    Need your help here: I'm unable to start Wbuntu in my laptop. I'm sharing ubuntu with Windows 7 in my laptop, and after I install Ubuntu when I boot my laptop and choose ubuntu as my operating system the following error appears: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr Status: 0xc0000098 Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. Any ideas?

  • No panels at all after upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04

    After upgrading to 12.4 from 10.4 on an AMD64 the situation is as follows: After booting I see the Xubuntu logo splash screen and when I log in I get an error that there is a system crash somewhere (it suggest to click on the notification icon, but no info appears then). FInally I can only see my initial 10.04 Desktop but I have no panels at all, so I can only click on my Desktop objects. Question: Will a clean re intall solve the problem? In such case will my multi partition configuration (Vista+XP+ubuntu partitions) be affected?

I am using Metacity. Thanks a lot :) EDIT: I am using Unity. And I want to reset it as the sidebar is always shown when I am viewing my desktop (although it hides automatically if I am using other applications) and Alt+Tab switches the windows in a different, poor way (not the default one of Ubuntu 11.10).

  • Building a touch event driven UI from scratch: what algorithms or data types?

    I have a touch display. As input I can receive the coordinates and how many touch points are in use, basically I just get an X,Y couple for every touch event/activated point at a customizable rate. I need to start from this and build my own callback system to achieve something like Object.onUp().doSomething() meaning that I would like to abstract just the detection of some particular movements and not having to deal with raw data: what algorithms can be useful in this case? What statements? Is there some C++ library that I can dissect to get some useful info? Would you suggest the use of an heuristic algorithm?

  • Live USB does not work

    I've made live USB using these "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.1.9", "unetbootin-windows-581", "YUMI-0.0.8.0" & "LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.18" in "FAT32" format, but unfortunately I could not boot using the pen-drive. My BIOS supports boot from USB drive. When I am booting from the live usb, it just show black screen with a blinking "_", but nothing happens after that( I have waited more than 10 minutes, but nothing happens). So, can anyone please help me on this? [Additional Info.: I've made Bootable USB using PowerISO and that booted, but it was not possible to access the USB normally afterwards,because PowerISO formatted the USB Drive as RAW(or anything I don't know) and it became 8GB to 700MB, afterwards I had to format it using MiniTool Partition manager.]

    I am looking for theoretical resources (books, tutorials, etc.) to learn about making sound statistical inferences given (plenty of) multivariate website conversion data. I'm after the math involved, and cannot find any good non-marketing stuff on the web. The sort of questions I want to answer: how much impact does a single variable (e.g. color of text) have? what is the correlation between variables? what type of distribution is used for modelling (Gaussian, Binomial, etc.)? When using statistics to analyze results - what should be considered as a random variable - the web-page element that gets different variations or the binary conversion-or-no-conversion outcome of an impression? There's plenty of information about different website optimization testing methods and their benefits\pitfalls, plenty of information about multivariate statistics in general, do you guys know of resources that discuss statistics in this specific context of website optimization ?   • why is the video freezing all the time on youtube yet the audio plays ok throughout?

    this is just a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 . I tried it a few years ago when it was on 7.04 and had a lot of issues,then my pc broke and ive never tried it again until tonight. Everything seems to be working well except videos on youtube either wont play at all or freeze while the audio keeps going as normal. Is this a common issue thats gonna be fairly easy to fix or is it something to do with my video card?(ati radeon2100). Any help/advice would be much appreciated.If any other info is needed about my pc feel free to ask. thanks

    I have Samsung 530U4C. How can I configure 3-finger gestures to work? Choosing next photo using 3 finger "scrool" worked in Windows 7. If I use synclient TapButton3=2 I may use it as medium mouse button, but there's problem: it gets cancelled after reboot, and as I read over the Internet, sometime else. Moreover, it would be great to see all gestures my laptop support and configure them all as I need. I find some info about touchegg, but I didn't manage to understand what it exactly is and even run it. Two-finger gestures works fine(configured using System setting menu)

  • Ubuntu 12.04 mdadm inactive

    For a while now, my RAID 5 has ceased to work. Everytime I tried "madm --detail /dev/md127", its states all the drive and drive info, but that two of the drives have been removed. After some restarts, doing the same thing, i am getting /dev/md127 does not appear to be active. When I go into DiskUtil, I can see all 6 Hard Drives healthy and present, and i can see the Raid 5 at the bottom under Multi-disk Devices. However, the Raid says 0.0kb, and is not active. Please help and let me know how to proceed from here. I would really like to avoid rebuilding the RAID, especially because all 6 drives seem to be healthy and present. Thanks so much.

