  • How to calculate the maximum block length in C of a binary number

    - by user1664272
    I want to reiterate the fact that I am not asking for direct code to my problem rather than wanting information on how to reach that solution. I asked a problem earlier about counting specific integers in binary code. Now I would like to ask how one comes about counting the maximum block length within binary code. I honestly just want to know where to get started and what exactly the question means by writing code to figure out the "Maximum block length" of an inputted integers binary representation. Ex: Input 456 Output: 111001000 Number of 1's: 4 Maximum Block Length: ? Here is my code so far for reference if you need to see where I'm coming from. #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { int integer; // number to be entered by user int i, b, n; unsigned int ones; printf("Please type in a decimal integer\n"); // prompt fflush(stdout); scanf("%d", &integer); // read an integer if(integer < 0) { printf("Input value is negative!"); // if integer is less than fflush(stdout); return; // zero, print statement } else{ printf("Binary Representation:\n", integer); fflush(stdout);} //if integer is greater than zero, print statement for(i = 31; i >= 0; --i) //code to convert inputted integer to binary form { b = integer >> i; if(b&1){ printf("1"); fflush(stdout); } else{ printf("0"); fflush(stdout); } } printf("\n"); fflush(stdout); ones = 0; //empty value to store how many 1's are in binary code while(integer) //while loop to count number of 1's within binary code { ++ones; integer &= integer - 1; } printf("Number of 1's in Binary Representation: %d\n", ones); // prints number fflush(stdout); //of ones in binary code printf("Maximum Block Length: \n"); fflush(stdout); printf("\n"); fflush(stdout); return 0; }//end function main

  • How to fix the position of the button in applet

    - by user1609804
    I'm trying to make an applet that has a buttons in the right, where each button is corresponding to a certain pokemon. I already did it, but the buttons isn't fixed.they keep following the mouse. please help. This is my code: import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import java.io.*; import javax.imageio.ImageIO; import java.applet.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.*; public class choosePokemon extends Applet implements ActionListener { private int countPokemon; private int[] storePokemon; private int x,y; //this will be the x and y coordinate of the button BufferedImage Picture; public int getCountPokemon(){ //for other class that needs how many pokemon return countPokemon; } public int[] getStoredPokemon(){ //for other class that needs the pokemon return storePokemon; } public void init(){ x=0;y=0; try{ Picture = ImageIO.read(new File("pokeball.png")); } catch( IOException ex ){ } } public void paint( Graphics g ){ pokemon display = new pokemon(); // to access the pokemon attributes in class pokemon ButtonGroup group = new ButtonGroup(); //create a button group for( int a=0;a<16;a++ ){ // for loop in displaying the buttons of every pokemon(one pokemon, one button) display.choose( a ); //calls the method choose in which accepts an integer from 0-15 and saves the attributes of the pokemon corresponding to the integer JButton pokemonButton = new JButton( display.getName() ); // creates the button pokemonButton.setActionCommand( display.getName() ); // isasave sa actioncommand yung name ng kung ano mang pokemon pokemonButton.addActionListener(this); //isasama yung bagong gawang button sa listener para malaman kung na-click yung button pokemonButton.setBounds( x,y,50,23 ); group.add( pokemonButton ); //eto naman yung mag-aadd sa bagong gawang button sa isang group na puro buttons(button ng mga pokemon) y+=23; if( a==7 ){ x+=50; y=0; } add( pokemonButton ); //will add the button to the applet } g.drawImage( Picture, 120, 20, null ); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { try{ //displays the picture of the selected pokemon Picture = ImageIO.read(new File( "pokemon/" + e.getActionCommand() + ".png" )); } catch( IOException ex ){ } } public boolean chosen( int PChoice ){ //this will check if the chosen pokemon is already the player's pokemon boolean flag = false; for( int x=0; x<countPokemon && !flag ;x++ ){ if( storePokemon[x]==PChoice ){ flag = true; } } return flag; }

