  • what is stack overflow

    - by Dimitris Baltas
    Back in the days as freshmen in University, when programming in C on Unix machines, a "stack overflow" error on run-time would occur causing a lot of thought on what went wrong. What exactly is "stack overflow" in programming? What are the possible reasons for its appearance? Can it occur in all programming languages? Does it have other names?

  • Regex to repeat a capture across a CDL?

    - by richardtallent
    I have some data in this form: @"Managers Alice, Bob, Charlie Supervisors Don, Edward, Francis" I need a flat output like this: @"Managers Alice Managers Bob Managers Charlie Supervisors Don Supervisors Edward Supervisors Francis" The actual "job title" above could be any single word, there's no discrete list to work from. Replacing the ,  with \r\n is easy enough, as is the first replacement: Replace (^|\r\n)(\S+\s)([^,\r\n]*),\s With $1$2$3\r\n$2 But capturing the other names and applying the same prefix is what is eluding me today. Any suggestions?

  • Is Polymorphism and Method Overloading is almost the same thing in C++

    - by Maxood
    In C++, there are 2 types of Polymorphism: Object Polymorphism Function Polymorphism Function polymorphism is exactly the same thing as method or function overloading i.e. We use the same method names with different parameters and return types. Now the question is why do we have this fancy name Polymorphism in OOP? What distinctly distinguishes polymorphism from method overloading? Can someone explain with a scenario. Thanks

  • When will the ValueConverter's Convert method be called in wpf

    - by sudarsanyes
    I have an ObservableCollection bound to a list box and a boolean property bound to a button. I then defined two converters, one that operates on the collection and the other operates on the boolean property. Whenever I modify the boolean property, the converter's Convert method is called, where as the same is not called if I modify the observable collection. What am I missing?? Snippets for your reference, xaml snipet, <Window.Resources> <local:WrapPanelWidthConverter x:Key="WrapPanelWidthConverter" /> <local:StateToColorConverter x:Key="StateToColorConverter" /> </Window.Resources> <StackPanel> <ListBox x:Name="NamesListBox" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Names}"> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <WrapPanel x:Name="ItemWrapPanel" Width="500" Background="Gray"> <WrapPanel.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform x:Name="WrapPanelTranslatation" X="0" /> </WrapPanel.RenderTransform> <WrapPanel.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="WrapPanel.Loaded"> <BeginStoryboard> <Storyboard> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="WrapPanelTranslatation" Storyboard.TargetProperty="X" To="{Binding Path=Names,Converter={StaticResource WrapPanelWidthConverter}}" From="525" Duration="0:0:2" RepeatBehavior="100" /> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </EventTrigger> </WrapPanel.Triggers> </WrapPanel> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid> <Label Content="{Binding}" Width="50" Background="LightGray" /> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> <Button Content="{Binding Path=State}" Background="{Binding Path=State, Converter={StaticResource StateToColorConverter}}" Width="100" Height="100" Click="Button_Click" /> </StackPanel> code behind snippet public class WrapPanelWidthConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { ObservableCollection<string> aNames = value as ObservableCollection<string>; return -(aNames.Count * 50); } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public class StateToColorConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { bool aState = (bool)value; if (aState) return Brushes.Green; else return Brushes.Red; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } }

  • Naming conventions for private members of .NET types

    - by Joan Venge
    Normally when I have a private field inside a class or a struct, I use camelCasing, so it would be obvious that it's indeed private when you see the name of it, but in some of my colleagues' C# code, I see that they use m_ mostly or sometimes _, like there is some sort of convention. Aren't .NET naming conventions prevent you from using underscores for member names? And when you mention the MS naming conventions or what not, they tell you it's the best way, but don't explain the reasoning behind it.

  • iPhone: Set the title of a UIButton with a single method invocation?

    - by Greg Maletic
    I'd like to set the title of a UIButton via code. I find myself having to call -[UIButton setTitle:forState:] for UIControlStateNormal, UIControlStateHighlighted, UIControlStateDisabled, UIControlStateSelected. And that doesn't even take into account all of the combinations of these states together. Needless to say, this is tiresome. Is there a single call I can make that will set one string as the title for all of the states? (Since, I assume that in 95% of the cases, that's the desired behavior?)

  • How do I rename an R object?

    - by Milktrader
    I'm using the quantmod package to import financial series data from Yahoo. library(quantmod) getSymbols("^GSPC") [1] "GSPC" I'd like to change the name of object "GSPC" to "SPX". I've tried the rename function in the reshape package, but it only changes the variable names. The "GSPC" object has vectors GSPC.Open, GSPC.High, etc. I'd like my renaming of "GSPC" to "SPX" to also change GSPC.Open to SPX.Open and so on.

