• Firebug error causing code to fail in Sitecore when using IE8 to view the Content Editor

  Hi, I have a Sitecore 6 CMS with a custom data provider to create child items on the fly based on items added to a field in the parent item. This was working okay (about a week ago was the last time I was working on this project), but now I am getting errors in the web client which are originating in the FirebugLite html and JS files. Basically, I click on a content item, the FirebugLite js fails, and then my code in my custom data provider fails to run. I would have thought any FirebugLite scripts would be disabled or ignored when running under IE8 (isn't FirebugLite a Firefox addin?) When I remove the FirebugLite folder from ..\sitecore\shell\Controls\Lib\ my code runs fine and I don't get the clientside errors. I'm not really sure what my question is. I guess it is should FirebugLite affect IE8? What am I missing out on if I remove FirebugLite from the Sitecore directory tree? I'm running WindowsXP SP3, VS2008.   hi! imagine there are two interfaces arranged via composite pattern, one of them has a dispose method among other methods: interface IComponent extends ILeaf { ... function dispose() : void; } interface ILeaf { ... } some implementations have some more things in common (say an id) so there are two more interfaces: interface ICommonLeaf extends ILeaf { function get id() : String; } interface ICommonComponent extends ICommonLeaf, IComponent { } so far so good. but there is another interface which also has a dispose method: interface ISomething { ... function dispose() : void; } and ISomething is inherited by ICommonLeaf: interface ICommonLeaf extends ILeaf, ISomething { function get id() : String; } As soon as the dispose method is invoked on an instance which implements the ICommonComponent interface, the compiler fails with an ambiguous reference error because ISomething has a method called dispose and ILeaf also has a dispose method, both living in different interfaces (IComponent, ISomething) within the inheritace tree of ICommonComponent. I wonder how to deal with the situation if the IComponent, the ILeaf and the ISomething can't change. the composite structure must also work for for the ICommonLeaf & ICommonComponent implementations and the ICommonLeaf & ICommonComponent must conform to the ISomething type. this might be an actionscript-3 specific issue. i haven't tested how other languages (for instance java) handle stuff like this.

• Show progress during a long Ajax call

  I have a simple web site (http://www.kousenit.com/twitterfollowervalue) that computes a quantity based on a person's Twitter followers. Since the Twitter API only returns followers 100 at a time, a complete process may involve lots of calls. At the moment, I have an Ajax call to a method that runs the Twitter loop. I call the controller via an Ajax call using the prototype library: On my web page, in the header section (JavaScript): function displayTTFV() { new Ajax.Updater('ttfv','renderTTFV.groovy', {}); } and there's a div in the body of the page that updates when the call is complete. Everything is working, but the updateFollowers method can take a fair amount of time. Is there some way I could return a progress value? For example, I'd like to update the web page on every iteration. I know ahead of time how many iterations there will be. I just can't figure out a way to update the page in the middle of that loop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Programmatically change an EditorGrid's cell value

  Hi, I have an Editor Grid where if a specific cell is in focus (is being edited), a window containing a tree panel pops up allowing the user to choose a node from the treepanel as the new value of the cell. This way, the user isn't actually editing the cell in question, but is using the window to choose the new value. However, I am having difficulties setting the value of the cell in question programmatically. • Why am I getting "(304) Not Modified" error on some links when using HttpWebRequest?

  Hi, Any ideas why on some links that I try to access using HttpWebRequest I am getting "The remote server returned an error: (304) Not Modified." in the code? The code I'm using is from Jeff's post here. Note the concept of the code is a simple proxy server, so I'm pointing my browser at this locally running piece of code, which gets my browsers request, and then proxies it on by creating a new HttpWebRequest, as you'll see in the code. It works great for most sites/links, but for some this error comes up. You will see one key bit in the code is where it seems to copy the http header settings from the browser request to it's request out to the site, and it copies in the header attributes.   I want to perform a multi field search on a lucene.net index but filter the results based on one of the fields. • getting maps to accept a dynamically generated KML file?