  • MATLAB image corner coordinates & referncing to cell arrays

    - by James
    Hi, I am having some problems comparing the elements in different cell arrays. The context of this problem is that I am using the bwboundaries function in MATLAB to trace the outline of an image. The image is of a structural cross section and I am trying to find if there is continuity throughout the section (i.e. there is only one outline produced by the bwboundaries command). Having done this and found where the is more than one section traced (i.e. it is not continuous), I have used the cornermetric command to find the corners of each section. The code I have is: %% Define the structural section as a binary matrix (Image is an I-section with the web broken) bw(20:40,50:150) = 1; bw(160:180,50:150) = 1; bw(20:60,95:105) = 1; bw(140:180,95:105) = 1; Trace = bw; [B] = bwboundaries(Trace,'noholes'); %Traces the outer boundary of each section L = length(B); % Finds number of boundaries if L > 1 disp('Multiple boundaries') % States whether more than one boundary found end %% Obtain perimeter coordinates for k=1:length(B) %For all the boundaries perim = B{k}; %Obtains perimeter coordinates (as a 2D matrix) from the cell array end %% Find the corner positions C = cornermetric(bw); Areacorners = find(C == max(max(C))) % Finds the corner coordinates of each boundary [rowindexcorners,colindexcorners] = ind2sub(size(Newgeometry),Areacorners) % Convert corner coordinate indexes into subcripts, to give x & y coordinates (i.e. the same format as B gives) %% Put these corner coordinates into a cell array Cornerscellarray = cell(length(rowindexcorners),1); % Initialises cell array of zeros for i =1:numel(rowindexcorners) Cornerscellarray(i) = {[rowindexcorners(i) colindexcorners(i)]}; %Assigns the corner indicies into the cell array %This is done so the cell arrays can be compared end for k=1:length(B) %For all the boundaries found perim = B{k}; %Obtains coordinates for each perimeter Z = perim; % Initialise the matrix containing the perimeter corners Sectioncellmatrix = cell(length(rowindexcorners),1); for i =1:length(perim) Sectioncellmatrix(i) = {[perim(i,1) perim(i,2)]}; end for i = 1:length(perim) if Sectioncellmatrix(i) ~= Cornerscellarray Sectioncellmatrix(i) = []; %Gets rid of the elements that are not corners, but keeps them associated with the relevent section end end end This creates an error in the last for loop. Is there a way I can check whether each cell of the array (containing an x and y coordinate) is equal to any pair of coordinates in cornercellarray? I know it is possible with matrices to compare whether a certain element matches any of the elements in another matrix. I want to be able to do the same here, but for the pair of coordinates within the cell array. The reason I don't just use the cornercellarray cell array itself, is because this lists all the corner coordinates and does not associate them with a specific traced boundary.

  • How do compare dates when one of those are in string format in android

    - by Raj
    I am very much new to android so need some good help with a code example. I am getting a date in form of string from a server in the following format 2012-08-17 00:00:00 I want to compare this string with current date to find the difference between the dates in the form of year, months and days... I tried playing around it in the following code Date currentDate = new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()); Log.v("@@@@@@@@@","Current Date: " + currentDate); Date passDate = new SimpleDateFormat().parse(passDateString); Log.v("@@@@@@@@@","Pass Date: " + passDate); dateDifference = passDate.compareTo(currentDate); but it returned with following exception 04-15 12:08:29.101: V/@@@@@@@@@(1161): Current Date: Sun Apr 15 12:08:29 GMT+01:00 2012 04-15 12:08:29.101: W/System.err(1161): java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: 2012-08-17 00:00:00 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.text.DateFormat.parse(DateFormat.java:645) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at org.apis.PassesListItemAdapter.getView(PassesListItemAdapter.java:77) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:1315) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1727) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:652) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:709) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1580) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1147) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.RelativeLayout.onLayout(RelativeLayout.java:909) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:333) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:333) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7034) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1049) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1744) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:144) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4937) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:868) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:626) 04-15 12:08:29.111: W/System.err(1161): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) I am stuck... please help Raj

  • Algorithm to split an article without breaking the reading flow or HTML code

    - by Victor Stanciu
    Hello, I have a very large database of articles, of varying lengths. The articles have HTML elements in them. I have to insert some ads (simple <script> elements) in the body of each article when it is displayed (I know, I hate ads that interrupt my reading too). Now, the problem is that each ad must be inserted at about the same position in each article. The simplest solution is to simply split the article on a fixed number of characters (without breaking words), and insert the ad code. This, however, runs the risk of inserting the ad in the middle of a HTML tag. I could go the regex way, but I was thinking about the following solution, using JS: Establish a character count threshold. For example, "the add should be inserted at about 200 words" Set accepted deviations in each direction, say -20, +20 characters. Loop through each text node inside the article, and while doing so, keep count of the total number of characters so far Once the count exceeds the threshold, make the following decision: 4.1. If count exceeds the threshold by a value lower that the positive accepted deviation (for example, 17 characters), insert the ad code just after the current text node. 4.2. If the count is greater than the sum of the threshold and the deviation, roll back to the previous text node, and make the same decision, only this time use the previous count and check if it's lower than the difference between the threshold and the deviation, and if not, insert the ad between the current node and the previous one. 4.3. If the 4.1 and 4.2 fail (which means that the previous node reached a too low character count and the current node a too high one), insert the ad after whatever character count is needed inside the current element. I know it's convoluted, but it's the first thing out of my mind and it has the advantage that, by trying to insert the ad between text nodes, perhaps it will not break the flow of the article as bad as it would if I would just stick it in (like the final 4.3 case) Here is some pseudo-code I put together, I don't trust my english-explaining skills: threshold = 200 deviation = 20 current_count = 0 for each node in article_nodes { previous_count = current_count current_count = current_count + node.length if current_count < threshold { continue // next interation } if current_count > threshold + deviation { if previous_count < threshdold - deviation { // insert ad in current node } else { // insert ad between the current and previous nodes } } else { // insert ad after the current node } break; } Am I over-complicating stuff, or am I missing a simpler, more elegant solution?