Having tried a few Linux Player over the past years i come to wonder, which Players you prefer and what kind of Players are out there, that you suggest are worth looking into and why!! I used Rhythmbox for a long time, but "Jamendo and Magnatune" plugin are both no longer available in 11.10 and also my covers are not shown, since i stream my music folder from a second partition. aTunes is another great Player, but there are also some flaws which i contacted the developers about.   • Ubuntu 11.10 boot: xhost: unable to open display

    I've had this papercut for a while now, it's time it was fixed. When I boot up Ubuntu, choosing "Ubuntu...generic" from the grub screen, Ubuntu fails to load. It just sits at the driver/module loading screen. What seems to be the most significant line in this output is "xhost: unable to open display" If I choose "Ubuntu...(recovery mode)" from grub then it loads OK. I don't get why this is. Out of interest I tried enabling boot error logging with #/etc/default/bootlogd BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes but I'm not seeing anything in that file. ETA: I've had this problem since fresh install of 11.10.   • PHP error log does not display script names nor does it display the errors' line numbers [migrated]

    I think the title is self-explanatory, and my Google-fu isn't bringing up anything useful. I'm working on a new host, and my php error log only displays the error itself, not which script is the offender, nor which line number the error is occurring on. Makes it a tad difficult to debug, especially since there's only 1 error in the script. More info: I'm not using a custom error handler that I'm aware of. This is a standard Wordpress install. The error was [27-Aug-2012 19:22:36 UTC] PHP NOTICE: Trying to get property of non-object. Just no script name or line number in the error I found that Wordpress' error logging contained the information to debug the problem, but that doesn't explain why the log didn't contain line number or script.

    Hi I am getting ready to create my first web aplication.I have some knowledge of databases but I have never used databases with relationship created beetween them and also I am not sure how to acces the data in the relationship.My experience is limited to basic CRUD applications and working on simple tables with no realtionship using PHP and MySql. For example I will be creating a login system and for each user I would like to create a profile page that store different data(name , address , profile image etc.).Some of the info will be the same in both tables so there is no point in creating the same table twice.   • Reset DRAC to factory defaults

    I put a DRAC that has not been used in a long time into a PowerEdge 1750 running CentOS 5.8. Because we run our DRACs on a separate network, we don't change the password from the default (root/calvin), but evidently someone changed this one. I tried the regular command line reset (racadm racresetcfg), but I get the following error: ERROR: Unable to perform requested operation. If the operation attempted was to configure DRAC, possible reason may be that Local Configuration using RACADM is disabled. This implies to me that racadm is able to communicate, but there is a setting on the DRAC that is preventing it from working. I was not able to find any references to this error in any Dell documentation. Has anyone seen this problem and/or know what I can do about it? (The DRAC is useless is I can't log in to it.)

There's a renderer like this: Ext.util.Format.comboRenderer = function(combo){ return function(value, metadata, record){ alert(combo.store.getCount()); <== always 0!! var record = combo.findRecord(combo.valueField || combo.displayField, value); return record ? record.get(combo.displayField) : combo.valueNotFoundText; } }; When the grid is displayed the first time, instead of have the displayField, I have : "Value not found." And I have the alert : 0 (alert(combo.store.getCount())) from the renderer. But I can see in the console that the data have been correctly loaded! Even if I try to reload the store from the renderer (combo.store.load();), I still have the alert (0)! But when I select the combo to change the value, I can see the data and when I change the value, I can see the displayFiel! I don't understand what's the problem? Since now several days, I already tried all the solutions I found...but still nothing! Any advice is welcome! Yoong

I need connecting lines in the treeview to make it look exact to org chart.   • jqGrid filtering on the client-side using "filterToolbar"

    Hi guys, I have to add filtering to a jqGrid that is completely managed on the client side (data is only loaded once from the server). I need to use filterToolbar in order to filter the grid data, but couldn't find info if there is a default search mechanism on the client side. Is a server-side search the only way to do this?
