  • Can Windows 7 Jump Lists be made to behave like menus when dragged out with a mouse?

    - by FocusStealer
On a traditional menu, if you mousedown on the menu title, drag down, then release on a menu item, it will trigger that menu item immediately, e.g. in Notepad: Left mouse button down on File Drag down to New Release mouse button will start a new file without requiring an additional click. However, when dragging out a Jump List on Windows 7, you must additionally click the desired item to launch it. Is there any way to change this behavior?

  • Read-only access to MMC functionality

    - by Travis Ingram
Does anyone know of a Windows Server 2008 role(s) to allow readonly access to MMC (MS Management Console) facilities - i.e. we would like to be able to view (not add/update/delete) "Administrative Tools" functionality such as IIS websites, Event log, Users and groups, status of services, etc. This is so we can connect to a say a Development server (administered by another team) to check configuration before/during deployment via say Administive Tools | Computer Management | Connect to another computer Many thanks Travis

Hi there, I would like to know where are the WebSphere configuration details saved? Specifically, configuration details that are shown in the Administrative Console (from the web) or from the console using wsadmin. Some of the examples would be: Java and Process Management: Class loader, Process definition, Process execution Container Settings: Session management, SIP Container Settings, Web Container Settings, Portlet Container Settings Are there XML files that persist these configuration details? • Install php-mcrypt on CentOS 4.4

    - by Valorin
I need to get php-mcrypt running on a CentOS 4.4 box, so I can use a PHP mcrypt module (as per company policy). I have tried installing it via yum, as I did with a CentOS 5.5 box, with no luck. [root@server www]# yum install php-mcrypt Setting up Install Process Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata in from local files Parsing package install arguments No Match for argument: php-mcrypt Nothing to do [root@server www]# cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 4.4 (Final) I have very little experience with CentOS, so I don't really know what to do next...

  • What exactly is the difference between update-manager -d and normal apt-get?

    - by jldugger
The official recommendation of Ubuntu is to use sudo do-release-upgrade to do an online upgrade from one version to the next. Historically many of my Debianite friends and myself have simply altered apt's sources.list and run apt-get dist-upgrade. I follow Ubuntu's recommendations, but I've always wondered what the magic difference between these two processes is. What, exactly, does do-release-upgrade do, on say an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10? (Examples from other releases welcome.)

  • Change Gnome popup menus / combo boxes mouse click behaviour

    - by pingw33n
Whe right clicking in windows that have popup menus you can hold mouse button, wait until popup appears and release above the desired item to click it. This is different from Windows that have popup appear only on mouse release. And it leads to accident menu item clicking sometimes. Looks like the issue is there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/320259, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=575071. Is there's any way to change popup appearance time at least?

  • Patches after updating to ESX 4 U1

    - by haimbeyhan
Hi, I have one server with ESX 4 U1 installed through downloaded dvd from Vmware site. How do I know what patches I need to install? When I check the Patch Repository, i see that the release date for the update is Dec.9,2009. Does it mean that I don't need any patches before that date? Should I install all the patches after the release date? Thanks, Haim Beyhan

  • Recommend alternative to tripwire?

    - by CarpeNoctem
Looking for a host-based IDS comparable to tripwire. Preferably one that allows centralized management. Right now I use tripwire and though it works management and reporting through a central server would be ideal. I'm looking for recommendations that have actually been used and not just google results. Thanks!

  • Wiki software for business plans. Which one?

    - by gAMBOOKa
I need to recommend a wiki software for use by our higher management. They're spread out globally and would like various collaborative tools to discuss, edit, manage these business plans. Lotsa business plans, most get rejected but for some reason, they enjoy doing it. Also, did I mention higher management? As in, not very technically competent. What would you recommend?

  • How does Slackware handle security updates?

    - by Abtin Forouzandeh
I use a distribution that uses apt for package management and am accustomed to letting apt grab a list of package changes. I generally let it install all the needed security updates. I've been considering migrating to slackware. However, it seems slackware does not have a package management system. How would I learn about new security updates? Is the only way to monitor http://www.slackware.com/security/?

  • how do I start GIT daemon automatically under CentOS 4.8 ?

    - by ck2
Apparently my server is running CentOS 4.8 with Cpanel uname -a 2.6.9-023stab048.6-enterprise #1 SMP MSK 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 4.8 (Final) I'd prefer to install it as a service but I cannot seem to install "yum git-daemon" there is no package available for CentOS 4.8 (when I try to include another repos for it I get too many dependency failures) So what's the easiest way to just start it? Typically this is how I do it from CLI git daemon --detach --user=git --group=git Thanks for any help!

  • Buffer requests in nginx while a symlink switches on backend

    - by Quintin Par
In a release deployment I would like to buffer client requests that come to nginx(in reverse proxy) mode to be buffered for possibily 1-2 seconds while a pdsh request is sent to switch symlinks on the back end server to /var/www/html/current . After the switch is complete, I would want to release the buffering while avoiding a herd clash. Is this possible in nginx? Can someone help? Edit: The idea is not to loose requests and from nginx forums I've come to know that retries can sometimes results in CPU spins

  • Can anyone recommend a good BSS/OSS platform for a voip provider?

    - by john unkas
We are a voip startup and want to launch a voip service, while we have the call control platform (broadworks) we are wondering what BSS/OSS platform to use. Our options are to buy a turnkey solution (if it exists) or else to glue together opensource and commerical offerings to create a complete solution. BSS components we're looking for are identity management, billing, rating, product catalogue, subscription management, reporting, etc..

  • No scheduled tasks in Esxi 5?

    - by Jeroen Jacobs
I'm using the free version of VMWare's ESXi 5.1.0. I'm logged in as root in the vSphere client, and I want to create some scheduled tasks. According to the documentation, I should go to "Home"="Management"="Scheduled tasks". However, when I go to "Home", I only have "Inventory" and "Administration". There is no "Management" section. Is this a limitation of the free version (I doubt it, but still), or am I missing the obvious here?

  • Database server size

    - by David
I received a recommendation from my hosting provider noting that a general rule in production server management is to ensure that the memory on your database server is larger than the size of your total database. Our database is 1800mb (and growing) and we're being told to purchase a 2GB server. This didn't sit right with me, but I'm not an expert in production server management. We're running a MySQL db with mostly InnoDB tables and some MyISAMs. Thanks!

The file system under disk management now says RAW and that its healthy