  • Get value of element in Multi-Dimensional Array

    - by George
    Here is my foreach loop to get at the values from a multi-dimensional array $_coloredvariables = get_post_meta( $post->ID, '_coloredvariables', true ); foreach ($_coloredvariables as $key => $value) { var_dump($value); } Which outputs this: array 'label' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'size' => string 'small' (length=5) 'displaytype' => string 'square' (length=6) 'values' => array 'dark-night-angel' => array 'type' => string 'Image' (length=5) 'color' => string '#2c4065' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'forest-green' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string '#285d5f' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'voilet' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string '#6539c9' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'canary-yellow' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string 'grey' (length=4) 'image' => string '' (length=0) And then to only get the values array I can do this: foreach ($_coloredvariables as $key => $value) { var_dump($value['values']); } which outputs this: array 'dark-night-angel' => array 'type' => string 'Image' (length=5) 'color' => string '#2c4065' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'forest-green' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string '#285d5f' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'voilet' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string '#6539c9' (length=7) 'image' => string '' (length=0) 'canary-yellow' => array 'type' => string 'Color' (length=5) 'color' => string 'grey' (length=4) 'image' => string '' (length=0) What I can't figure out is how to get these elements in the array structure "dark-night-angel", "forest-green", "voilet", "canary-yellow" Without using specific names: var_dump($value['values']['dark-night-angel']) Something that is more dynamic, of course this doesn't work: var_dump($value['values'][0][0]); thanks

  • Activity gets killed while executing the camera intent

    - by BlackRider
    In my app I call the system camera to take a picture, and then handle the result in onActivityResult. You know, the usual. It used to work, but now my calling activity gets killed while I'm taking the picture. Specifically, onDestroy() is called on my activity right after I press the camera shutter. The photo does get taken & saved (I've checked that the file gets written on the SD card). After I accept the photo, instead of returning to the calling activity and invoking onActivityResult, the previous activity in the activity stack gets called. I see no exceptions in the logcat. My custom exception handler doesn't get called. If it matters, my app also includes a service that listens to GPS updates, but I unregister all the receivers in onPause(). Here's the call stack for MyCallingActivity.onDestroy(): Thread [<1> main] (Suspended (breakpoint at line 303 in NewPlaceDetailsActivity)) NewPlaceDetailsActivity.onDestroy() line: 303 ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2663 ActivityThread.handleDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2694 ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread, IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 117 BinderProxy(ActivityThread$H).handleMessage(Message) line: 968 ActivityThread$H(Handler).dispatchMessage(Message) line: 99 Looper.loop() line: 130 ActivityThread.main(String[]) line: 3687 Method.invokeNative(Object, Object[], Class, Class[], Class, int, boolean) line: not available [native method] Method.invoke(Object, Object...) line: 507 ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run() line: 842 ZygoteInit.main(String[]) line: 600 NativeStart.main(String[]) line: not available [native method] This is how I start the camera activity, in case you're wondering: protected void startCamera() { createPhotoDirsIfNeeded(); String fileName = "temp.jpg"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName); m_capturedImageUri = getContentResolver().insert(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); m_photoFileName = APP_PHOTO_PATH + "/" + DateFormat.format(DATE_FORMAT, Calendar.getInstance().getTime()) + ".jpg"; File picFile = new File(m_photoFileName); if(picFile.exists()) { picFile.delete(); } // start the camera activity Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(picFile)); startActivityForResult(intent, IntentHelper.REQUEST_TAKE_PHOTO); } How can I find out why does my activity get killed, AND removed from the stack instead of being created again?

  • Correct usage of socket_select().

    - by Mark Tomlin
    What is the correct way to use socket_select within PHP to send and receive data? I have a connection to the server that allows for both TCP & UDP packet connections, I am utilizing both. Within these connections I'm both sending and receiving packets on the same port, but the TCP packet will be sent on one port (29999) and UDP will be sent on another port (30000). The transmission type will be that of AF_INET. The IP address will be loopback 127.0.0.1. I have many questions on how to create a socket connection within this scenario. For example, is it better to use socket_create_pair to make the connection, or use just socket_create followed by socket_connect, and then implement socket_select? There is a chance that no data will be sent from the server to the client, and it is up to the client to maintain the connection. This will be done by utilizing the time out function within the socket_select call. Should no data be sent within the time limit, the socket_select function will break and a keep alive packet can then be sent. The following script is of the client. // Create $TCP = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, SOL_TCP); $UDP = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, SOL_UDP); // Misc $isAlive = TRUE; $UDPPort = 30000; define('ISP_ISI', 1); // Connect socket_connect($TCP, '127.0.0.1', 29999); socket_connect($UDP, '127.0.0.1', $UDPPort); // Construct Parameters $recv = array($TCP, $UDP); $null = NULL; // Make The Packet to Send. $packet = pack('CCCxSSxCSa16a16', 44, ISP_ISI, 1, $UDPPort, 0, '!', 0, 'AdminPass', 'SocketSelect'); // Send ISI (InSim Init) Packet socket_write($TCP, $packet); /* Main Program Loop */ while ($isAlive == TRUE) { // Socket Select $sock = socket_select($recv, $null, $null, 5); // Check Status if ($sock === FALSE) $isAlive = FALSE; # Error else if ($sock > 0) # How does one check to find what socket changed? else # Something else happed, don't know what as it's not in the documentation, Could this be our timeout getting tripped? }

  • how to animate 2 surfaces in Matlab?

