  • In Django, how to create tables from an SQL file when syncdb is run

    Hi, How do I make syncdb execute SQL queries (for table creation) defined by me, rather then generating tables automatically. I'm looking for this solution as some particular models in my app represent SQL-table-views for a legacy-database table. So, I've created their SQL-views in my django-DB like this: CREATE VIEW legacy_series AS SELECT * FROM legacy.series; I have a reverse engineered model that represents the above view/legacytable. But whenever I run syncdb, I have to create all the views first by running sql scripts, otherwise syncdb simply creates tables for them (if a view is not found). How do I make syncdb run the above mentioned SQL?

    Can someone please explain this: SELECT CASE WHEN CAST('iX' AS nvarchar(20)) > CAST('-X' AS nvarchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END, CASE WHEN CAST('iX' AS varchar(20)) > CAST('-X' AS varchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END Results: 0 1 SELECT CASE WHEN CAST('i' AS nvarchar(20)) > CAST('-' AS nvarchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END, CASE WHEN CAST('i' AS varchar(20)) > CAST('-' AS varchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END Results: 1 1 On the first query, the nvarchar() result is not what I'm expecting, and yet removing the X make the nvarchar() sort happen as expected. (My original queries used the '' and N'' literal syntax to distinguish varchar() and nvarchar() rather than CAST() and got the same result.) Collation setting for the database is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

    Hi! I'm generating an HTML file for an app, and in this HTML file there's a link to a stylesheet and one to an image. Here's what I tried so far: NSMutableString *toReturn = [NSMutableString stringWithCapacity:100]; NSString *cssPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"etapes.css" ofType:nil]; [toReturn appendFormat:@"<html><head><title></title><link href=\"%@\" media=\"all\" rel=\"stylesheet\" type=\"text/css\" /></head><body>", cssPath]; It generates the right full path to the right file, this is okay if I want to access it on my mac, but on the simulator or my iPhone it doesn't point to the right place at all...   • Clustered index dilemma - ID or sort?

    I have a table with two very important fields: id INT identity(1,1) PRIMARY KEY identifiersortcode VARCHAR(900) My app always sorts and pages search results in the UI based on identifiersortcode, but all table joins (and they are legion) are on the id field. (Aside: yes, the sort code really is that long. There's a strong BL reason.) Also, due to O/RM use, most SELECT statements are going to pull almost every column. Currently, the clustered index is on id, but I'm wondering if the TOP / ORDER BY portion of most queries would make identifiersortcode a more attractive option as the clustered key, even considering all of the table joins going on. Inserts on the table and changes to the identifiersortcode are limited enough that changing my clustered index would be a problem for insert/update operations. Trying to make the sort code's non-clustered index a covering index (using INCLUDE) is not a good option. There are a number of large columns, and some of them have a lot of update activity.

    Hi everybody, I need to programmatically modify the Access Descriptors on a known Registry key during product installation. The way I want it to work is: The installer is run in Administrative mode. A Registry key is created. A function (the one I need) queries the ACL from the key. If this function finds that the group 'Users' already has write access, nothing should be done. If not, it should add a new permission allowing write access to the 'Users' group. The permissions are saved for the Registry key. This question is similar to Setting Registry key write permissions using .NET, however, I need a C++/Win32 implementation. Thanks in advance

  • Storing uploaded content on a website

    For the past 5 years, my typical solution for storing uploaded files (images, videos, documents, etc) was to throw everything into an "upload" folder and give it a unique name. I'm looking to refine my methods for storing uploaded content and I'm just wondering what other methods are used / preferred. I've considered storing each item in their own folder (folder name is the Id in the db) so I can preserve the uploaded file name. I've also considered uploading all media to a locked folder, then using a file handler, which you pass the Id of the file you want to download in the querystring, it would then read the file and send the bytes to the user. This is handy for checking access, and restricting bandwidth for users.

