  • Visio 2010 Reverse Engineer Oracle

    I have used Visio 2007 in the past to reverse engineer Oracle databases to get a flow scheme. I believe all Office 2007 products were x86 as well which is where I suspect my issue currently lies. I have since upgraded to Visio 2010 x64 and when I go to reverse engineer something from Oracle it shows up under Installed Visio Drivers but I can't seem to create a data source using it. My assumption here is it is because Oracle doesn't play nicely with x64 and with Visio being compiled as x64 I don't even get the option to use it. Has anyone done this with Visio 2010 x64 and Oracle yet? Or are there other tools you would recommend to reverse engineer and get a model such as the one generated by Visio?

  • OpenWorld Day 1

    A Day in the Life of an OpenWorld Attendee Part I Lots of people are blogging insightfully about OpenWorld so I thought I would provide some non-insightful remarks to buck the trend! With 50,000 attendees I didn’t expect to bump into too many people I knew, boy was I wrong!  I walked into the registration area and immediately was hailed by a couple of customers I had worked with a few months ago.  Moving to the employee registration area in a different hall I bumped into a colleague from the UK who was also registering.  As soon as I got my badge I bumped into a friend from Ireland!  So maybe OpenWorld isn’t so big after all! First port of call was Larrys Keynote.  As always Larry was provocative and thought provoking.  His key points were announcing the Oracle cloud offering in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, pointing out that Fusion Apps are cloud enabled and finally announcing the 12c Database, making a big play of its new multi-tenancy features.  His contention was that multi-tenancy will simplify cloud development and provide better security by providing DB level isolation for applications and customers. Next day, Monday, was my first full day at OpenWorld.  The first session I attended was on monitoring of OSB, very interesting presentation on the benefits achieved by an Illinois area telco – US Cellular.  Great discussion of why they bought the SOA Management Packs and the benefits they are already seeing from their investment in terms of improved provisioning and time to market, as well as better performance insight and assistance with capacity planning. Craig Blitz provided a nice walkthrough of where Coherence has been and where it is going. Last night I attended the BOF on Managed File Transfer where Dave Berry replayed Oracles thoughts on providing dedicated Managed File Transfer as part of the 12c SOA release.  Dave laid out the perceived requirements and solicited feedback from the audience on what if anything was missing.  He also demoed an early version of the functionality that would simplify setting up MFT in SOA Suite and make tracking activity much easier. So much for Day 1.  I also ran into scores of old friends and colleagues and had a pleasant dinner with my friend from Ireland where I caught up on the latest news from Oracle UK.  Not bad for Day 1!

  • Closing the Gap: 2012 IOUG Enterprise Data Security Survey

    The new survey from the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) titled "Closing the Security Gap: 2012 IOUG Enterprise Data Security Survey," uncovers some interesting trends in IT security among IOUG members and offers recommendations for securing data stored in enterprise databases. "Despite growing threats and enterprise data security risks, organizations that implement appropriate detective, preventive, and administrative safeguards are seeing significant results," finds the report's author, Joseph McKendrick, analyst, Unisphere Research. Produced by Unisphere Research and underwritten by Oracle, the report is based on responses from 350 IOUG members representing a variety of job roles, organization sizes, and industry verticals. Key findings include Corporate budgets increase, but trailing. Though corporate data security budgets are increasing this year, they still have room to grow to reach the previous year’s spending. Additionally, more than half of respondents say their organizations still do not have, or are unaware of, data security plans to help address contingencies as they arise. Danger of unauthorized access. Less than a third of respondents encrypt data that is either stored or in motion, and at the same time, more than three-fifths say they send actual copies of enterprise production data to other sites inside and outside the enterprise. Privileged user misuse. Only about a third of respondents say they are able to prevent privileged users from abusing data, and most do not have, or are not aware of, ways to prevent access to sensitive data using spreadsheets or other ad hoc tools. Lack of consistent auditing. A majority of respondents actively collect native database audits, but there has not been an appreciable increase in the implementation of automated tools for comprehensive auditing and reporting across databases in the enterprise. IOUG RecommendationsThe report's author finds that securing data requires not just the ability to monitor and detect suspicious activity, but also to prevent the activity in the first place. To achieve this comprehensive approach, the report recommends the following. Apply an enterprise-wide security strategy. Database security requires multiple layers of defense that include a combination of preventive, detective, and administrative data security controls. Get business buy-in and support. Data security only works if it is backed through executive support. The business needs to help determine what protection levels should be attached to data stored in enterprise databases. Provide training and education. Often, business users are not familiar with the risks associated with data security.   • Pull info from Excel Spreadsheet into C# Web Application

    I want to show information from an excel spreadsheet in a web page. The xls will have maybe 5 columns, and as many rows as needed. The columns will be 'Name', 'Created Date', 'Expired Date', 'Owner', and maybe down the road maybe more. What I would like is for the C# to nightly read the xls, and display the information in a table on the website. If there is a PDF available for download I am going to link that as well.   • Can Flash AS3 listbox data contain variable info?