    - by Kate
    Hi everyone, I've written this code which makes an animation of 2 ellipsoids. Parameter k1 of these ellipsoids must depend on time (so they'd move asynchronously), but I need to animate them in one figure. Can I use loop for it or is it better to use timer & some kind of callback functions? The second problem - I need to move inner ellipsoid so they would have one common side. How can I do this? a=5; b=a; c=10; u = (0:0.05*pi:2*pi)'; v = [0:0.05*pi:2*pi]; X = a*sin(u)*cos(v); Y = a*sin(u)*sin(v); Z = c*cos(u)*ones(size(v)); Z(Z0)=0; % cut upper V1=4/3*pi*a*b*c; d=1/2; e=2^d; a2=a/e; b2=a/e; c2=c; V2=4/3*pi*a2*b2*c2; X2 = a2*sin(u)*cos(v);%-2.5; Y2 = b2*sin(u)*sin(v); Z2 = c2*cos(u)*ones(size(v));%+0.25; Z2(Z20)=0; % cut h=1/3; for j = 1:20 k1=(sin(pi*j/20)+0.5)^h; a=a*k1; c=c*k1; X = a*sin(u)*cos(v); Y = a*sin(u)*sin(v); Z = c*cos(u)*ones(size(v)); Z(Z0)=0; a2=a2*k1; b2=a2*k1; c2=c2*k1; X2 = a2*sin(u)*cos(v)+5;%-2.5; Y2 = b2*sin(u)*sin(v); Z2 = c2*cos(u)*ones(size(v));%+0.25; Z2(Z20)=0; hS1=surf(X,Y,Z); alpha(.11) hold on hS2=surf(X2,Y2,Z2); hold off axis([-20 20 -20 20 -20 20]); F(j) = getframe; end movie(F,4)

  • StringBuffer wont read whole stream into a string (JAVA/Android)

    - by Levara
    Hi all! I'm making an android program that retrieves content of a webpage using HttpURLConnection. I'm new to both Java and Android. Problem is: Reader reads whole page source, but in the last while iteration it doesn't append to stringBuffer that last part. Using debbuger I have determined that, in the last loop iteration, string buff is created, but stringBuffer just doesnt append it. I need to parse retrieved content. Is there any better way to handle the content for parsing than using strings. I've read on numerous other sites that string size in Java is limited only by available heap size. I've tried with StringBuilder too. Anyone know what could be the problem. Btw feel free to suggest any improvements to the code. Thanks! URL u; try { u = new URL("http://feeds.timesonline.co.uk/c/32313/f/440134/index.rss"); HttpURLConnection c = (HttpURLConnection) u.openConnection(); c.setRequestProperty("User-agent","Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)"); c.setRequestMethod("GET"); c.setDoOutput(true); c.setReadTimeout(3000); c.connect(); StringBuffer stringBuffer = new StringBuffer(""); InputStream in = c.getInputStream(); InputStreamReader inp = new InputStreamReader(in); BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(inp); char[] buffer = new char[3072]; int len1 = 0; while ( (len1 = reader.read(buffer)) != -1 ) { String buff = new String(buffer,0,len1); stringBuffer.append(buff); } String stranica = new String(stringBuffer); c.disconnect(); reader.close(); inp.close(); in.close();

  • Precise explanation of JavaScript <-> DOM circular reference issue

    - by Joey Adams
    One of the touted advantages of jQuery.data versus raw expando properties (arbitrary attributes you can assign to DOM nodes) is that jQuery.data is "safe from circular references and therefore free from memory leaks". An article from Google titled "Optimizing JavaScript code" goes into more detail: The most common memory leaks for web applications involve circular references between the JavaScript script engine and the browsers' C++ objects' implementing the DOM (e.g. between the JavaScript script engine and Internet Explorer's COM infrastructure, or between the JavaScript engine and Firefox XPCOM infrastructure). It lists two examples of circular reference patterns: DOM element → event handler → closure scope → DOM DOM element → via expando → intermediary object → DOM element However, if a reference cycle between a DOM node and a JavaScript object produces a memory leak, doesn't this mean that any non-trivial event handler (e.g. onclick) will produce such a leak? I don't see how it's even possible for an event handler to avoid a reference cycle, because the way I see it: The DOM element references the event handler. The event handler references the DOM (either directly or indirectly). In any case, it's almost impossible to avoid referencing window in any interesting event handler, short of writing a setInterval loop that reads actions from a global queue. Can someone provide a precise explanation of the JavaScript ↔ DOM circular reference problem? Things I'd like clarified: What browsers are effected? A comment in the jQuery source specifically mentions IE6-7, but the Google article suggests Firefox is also affected. Are expando properties and event handlers somehow different concerning memory leaks? Or are both of these code snippets susceptible to the same kind of memory leak? // Create an expando that references to its own element. var elem = document.getElementById('foo'); elem.myself = elem; // Create an event handler that references its own element. var elem = document.getElementById('foo'); elem.onclick = function() { elem.style.display = 'none'; }; If a page leaks memory due to a circular reference, does the leak persist until the entire browser application is closed, or is the memory freed when the window/tab is closed?

