• Drawing a line using openGL does not work

  I am a beginner in OpenGL and tried to write my first program to draw some points and a line. I can see that the window opens with white background but no line is drawn. I was expecting to see red colored (because glColor3f(1.0, 0.0, 0.0);) dots (pixels) and line. But nothing is seen. • trouble running smooth animation in thread only when using key listener

  first time using a forum for coding help so sorry if i post this all wrong. i have more than a few classes i don't think screenManger or core holds the problem but i included them just incase. i got most of this code working through a set of tutorials. but a certain point started trying to do more on my own. i want to play the animation only when i'm moving my sprite. in my KeyTest class i am using threads to run the animation it used to work (poorly) but now not at all pluss it really gunks up my computer. i think it's because of the thread. im new to threads so i'm not to sure if i should even be using one in this situation or if its dangerous for my computer. the animation worked smoothly when i had the sprite bouce around the screen forever. the animation loop played with out stopping. i think the main problem is between the animationThread, Sprite, and keyTest classes, but itcould be more indepth. if someone could point me in the right direction for making the animation run smoothly when i push down a key and stop runing when i let off it would be greatly apriciated. i already looked at this Java a moving animation (sprite) obviously we were doing the same tutorial. but i feel my problem is slightly different. p.s. sorry for the typos. import java.awt.*; • Mac - Flash file not loaded in independent flash player

  Hi, I am working on an independent application to play flash files on Mac. I have already done the same for Linux, and it works flawlessly but on mac for some reason flash is not drawing to my window. It is not throwing any kind of error too. I am using Flash player 10, that would mean that I am using the Core Graphics drawing model. I am able to send mouse events to flash and wrote a sample plugin to check if there was a problem in the context that I was sending, but my sample plugin draws properly to the window. I am getting a call for NPN_InvalidateRect twice and as a response I send an update Event back to flash. I drew a dummy rectangle to check that my context is correct. I have flipped the context to make the origin as top left corner. On doing right click on the debug version of the flash player it shows the following message: "Movie not loaded..." Can anyone give me any idea why is the content not being drawn? I would really appreciate the help, as I have been struggling with it for more than a month now. • Android: Getting Error: Conversion to Dalvik format failed

  I am building an app on android and running into an error and while searching on net, came across your posting on this and changed the eclipse.ini to increase Xms and Xmx params but still this error does not go away. I am using Eclipse IDE for Java with Andrioid SDK 2.1 on Mac OS. Please help or please point me to someone who might know.   I've got a button which when clicked copies and appends the text from a GtkEntry widget into a GtkTextView widget. (This code is a modified version of an example found in the "The Text View Widget" chapter of Foundations of GTK+ Development.) I'm looking to insert a newline character before the text which gets copied and appended, such that each line of text will be on its own line in the GtkTextView widget. How would I do this? I'm brand new to GTK+. • Multi-Threading Question Concerning WPF

  Hello, I'm a newbie to threading, and I don't really know how to code a particular task. I would like to handle a mouse click event on a window that will kick off a while loop in a seperate thread. This thread, which is distinct from the UI thread, should call a function in the while loop which updates a label on the window being serviced by the UI thread. The while loop should stop running when the left mouse button is no longer being pressed. All the loop does is increment a counter, and then repeatedly call the function which displays the updated value in the window. The code for the window and all of the threading is given below (I keep getting some error about STA threading, but don't know where to put the attribute). Also, I'm hoping to use this solution, if it ever works, in another project that makes asynchronous calls elsewhere to a service via wcf, so I was hoping not to make any application-wide special configurations, since I'm really new to multi-threading and am quite worried about breaking other code in a larger program... The application needs to display to the user a different 'window' - dependant on whether this is the first time they've launched the application or not. There seems to be plenty of tutorials online of how to move, resize, etc. the NativeWindow, but I simply want access to the NativeWindow's HTML content. For example, how would I add a new paragraph to that page? I've tried the following: newHtmlLoader.window.opener = window; var doc = newHtmlLoader.window.opener.document.documentElement; Using AIR's Introspector console, ....log(doc) returns [object HTMLHtmlElement]. • Python-How to call up a function from another module?

