• extract specific element from nested elements using lxml html

  Hi all I am having some problems that I think can be attributed to xpath problems. I am using the html module from the lxml package to try and get at some data. I am providing the most simplified situation below, but keep in mind the html I am working with is much uglier. <table> <tr> <td> <table> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td> <table> <tr><td><u><b>Header1</b></u></td></tr> <tr><td>Data</td></tr> </table> </td></tr> </table> </td></tr> </table> What I really want is the deeply nested table, because it has the header text "Header1". I am trying like so: from lxml import html page = '...' tree = html.fromstring(page) print tree.xpath('//table[//*[contains(text(), "Header1")]]') but that gives me all of the table elements. I just want the one table that contains this text. I understand what is going on but am having a hard time figuring out how to do this besides breaking out some nasty regex. Any thoughts?

• Troubles Iterating Over A HashMap with JSF, MyFaces & Facelets

  Hi all, I'm having some trouble looping over a HashMap to print out it's values to the screen. Could someone double check my code to see what I'm doing wrong. I can't seem to find anything wrong but there must be something. In a servlet, I am adding the following to the request: Map<String, String> facetValues = new HashMap<String, String>(); // Filling the map req.setAttribute(facetField.getName(), facetValues); In one case "facetField.getName()" evaluates to "discipline". So in my page I have the following: <ui:repeat value="${requestScope.discipline}" var="item"> <li>Item: <c:out value="${item}"/>, Key: <c:out value="${item.key}"/>, Value: <c:out value="${item.item}"/></li> </ui:repeat> The loop is ran once but all the outputs are blank?!? I would have at least expected something in item if it's gone over the loop once. Checking the debug popup for Facelets, discipline is there and on the loop. Printing it to the screen results in something that looks like a map to me (I've shortened the output) : {300=0, 1600=0, 200=0, ... , 2200=0} I've also tried with a c:forEach but I'm getting the same results. So does anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong? Thanks for any input, Lee

• Checking for Repeated Strings in 2d list

  i have a program where i have a list of names and classes. i have the list in alphabetical order. now im trying to check if names repeat, add the classes to one single name. im trying to write some code like go through names if name is already in list, add the class to the one name. so an example would be, instead of having 'Anita ','phys 1443', and 'Anita','IE 3312' i would just have 'Anita','PHYS 1443','IE 3312'.   I think I hit a problem when using C# client to consume Google App Engine Webservice. The Google App Engine code I use is here.   Is there anything else that the code must do to sanitize identifiers (table, view, column) other than to wrap them in double quotation marks and "double up" and double quotation marks present in the identifier name? References would be appreciated. I have inherited a code base that has a custom object-relational mapping (ORM) system. SQL cannot be written in the application but the ORM must still eventually generate the SQL to send to the SQL Server. All identifiers are quoted with double quotation marks. string QuoteName(string identifier) { return "\" + identifier.Replace("\"", "\"\"") + "\""; } If I were building this dynamic SQL in SQL, I would use the built-in SQL Server QUOTENAME function: declare @identifier nvarchar(128); set @identifier = N'Client"; DROP TABLE [dbo].Client; --'; declare @delimitedIdentifier nvarchar(258); set @delimitedIdentifier = QUOTENAME(@identifier, '"'); print @delimitedIdentifier; -- "Client""; DROP TABLE [dbo].Client; --" I have not found any definitive documentation about how to escape quoted identifiers in SQL Server. I have found Delimited Identifiers (Database Engine) and I also saw this stackoverflow question about sanitizing. If it were to have to call the QUOTENAME function just to quote the identifiers that is a lot of traffic to SQL Server that should not be needed. The ORM seems to be pretty well thought out with regards to SQL Injection. It is in C# and predates the nHibernate port and Entity Framework etc. All user input is sent using ADO.NET SqlParameter objects, it is just the identifier names that I am concerned about in this question. This needs to work on SQL Server 2005 and 2008.

To make the problem interesting, you have to fix the above code, by changing exactly one character. There are three known solutions. See if you can get all those three. I cannot figure out how to solve. I know that it can be fixed by changing -- to ++, but I can't figure out what single character to change to make it work.

  Currently I am using MySQLi to parse a CSV file into a Database, that step has been accomplished. However, My next step would be to make this Database searchable and automatically updated via jQuery.ajax(). Some people suggest that I print out the Database in another page and access it externally. I'm quite new to jquery + ajax so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. I understand that the documentation on ajax should be enough to tell me what I'm looking for but it appears to talk only about retrieving data from an external file, what about from a mysql database? • Why do Unicode characters show up properly in database, but as ? when printed in Java via Hibernate?