  • multithreading with database

    - by Darsin
    I am looking out for a strategy to utilize multithreading (probably asynchronous delegates) to do a synchronous operation. I am new to multithreading so i will outline my scenario first. This synchronous operation right now is done for one set of data (portfolio) based on the the parameters provided. The (psudeo-code) implementation is given below: public DataSet DoTests(int fundId, DateTime portfolioDate) { // Get test results for the portfolio // Call the database adapter method, which in turn is a stored procedure, // which in turns runs a series of "rule" stored procs and fills a local temp table and returns it back. DataSet resultsDataSet = GetTestResults(fundId, portfolioDate); try { // Do some local processing on the results DoSomeProcessing(resultsDataSet); // Save the results in Test, TestResults and TestAllocations tables in a transaction. // Sets a global transaction which is provided to all the adapter methods called below // It is defined in the Base class StartTransaction("TestTransaction"); // Save Test and get a testId int testId = UpdateTest(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // Update testId in the other tables in the dataset UpdateTestId(resultsDataSet, testId); // Update TestResults UpdateTestResults(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // Update TestAllocations UpdateTestAllocations(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // It is defined in the base class CommitTransaction("TestTransaction"); } catch { RollbackTransaction("TestTransaction"); } return resultsDataSet; } Now the requirement is to do it for multiple set of data. One way would be to call the above DoTests() method in a loop and get the data. I would prefer doing it in parallel. But there are certain catches: StartTransaction() method creates a connection (and transaction) every time it is called. All the underlying database tables, procedures are the same for each call of DoTests(). (obviously). Thus my question are: Will using multithreading anyway improve performance? What are the chances of deadlock especially when new TestId's are being created and the Tests, TestResults and TestAllocations are being saved? How can these deadlocked be handled? Is there any other more efficient way of doing the above operation apart from looping over the DoTests() method repeatedly?

  • Android - cant read TXT files from SDcard on real mashine?

    - by JustMe
    Hello! When I run the code bellow in the virtual android (1.5) it works well, TextSwitcher shows first 80 chars from each txt file from /sdcard/documents/ , but when I run it on my Samsung Galaxy i7500 (1.6) there are no contents in TextSwitcher, however in LogCat there are FileNames of txt files. My Code: public void getTxtFiles(){ //Scan /sdcard/documents and put .txt files in array File TxtFiles[] String path = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().toString()+"/documents/"; String files; File folder = new File(path); if(folder.exists()==false){if (!folder.mkdirs()) { Log.e("TAG", "Create dir in sdcard failed"); return; }} else{ File listOfFiles[] = folder.listFiles(); for (int i = 0; i < listOfFiles.length; i++) { if (listOfFiles[i].isFile()) { files = listOfFiles[i].getName(); if (files.endsWith(".txt") || files.endsWith(".TXT")) { if((files.length()-1)>i){resizeArray(TxtFiles, files.length()+10);} TxtFiles[i]=listOfFiles[i]; System.out.println(TxtFiles[i]); } } }} } private void updateCounter(int Pozicija) { if(Pozicija<0){Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.LastTxt, 5).show(); mCounter++;} else if(TxtFiles[mCounter]!=null){ TextToShow = getContents(TxtFiles[mCounter]); if(TextToShow.length()>80)TextToShow=TextToShow.substring(0, 80); mSwitcher.setText(TextToShow); System.out.println(Pozicija); } else mCounter--; } static public String getContents(File aFile) { //...checks on aFile are elided StringBuilder contents = new StringBuilder(); try { //use buffering, reading one line at a time //FileReader always assumes default encoding is OK! BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(aFile)); try { String line = null; //not declared within while loop /* * readLine is a bit quirky : * it returns the content of a line MINUS the newline. * it returns null only for the END of the stream. * it returns an empty String if two newlines appear in a row. */ while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){ contents.append(line); contents.append(System.getProperty("line.separator")); } } finally { input.close(); } } catch (IOException ex){ ex.printStackTrace(); } return contents.toString(); } And I am able to write contents of those files though LogCat! Any ideas?

  • Help with method logic in Java, hw

    - by Crystal
    I have a Loan class that in its printPayment method, it prints the amortization table of a loan for a hw assignment. We are also to implement a print first payment method, and a print last payment method. Since my calculation is done in the printPayment method, I didn't know how I could get the value in the first or last iteration of the loop and print that amount out. One way I can think of is to write a new method that might return that value, but I wasn't sure if there was a better way. Here is my code: public abstract class Loan { public void setClient(Person client) { this.client = client; } public Person getClient() { return client; } public void setLoanId() { loanId = nextId; nextId++; } public int getLoanId() { return loanId; } public void setInterestRate(double interestRate) { this.interestRate = interestRate; } public double getInterestRate() { return interestRate; } public void setLoanLength(int loanLength) { this.loanLength = loanLength; } public int getLoanLength() { return loanLength; } public void setLoanAmount(double loanAmount) { this.loanAmount = loanAmount; } public double getLoanAmount() { return loanAmount; } public void printPayments() { double monthlyInterest; double monthlyPrincipalPaid; double newPrincipal; int paymentNumber = 1; double monthlyInterestRate = interestRate / 1200; double monthlyPayment = loanAmount * (monthlyInterestRate) / (1 - Math.pow((1 + monthlyInterestRate),( -1 * loanLength))); System.out.println("Payment Number | Interest | Principal | Loan Balance"); // amortization table while (loanAmount >= 0) { monthlyInterest = loanAmount * monthlyInterestRate; monthlyPrincipalPaid = monthlyPayment - monthlyInterest; newPrincipal = loanAmount - monthlyPrincipalPaid; loanAmount = newPrincipal; System.out.printf("%d, %.2f, %.2f, %.2f", paymentNumber++, monthlyInterest, monthlyPrincipalPaid, loanAmount); } } /* //method to print first payment public double getFirstPayment() { } method to print last payment public double getLastPayment() { }*/ private Person client; private int loanId; private double interestRate; private int loanLength; private double loanAmount; private static int nextId = 1; } Thanks!