  I am making a project where I need several modules which are imported into one main module to make a pizza ordering service. Upon finishing this (to a working standard) I decided to re-code it so that the whole order is completed with one tkinter window, now instead of using input(), I use tkinter.Entry() etc. etc. To do this I had to use functions for each step so it is broken up nicely, e.g. the code asks if the user wants pickup or delivery, the user clicks a button which sets some variables and one of the buttons is then configured to say "continue" and the command leads to the next step of the pizza ordering process e.g. getting the name. The problem I have is that when I get past the last function of the first module the configured button has a command to go to a function in the second module, but it says that the command is not defined??? I have tried my way around this but cannot import the configured button variable into the next module, and anything else I tried gave no result, it simply doesn't go to the next module after the first module is done. I have made the main tkinter window in the main module and have it that it will mainloop after importing the other modules so shouldn't the function I want to call upon be defined? How can I get from one function to the next if the latter is in a seperate module? Is this possible or do I have to rethink my approach and if so how? • How to pipe two CORE::system commands in a cross-platform way

  I'm writing a System::Wrapper module to abstract away from CORE::system and the qx operator. I have a serial method that attempts to connect command1's output to command2's input. I've made some progress using named pipes, but POSIX::mkfifo is not cross-platform. My specific questions: Is there an alternative to POSIX::mkfifo that is cross-platform? Win32 named pipes don't work, as you can't open those as regular files, neither do sockets, for the same reasons. The above doesn't quite work; the two threads get spawned correctly, but nothing flows across the pipe. I suppose that might have something to do with pipe deadlocking or output buffering. What throws me off is that when I run those two commands in the actual shell, everything works as expected.

  I'm trying to install .NET 3.5 on my Windows 8 box and it keeps throwing Error 0x800f0922 at me. From what I've read on answers.microsoft.com and StackOverflow I gather the easiest way to fix this is to perform a system refresh, however this will remove all software I've installed from discs. I've just moved house, so I'd rather not do that as I don't know where all the installation media actually are for a lot of my software, so if possible I'd prefer to track down where the problem is actually occurring. (Also, I have a LOT of software installed. It'd take me a long time to reinstall it all, and I unfortunately haven't got that time.) The on-demand error screen sends me to KB2734782 (can't link it as I'm <10 rep), which doesn't help much. • Why does my PowerShell script hang when called in PSEXEC via a batch (.cmd) file?

  I'm trying to remotely execute a PowerShell script using PSEXEC. The PowerShell script is called via a .cmd batch file. The reason we do this is to change the execution policy, run the powershell script then reset the execution policy again: On the remote server do-tasks.cmd looks like: powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" powershell DoTasks.ps1 powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy restricted}" The PowerShell script DoTasks.ps1 just does this for now: Write-Output "Hello World!" Both of these scripts live in c:\windows\system32 (for now) just so they're on the PATH. On the originating server I do this: psexec \\web1928 -u administrator -p "adminpassword" do-tasks.cmd When this runs I get the following response at the command line: c:\Windows\system32>powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" and the script runs no further. I can't ctrl-c to break the script and I just see ^C characters, I can type input from the keyboard and the characters are echoed to console. On the remote server I see that PowerShell.exe and CMD.exe are running in Task Manager's Process tab. If I end these processes then control returns to the command line on the originating server. I have tried this with just a simple .cmd batch file with a @echo hello world and it works just fine. Running do-tasks.cmd on the remote server via an RDP session works ok as well. Why is my remote batch file getting stuck when executing via PSEXEC?

• Enable VRFY verb in Exchange 2007

  Is there a way to enable the VRFY command on the Exchange server. I know this command is a security risk, but the server sits behind a firewall, and is not accessible from the internet. I would just use it as a in-box. The mail traffic would be forwarded from my home coded SMTP server, which would check for the existence of the exchange mailbox with the VRFY command. I only found this on the internet, but this is only for legacy versions of Exhange.

  In Windows 7, I really liked an opportunity to change the position of the windows by pressing hotkeys Win + (Left | Right | Up | Bottom): Win + Left - window attached to the left side Win + Right - window attached to the right side Win + Up - window is maximized Win + Bottom - window in the normal state I’m talking about this: This is really useful hotkeys and really comfortable work with windows. But not all can use Windows 7 right now. When Windows7 was in beta and RC states I really wanted to use this features right now in current Windows version (I had Vista). So I spent my time and wrote this tool. In addition, the tool has functional which can change position of windows (It is useful for laptops, you can move windows with hotkeys). And of course this tool can move windows between monitors. Hot keys can be customized. Interface in English. Now I don’t want to add new functionality, because now I’m using Windows 7 with all functions that this tool have. I wrote this tool on C# with .NET 3.5. You can use this source code for knowing how to work with hotkeys with C#. At first I placed source code on Google Code and then placed it on CodePlex too. So you can download it from one of them. I would be glad if someone will use it. :)