  Hi. I have a button that launches the google maps app on my device via an intent. I want to be able to pass it a php page that generates a KML file. I have done this on a website before using the googlemaps api in JS - but it doesn't seem to work on Android. • Nothing gets displayed when debugging Microsoft Surface

  I am trying to write my first Microsoft Surface application, and am doing the development on the Surface unit itself. I successfully re-created the quick "Photos" application that is shown on the PDC Video, however, now that I'm trying to create my own app - nothing actually shows up when I run it. I'm mainly just adding ScatterViews right now - and they show up fine in the designer, but as soon as I hit F5 - the shell is shown on the surface - but none of the ScatterViews show up. Here's my xaml code so far. • Parsing Strings ( .crt files )

  Base Knowledge : I have a .crt file ( certification authoritie file ) and he is composed of many fields but in one line that resumes this question i have this : Certificate: ...(alot of stuff before)... Subject: C=US, ST=Maryland, L=Pasadena, O=Brent Baccala, OU=FreeSoft, CN=www.freesoft.org/[email protected] Subject Public Key Info: ...(alot of stuff after) and i need to parse the file to populate a .csv file and i have that done the problem that i need help is, i need to get the field: CN=www.fresoft.org but when i get this kind of CN=...(Value instead of the ...) with alot of slashes i get a error in the parsing like the raw string is: CN=foo/bar/the/hell/emailAddress=blablabla and i need only: foo/bar/the/hell and for a moment i got that in the correct column but when i dont have the emailAddress something just fail in my parsing and i then get in my CN .csv column the information wrong instead of |CN| foo/bar/the/hell i get: |CN| OU=FreeSoft, foo/bar/the/hell. • Python: slow read & write for millions of small files

  I am building directory tree which has tons of subdirectories and files. The total directory count is somewhere along 256^32 subdirectories with 256 files in each end which are only a few bytes long. I did this so I would have fast access to these files (since i'm not searching and i'm just directly accessing then via a known file path) I have a python script that builds this filesystem and reads & writes those files. The problem is that when I reach more than 1Gb of total filesize, the read and write methods become extremely slow. Here's the function I have that reads the contents of a file (the file contains an integer string), adds a certain number to it, then writes it back to the original file. def addInFile(path, scoreToAdd): num = scoreToAdd try: shutil.copyfile(path, '/tmp/tmp.txt') fp = open('/tmp/tmp.txt', 'r') num += int(fp.readlines()[0]) fp.close() except: pass fp = open('/tmp/tmp.txt', 'w') fp.write(str(num)) fp.close() shutil.copyfile('/tmp/tmp.txt', path) I previously tried performing linux console commands but it was slower. I copy the file to a temporary file first then access/modify it then copy it back because i found this was faster than directly accessing the file. I think the cause of the slowdown is because there're tons of files. performing this function 1000 times sometimes reach 1 minute now, but before (when there were only a few files, 1000 calls was performed for only less than 1 second) How do you suggest I fix this?

• How can I visualise a "broken" hierarchical dataset?

(The 2,3,4, etc refers to the boss at that particular grade). The system relies on a strict hierarchy - if you are my boss (/parent) then your boss must be my grandparent. Unfortunately this rule is not enforced within the data model and the data ultimately comes from other systems which don't even know about the rule, let alone observe it. So you and I may share the same boss, but our bosses boss won't be the same. note: I cannot change the data model I cannot fix the data at source. So (for the moment) I have to fix the data once it's in place. Once a fortnight someone will do something which breaks the model and I'll need to modify the procs slightly to resolve. Not ideal, but I'm stuck with this for the next six months. Anyway, specific queries are easy to produce but I find it hard to keep track of the bigger picutre. The application which sits on this runs without complaint regardless but navigating around the system becoming extraordinarily confusing. So my question is: Can anyone recommend a tool (or technique) for generating some kind of "broken tree" diagram in this sort of circumstances? I don't want something that will fix things for me, or attempt statistical analysis but at least something that will give a visual indication of how broken it is at any one time. Note : At the moment this is in a SQL Server database but I'm open to ideas utilising C#, Perl or Python.

  I need to automatically download the current Wall Street Journal Prime Rate and load the data into my database. What is the best method for downloading this data automatically? I have come up with three possible solutions for doing this: Scrape a HTML web page from WSJ. Parse a RSS news feed from WSJ. Use some API that I haven't found from WSJ. Regarding solution 1, although I don't like solution 1 since it could easily break, it's the only one that I have worked out from end to end. If anyone knows of a web service or other API for checking money rates, then please let me know.