  • PHP array pointer craziness

    - by JMan
    I'm trying to create a "GetCurrentLevel" method that takes a point value as an input and returns what "Level" that corresponds to. I'm storing the Level = Points mapping in an array, but the array pointer is not moving logically when I use it a foreach loop. I've added echo statements for debugging. Here's my class definition: class Levels extends Model { protected $_map = array ( 'None' => 0, 'Bronze' => 50, 'Silver' => 200, 'Gold' => 500 ); public function __construct() { parent::__construct(); } public function GetCurrentLevel($points) { foreach ($this->_map as $name => $threshold) { echo "Level Name: $name<br/>"; echo "Level Threshold: $threshold<br/>"; echo "Current Level: " . key($this->_map) . "<br/>"; echo "Current Threshold: " . current($this->_map) . "<br/>"; if ($points < $threshold) /* Threshold is now above the points, so need to go back one level */ { $previousThreshold = prev($this->_map); echo "Previous Threshold: $previousThreshold<br/>"; echo "Final Level: " . key($this->_map) . "<br/>"; return key($this->_map); } echo "Go to next level <br/>"; } } And here is what I see when I call GetCurrentLevel(60): Level Name: None Level Threshold: 0 Current Level: Bronze //* Looks like foreach immediately moves the array pointer *// Current Threshold: 50 Go to next level Level Name: Bronze Level Threshold: 50 Current Level: Bronze //* WTF? Why hasn't the array pointer moved? *// Current Threshold: 50 Go to next level Level Name: Silver Level Threshold: 200 Current Level: Bronze //* WTF? Why hasn't the array pointer moved? *// Current Threshold: 50 Previous Threshold: 0 Final Level: None But the "Final Level" should be 'Bronze' since 60 points is above the 50 points needed for a Bronze medal, but below the 200 points needed for a Silver medal. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for your help!

  • C++ using cdb_read returns extra characters on some reads

    - by Moe Be
    Hi All, I am using the following function to loop through a couple of open CDB hash tables. Sometimes the value for a given key is returned along with an additional character (specifically a CTRL-P (a DLE character/0x16/0o020)). I have checked the cdb key/value pairs with a couple of different utilities and none of them show any additional characters appended to the values. I get the character if I use cdb_read() or cdb_getdata() (the commented out code below). If I had to guess I would say I am doing something wrong with the buffer I create to get the result from the cdb functions. Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated. char* HashReducer::getValueFromDb(const string &id, vector <struct cdb *> &myHashFiles) { unsigned char hex_value[BUFSIZ]; size_t hex_len; //construct a real hex (not ascii-hex) value to use for database lookups atoh(id,hex_value,&hex_len); char *value = NULL; vector <struct cdb *>::iterator my_iter = myHashFiles.begin(); vector <struct cdb *>::iterator my_end = myHashFiles.end(); try { //while there are more databases to search and we have not found a match for(; my_iter != my_end && !value ; my_iter++) { //cerr << "\n looking for this MD5:" << id << " hex(" << hex_value << ") \n"; if (cdb_find(*my_iter, hex_value, hex_len)){ //cerr << "\n\nI found the key " << id << " and it is " << cdb_datalen(*my_iter) << " long\n\n"; value = (char *)malloc(cdb_datalen(*my_iter)); cdb_read(*my_iter,value,cdb_datalen(*my_iter),cdb_datapos(*my_iter)); //value = (char *)cdb_getdata(*my_iter); //cerr << "\n\nThe value is:" << value << " len is:" << strlen(value)<< "\n\n"; }; } } catch (...){} return value; }

  • What (tf) are the secrets behind PDF memory allocation (CGPDFDocumentRef)

    - by Kai
    For a PDF reader I want to prepare a document by taking 'screenshots' of each page and save them to disc. First approach is CGPDFDocumentRef document = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithURL((CFURLRef) someURL); for (int i = 1; i<=pageCount; i++) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc]init]; CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(document, i); ...//getting + manipulating graphics context etc. ... CGContextDrawPDFPage(context, page); ... UIImage *resultingImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); ...//saving the image to disc [pool drain]; } CGPDFDocumentRelease(document); This results in a lot of memory which seems not to be released after the first run of the loop (preparing the 1st document), but no more unreleased memory in additional runs: MEMORY BEFORE: 6 MB MEMORY DURING 1ST DOC: 40 MB MEMORY AFTER 1ST DOC: 25 MB MEMORY DURING 2ND DOC: 40 MB MEMORY AFTER 2ND DOC: 25 MB .... Changing the code to for (int i = 1; i<=pageCount; i++) { CGPDFDocumentRef document = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithURL((CFURLRef) someURL); NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc]init]; CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(document, i); ...//getting + manipulating graphics context etc. ... CGContextDrawPDFPage(context, page); ... UIImage *resultingImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); ...//saving the image to disc CGPDFDocumentRelease(document); [pool drain]; } changes the memory usage to MEMORY BEFORE: 6 MB MEMORY DURING 1ST DOC: 9 MB MEMORY AFTER 1ST DOC: 7 MB MEMORY DURING 2ND DOC: 9 MB MEMORY AFTER 2ND DOC: 7 MB .... but is obviously a step backwards in performance. When I start reading a PDF (later in time, different thread) in the first case no more memory is allocated (staying at 25 MB), while in the second case memory goes up to 20 MB (from 7). In both cases, when I remove the CGContextDrawPDFPage(context, page); line memory is (nearly) constant at 6 MB during and after all preparations of documents. Can anybody explain whats going on there?