  • .Net Library for parsing source code files?

    - by Jörg Battermann
    Does anyone know of a good .NET library that allows me to parse source code files, but not only .NET source code files (like java, perl, ruby, etc)? I need programmatic access to the contents of various source code files (e.g. class/method /parameter names, types, etc.). Has anyone come across something like this? I know within .NET it is reasonably possible and there are some libraries out there, but I need that to be abstracted to more types of programming languages.

  • Nhibernate One-to-one mapping issue with child object insert error

    - by TalkDotNet
    Hi, i've being banging my head against the desk all day with the following Nhibernate problem. Each bank account has one (and only one) set of rates associated with it. The primary key of the bank account table, BankAccountID is also a foreign key and the primary key in the rates table. public class BankAccount { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual string AccountName { get; set;} public virtual AccountRate AccountRate {get;set;} } public class AccountRate { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate1 { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate2 { get; set; } } I have the following HBM mappings for BankAccount: <class name="BankAccount" table="BankAccount"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="foreign"> <param name="property"> AccountRate </param> </generator> </id> <property name ="AccountName" column="AccountName" /> <one-to-one name="AccountRate" class="AccountRate" constrained="true" cascade="save-update"/> </class> and the following for AccountRate: <class name="AccountRate" table="AccountRate"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="native" /> </id> <property name ="Rate1" column="Rate1" /> <property name ="Rate2" column="Rate2" /> </class> An existing BankAccount object can be read from the database with no problem. However, when a new BankAccount is created , the insert statement fails with; Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BankAccountId' The issue appears to be that the child object , AccountRate is created first and since it hasn't yet got an identifier from its uncreated parent , the insert fails. I think i'm correct in saying that if the AccountRate property on BankAccount was a collection i could use the following ? Inverse=True in order to force the parent to be inserted first. Can anyone help me with this? i Really dont want to use a collection as there is only a unidirectional one to one relationship between these tables. Thanks Paul

  • google-app-engine-django: authentication without Google accounts?

    - by cv12
    google-app-engine-django/ claims to have an "App Engine compatible implementation of the Django authentication framework". Does this authentication work only with Google Accounts? Is it possible to register a user with a username/password and authenticate him/her with that username/password without that user having a Google account? I would appreciate any pointers to how this could be done with google-app-engine-django without Google Accounts authentication.

  • Possible to repair garbled Chinese filenames?

    - by futureelite7
    I'm downloading via FTP some files with chinese names (BIG5 encoded), and Filezilla displays those filenames as garbage (as FTP cannot handle any encoding other than ASCII and UTF-8, as least the standard compliant ones). Given a filename with garbled characters, is it possible for me to repair the encoding and get a proper filename String given that I already know the source encoding? Will the FTP client misinterpreting BIG5 as UTF-8 insert bytes that make conversion back to BIG5 difficult?

  • ASP.NET MVC partial view does not call my Action

    - by Johannes
    I just started building a small simple Website on ASP.NET MVC, in a page I am using a Partial view, the Partial View represents a simple Form which should be submitted on button click, and If I click the first Time it is submitted with success and does return my partial view with my validation Messages (if the content is invalid) but if I wish to try again the Action isn't called again. Any Idea? View: <form action="<%= Url.Action("ChangePassword", "Account") %>" method="post" id="jform"> <div> <fieldset> <legend>Account Information</legend> <p> <label for="currentPassword">Current password:</label> <%= Html.Password("currentPassword") %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("currentPassword") %> </p> <p> <label for="newPassword">New password:</label> <%= Html.Password("newPassword") %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("newPassword") %> </p> <p> <label for="confirmPassword">Confirm new password:</label> <%= Html.Password("confirmPassword") %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("confirmPassword") %> </p> <p> <input type="submit" value="Change Password" /> </p> </fieldset> </div> </form> <!--<% } %>--> </div> <script> $(function() { $('#jform').submit(function() { $('#jform').ajaxSubmit({ target: '#FmChangePassword' }); return false; }); }); /*$(document).ready(function() { $('#jform').live('submit', function() { $.post($(this).attr('action'), $(this).serialize(), function(data) { $("#jform").replaceWith($(data)); }); return false; }); });*/ </script> Part of the Controller: if (!ValidateChangePassword(currentPassword, newPassword, confirmPassword)) { return PartialView(ViewData); }

  • Why use "foo" in coding examples? [closed]

    - by ThePower
    Possible Duplicates: To foo bar, or not to foo bar: that is the question. Bit of a general question here, but it's something I would like to know! Whenever I am looking for resolutions to my C# problems online, I always come across "foo" being used as an example. Does this represent anything or is it just one of those unexplained catchy object names, used by many people in examples?
