• Permission denied: /home/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file

  This domain was working this morning, now I get a 403 error and the message above in my error log. I'm not using .htaccess files but I have been doing some copy on the server so may have messed things up but no changes to this domain (unless by accident!). What is this pcfg_openfile thing anyway? Done lots of googleing but none of the solutions seemed to fit these circumstances. Server is ubuntu Hardy Heron.

• NFS to NFS mount

  I have a machine that I need to bridge NFS files to. Can I mount an NFS directory on machine2 from machine1 and then mount the mounted NFS directory on machine2 on machine3 via NFS? Do you see any problems with that? I am basically bridging some subnet domains this way, in a certain fashion. My development machine is on a different and separate (unbridged) than where I would like to use the files, and I would like this machine1(dev machine) - machine2(passthrough machine) - machine3(test machine) connection. And no there is no way to move the test machine as it's a chassis :) and it's two buildings away.

• Why does my Intel HDA onboard sound card not have a "Mix" device / channel?

  I want to be able to record what my sound card outputs on the speakers / headphones. This question is all over the interwebs again and again, and there seem to be two outcomes: in your selection of audio input devices, there's a device called "Stereo Mix", or similar, which is the "loopback" device for audio. Choose that in your recording tool and you're done. there's no such device and only speculative posts about why that may be. Now, I'm using ALSA and an Intel HDA chipset on my mainboard under Kubuntu Karmic. I have some 5-10 output channels and "Mic", "Front Mic" and "Line" for input. All of those are available in KMix, Audacity and other software. No "loopback" / "Mix" / whatever. Do I have to get some driver / kernel module set up ALSA in some way set up my system configuration in some way use a software solution (such as JACK) I had a look at JACK, and found it rather hard to understand, it's either an expert tool or just clumsy, I couldn't say. At least, I wasn't able to figure out how to achieve what I wanted. One of my problems seems to be that I don't understand where and how the mixing happens. Are there sound cards which just aren't able to do it? Why does the sound card matter at all, since I could in theory grab the data stream at some point before it goes to the hardware, right?

• Globe SSL with NGINX SSL certificate problem, please help

  I have a big problem with installing a certificat for nginx (same happends with apache though) I have 3 files __domain_com.crt __domain_com.ca-bundle and ssl.key. • Apache2 with SSL and mod_jk on SUSE Linux Enterprise | Apache always starts SSL disabled

  I have installed Apache2 (with mod_ssl enabled) on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) (patchlevel 1), using YaST. Once installed, I tested whether everything works fine so far. SSL also worked fine. Just 'apache2ctl start' was enough to make everything working. Then I installed mod_jk and applied the following configuration changes to make it work. /etc/sysconfig/apache2 (added JK module) APACHE_MODULES="... ... ... ... ...jk" /etc/apache2/httpd.conf (included mod_jk.conf) Include /etc/apache2/mod_jk.conf /etc/apache2/mod_jk.conf (new file) JkLogFile /var/log/apache2/mod_jk.log JkWorkersFile /etc/apache2/mod_jk/workers.properties JkShmFile /etc/apache2/mod_jk/mod_jk.shm # Set the jk log level [debug/error/info] JkLogLevel info # Select the timestamp log format JkLogStampFormat "[%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y] " mod_jk.log & mod_jk.shm files were also created. /etc/apache2/mod_jk/workers.properties (new file) worker.list=jira worker.jira.type=ajp13 worker.jira.host=127.0.0.1 worker.jira.port=8009 Once everything is done, I've restarted Apache using the following command, apache2ctl restart Then I observed that SSL is not working. When checked with telnet, I observed that port 443 is not open. In listen.conf, if I specify port 443 bypassing 'IfDefine' and 'IfModule' conditions, then SSL works properly. This is likely the 'SSL' flag is not passed to Apache. I did not make this a persistent change as I thought it might not be the correct practice. I checked /etc/sysconfig/apache2 to see if this has been altered, but it is there. Although this flag is enabled, Apache won't start with SSL support. APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="SSL" Finally, I had to start Apache using the following command, apache2ctl -D SSL -k start And my question is, why did Apache (or apache2ctl) fail to start with SSL when I have installed and correctly configured mod_jk, and no other configuration changes were applied? • Send email from server to Google Apps email address (same domains)

  I'm sending email from a server, let's say domain.com. I also have Google Apps email set up for hosted email, same domain, domain.com. If I get mail sent to me from anywhere else, I receive things just fine. However, if the email originates from my server, it just ends up in /var/mail/root as a delivery error saying the user is unknown. I created a user on the server for the name which is having trouble, [email protected]. Retried sending and it sends, but not to my hosted email at Google Apps. I just receive it at /var/mail/webmaster now. I'm using sendmail. I messed around with /etc/aliases but adding webmaster: [email protected] looked useless (and I was right.) Any help?

