  real quick question regarding HAProxy reqrep. I am trying to rewrite/replace the request that gets sent to the backend. I have the following example domain and URIs http://domain/web1 http://domain/web2 I want web1 to go to backend webfarm1, and web2 to go to webfarm2. Currently this does happen. However I want to strip off the web1 or web2 URI when the request is sent to the backend.   I'm trying to install Munin on a new VPS through yum install munin but I keep getting an error about a missing perl module: Requires: perl(:MODULE_COMPAT_5.8.8). This is the perl version currently installed: v5.10.1. I've searched all around and still haven't found a solution for this. • Watchguard SSLVPN user connection issue

  I have a user that needs access to our SSLVPN on our Watchguard firewall from his company issued laptop. The problem is when he tries to connect as himself he cannot connect. If I login to the machine it works fine, if I add him to the domain admins group in Active Directory it works fine… So, we know it is an access issue but I cannot figure out what access he needs.   I binwalked a firmware of a ZTE ZXV10 H108L, and got some encouraging results of uImage uboot, and LZMA compression, as well as a Squashfs 3.0 LZMA compressed filesystem. 256 0x100 uImage header, header size: 64 bytes, header CRC: 0xE70BCBB9, created: Thu Nov 10 04:54:54 2011, image size: 804172 bytes, Data Address: 0x80002000, Entry Point: 0x80266000, data CRC: 0x6EFE90F1, OS: Linux, CPU: MIPS, image type: OS Kernel Image, compression type: lzma, image name: MIPS Linux-2.6.20 320 0x140 LZMA compressed data, properties: 0x5D, dictionary size: 8388608 bytes, uncompressed size: 2637958 bytes 851968 0xD0000 Squashfs filesystem, big endian, lzma signature, version 3.0, size: 2543403 bytes, 632 inodes, blocksize: 65536 bytes, created: Thu Nov 10 04:56:12 2011 Now what I did is, to test several portions of the file (320byte-end, 851968byte-end, and many more) using dd, and trying with certain tools to uncompress/unpack the filesystem of the firmware. After some digging I found out the best tool to do this is the firmware_mod_kit, that understands a squashfs-lzma v3 filesystem. Although I ended up really frustrated as unsquashfs-lzma v3 reported a cold "zlib::uncompress failed, unknown error -3". Do you have any ideas? Could it be that, the firmware is corrupted on purpose to discourage attempts like this? Router file Thanks

• What does "single-bit ECC errors were detected on the RAID controller" mean?

  I have a Dell T7600 with a Perc H710P RAID controller and 4 attached 3TB drives. Over the past few months the RAID controller has been intermittently reporting errors on boot: "no boot device found", "adapter at baseport is not responding", disks frequently reported as missing or failed. I have since replaced the RAID controller, the 4 hard drives, and finally the system's motherboard. After replacing the motherboard and rebooting a few times, I got the error Single bit ECC errors were detected on the RAID controller. Please contact technical support to resolve this issue. After rebooting about 20 more times, I haven't seen the ECC error. The system seems otherwise OK, except for the fact that the disk fans will sometimes start blowing at full blast when the the system is sitting completely idle and not stop until I reboot. Are the ECC errors in memory on the RAID controller? Or, does the RAID controller map in system memory, and the ECC errors are really in system memory? Or, are the ECC errors in the 1GB cache that resides in the RAID controller?

• Dell VRTX - slow cluster shared storage

  I have a brand new Dell VRTX box set up as a Failover Cluster running HA Hyper-V virtual machines. This is my first time setting up clustering, and my first time with one of these boxes, so I'm sure I've missed something. The virtual machines are experiencing high disk latency and bad performance when accessing their VHD(x) files located on a Cluster Shared Volume. The VRTX has 10 x 900 GB 10K SAS drives in RAID 6 configuration, and the VRTX has the redundant Shared PERC 8 controllers. Both blades have full access to the virtual disks. There are two M520 blades installed, each with 128 GB RAM. MPIO is configured for the PERC 8 controllers. Operating system on the blades is Server 2012 (NOT R2). The RAID 6 array is split into a small (8 GB) volume for cluster quorum witness and a large (6.5 TB) volume for a Cluster Shared Volume (mounted on the nodes as C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1) An example of slow disk access: logging into a Server 2012 VM and having Server Manager come up automatically. Disk access goes to 100%, with write speeds at 20 MB or so, read speeds of 500 KB or so, and Average Response Time of over 1000 ms, sometimes spiking at 4000-5000 ms or so. It's the latency that really worries me. Is there something specific I should look at in my configuration? It doesn't seem to matter whether I use VHD or VHDX, dynamic or static.

• How do I connect two computers with a LAN cabel?

