• Unable to find javac after installing OpenJDK 1.6 and 1.7

  I am currently at a loss as to why this is happening. I did some basic research by running: whereis javac -and- find / -name javac ...and I came up with nothing I searched the web for answers but they all seem to focus on javac existing on the filesystem, and that needs to be done is to restore a missing sym-link. Has anyone run up against this issue and found a solution ? I have attempted to install openJDK on Scientific Linux 6.3 with the command: yum install openjdk Thanks!!!

• Moving Data from One Column into Six Columns

  I have an Excel sheet that has six columns that are currently all combined into one column. I need to separate them out but the issue is the first column is words that sometimes are one word and sometimes two. • How to troubleshoot port forwarding on Windows 7 (64 Bit) with ICS enabled?

  I want to forward some ports (1666 for perforce, 8081 for Hudson) on my Internet Gateway machine. This machine is running Windows 7 (64 Bit, legal, user-account) and connected to the Internet via cable modem (it's not a router). The Windows machine is sharing its Internet Connection via ICS and that works fine on all connected computers. I can access the services via the gateway's public IP (95.x.x.x) on the given ports if they are running on the gateway machine itself. I've added the ports and destination IP address (192.168.0.18) in the Internet network adapter's Advanced Settings dialog (Sharing tab). That's the same dialog where you have a list of preconfigured services like HTTP, FTP and other incoming services. When I do that I can't connect to the services anymore. For some reason port forwarding isn't working. I have uninstalled Bitdefender because I wanted to check if the Firewall interferes. I've also disabled the Windows Firewall and Defender to no avail. I tried a freeware tool that helps to setup port forwarding but that didn't work either. The target machine is a Mac OS X computer whose Firewall is disabled. The IP is static. I can successfully connect to the services using the local IP address (192.168.0.18) from two different machines, including the gateway computer. So internally and externally it seems to me that the ports are open and not blocked, and the issue is with port forwarding itself. From what I understand it should be enough to add an entry to the Advanced Settings dialog to enable port forwarding when there are no firewalls interfering. How can I troubleshoot why port forwarding isn't working for me? What steps should I follow to alleviate the issue? PS: I gladly accept command line solutions. Other things I've tried: adding an Inbound Rule to Windows Firewall for the 1666, 8081 ports trying with Windows Firewall enabled and disabled disabling/enabling the network adapter double-checked that the IP addresses are correct mapping a different incoming port to the service's actual port followed or checked the misc tips in this article What I haven't dared trying yet (let me know if it's worth a shot): disable/enable ICS remove all network adapters (via Control Panel), then re-install and re-configure them

• How can I access my external hard drive wirelessly from my laptop?

  My desktop crashed so I am migrated over to a laptop. I have wireless in my home so i am trying to be able to use to laptop in any room without any other connections (wireless printer, wireless mouse, etc) The one issue i have is that my desktop had 2 external hard drives (USB) connected to them and i am trying to figure out the best way to treat these as external drives without having to plug them into the laptop directly. My external hard drive is the Western Digital WDH1U5000N 500GB and my laptop is a Dell D620.

• Maximum number of outgoing VPN connections?

  I'm working on a project where we would like to have around 50 outgoing (not incoming) VPN connections. We could use PPTP or IPSEC. Security isn't an issue, we control all the sites and users won't have access. Windows Server appears to have a limit of 5 outgoing connections. Does anyone know if it's possible to tweak it to allow more? Or can we get this many outgoing VPN connections with Linux?

• Google chrome proxy authentication dialogue timeout

  I am on a network that uses LDAP proxy for authentication based on a username and password. Whenever I start Google Chrome, it pops up with a proxy authentication dialogue, but the dialogue disappears automatically after variable amount of time (sometimes it stays for 5 seconds some times less than 1 second). I have found the same issue with Chromium also. Is there any configuration I can set to control this timeout, or say, auto-authenticate with my authentication details from the shell or DE (Gnome3 on Arch)?

• Bluetooth not working in Windows 8

  I am using Windows 8 Enterprise edition. Bluetooth is not detected by the OS and drivers. I tried to install Windows 7 bluetooth drivers, but it says no bluetooth device is detected. If I change to Windows 7 without any driver, bluetooth is working. This issue exists in developer preview, consumer preview and release preview. I don't know how to turn on bluetooth. System Config : 3Gp ram, Core2Duo processor.

• How can I force mail clients like Outlook or Thunderbird to load SSL images with invalid certificate?

  Essentially, we only encounter this issue with our testing environments, where we send mail that contains HTTPS links that point to test servers with self-signed SSL certificates. In a browser I can select to accept the certificate. Is there something similar for mail clients like Thunderbird or Outlook that I can use? Currently, we don't see any images in our test mail, which greatly confuses the UAT team.

• How to ensure dbs are all in sync when restored?

