  • Encrypt/ Secure communication Android app <-> REST webservice

    I want to create a backend for my android app with Tapestry5 and this http://code.google.com/p/t5-restful-webservices/ plugin. The app will communicate with the server by calling REST methods both for registered users (that would be easy to secure I guess) as well as unregistered users. Now of course I don't want people to just call that webservice from a browser. How can I make sure that only my app can make calls to this backend?

I have an opportunity to design an API however I see fit, but I would like it to be easy to use for those accessing it.     Is there an easy way to convert an XMLType to a User Defined Type? I can convert the UDT to XMLType using the below. select SYS_XMLGEN(pUDT) into param2 from dual; I can't though, is find a function that takes that and turns it back into that UDT using the same mappings the SYS_XMLGEN used.

    From within Java, I am opening an Excel file with the default file handler (MS Excel, in this case :-) ) using the method described in this stackoverflow question: Desktop dt = Desktop.getDesktop(); dt.open(new File(filename)); However, the Excel program doesn't get the focus. Is there any easy way to do so? Edit: There is a related stackoverflow question for C#, but I didn't find any similar Java method.

  • Setting up httpd.conf / mod_rewrite to auto-load codeigniter?

    I'm sorry to ask this here, as I'm sure the solution is fairly easy but for the life of my I can't setup httpd.conf on my apache server to automatically load the code_igniter files. Instead I'm having to go into the folder itself localhost/trunk/etc/etc until I get index.php - which messes with some of the relative paths (our backend coder is gone for the week so I can't ask him, but he has already setup the rewrite rules on our development server).

If I just do gem uninstall rails, I still have actionmailer (3.0.0.beta3) actionpack (3.0.0.beta3) activemodel (3.0.0.beta3) activerecord (3.0.0.beta3) activeresource (3.0.0.beta3) activesupport (3.0.0.beta3) which I want to get rid of.     Is there an easy way to use emacs key-bindings when you are using a not-English (Russian) keyboard layout? Whenever an international layout is on, all keystrokes are interpreted literally, M-? instead of M-a. As a result I can't use commands. It would also be nice if Linux could interpret non-prefixed and shift-prefixed keys according according to an international layout, while keeping the rest English.

    I have an application that is running on .net 3.5 SP1 and that is supposed to check if .net 4 is installed. Actually, I'm more interested if MSBuild v4 is installed, which would boil down to a simple File.Exists(@"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\msbuild.exe"); However, apart from the fragility of the 4.0.30319 Version (and the Windir, but that's easy to solve), I wonder if there is a more appropriate way, like an API?

    Hi, ok it is 'easy' to make jna wrapper solution for mapping exported functions within dll using jna: long f1(int x), just int long f2(char* y), just char[] but how to deal with long f3(char** z) ? I need f3's result(long) as well as z value on java side. Please don't say cpp code should be rewritten to avoid this:-)