  • Converting Multiple files to zip and saving them in ownCloud

    - by user1055380
    I wanted to convert an array with some css, js and html files into a zip file and save them in ownCloud (it has it's own framework but it's knowledge is not required.) What I am saving is an infinite loop of zip files, as in, a zip inside a zip so I can't even check that the code is working correctly or not. Please help. Here is the link to the code. <?php /* creates a compressed zip file */ $filename = $_GET["filename"]; function create_zip($files = array(),$destination = '',$overwrite = false) { //if the zip file already exists and overwrite is false, return false if(file_exists($destination) && !$overwrite) { return false; } //vars $valid_files = array(); //if files were passed in... if(is_array($files)) { //cycle through each file foreach($files as $file => $local) { //make sure the file exists if(file_exists($file)) { $valid_files[$file] = $local; } } } //if we have good files... if(count($valid_files)) { //create the archive $zip = new ZipArchive(); if($zip->open($destination,$overwrite ? ZIPARCHIVE::OVERWRITE : ZIPARCHIVE::CREATE) !== true) { return false; } //add the files foreach($valid_files as $file => $local) { $zip->addFile($file, $local); } //debug //echo 'The zip archive contains ',$zip->numFiles,' files with a status of ',$zip->status; //close the zip -- done! $zip->close(); //check to make sure the file exists return file_exists($destination); } else { return false; } } $files_to_zip = array( 'apps/impressionist/css/mappingstyle.css' => '/css/mappingstyle.css', 'apps/impressionist/css/style.css' => '/css/style.css', 'apps/impressionist/js/jquery.js' => '/scripts/jquery.js', 'apps/impressionist/js/impress.js' => '/scripts/impress.js', realpath('apps/impressionist/output/'.$filename.'.html') => $filename.'.html' ); //if true, good; if false, zip creation failed $result = create_zip($files_to_zip, $filename.'.zip'); $save_file = OC_App::getStorage('impressionist'); $save_file ->file_put_contents($filename.'.zip',$files_to_zip); ?>

  • Why is this simple Mobile Form not closed when using the player

    - by ajhvdb
    Hi, I created this simple sample Form with the close button. Everything is working as expected when NOT using the Interop.WMPLib.dll I've seen other applications using this without problems but why isn't the Form process closed when I just add the line: SoundPlayer myPlayer = new SoundPlayer(); and of course dispose it: if (myPlayer != null) { myPlayer.Dispose(); myPlayer = null; } The Form closes but the debugger VS2008 is still active. The Form project and the dll are still active. If you send me an email to [email protected], I can send you the zipped project. Below is the class for the dll: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Threading; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using WMPLib; namespace WindowsMobile.Utilities { public delegate void SoundPlayerStateChanged(SoundPlayer sender, SoundPlayerState newState); public enum SoundPlayerState { Stopped, Playing, Paused, } public class SoundPlayer : IDisposable { [DllImport("coredll")] public extern static int waveOutSetVolume(int hwo, uint dwVolume); [DllImport("coredll")] public extern static int waveOutGetVolume(int hwo, out uint dwVolume); WindowsMediaPlayer myPlayer = new WindowsMediaPlayer(); public SoundPlayer() { myPlayer.uiMode = "invisible"; myPlayer.settings.volume = 100; } string mySoundLocation = string.Empty; public string SoundLocation { get { return mySoundLocation; } set { mySoundLocation = value; } } public void Pause() { myPlayer.controls.pause(); } public void PlayLooping() { Stop(); myPlayer.URL = mySoundLocation; myPlayer.settings.setMode("loop", true); } public int Volume { get { return myPlayer.settings.volume; } set { myPlayer.settings.volume = value; } } public void Play() { Stop(); myPlayer.URL = mySoundLocation; myPlayer.controls.play(); } public void Stop() { myPlayer.controls.stop(); myPlayer.close(); } #region IDisposable Members public void Dispose() { try { Stop(); } catch (Exception) { } // need this otherwise the process won't exit?! try { int ret = Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject(myPlayer); } catch (Exception) { } myPlayer = null; GC.Collect(); } #endregion } }

