sent in jquery ajax call

Anyone know? Data is sent to asp.net controller that returns jsonresult (hence the contentType) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  Hey Guys, I want to create a section in my site, where a user has a few simple update buttons. Each of these update buttons will be going to the server, and will do a long crunching behind the scene. While the server crunches data, I want the user to have a some kind of progress indicator, like progress bar or textual percentage. I'm using jQuery as my javascript library, and CodeIgniter (PHP) as the server-side framework, if it's important... What I was thinking about is using PHP's flush() function to report progress status to jQuery, but I'm not sure that jQuery's ajax functions are reading the output before it's complete... So any advice/explanation would be useful and helpful! Thanks :)

• Highlighting in Solr 1.4 - requireFieldMatch

  I have an object Title : foo Summary : foo bar Body : this is a published story about a foo and a bar All three are set up as fields with stored=true. The user searches across my system for the word "foo" I would like to highlight foo in all three places. The user searches for the word foo in the title "title:foo" I only want to highlight foo within the title. When I added hl.requireFieldMatch=true and hl.usePhraseHighlighter=true as part of my query over to SOLR I am unable to get the highlighting in all three places when doing a generic non fielded search. Is there a way to get both scenarios to work? I had these two items turned off, but I am adding in some fielded portions of the query that the user does not see which only display Published items for instance. the problem is (foo AND status:published) is causing the word published in the body to highlight when the user only searched for the word "foo".

  I have a website using the prootype framework and I am looking to use a jquery plugin. Everything works just not in IE8. It works in ie7 which amazes me. • How to properly close a socket after an exception is caught?

  Hello, after my last project I had the problem that the client was expecting an object from the server, but while processing the clients input an exception that forces the server to close the socket for security reasons is caught. This causes the client to terminate in a very unpleasant way, the way I decided to deal with this was sending the client a Input status message after each recieved input so that he knows if his input was processed properly or if he needs to throw an exception. So my question: Is there a better/cleaner way to close the socket after an exception is caught?? thanks,

  Currently I'm using a for statement in PHP to get all the months for this SQL statement, but would like to know if I can do it all with SQL. Basically I have to get the average listing price, and the average selling price for each month going back 1 year where the sellingdate = the month. simple with PHP, but that creates 12 database hits. Currently, this is how my table looks: id | userID | field_1 | field_2 | field_3 | field_4 | etc... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Each field represents one Sub Heading. Having this many columns in my table looks awfully inefficient... How can I go about optimizing this? I can't think of any way to neaten it up :/

Apparently now that the response is compressed using gzip, we have to un-compress the XML response before we can start to work with the data. How should i go about this?

  I'm trying to get YouTube feeds with the python gdata library. Authentication features work ok, yt_service.ProgrammaticLogin() works, generating subauth token works, etc., but when I try to get some feeds (GetMostRecentVideoFeed, GetYouTubeVideoEntry, even GetFeed, and any other) I get: RequestError: {'status': 302, 'body': '<HTML><HEAD><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">\n<TITLE>302 Moved</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>\n<H1>302 Moved</H1>\nThe document has moved\n<A HREF="http://www.google.com">here</A>.\r\n</BODY></HTML>\r\n', 'reason': 'Redirect received, but redirects_remaining <= 0'} 302 to 'google.com'???   Basically, what I need is super similar to the unanswered cisco forum question below: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3139749#3139749 I have a Cisco 850 Series router. I have configured a DHCP pool for the 10.0.0.0/24 network. I have excluded 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.99 from the DHCP pool. I want to add a static DHCP pool for stuff and I want DHCP to statically assign them the addresses of my choice below 100. Actually, I don't care what addresses I statically assign. They can be anything in the pool for all I care, I just want it to work. Why are you doing this? Just statically assign the IPs on the devices! I don't want to do this because I have some laptop users. They could obviously only use that static IP here. This isn't a problem if they could be bothered to change any location setting or something. They can't. So it HAS to be DHCP. It also has to be static IPs because I need to forward ports to them. I know, I know, this is weird but it's an apartment LAN/WLAN so this isn't exactly a typical use case. Is what I'm trying to accomplish basically impossible? Am I going about this the wrong way? All I want to to be able to port forward some ports to specific devices. The way I would do this with a consumer router is to do what I'm trying to do here; assign static DHCP to those devices then configure PAT for ports on those addresses.
