It looks like: User Field Value ------------------- 1 name Aaron 1 email [email protected] 1 phone 800-555-4545 2 name Mike 2 email [email protected] 2 phone 777-123-4567 (etc, etc) I would love to extract this data via a query in the more sensible format: User Name Email Phone ------------------------------------------- 1 Aaron [email protected] 800-555-4545 2 Mike [email protected] 777-123-4567 I'm a SQL novice, but have tried several queries with variations of Group By, all without anything even close to success. Is there a SQL technique to make this easy?

  • hundreds of databases sql server log shipping

    SQL Server 2005 Standard 64x, with 300+ tiny databases currently (5MB each), user base adds databases as needed. Want to implement log shipping for warm standby, but not via the wizard, since that looks like it adds 3 jobs (1 on primary, 2 on secondary) for each log-shipped database. Do I try to write my own or use something like Quest's LiteSpeed? Or am I being too squeamish about having hundreds of SQL Server Agent jobs and all of them firing off (or worse, would I have to try to time them)? All advice welcome.

    This might be implementation specific so the question regards how SQL databases is generally implemented. Say I have a database looking like this; Product with columns [ProductName] [Price] [Misc] [Etc] Order with columns [OrderID] [ProductName] [Quantity] [Misc] [Etc] ProductName is primary key of Product, of some string type and unique. OrderID is primary key and of some integer type, and ProductName being a foreign key. Say I change the primary key of Product to a new column of integer type ie [ProductID] Would this reduce the database size and optimize lookups joining these two tables (and likewise operations), or are these optimizations performed automatically by (most/general/main) SQL database implementations?

  • SQL Server 2000 incorrect message: duplicate key with unique index

    Database server: SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 - SP3 - Standard Edition I have a table with 5 columns, in which I want to add a large (300.000) number of records. There is a unique index on the combination of two columns. If I add the records with this unique index in place, SQL Server gives this error message: Msg 2601, Level 14, State 3, Line 1 Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'TESTTABLE' with unique index 'test'. The statement has been terminated. (0 row(s) affected) However, if I delete the unique index and then add the records, I do not get any error when I create this unique index afterwards.

    Hi, I have an application I’m writing in access with a SQL server backend. One of the most heavily used parts is where the users selects an answer to a question, a stored procedure is then fired which sees if an answer has already been given, if it has an UPDATE is executed, if not an INSERT is executed. This works just fine but now we have upgraded to SQL server 2008 express I was wondering if it would be better/quicker/more efficient to rewrite this SP to use the new MERGE command. Does anyone have any idea if this is faster than doing a SELECT followed by either an INSERT or UPDATE?

    Hey there, This is a bit urgent! I'm trying to make a simple filter search where-by you can choose from a series of 3 drop downs and then based upon this the results are then displayed, How would I go about adjusting the sql query for each and if you were to only choose to search from aone of the 3 rather than all 3 etc... example there could be the url with input such as: url.com?location=gb&color=3&hair=4 and still form the correct sql query for something like this: url.com?location=gb&hair=1 and not encounter problems with WHERE and AND etc etc and empty variables in the statement Would this not need to be a massive function to check using if to see how the data is set for all possibilities?     Hey guys, so here's the deal. I have several databases (SqlServer 2005) on the same server with the same schema but different data. I have one extra database which has one table storing the names of the mentioned databases. So what I need to do is to iterate over those databases name and actually "switch" to each one (use [dbname]) and execute a T-SQL script. Am I clear? Let me give you an example (simplified from the real one): CREATE TABLE DatabaseNames ( Id int, Name varchar(50) ) INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseA' INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseB' INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseC' Assume that DatabaseA, DatabaseB and DatabaseC are real existing databases. So let's say I need to create a new SP on those DBs. I need some script that loops over those databases and executes the T-SQL script I specify (maybe stored on a varchar variable or wherever).     I'm using SQL Server 2005, VB.NET 2005. I want to be able to import a very large excel file into a SQL table called "XYZ" I've done this by doing the following: 1. Save the excel file as csv.(Using SaveAs XLCSV option) 2. Build a datatable "ABC" From CSV.(using ODBC Connection and Select * from '*'.csv command) 3. copy the datatable"ABC" into database table "xyz" (using sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer()) It works fine without any error but when i checked my database i found that data type for some columns has been changed and hence it didn't copy some of the records.Any help would be appreciated

    Hi everyone, I've got a problem with using for xml explicit in SQL Server 2000 (so I can't use the new path() stuff from sql 2005/8) Essentially I have two tables and the XML structure I want to have is <xml> <table_1 field1="foo" field2="foobar2" field3="foobar3"> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="goo" field2="goobar2" field3="goobar3" /> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="hoo" field2="hoobar2" field3="hoobar3" /> </table_1> </xml> That is, table_1 has a one-to-many relationship with table_2, and I want to make a hierarchy of it. So far I can't seem to get it, the closest I've managed to get is all the records from table1, with all the records from table2 appended to the very last element of table1 Any help with setting up this kind of relationship would be greatly appreciated. -Marcin