  • Function returning MYSQL_ROW

    - by Gabe
    I'm working on a system using lots of MySQL queries and I'm running into some memory problems I'm pretty sure have to do with me not handling pointers right... Basically, I've got something like this: MYSQL_ROW function1() { string query="SELECT * FROM table limit 1;"; MYSQL_ROW return_row; mysql_init(&connection); // "connection" is a global variable if (mysql_real_connect(&connection,HOST,USER,PASS,DB,0,NULL,0)){ if (mysql_query(&connection,query.c_str())) cout << "Error: " << mysql_error(&connection); else{ resp = mysql_store_result(&connection); //"resp" is also global if (resp) return_row = mysql_fetch_row(resp); mysql_free_result(resp); } mysql_close(&connection); }else{ cout << "connection failed\n"; if (mysql_errno(&connection)) cout << "Error: " << mysql_errno(&connection) << " " << mysql_error(&connection); } return return_row; } And function2(): MYSQL_ROW function2(MYSQL_ROW row) { string query = "select * from table2 where code = '" + string(row[2]) + "'"; MYSQL_ROW retorno; mysql_init(&connection); if (mysql_real_connect(&connection,HOST,USER,PASS,DB,0,NULL,0)){ if (mysql_query(&connection,query.c_str())) cout << "Error: " << mysql_error(&conexao); else{ // My "debugging" shows me at this point `row[2]` is already fubar resp = mysql_store_result(&connection); if (resp) return_row = mysql_fetch_row(resp); mysql_free_result(resp); } mysql_close(&connection); }else{ cout << "connection failed\n"; if (mysql_errno(&connection)) cout << "Error : " << mysql_errno(&connection) << " " << mysql_error(&connection); } return return_row; } And main() is an infinite loop basically like this: int main( int argc, char* args[] ){ MYSQL_ROW row = NULL; while (1) { row = function1(); if(row != NULL) function2(row); } } (variable and function names have been generalized to protect the innocent) But after the 3rd or 4th call to function2, that only uses row for reading, row starts losing its value coming to a segfault error... Anyone's got any ideas why? I'm not sure the amount of global variables in this code is any good, but I didn't design it and only got until tomorrow to fix and finish it, so workarounds are welcome! Thanks!

  • How to detect for screenreaders/MSAA without focusing the flash movie?

    - by utt73
    I am trying to detect for the presence of assistive technology using flash. When a Flash movie holding the actionscript below on frame 1 is loaded (and screenreader chatting to IE or Firefox over MSAA is active -- JAWS or NVDA), Accessibility.isActive() does not return "true" until the movie is focused. Well, actually not until some "event" happens. The movie will just sit there until I right-click it & show flash player's context menu... it seems only then Accessibility.isActive() returns true. Right-clicking is the only way I could get the movie to "wake up". How do I get the movie to react on it's own and detect MSAA? I've tried sending focus to it with Javascript... can a fake a right-click in javascript or actionscript? Or do you know the events a right click is firing in a flash movie -- possibly I can programatically make that event happen? My Actionscript: var x = 0; //check if Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) is active. //Setting takes 1-2 seconds to detect -- hence the setTimeout loop. function check508(){ if ( Accessibility.isActive() ) { //remove this later... just visual for testing logo.glogo.logotext.nextFrame(); //tell the page's javascript this is a 508 user getURL("javascript:setAccessible();") } else if (x<100) { trace ("There is currently no active accessibility aid. Attempt " + x); x++; setTimeout(check508,200); } } /* //FYI: only checks if browser can talk to MSAA, not that it is actually running. Sigh. if (System.capabilities.hasAccessibility) { logo.glogo.logotext.nextFrame(); getURL("javascript:setAccessible();") }; */ check508(); stop(); My HTML: <embed id="detector" width="220" height="100" quality="high" wmode="window" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="/images/detect.swf" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="">

Below is my surrogate code. sealed class VisionImageSerializationSurrogate : ISerializationSurrogate { public void GetObjectData(Object obj, SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context) { VisionImage image = (VisionImage)obj; byte[,] temp = image.ImageToArray().U8; info.AddValue("width", image.Width); info.AddValue("height", image.Height); info.AddValue("pixelvalues", temp, temp.GetType()); } public Object SetObjectData(Object obj, SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context, ISurrogateSelector selector) { VisionImage image = (VisionImage)obj; Int32 width = info.GetInt32("width"); Int32 height = info.GetInt32("height"); byte[,] temp = new byte[height, width]; temp = (byte[,])info.GetValue("pixelvalues", temp.GetType()); PixelValue2D tempPixels = new PixelValue2D(temp); image.ArrayToImage(tempPixels); return image; } } I've stepped through it to write to binary. It seems to be working fine (file is getting bigger as the images are captured). I tried to test it read the file back in. The values read back in are correct as far as the "info" object is concerned. When I get to the line image.ArrayToImage(tempPixels); It throws the "Cannot access a disposed object" exception. Upon further inspection, the object and the resulting image are both marked as disposed. My code behind the form spawns an "acquisitionWorker" and runs the following code. void acquisitionWorker_LoadImages(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { // This is the main function of the acquisition background worker thread. // Perform image processing here instead of the UI thread to avoid a // sluggish or unresponsive UI. BackgroundWorker worker = (BackgroundWorker)sender; try { uint bufferNumber = 0; // Loop until we tell the thread to cancel or we get an error. When this // function completes the acquisitionWorker_RunWorkerCompleted method will // be called. while (!worker.CancellationPending) { VisionImage savedImage = (VisionImage) formatter.Deserialize(fs); CommonAlgorithms.Copy(savedImage, imageViewer.Image); // Update the UI by calling ReportProgress on the background worker. // This will call the acquisition_ProgressChanged method in the UI // thread, where it is safe to update UI elements. Do not update UI // elements directly in this thread as doing so could result in a // deadlock. worker.ReportProgress(0, bufferNumber); bufferNumber++; } } catch (ImaqException ex) { // If an error occurs and the background worker thread is not being // cancelled, then pass the exception along in the result so that // it can be handled in the acquisition_RunWorkerCompleted method. if (!worker.CancellationPending) e.Result = ex; } } What am I missing here? Why would the object be immediately disposed?