  Hi, In large server environments, how do you handle the issue of backing up SQL Server dbs which may not be in sync with other dbs they rely on? So if I back up DB1 from a server, and it uses another db which is not backed up, doing a restore when the dbs are in differing state could cause problems? It seems like all dependent DBs should be backed up, regardless of size etc, but in my current job (where we're a datacentre company and I'm a .NET Developer), I only backup some of several dependent DBs on a SQL Server instance. • HttpWebRequest and Ignoring SSL Certificate Errors

  Man I can't believe this. I'm still mucking around with OFX servers and it drives me absolutely crazy how some these servers are just so unbelievably misconfigured. I've recently hit three different 3 major brokerages which fail HTTP validation with bad or corrupt certificates at least according to the .NET WebRequest class. What's somewhat odd here though is that WinInet seems to find no issue with these servers - it's only .NET's Http client that's ultra finicky. So the question then becomes how do you tell HttpWebRequest to ignore certificate errors? In WinInet there used to be a host of flags to do this, but it's not quite so easy with WebRequest. Basically you need to configure the CertificatePolicy on the ServicePointManager by creating a custom policy. Not exactly trivial. Here's the code to hook it up: public bool CreateWebRequestObject(string Url) {    try     {        this.WebRequest =  (HttpWebRequest) System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Url);         if (this.IgnoreCertificateErrors)            ServicePointManager.CertificatePolicy = delegate { return true; };}One thing to watch out for is that this an application global setting. There's one global ServicePointManager and once you set this value any subsequent requests will inherit this policy as well, which may or may not be what you want. So it's probably a good idea to set the policy when the app starts and leave it be - otherwise you may run into odd behavior in some situations especially in multi-thread situations.Another way to deal with this is in you application .config file. The .config settings aren't as inclusive as the programmatic code that can ignore any and all cert errors - shrug. Anyway, the code approach got me past the stopper issue. It still amazes me that theses OFX servers even require this. After all this is financial data we're talking about here. The last thing I want to do is disable extra checks on the certificates.   Problems: One of my colleague is having a wired issue today with Search Service Application in SharePoint2010.After he created the Search Service Application, he could not browse to the Search Administration (http://ybbest:5555/searchadministration.aspx?appid=6508b5cc-e19a-4bdc-89b3-05d984999e3c) ,he got 404 page not found every time he browse to the page. Analysis After some basic trouble-shooting, it turns out we can browse to any other page in the search application ,e.g. Manage Content Sources(/_admin/search/listcontentsources.aspx) or Manage Crawl Rules(/_admin/search/managecrawlrules.aspx).After some more research , we think some of the web parts in the Search Administration page might cause the problem. • How to know whether to create a general system or to hack a solution

  I'm new to coding , learning it since last year actually. One of my worst habits is the following: Often I'm trying to create a solution that is too big , too complex and doesn't achieve what needs to be achieved, when a hacky kludge can make the fit. I feel stupid sometimes for building something so big, so awkward, just to solve a simple problem. It did not occur to me that there would be an easier solution. Any tips are welcomed. Best

• TFS 2008 Web Access Report 100 record limitation

  By default TFS 2008 Web Access has the limit of 100 record when you open any query in report mode. Even if you tried to export the query to excel or PDF you will only get first 100 record exported. To overcome this issue, you have to reconfigure this count in the web.config file Navigate to web access files C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team System Web Access\Wiwa Open web.config modify maxWorkitemsInReportList count to whatever count you need. • Unity Locks Up in Live CD

  I'm trying to run from the live USB to install Ubuntu 13.10 on my Windows Machine (as I've grown a touch sick of Windows). However, whenever I boot into the LiveUSB session after a few moments the Unity desktop locks up (except the mouse pointer, which I can move). Is this something to do with the fact I've got an NVidia 580 GTX? I've heard of issues with Ubuntu and this card. I've also got an SSD, but given that it's booting from USB I shouldn't think that's an issue.   hey, my laptop should be capable of running some games fine but doesn't. Examples are egoboo and tome. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/237739 this is my laptop. I tried the gears test and i only get 60 FPS, on IRC they said thats a big issue and should try the forums. • Should a c# dev switch to VB.net when the team language base is mixed?

  I recently joined a new development team where the language preferences are mixed on the .net platform. Dev 1: Knows VB.net, does not know c# Dev 2: Knows VB.net, does not know c# Dev 3: Knows c# and VB.net, prefers c# Dev 4: Knows c# and VB6(VB.net should be pretty easy to pick up), prefers c# It seems to me that the thought leaders in the .net space are c# devs almost universally. I also thought that some 3rd party tools didn't support VB.net but when I started looking into it I didn't find any good examples. I would prefer to get the whole team on c# but if there isn't any good reason to force the issue aside from preference then I don't think that is the right choice. Are there any reasons I should lead folks away from VB.net?