  Searching with mutltiple Parameters In my app I would like to allow the user to do complex searches based on several parameters, using a simple syntax similar to the GMail functionality when a user can search for "in:inbox is:unread" etc. However, GMail does a POST with this information and I would like the form to be a GET so that the information is in the URL of the search results page. Therefore I need the parameters to be formatted in the URL. Requirements: Keep the URL as clean as possible Avoid the use of invalid URL chars such as square brackets Allow lots of search functionality Have the ability to add more functions later. I know StackOverflow allows the user to search by multiple tags in this way: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/c+sql However, I'd like to also allow users to search with multiple additional parameters. Initial Design My design is currently to do use URLs such as these: http://example.com/search/tagged/c+sql/searchterm/transactions http://example.com/search/searchterm/transactions http://example.com/search/tagged/c+sql http://example.com/search/tagged/c+sql/not-tagged/java http://example.com/search/tagged/c+sql/created/yesterday http://example.com/search/created_by/user1234 I intend to parse the URL after the search parameter, then decide how to construct my search query. Has anyone seen URL parameters like this implemented well on a website? If so, which do it best?

  I have tested this on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate in IE7 and IE8 (in all compatiblity modes) and it fails the same way on both. I am running the latest HEAD from the the couchapp repository. This works fine on my OSX 10.6.3 development machine. I have tested with Chrome 4.1.249.1064 (45376) and Firefox 3.6 and they both work fine.   I am currently updating a java-based web application which allows database developers to create stored procedure regression test suites for database testing. Currently, for test setup, execution and clean-up stages, the user is provided with text boxes where they are able to enter SQL code which is executed by the isql command. I would like to extend the application to use DB Unit’s DatabaseOperation methods to provide more ways to setup the state of the database than just SQL statements. The main reason for using Db Unit rather than just SQL statements is to be able to create and store xml and xls DataSets on a server where they can be associated with their test cases and used for data setup. My question is: How can I provide users with the functionality of the DBUnit DatabaseOperation methods from a web interface? I have considered: Creating a simple programming language and a parser to read some simple syntax involving the DB Unit method names which accept a parameter being the file location to an xml or xls DataSet. I was thinking of allowing the user to register the files they need with the web app which would catalogue them and provide each file with an identifier which could passed as a parameter to the methods in this simple programming language. Creating an XML DTD which provides the user with the ability to specify operations and parameters. If I went this approach, how can I execute the methods and their parameters that I parse from the XML document? Creating a table in the database which stores the method and a FK relation to a catalogued DataSet file, however I don’t think this would be good solution due to the fact that data entry would be tedious.   I'm working on a PHP contact form, but I can't get it to work. I get the following error in the Apache server log, running on an Ubuntu Server VM: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/matthew/Sites/contactFormResponse.php on line 75, referer: http://192.168.1.4/contactForm.php From googling this error, it sounds like it's normally caused by either using the short PHP tag when the server's not set up to recognise them, or by having a block of code that isn't closed correctly. But as far as I can see that isn't the case here - as far as I can see it's all closed correctly. • I am totally unable to add a fileTree (JQuery fileTree addon) to my asp.net page

  okay, so i have an asp.net (C#) application and i want to add a list of file and folders on the page, so i figured i should use JQuery fileTree (http://abeautifulsite.net/2008/03/jquery-file-tree/#download) but now i am totally unable to display the file list.   Hi. I have just been introduced to the semantic web and it's family of functions but I have a hard time understanding some of it, which I was hoping someone could explain to me. As far as I've understood, RDF can be written in several syntaxes. RDF/XML, Turtle, etc. Now, I understand XML. How it is presented and how it can be parsed. However, some people write in the turtle syntax, but how do they parse that information? I can't seem to find a single library for any language to "extract" the information written in a turtle syntax into another form. The same goes for N3. How can it be used? Executed or else? I seem to be able to understand RDFa. That it is a way to implement RDF into XHTML. For me that is a way to implement RDF into "something". But how can I compare that to turtle, N3, or the like? • WYSIWYG in Doxygen

  I'm working on a fairly large project written in C. The idea was to build a library of modular blocks that can be reused across several platforms. Each module is assocaited with a word document in .docx format (huge pain to diff-merge). In these docs, an interface section is specified, listing datatypes and publicly accessable functions. These were often inconsistant with the actual implementation in code, and wading through all this documentation was a pain. I've been working to switch to doxygen to simplify document managemnet. I haven't found a good way to embed the previously written documentation into the doxygen output. I've copy-pasted them into sections and used modules to group the sources together, but the document sections look ugly in the comments (the output is pretty) and since doxygen takes a while to parse through our code (about 30 mins), validating formatting is a pain. Is there some way to WYSIWIG large blocks of documentation into doxygen? I feel this would improve the number of people documenting their code, and the quality of that documentation. I considered linking to html, but that splits out the documentation. I also considered putting them inline in html, but this also seems like a pain and would mean everyone needs a WYSIWIG HTML edditor (or some html skillz). Any ideas on how to make things easier and prettier? Thanks loads.