I don't think that's what is happening though. Dell suggested that the author try using the Performance profile, but that didn't help. He ended up applying some settings in Dell's guide for configuring a server for low latency environments and one of those settings (or a combination thereof) seems to have fixed the problem. Kernel.org bug #36182 notes that power-limit interrupt debugging was enabled by default, which is causing performance degradation in scenarios where CPU voltage regulation is kicking in. A RHN KB article (RHN login required) mentions a problem impacting PE r620 and r720 servers not running the Performance profile, and recommends an update to a kernel released two weeks ago. ...Except we are running the Performance profile... Everything I can find online is running me in circles here. What's the heck is going on?

• How to start networking on a wired interface before logon in Ubuntu Desktop Edition

  Problem Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition (and possibly previous versions as well, I haven't tested them) has no network connections after boot until at least 1 user logs in. This means any services that require networking (e.g. openssh-server) are not available until someone logs in locally either via gdm, kdm, or a TTY. Background Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition uses the NetworkManager service to take commands from the nm-applet in Gnome (or it's equivalent in KDE). As I understand it, while NetworkManager is running at boot, it is not issued any commands to connect until you login for the first time because nm-applet isn't running until you login and your Gnome session starts (or similar for KDE). I'm not sure what prompts NetworkManager to connect to the network when you login via a TTY. There are several relevant variables involved in starting up the network connections including: Wired vs Wireless (and the resulting drivers, SSID, passwords, and priorities) Static vs DHCP Multiple interfaces Constraints Support Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (bonus points for additional supported versions) Support wired eth0 interface Receive an IP address via DHCP Receive DNS information via DHCP (obviously the DHCP server must provide this information) Enable networking at the proper time (e.g. some time after file systems are loaded but before network services like ssh start) Switching distros or versions (e.g. to Server Edition) is not an acceptable solution Switching to a Static IP configuration is not an acceptable solution Question How to start networking on a wired interface before logon in Ubuntu Desktop Edition? What I have tried Per this guide, adding the following entry into /etc/network/interfaces so that NetworkManager won't manage the eth0 interface: auth eth0 iface inet dhcp After reboot eth0 is down. Issuing ifconfig eth0 up brings the interface up but it receives no IP address. Issuing dhclient eth0 instead Does bring up the interface and it Does receive an IP address. Completely removing the NetworkManager package in addition to the settings above. I'm a bit confused with the whole UpStart/SysVinit mangling that's going in Ubuntu currently (I'm more familiar with the CentOS world). However, directly issuing sudo /etc/init.d/networking start Or sudo start networking does not bring up the eth0 interface at all, much less get an IP address. Again I need MySQL because thats what XAMPP uses and because I prefer MySQL regardless. I have a feeling it has something to do with this notest pragma error. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

• VMware Workstation Error: Cannot find a valid peer process

  I am running VMware Workstation 6.1.5 (build-126130) on CentOS 5.3 (Final). One of the guest machines is reporting an error when I try to power on the most recent snapshot. Snapshots further back in the timeline will power on without any problem. Error: Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Others have been reporting it since at least early 2005. The forums say to delete unused lock files and restart any hung VMware processes (or restart the host machine), which I have done. Still no luck. Any other ideas?

  When my Ubuntu Apache server (apache2) starts up I get a warning message that reads: [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts however, the web server is working fine... could anyone explain what I might have wrong in my site's configuration to make it give me this warning? the config file in question (located in /etc/apache2/sites-available) reads like this (details removed for brevity) <VirtualHost *> <Location /mysite> # config details here... </Location> # use the following for authorization <LocationMatch "/mysite/login"> AuthType Basic AuthName "My Site" AuthUserFile /etc/sitepasswords/passwd Require valid-user </LocationMatch> </VirtualHost> Could the fact that I'm using <Location> be a part of the problem?

  Can someone please help as i've spent all day trying to fix this. I installed the latest XAMPP and now i can't connect to mysql from terminal.I checked my .profile file and the PATH seems ok.   I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa 1538 laptops and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (Kernel 2.6.32). Main problem is that the fans of the notebook are always on even when the temperature is low. Another problem is that the display brightness can not be adjusted.