Submit token via AJAX For browser side, once server side turns on anti-forgery validation for HTTP POST, all AJAX POST requests will fail by default. Problem In AJAX scenarios, the HTTP POST request is not sent by form. Take jQuery as an example:$.post(url, { productName: "Tofu", categoryId: 1 // Token is not posted. }, callback); This kind of AJAX POST requests will always be invalid, because server side code cannot see the token in the posted data. Solution Basically, the tokens must be printed to browser then sent back to server. So first of all, HtmlHelper.AntiForgeryToken() need to be called somewhere. Now the browser has token in both HTML and cookie. • Adventures in MVVM &ndash; My ViewModel Base

  More Adventures in MVVM First, I’d like to say: THIS IS NOT A NEW MVVM FRAMEWORK. I tend to believe that MVVM support code should be specific to the system you are building and the developers working on it.  I have yet to find an MVVM framework that does everything I want it to without doing too much.  Don’t get me wrong… there are some good frameworks out there.  I just like to pick and choose things that make sense for me.  I’d also like to add that some of these features only work in WPF.  As of Silveright 4, they don’t support binding to dynamic properties, so some of the capabilities are lost. That being said, I want to share my ViewModel base class with the world.  I have had several conversations with people about the problems I have solved using this ViewModel base.  A while back, I posted an article about some experiments with a “Rails Inspired ViewModel”.  What followed from those ideas was a ViewModel base class that I take with me and use in my projects.  It has a lot of features, all designed to reduce the friction in writing view models. I have put the code out on Codeplex under the project: ViewModelSupport. Finally, this article focuses on the ViewModel and only glosses over the View and the Model.  Without all three, you don’t have MVVM.  But this base class is for the ViewModel, so that is what I am focusing on. Features: Automatic Command Plumbing Property Change Notification Strongly Typed Property Getter/Setters Dynamic Properties Default Property values Derived Properties Automatic Method Execution Command CanExecute Change Notification Design-Time Detection What about Silverlight? Automatic Command Plumbing This feature takes the plumbing out of creating commands.  The common pattern for commands in a ViewModel is to have an Execute method as well as an optional CanExecute method.  To plumb that together, you create an ICommand Property, and set it in the constructor like so: Before public class AutomaticCommandViewModel { public AutomaticCommandViewModel() { MyCommand = new DelegateCommand(Execute_MyCommand, CanExecute_MyCommand); } public void Execute_MyCommand() { // Do something } public bool CanExecute_MyCommand() { // Are we in a state to do something? return true; } public DelegateCommand MyCommand { get; private set; } } With the base class, this plumbing is automatic and the property (MyCommand of type ICommand) is created for you.  The base class uses the convention that methods be prefixed with Execute_ and CanExecute_ in order to be plumbed into commands with the property name after the prefix.  You are left to be expressive with your behavior without the plumbing.  If you are wondering how CanExecuteChanged is raised, see the later section “Command CanExecute Change Notification”. The common pattern (without my base class) is to create a private backing store for the variable and specify a getter that returns the private field.  The setter will set the private field and fire an event that notifies the change, only if the value has changed. Before public class PropertyHelpersViewModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { private string text; public string Text { get { return text; } set { if(text != value) { text = value; RaisePropertyChanged("Text"); } } } protected void RaisePropertyChanged(string propertyName) { var handlers = PropertyChanged; if(handlers != null) handlers(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; } This way of defining properties is error-prone and tedious.  Too much plumbing.  My base class eliminates much of that plumbing with the same functionality: After public class PropertyHelpersViewModel : ViewModelBase { public string Text { get { return Get<string>("Text"); } set { Set("Text", value);} } }   Strongly Typed Property Getters/Setters It turns out that we can do better than that.  We are using a strongly typed language where the use of “Magic Strings” is often frowned upon.  Lets make the names in the getters and setters strongly typed: A refinement public class PropertyHelpersViewModel : ViewModelBase { public string Text { get { return Get(() => Text); } set { Set(() => Text, value); } } }   Dynamic Properties In C# 4.0, we have the ability to program statically OR dynamically.  This base class lets us leverage the powerful dynamic capabilities in our ecosystem. (This is how the automatic commands are implemented, BTW)  By calling Set(“Foo”, 1), you have now created a dynamic property called Foo.  It can be bound against like any static property.  The opportunities are endless.  One great way to exploit this behavior is if you have a customizable view engine with templates that bind to properties defined by the user.  