  I'm writing a webapp, and interfacing with MySQL using Hibernate 3.5. Using "?????? ?????????" as my test string, I can input the string and see that it is properly persisted into the database. However, when I later pull the value out of the database and print to the console as a String, I see "?????? ?????????". If I use new OutputStreamWriter(System.out,"UTF-8"); then I get "„Éá„Çp„ÇØ„Éà„ÉÉ„Éó ·Éò·Éú·Éí·Éö·Éò·É°·É£·É†·Éò"". Why don't I see the original string? These are my hibernate.cfg.xml settings: <property name="hibernate.connection.useUnicode"> true </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.characterEncoding"> UTF-8 </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.charSet"> UTF-8 </property> and this is my database connection string: hibernate.connection.url = jdbc:mysql://localhost/mydatabase?autoReconnect=true&amp;useUnicode=true&amp;characterEncoding=UTF-8

  In one of my main( or primary) routines,I have two or more hashes. I want the subroutine foo() to recieve these possibly-multiple hashes as distinct hashes. Right now I have no preference if they go by value, or as references. I am struggling with this for the last many hours and would appreciate help, so that I dont have to leave perl for php! In this file, it should execute a SQL command or a SQL file on my database, so I can create an index and see what the performance of that input is, but how do i do it? I create the connection to the database in the reads.py file, but it's hard to create the queries in there because I doesn't keep track of which file it has reached, it just execute commands from what the parameters are. I hope I've explained myself clear enough, otherwise please let me know. I just want to execute a SQL command or file which each query_read_0x.py file. Sincerely Mestika

  I wanted to learn how to create python packages, so I visited http://docs.python.org/distutils/index.html. For this exercise I'm using Python 2.6.2 on Windows XP. I followed along with the simple example and created a small test project: person/ setup.py person/ __init__.py person.py My person.py file is simple: class Person(object): def __init__(self, name="", age=0): self.name = name self.age = age def sound_off(self): print "%s %d" % (self.name, self.age) And my setup.py file is: from distutils.core import setup setup(name='person', version='0.1', packages=['person'], ) I ran python setup.py sdist and it created MANIFEST, dist/ and build/. Next I ran python setup.py install and it installed it to my site packages directory. I run the python console and can import the person module, but I cannot import the Person class. >>>import person >>>from person import Person Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: cannot import name Person I checked the files added to site-packages and checked the sys.path in the console, they seem ok. Why can't I import the Person class. Where did I go wrong?

• Python: Seeing all files in Hex.

  I am writing a python script which looks at common computer files and examines them for similar bytes, words, double word's. Though I need/want to see the files in Hex, ande cannot really seem to get python to open a simple file in python. • SMO ManagedComputer.ServiceInstances is empty

  I am trying to use SMO (VS 2010, SQL Server 2008) to connect to SQL Server and view the server protocol configuration. I can connect and list the Services and ClientProtocols as well as the account MSSQLSERVER service is running under. However, the ServerInstances collection is empty. The only instance on the target server is the default (MSSQLSERVER), shouldn't that be in the collection? How can I get an instance of it so I can inspect the ServerProtocols collection? • How can I change the precision of printing with the stl?

  This might be a repeat, but my google-fu failed to find it. I want to print numbers to a file using the stl with the number of decimal places, rather than overall precision. So, if I do this: int precision = 16; std::vector<double> thePoint(3); thePoint[0] = 86.3671436; thePoint[0] = -334.8866574; thePoint[0] = 24.2814; ofstream file1(tempFileName, ios::trunc); file1 << std::setprecision(precision) << thePoint[0] << "\\" << thePoint[1] << "\\" << thePoint[2] << "\\"; I'll get numbers like this: 86.36714359999999\-334.8866574\24.28140258789063 What I want is this: 86.37\-334.89\24.28 In other words, truncating at two decimal points. If I set precision to be 4, then I'll get 86.37\-334.9\24.28 ie, the second number is improperly truncated. I do not want to have to manipulate each number explicitly to get the truncation, especially because I seem to be getting the occasional 9 repeating or 0000000001 or something like that that's left behind. I'm sure there's something obvious, like using the printf(%.2f) or something like that, but I'm unsure how to mix that with the stl << and ofstream.

• Can't operator == be applied to generic types in C#?

  According to the documentation of the == operator in MSDN, For predefined value types, the equality operator (==) returns true if the values of its operands are equal, false otherwise. For reference types other than string, == returns true if its two operands refer to the same object. For the string type, == compares the values of the strings. User-defined value types can overload the == operator (see operator). So can user-defined reference types, although by default == behaves as described above for both predefined and user-defined reference types. So why does this code snippet fail to compile? void Compare<T>(T x, T y) { return x == y; } I get the error Operator '==' cannot be applied to operands of type 'T' and 'T'. I wonder why, since as far as I understand the == operator is predefined for all types? Edit: Thanks everybody. I didn't notice at first that the statement was about reference types only. I also thought that bit-by-bit comparison is provided for all value types, which I now know is not correct. But, in case I'm using a reference type, would the the == operator use the predefined reference comparison, or would it use the overloaded version of the operator if a type defined one? Edit 2: Through trial and error, we learned that the == operator will use the predefined reference comparison when using an unrestricted generic type. Actually, the compiler will use the best method it can find for the restricted type argument, but will look no further.   I'm connecting with a SUDS client to a SOAP Server whose wsdl contains manu enumerations like the following: </simpleType> <simpleType name="FOOENUMERATION"> <restriction base="xsd:string"> <enumeration value="ALPHA"><!-- enum const = 0 --> <enumeration value="BETA"/><!-- enum const = 1 --> <enumeration value="GAMMA"/><!-- enum const = 2 --> <enumeration value="DELTA"/><!-- enum const = 3 --> </restriction> </simpleType> In my client I am receiving sequences which contain elements of these various enumeration types. My need is that given a member variable, I need to know all possible enumeration values. Basically I need a function which takes an instance of one of these enums and returns a list of strings which are all the possible values. When I have an instance, running: print type(foo.enumInstance) I get: <class 'suds.sax.text.Text'> I'm not sure how to get the actual simpleType name from this, and then get the possible values from that short of parsing the WSDL myself.
