  In C#, what's the best way to get the 1st digit in an int? The method I came up with is to turn the int into a string, find the 1st char of the string, then turn it back to an int. int start = Convert.ToInt32(curr.ToString().Substring(0, 1)); While this does the job, it feels like there is probably a good, simple, math-based solution to such a problem. String manipulation feels clunky. Edit: irrespective of speed differences, mystring[0] instead of Substring() is still just string manipulation

  I making a method that generate a unique string key for some parameters. But the same key if call with same values. I just accept primitive types, string, DateTime, Guid, and Nullable(since I append types together, I can distinguish who is int and who is int?), because I can convert all to string without lost values or precision.(for float and double a use ToString("R"), to DateTime ToString("O")). • Import Data from Excel Spreadsheet or CVS into MySQL

  I have a spreadsheet which really has only one complicated table. I basically convert the spreadsheet to a cvs and use a groovy script to generate the INSERT scripts. However, I cannot do this with a table that has 28 fields with data within some of the fields on the spreadsheet that make importing into the CVS even more complicated. So the fields in the new CVS are not differentiated properly or my script has not accounted for it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better approach to do this? Thanks.

  I am trying to modify a number of environmental variables containing predefined compiler flags. To do so, I tried using a bash loop that goes over all environmental variables listed with "env". for i in $(env | grep ipo | awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} ; { print $1 } ' ) do echo $(sed -e "s/-ipo/ / ; s/-axAVX/ /" <<< $i) done This is not working since the loop variable $i contains just the name of the environmental variable stored as a character string. I tried searching a method to convert a string into a variable but things started becoming unnecessary complicated. The basic problem is how to properly supply the environmental variable itself to sed. Any ideas how to properly modify my script are welcome. Thanks, Alex

  I have a macro which can read the last cell/column of all tables in a Word 2003/2007 document and store the data in an MS-Access table. But, some Word documents have the data in structures like a table format but are not actually tables. The structure looks like a table, but the table borders are actually line connectors. These documents were created by a software(VeryPDF PDF to Word converter) which converted the PDF documents(the original format these documents were) into Word documents. Is there a way I can convert/replace the tabular structures with actual tables in Word so that I can use the macro? Or, is there a way I can read the value of the last column from the tabular structures using some VBA code? Any advice would be appreciated.

  Hi, I'm basically trying to convert a Unix timestamp (the time() function) to a relative date/time that's both compatible with past and future date. So outputs could be: 2 weeks ago 1 hour and 60 minutes ago 15 minutes and 54 seconds ago after 10 minutes and 15 seconds First I tried to code this, but made a huge unmaintainable function, and then I searched the internet for a couple of hours, yet all I can find are scripts that produce only one part of the time (e.h: "1 hour ago" without the minutes).   I have data this is linked from SQL Server into an excel document. The column format on the SQL Server is datetime2. When I get the data via an ODBC connection it comes across as a string? I tried using CAST(column AS DATE ) but that didn't work. I tried reformatting via CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), column, 103) as well but that didn't work. I tried retrieving the data via Microsoft query as well but that didn't work.