  I have two machines - Windows XP and a laptop using Windows 7. I connected them with a WLAN cable. On the Windows XP machine, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.10. On the Windows 7 laptop, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.20. The laptop can see the Windows XP machine, but Windows XP machine cannot see the Windows 7 machine. But this does NOT concern me. I want to move the files from my desktop (Windows XP) to Windows 7 (laptop). That's why I'm going through all this. The problem is that when I try to connect from Windows 7 to Windows XP machine, I get this window: I don't understand what username/password is needed. I use none on the Windows XP machine. I tried all usernames - no success. Please explain in deep details how to solve my problem so I can connect to my Windows XP machine. EDIT: Maybe this can help: the Windows XP machine is named 'I' and '???????? III' is the name of the laptop. Both computers share one workgroup - WORKGROUP.

• Setting up Tomcat6 properly in Ubuntu 10.04

  We have a Tomcat6 instance running on Ubuntu 10.04LTS. Our test box was just a Windows machine running Tomcat6. Both machines (Linux and Windows) have 1GB of ram. Via the Tomcat configuration tool in windows, I was able to set the min/max/permgen sizes of the JVM. Those were set to 256/512/128 respectively. Now on the Ubuntu box, I've tried setting the JVM options in several different places including: Adding JAVA_OPTS & CATALINA_OPTS in /etc/environment Adding JAVA_OPTS in $CATALINA_HOME/bin/catalina.sh Creating setenv.sh and adding JAVA_OPTS in $CATALINA_HOME/bin Adding JAVA_OPTS directly to /etc/init.d/tomcat6 Un-commenting the JAVA_OPTS and modifying it in /etc/default/tomcat6 Nearly all of those methods did not work, except for modifying /etc/init.d/tomcat6 directly (and possibly the /etc/default/tomcat6 change, but I just did that). However, my understanding is that when you change these settings, only one JVM should be used for the entire tomcat6 instance, and that memory is shared among the applications. On our windows box, tomcat6 is run as a service, and appears to behave this way. However, when I look at htop on the linux box, there are 20+ tomcat6 instances (I have an app that triggers internal jobs every X seconds using chron, so maybe these are threads? Or are they actual instances) all with those memory settings. The app runs fine for a bit, but eventually ends up locking up. I'm guessing each of these apps thinks it has 512m to work with and never GC's and then locks tomcat up completely. What is the proper way to set all of this up?

• Convert Custom Firefox Setup to Firefox Portable?

  I have a pretty awesome firefox set up and spent a lot of time getting it perfect. Is there any way that anyone knows about to convert the entire configuration to portable? Programs like MozBackup are great for backing up the complete set up, but you can't restore a Firefox profile to Firefox portable (maybe there is a workaround to fake it out? or possibly another method?) In case anyone is interested here is the gist of the best add-ons I've found: Autopager (scroll down google and other multi page results without clicking next) Coral IE Tab (IE in firefox - in case a website 'insists' that you use IE) Cyber search (search google straight from the address bar - VERY HELPFUL) Download StatusBar (display progress of downloads in the bottom of ff - no annoying popups FireFTP (erases need for an external FTP client - opens in a tab) Gmail manager (if you use multiple gmail accounts) Session Manager (saving multiple sessions of tabs - ff session recover) Surf Canyon (pull relevant stuff out of the depths of search results - even from craigslist Tab Mix Plus (ESSENTIAL - tab behavior customization - have multiple rows of tabs I also have it set up so you can type 'g test' in the address bar and ff will pull up the google results for 'test'. Similarly have it set up for guitar tabs (tab), facebook (f), wikipedia (w), google maps from my house (gmhome), torrents (tor), ticketmaster (t), rotten tomatoes (rt), craiglist (c) plus about 20 other sites.

  I'm working on a systems monitoring product that currently focuses on performance at the system level. We're expanding out to monitoring database systems. Right now we can fetch simple performance information from a selection of DBMS, like connection count, disk IO rates, lock wait times, etc. However, we'd really like a way to measure the execution time of every query going into a DBMS, without requiring the client to implement monitoring in their application code. Some potential solutions might be: Some sort of proxy that sits between client and server. SSL might be an issue here, plus it requires us to reverse engineer and implement the network protocol for each DBMS. Plugin for each DBMS system that automatically records performance information when a query comes in. Other problems include "anonymising" the SQL, i.e. taking something like SELECT * FROM products WHERE price > 20 AND name LIKE "%disk%" and producing SELECT * FROM products WHERE price > ? AND name LIKE "%?%", though this shouldn't be too difficult with some clever parsing and regex. We're mainly focusing on: MySQL MSSQL Oracle Redis mongodb memcached Are there any plugin-style mechanisms we can utilise for any of these? Or is there a simpler solution?
