  Recently a colleague remarked that if he got a List of some type out of the ASP.NET Cache, and changed an item, the Cache item would also change.That is correct. • Published Windows Phone 7 apps: good for the Resume/CV?

  I'm a long time Microsoft developer who has recently started publishing Windows Phone 7 apps to beef up my current C#/.NET skills, and get more direct exposure to WPF/Silverlight, and of course because it is new and cool. So far I've published over 10 apps successfully. Is this a good thing to put on my resume? Does it appear to show a grasp of the latest Microsoft technologies? Any downside seen by potential employers? Would you put this on your resume, if looking for a full time professional Software Engineering position?

• Am I an idealist?

  This is not only a question, this is also a call for help. Since I started my career as a programmer, I always tried to learn from my mistakes. I worked hard to learn best-practices and while I don't consider myself a C++ expert, I still believe I'm not a beginner either. I was recently hired into a company for C++ development. There I was told that my way to work was "against the rules" and that I would have to change my mind. Here are the topics I disagree with my hierarchy (their words): "You should not use separate header files for your different classes. One big header file is both easier to read and faster to compile." "Trying to use different headers is counter-productive : use the same super-set of headers everywhere, and enforce the use #pragma hdrstop to hasten compilation" "You may not use Boost or any other library that uses nested directories to organize its files. Our build-machine doesn't work with nested directories. Moreover, you don't need Boost to create great software." One might think I'm somehow exaggerated things, but the sad truth is that I didn't. That's their actual words. I believe that having separate files enhance maintainability and code-correctness and can fasten compilation time by the use of the proper includes. Have you been in a similar situation? What should I do? I feel like it's actually impossible for me to work that way and day after day, my frustration grows.

• Extremely simple online multiplayer game

  I am considering creating a simple multiplayer game, which focuses on physics and can accommodate up to 30 players per session. Very simple graphics, but smart physics (pushing, weight and gravity, balance) is required. After some research I found a good java script (framework ??) called box2d.js I found the demo to be excellent. this is is kind of physics am looking for in my game. Now, what other frameworks will I need? Node.js?? Prototype.js?? (btw, I found the latest versoin of protoype.js to be released in 2010...?? is this still supported? Should I avoid using it?) What bout HTML 5 and Canvas? would I need them? websockets? Am a beginner in web programming + game programming world. but I will learn fast, am computer science graduate. (but no much web expeience but know essentionals javascript, html, css..). I just need a guiding path to build my game. Thanks

• Disappearring instances of VertexPositionColor using MonoGame

  I am a complete beginner in graphics developing with XNA/Monogame. Started my own project using Monogame 3.0 for WinRT. I have this unexplainable issue that some of the vertices disappear while doing some updates on them. Basically, it is a game with balls who collide with the walls and with each other and in certain conditions they explode. When they explode they disappear. Here is a video demonstrating the issue. I used wireframes so that it is easier to see how vertices are missing. The perfect exploding balls are the ones which are result by user input with mouse clicking. Thanks for the help. The situations is: I draw user primitives with triangle strips using like this graphicsDevice.DrawUserPrimitives<VertexPositionColor>(PrimitiveType.TriangleStrip, circleVertices, 0, primitiveCount); All of the primitives are in the z-plane (z = 0), I thought that it is the culling in action. I tried setting the culling mode to none but it did not help. • New Development Snapshot

  I finally did the work necessary to improve the codegen for finally handlers. More improvements are still possible, but at least most finally handlers will now execute without touching the exception object (and hence without having to do any mapping/stack trace collection work). It also means that assembly file sizes are a little bit smaller and that the debugging experience should be improved (less exception catching & rethrowing). • XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is now officially released.

  XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is a maintenance release. Download is available from Codeplex. Changes were required to fix issues caused by conflicts with a new namespace in DotNetNuke 5.3. as the XML module did not use fully qualified namespaces everywhere. Please upgrade to XML 4.3.5 before upgrading your DNN version to 5.3.1 and above.