  • WSSQL query for multiple computers at once

    I can run normal searches just fine. Windows 7 won't let me add a network share to my local index, but I can query the remote index just fine. The problem is that I can't find a way to query two indexes at once. I was hoping that something like this would work: SELECT System.ItemName FROM compA.SystemIndex, compB.SystemIndex WHERE SCOPE='file://compA/pathA' OR SCOPE='file://compB/pathB' but it doesn't. For simple queries, I can query compA and compB separately and then merge the results myself, but I'm hoping for a better way. Anybody here have some experience with this?

  • CakePHP: How do I order results based on a 2-level deep association model?

    I'm hoping I won't need to resort to custom queries. A related question would be: how do I retrieve data so that if an associated model is empty, no record is retrieved at all, as opposed to an empty array for an associated model? As an oversimplified example, say I have the following models: City -- Street -- House How do I sort City results by House numbers? How do I retrieve City restuls that have at least one House in it? I don't want a record with a city name and details and an empty House array as it messes up pagination results. CakePHP retrieves House records belonging to the Street in a separate query, so putting somthing like 'House.number DESC' into the 'order' field of the search query returns a 'field does not exist' error. Any ideas?

  • ACL suggestions needed for a small light framework developed

    Hello all, I've developed a small framework that was needed for the firm that I work. The problem is I've not made a full level framework, as developers are finding tough time to understand what is what, So I made a simple structure with app/controllers, app/models, app/views so that they can clearly separate the code and can get used to higher frameworks later. All other things like components/modules/helpers are just coded for now in a file called app_functions.php. The above framework is derived from cakePHP, not all, but just the framework uses a modified code of dispatcher of cake. The models all work with normal sqls, and views with pure html using a template engine. Now I'm trying to develop a small application over it, it cameout well, but ACL is something which many versions of it have not proved that satisfactory. Can anybody suggest a good ACL. I've checked phpGACL(too heavy), Zend_ACL likely won't be compatible, Cakephp's ACL which wont fit in the structure,as we are not using cake's SQLs, as there too many queries hitting the database for one page display.

    Hi all, I have a scenario where I need to localized values of objects in my database. Let's say you have an application that can create animals, if the user is english the value of the "Name" property of an animal would be entered as "Cat" in the UI whereas it would be entered as "Chat" in french. The animal culture table would contain 2 records pointing to the same animal in the parent table. When reading values back, if the value of "Name" does not exist in the user culture the default value (value the object was originally created with) would be used. The following diagrams demonstrate how the data is stored in SQL: I'm trying to map this schema to an object model using the Entity Framework, I'm a bit confused as to what the best way to approach the problem. I've heard things about Unit of Work and creating a session per web request and flushing it at the end. From what I can tell, my current implementation isn't doing any of this. It is basically relying on the Repository to grab the session from the session factory and use it to run the queries. Are there any pitfalls to doing database access this way?

  • Can I combine values from multiple rows in another table into multiple columns of one row using SQL?

    I have two tables: T1: | M_ID | P_ID1 | P_ID2 | rest of T1 columns | | 0 | 0 | 1 | ... | | 1 | 2 | 3 | ... | T2: | P_ID | Type | A | B | | 0 | 1 | a | e | | 1 | 2 | b | f | | 2 | 1 | c | g | | 3 | 2 | d | h | Now, I want to have a query that selects this: | M_ID | P_1a | P_1b | P_2a | P_2b | rest of T1 columns | | 0 | a | e | b | f | ... | | 1 | c | g | c | h | ... | So, in words: I want to select all columns from T1, but I want to replace P_ID1 with the columns from T2, where the P_ID is equal to P_ID1, and the type is 1, and basically the same for P_ID2. I can obviously get the information I need with multiple queries, but I was wondering if there is a way that I can do this with one query. Any ideas? I'm currently using SQL Server 2008r2, but I'd also be interested in solutions for other database software. Thanks for the help!

  • MySQL: Count two things in one query?