    I'm populating a listbox like this: dp.addItem( {label:"red dress", data:"OV4MP/23OL.swf"} ); Instead of data:"OV4MP/23OL.swf", I would like to make part of the data file name a variable from a dynamic textbox named centerPt that belongs to the parent movieclip, so I did this: dp.addItem( {label:"red dress", data:"OV4MP/23"+MovieClip(parent.parent).centerPt.text+".swf"} ); When I trace the selectedItem.data using: trace("you have selected: "+ overlays.selectedItem.data); trace(MovieClip(parent.parent).centerPt.text); I'm getting: you have selected: OV4MP/23.swf. What I should get is OV4MP/23OL.swf. It is not picking up what is in the dynamic centerPt.text field which are the letters OL eventhough that text field is tracing correctly. Is it possible that data can not hold a variable? Thank you in advance for any help. Anne

So far I have this as my jquery code $('#main').find('.sub_main').each( function() { alert('hi'); }); The alert is just a test that it should show "hi" twice. But this is not working. I am also not clear on how I can store the two inputs in a javascript array. Any help would be great! Thanks,

    I am using JAX-WS. I am connecting to .NET webservice that requires authentication. I first call the Authentication.asmx so that I can be authenticated. The call returns me a LoginResult that contains a cookie name. Then I call another webservice and I need to somehow pass this cookie or a cookie name. and I don't know how.   • Solving Inbound Refinery PDF Conversion Issues, Part 1

    Working with Inbound Refinery (IBR)  and PDF Conversion can be very frustrating. When everything is working smoothly you kind of forgot it is even there. Documents are cheeked into WebCenter Content (WCC), sent to IBR for conversion, converted to PDF, returned to WCC, and viola your Office documents have a nice PDF rendition available for viewing. Then a user checks in a bunch of password protected Word files, the conversions fail, your IBR queue starts backing up, users start calling asking why their document have not been released yet, and your spend a frustrating afternoon trying to recover and get things back running properly again. Password protected documents are one cause of PDF conversion failures, and I will cover those in a future blog post, but there are many other problems that can cause conversions to fail, especially when working with the WinNativeConverter and using the native applications, e.g. Word, to convert a document to PDF. There are other conversion options like PDFExportConverter which uses Oracle OutsideIn to convert documents directly to PDF without the need for the native applications. However, to get the best fidelity to the original document the native applications must be used. Many customers have tried PDFExportConverter, but have stayed with the native applications for conversion since the conversion results from PDFExportConverter were not as good as when the native applications are used. One problem I ran into recently, that at least has a easy solution, are Word documents that display a Show Repairs dialog when the document is opened. If you open the problem document yourself you will see this dialog. This will cause the conversion to time out. Any time the native application displays a dialog that requires user input the conversion will time out. The solution is to set add a setting for BulletProofOnCorruption to the registry for the user running Word on the IBR server. See this support note from Microsoft for details. The support note says to set the registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but since we are running IBR as a service the correct location is under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT. Also since in our environment we were using Office 2007, the correct registry key to use was: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options Once you have done this restart the IBR managed server and resubmit your problem document. It should now be converted successfully. For more details on IBR see the Oracle® WebCenter Content Administrator's Guide for Conversion.

  • Pulling info from database and dynamically adding them into different divs

    This may be a bit of a php n00b question but i've managed to get it working this far and I'm a little bit stuck. I'm pulling 12 images with descriptions out of a database. I want to insert them into a client rotator that has 3 sets of 4. They will be contained in divs called clientrotate1, clientrotate2, and clientrotate3 respectively. Inside each of those divs I want to have 4 images with classes thumb1, thumb2, thumb3, and thumb4 I am successful in having the images and descriptions pull into clientrotator 1. Where I get stuck is to how to dynamically add the 2nd and 3rd set of data into clientrotator2 and clientrotator3.