The base class just needs to create the dynamic properties at runtime from information in the model, and the custom template can bind even though the static properties do not exist. All dynamic properties still benefit from the notifiable capabilities that static properties do. For any nay-sayers out there that don’t like using the dynamic features of C#, just remember this: the act of binding the View to a ViewModel is dynamic already.  Why not exploit it?  Get over it :) Just declare the property dynamically public class DynamicPropertyViewModel : ViewModelBase { public DynamicPropertyViewModel() { Set("Foo", "Bar"); } } Then reference it normally <TextBlock Text="{Binding Foo}" />   Default Property Values The Get() method also allows for default properties to be set.  Don’t set them in the constructor.  Set them in the property and keep the related code together: public string Text { get { return Get(() => Text, "This is the default value"); } set { Set(() => Text, value);} }   Derived Properties This is something I blogged about a while back in more detail.  This feature came from the chaining of property notifications when one property affects the results of another, like this: Before public class DependantPropertiesViewModel : ViewModelBase { public double Score { get { return Get(() => Score); } set { Set(() => Score, value); RaisePropertyChanged("Percentage"); RaisePropertyChanged("Output"); } } public int Percentage { get { return (int)(100 * Score); } } public string Output { get { return "You scored " + Percentage + "%."; } } } The problem is: The setter for Score has to be responsible for notifying the world that Percentage and Output have also changed.  This, to me, is backwards.    It certainly violates the “Single Responsibility Principle.” I have been bitten in the rear more than once by problems created from code like this.  What we really want to do is invert the dependency.  Let the Percentage property declare that it changes when the Score Property changes. After public class DependantPropertiesViewModel : ViewModelBase { public double Score { get { return Get(() => Score); } set { Set(() => Score, value); } } [DependsUpon("Score")] public int Percentage { get { return (int)(100 * Score); } } [DependsUpon("Percentage")] public string Output { get { return "You scored " + Percentage + "%."; } } }   Automatic Method Execution This one is extremely similar to the previous, but it deals with method execution as opposed to property.  When you want to execute a method triggered by property changes, let the method declare the dependency instead of the other way around. Before public class DependantMethodsViewModel : ViewModelBase { public double Score { get { return Get(() => Score); } set { Set(() => Score, value); WhenScoreChanges(); } } public void WhenScoreChanges() { // Handle this case } } After public class DependantMethodsViewModel : ViewModelBase { public double Score { get { return Get(() => Score); } set { Set(() => Score, value); } } [DependsUpon("Score")] public void WhenScoreChanges() { // Handle this case } }   Command CanExecute Change Notification Back to Commands.  One of the responsibilities of commands that implement ICommand – it must fire an event declaring that CanExecute() needs to be re-evaluated.  I wanted to wait until we got past a few concepts before explaining this behavior.  You can use the same mechanism here to fire off the change.  In the CanExecute_ method, declare the property that it depends upon.  When that property changes, the command will fire a CanExecuteChanged event, telling the View to re-evaluate the state of the command.  The View will make appropriate adjustments, like disabling the button. DependsUpon works on CanExecute methods as well public class CanExecuteViewModel : ViewModelBase { public void Execute_MakeLower() { Output = Input.ToLower(); } [DependsUpon("Input")] public bool CanExecute_MakeLower() { return !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(Input); } public string Input { get { return Get(() => Input); } set { Set(() => Input, value);} } public string Output { get { return Get(() => Output); } set { Set(() => Output, value); } } }   Design-Time Detection If you want to add design-time data to your ViewModel, the base class has a property that lets you ask if you are in the designer.  You can then set some default values that let your designer see what things might look like in runtime. Use the IsInDesignMode property public DependantPropertiesViewModel() { if(IsInDesignMode) { Score = .5; } }   What About Silverlight? Some of the features in this base class only work in WPF.  As of version 4, Silverlight does not support binding to dynamic properties.  This, in my opinion, is a HUGE limitation.  Not only does it keep you from using many of the features in this ViewModel, it also keeps you from binding to ViewModels designed in IronRuby.  Does this mean that the base class will not work in Silverlight?  No.  Many of the features outlined in this article WILL work.  All of the property abstractions are functional, as long as you refer to them statically in the View.  This, of course, means that the automatic command hook-up doesn’t work in Silverlight.  You need to plumb it to a static property in order for the Silverlight View to bind to it.  Can I has a dynamic property in SL5?     Good to go? So, that concludes the feature explanation of my ViewModel base class.  Feel free to take it, fork it, whatever.  It is hosted on CodePlex.  When I find other useful additions, I will add them to the public repository.  I use this base class every day.  It is mature, and well tested.  If, however, you find any problems with it, please let me know!  Also, feel free to suggest patches to me via the CodePlex site.  :)