    I have a "boolean" column in one of my tables (value is either 0 or 1). I need to get two counts: The number of rows that have the boolean set to 0 and the number of rows that have it set to 1. Currently I have two queries: One to count the 1's and the other to count the 0's. Is MySQL traversing the entire table when counting rows with a WHERE condition? I'm wondering if there's a single query that would allow two counters based on different conditions? Or is there a way to get the total count along side the WHERE conditioned count? This would be enough as I'd only have to subtract one count from the other (due to the boolean nature of the column). There are no NULL values. Thanks.

The data is stored in a table that looks like this: CREATE table sales_data ( sales_time timestamp , sales_amt double ) I need to write parameterized queries that will allow me to do the following: Return the change in sales_amt between times t2 and t1, where t2 and t1 are separated by a time interval (integer) of N. This query will allow for querying for weekly changes in sales (for example). Return the change in change of sales_amt between times t2 and t1, and time t3 and t4. Thats is to calculate the value (val(t2)-val(t1)) - (val(t4)-val(t3)). where t2 and t1 are separated by the same time interval (interval N) as the interval between t4 and t3. This query will allow for querying for changes in weekly changes in sales (for example).

  • What are good Python and/or Django deployment solutions?

    For now I use some mix between virtual_env, pip and Fabric. This allows to: install required libs; generate dynamic content; isolate installation; push everything through ssh. It works well, I just want to know if there are other tools around. The only problem I could think of is that it's a lot of to set up every time. It doesn't solve database / media files migration issues either, but maybe I should just open another question for this specific subject. Eventually, I don't know how to automatize the server setup.     Hi, I am trying to publish to a users stream when they click a share button in my flash app that i have living in a tab on a fan fan. I basically have my swf embedded on a page that has a java script function that calls the facebook share dialogue.     I am new to MongoDB and have a perfect place in mind to use it. However, it's only worth it if I can make the queries from JavaScript and return JSON. I read another post on here of someone asking a similar question, but not specific to C#. What's the easiest way I can implement a generic service/handler in asp.net/c# that would allow me to interact with mongodb via JavaScript? I understand JavaScript can't call mongodb directly, so the next best thing is what I'm looking for.

    This is probably a very silly question (I just started learning Prolog a few hours ago), but is it possible to find all the clauses related to an atom? For example, assuming the following knowledge base: cat(tom). animal(X) :- cat(X). , is there a way to obtain every possible information about tom (or at least all the facts that are explicitly stated in the base)? I understand that a query like this is not possible: ?- Pred(tom). so I thought I could write a rule that would deduce the correct information: meta(Object, Predicate) :- Goal =.. [Predicate, Object], call(Goal). so that I could write queries such as ?- meta(tom, Predicate). but this does not work because arguments to call are not sufficiently instantiated. So basically my question is: is this at all possible, or is Prolog not design to provide this kind of information? And if it is not possible, why?

The query is such that you give it a k and it returns kth smallest entry in that database. we need to find nth smallest entry among all the 2n elements in O(logn) queries. the idea is to use divide and conquer but i need some help thinking through this. thanks!

    Hello, producing software for customers, mostly using MS SQL but some Oracle, a decision was made to plunge into Nhibernate (and C#). The task is to delete efficiently e.g. 10 000 rows from 100 000 and still stay sticked to ORM. I've tried named queries - link already, IQuery sql = s.GetNamedQuery("native-delete-car").SetString(0, "Kirsten"); sql.ExecuteUpdate(); but the best I have ever found seems to be: using (ITransaction tx = _session.BeginTransaction()) { try { string cmd = "delete from Customer where Id < GetSomeId()"; var count = _session.CreateSQLQuery(cmd).ExecuteUpdate(); ... Since it may not get into dB to get all complete rows before deleting them. My questions are: If there is a better way for this kind of delete. If there is a possibility to get the Where condition for Delete like this: Having a select statement (using LinQ to NHibernate) = which will generate appropriate SQL for DB = we get that Where condition and use it for Delete.
