  • P=NP?-Problem: What are the most promising methods?

    - by phimuemue
Hello everybody, I know that P=NP has not been solved up to now, but can anybody tell me something about the following: What are currently the most promising mathematical / computer scientific methods that could be helpful to tackle this problem? Or are there even none such methods known to be potentially helpful up to now? Is there any (free) compendium on this topic where I can find all / most of the research done in this area?

  • Vertical scrolling in silverlight

    - by Mrt
I have a silverlight application that is set to use 100% browser height. As I dynamically add controls to a canvas (which can be dragged around), I would like the expand the canvas vertically. Ideally show the browser scrollbar so the user can move up or down, if that can't be done, use the scrollbar control. I would also need to handle the user changing the size of the browser. Any suggestions on how to do this ? Cheers,

  • how to find files in a given branch

    - by Haiyuan Zhang
I noticed that when doing code view, people here in my company usually just give the branch in which his work is done, and nothing else. So I guess there must be a easy way to find out all the files that has a version in the given branch which is the same thing to find all the files that has been the changed. Yes, I don't know the expected "easy way" to find files in certain branch, so need your help and thanks in advance.

  • how to make oracle case insensitive

    - by yuri
Can there be a setting on Oracle 10g to consider data as case insensitive? I saw a solution here. However, that is done on a session. What I am looking for is a setting either on a schema or on a table to consider it's data as case insensitive. If it is on a session then I will have to make the change on all the stored procedures.

  • Can splitting .MDB files into segments help with stability?

    - by Craig Johnston
Is this a realistic solution to the problems associated with larger .mdb files: split the large .mdb file into smaller .mdb files have one 'central' .mdb containing links to the tables in the smaller .mdb files How easy would it be to make this change to an .mdb backed VB application? Could the changes to the database be done so that there are no changes required to the front-end application?

  • Accelerometer data analysis

    - by jrrt
Hello, I would like to know if there are some libraries/algorithms/techniques (python, if at all possible) that help to extract features from accelerometer data (extracted from and android phone, btw), like periodicity of movements, energy of acceleration and the like. Has anyone done this kind of task before? Thank you very much in advance :)

  • How do you manage the namespaces of your extension methods?

    - by Robert Harvey
Do you use a global, catchall namespace for all of your extension methods, or do you put the extension methods in the same namespace as the class(es) they extend? Or do you use some other method, like an application or library-specific namespace? EDIT: I ask because I have a need to extend System.Security.Principal.IIdentity, and putting the extension method in the System.Security.Principal namespace seems to make sense, but I've never seen it done this way.

  • Opening txt files in Internet Explorer 8 parses some html

    - by Rob
I'm not sure if it's just me, but whenever I open .txt files in internet explorer, it always parses the HTML, so forms, buttons, fields all show up. It does this on multiple computers, and I'm fairly sure it hasn't always done this. I know FireFox doesn't, FireFox loads it as a text file. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, have you solved it? If so again, how?

  • Bash: easy way to put a configurable load on a system?

    - by WizardOfOdds
In order to test how a program reacts when system resources become scarce (mainly the CPU but I'm interested in disk I/O too), I'd like to put an arbitrary load on the system. Currently I'm doing something like this: #!/bin/bash while true do echo "a" >> a.txt md5 a.txt done I could also start mp3-encoding audio files, or whatever. What would be an easy and small Bash script that could be used to simulate an arbitrary load, ideally configurable using parameter(s)?

  • Visual Studio: Debuggin non localhost domain, locally

    - by Skawful
I have an entry in my hosts file that points somesite.com to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) so that I can test certain aspects of my web app (i goto http://somesite.com in a browser to test). Can someone suggest a way to debug a setup like this (in visual studio) that does not include using http://localhost? I understand that this can most likely be done using remote debugger, if that is the best way can someone explain how thats setup (or a link to a good article).

  • How to lock files in a tomcat web application?

    - by yankee
The Java manual says: The locks held on a particular file by a single Java virtual machine do not overlap. The overlaps method may be used to test whether a candidate lock range overlaps an existing lock. I guess that if I lock a file in a tomcat web application I can't be sure that every call to this application is done by a different JVM, can I? So how can I lock files within my tomcat application in a reliable way?

  • reloading a table view with an Iphone app

    - by ajaywillis
I am using a table view controller that makes a call to a web service and then parses the XML and display it in the table view. The problem is that the first time that I load it the XML apparently is not finished parsing before the view is shown. How can I reload the view after the XML is done parsing?

  • Wait for all WPF animations to stop

    - by Ray
Given a WPF window, which may or may not have animations, I'd like to wait until they are all done before continuing processing. Is there a generic way to do this. Currently I can do something like this: void WaitForAnimation(Storyboard storyboard) { WaitUntil(() => storyboard.GetCurrentState() == ClockState.Stopped); } But this assumes I know the storyboards or have some way of finding them. Is there a way of doing that?

  • Get total size of all Shared Folders (Except Admin Shares) from a list of Servers?

    - by bEUY
    Hi there, I'm looking to calculate the total size of all shared folders (except admin shares) on a number of different servers (consolidating all accessed files to a NAS box for easier backup / restore) but am having a bit of trouble finding a solution. I'm certain this could be done in powershell but I just can't find the right information to get me going, I can currently spit out a list of all shares on the servers but am not sure where to go from here: $servers =@( "server1", "server2") foreach($server in $servers) { get-WmiObject Win32_Share -computerName $server -filter "Type = 0" }