So now I've got two tables, TABLE1: ACCNO BAL1 BAL2 11111 20 10 And TABLE2 (which has the ACCNO key, of course) related rows to '11111': DATENUM AMT 1 -5 2 -10 3 8 4 -23 5 100 6 -120 7 140 Now I have to find the new BAL1 and BAL2 using the following rules: BAL1 AMT must be substracted from or added to BAL1 until BAL1 == 0 (and BAL2 0) if BAL1 reaches 0 then the (if any) remainder of BAL1 must be substracted from BAL2 if BAL2 reaches 0 too, from then only BAL1 should be modified. So using the above data: DATENUM AMT BAL1 BAL2 0 0 20 10 /*starting record*/ 1 -5 15 10 2 -10 5 10 3 8 13 10 4 -23 0 0 5 100 100 0 6 -120 -20 0 7 140 20 0 And I need the last two BAL1 and BAL2.     I have to come up with a way to get data from a SQL server table given it's month There's a smalldatetime type field called "date" in the "events" table and a field from it looks like this: 29/01/2003 17:00:00 It should be one among those that appear in the gridview when I select jan/03 in a given DropDownList control in ASP.NET. What would be the best way to do this? Assuming I only want to go as long as 10 years to the past, wouldn't making a dictionary be a good way? How do I change it so the top month is always the current, and each month another options appeaars in the dropdown ? It should be a common issue, so that shall not be a trick, but I want a good and clean way of doing this, and (since I'm new to asp.net) I myself would come up with something messy after a long time trying. So what I want is: -Select -Best way of populating DropDownList (with the current month always at the top) -Best way to bind the DropDownList user-friendly way of writing months to the select query-friendly way of writing datetimes Info: ASP.NET, (C# or VB.NET), SQL Server 2005

    How do you make VS 2008 automatically install SQL Server CE 3.5 when debugging (F5) a CF app on a windows Mobile 5.0 device? VS used to do this automatically, but now it stopped and I don't know why. I have changed the structure of my solution and the projects, but it is still using SQL Server CE 3.5. It used to also install the Query Analyzer as well which was useful. I frequently uninstall all the programs on the device or do hard reboots so installing this manually is what I am trying to avoid.

  • Consolidate data from many different databases into one with minimum latency

    I have 12 databases totaling roughly 1.0TB, each on a different physical server running SQL 2005 Enterprise - all with the same exact schema. I need to offload this data into a separate single database so that we can use for other purposes (reporting, web services, ect) with a maximum of 1 hour latency. It should also be noted that these servers are all in the same rack, connected by gigabit connections and that the inserts to the databases are minimal (Avg. 2500 records/hour). The current method is very flakey: The data is currently being replicated (SQL Server Transactional Replication) from each of the 12 servers to a database on another server (yes, 12 different employee tables from 12 different servers into a single employee table on a different server). Every table has a primary key and the rows are unique across all tables (there is a FacilityID in each table). What are my options, these has to be a simple way to do this.

    I'm working on versioning our database and now searching for a way to drop all stored procedures and functions from a C# Console Application. I'd rather not create a stored procedure that drops all stored procedures and functions. I has to be some sql executed from C#. I tried to drop the stored procedure before creating it, but I get this message: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: 'CREATE/ALTER PROCEDURE' must be the first statement in a query batch. Script for one SP for example: DROP PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_Economatic_LoadJournalEntryFeedbackByData] SET ANSI_NULLS ON SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_Economatic_LoadJournalEntryFeedbackByData] @Data VARCHAR(MAX) AS BEGIN ... END So I guess before creating all SP's and functions I'll need to drop all SP's and functions first with one sql script.

  • Sharepoint and SQL server Endpoint

    I created a LinkedServer on MS SQL Server 2005 pointing to my Active Directory. Nothing too fancy. Simple LinkedServer with ReadOnlyAdmin Account assigned to CONNECTAS Property. Then I created some storedprocedures to retreive some data from the LinkedServer. Again nothing too fancy. Just a few simple LDAP Queries. Then I created a SQL Endpoint to expose these stored procedures as Web services. Using Visual Studio 2008, everything is fine and dandy. It finds the endpoint, gets the list of the methods available and runs smoothly. Cool. But the Sharpeoint Add Web Service somehow doesn't work! It finds the WSDL file no prob. Retrieves the list of functions and parameterss n all but just simply doesn't run them! Any advice or where I should start checking?

  • Problem with Access 2003 linking tables with SQL Server 2008 using ODBC

    I am trying to link an Access 2003 DB to tables in a SQL Server 2008 database using ODBC. When I try to link to tables that have Primary Key established I get the following error message. " 'Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not to long. " Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims is the key value I see when looking at the table through SSMS. I have used Access for awhile but am somewhat new to SQL Server and connections using ODBC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • SQL Server: Can INFORMATION_SCHEMA Tell Me When a SQL Object Was Created?

    Given: I added a non-nullable foreign key to a table. I settled on a way to populate the foreign key with default values. I checked in both changes to a re-runnable DB creation script. Other developers ran this script, and now they have the foreign key populated with default values on their developer machines. A few days later however... I changed my mind. Now I'd like to populate the foreign key's default values differently. My Question: Can SQL Server or INFORMATION_SCHEMA tell me when SQL objects were created? Ideally, I'd like to drop and re-add the foreign key if it was created before a certain date/time. Any help or alternative strategies would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, I'd like to avoid going to each developer's cube, asking them to drop the foreign key manually.

I have bulk data in sql server(around 4 lakh records), But i am facing command timeout/wating for comand timeout error which when i search on google can be given 65535 as its highest value Or can be given 0 if someone wants that comand should wait for unlimited time untill its above command get executed. Both of these a'int working with me. I also have given any connectTimeout to 180. So shoiuld i have to change it too. Anybody who had face this problem or have any confirm knowledge please share
