• Lightweight use of Enterprise Library TraceListeners

  Is it possible to use the Enterprise Library 4.1 TraceListeners without using the entire Enterprise Library Logging AB? I'd prefer to simply use .NET Diagnostics Tracing, but would like to setup a listener that sends emails on Error events. I figured I could use the Enterprise Library EmailTraceListener. However, my initial attempts to configure it have failed. I figure it's possible to programmatically configure the EmailTraceListener, but I prefer this to be config-driven. I also understand I can implement my own derivative of TraceListener. So, is it possible to use the Ent Lib TraceListeners, without using the whole Ent Lib LAB, and configure them from the config file? Update: After examining the code, I have discovered it is not possible. The Ent Lib TraceListeners do not actually utilize the config attributes they specify in overriding TraceListener.GetSupportedAttributes(), despite the recommendations in the .NET TraceListener documentation. • XSLT Select all nodes containing a specific substing

  I'm trying to write an XPath that will select certain nodes that contain a specific word. In this case the word is, "Lockwood". The correct answer is 3. Both of these paths give me 3. count(//*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')]) count(BusinessLetter/*[contains(../*,'Lockwood')]) But when I try to output the text of each specific node //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][1] //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][2] //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][3] Node 1 ends up containing all the text and nodes 2 and 3 are blank. Can some one please tell me what's happening or what I'm doing wrong. • Do you have suggestions for these assembly mnemonics?

  Greetings! Last semester in college, my teacher in the Computer Languages class taught us the esoteric language named Whitespace. In the interest of learning the language better with a very busy schedule (midterms), I wrote an interpreter and assembler in Python. An assembly language was designed to facilitate writing programs easily, and a sample program was written with the given assembly mnemonics. Now that it is summer, a new project has begun with the objective being to rewrite the interpreter and assembler for Whitespace 0.3, with further developments coming afterwards. Since there is so much extra time than before to work on its design, you are presented here with an outline that provides a revised set of mnemonics for the assembly language. This post is marked as a wiki for their discussion. Have you ever had any experience with assembly languages in the past? Were there some instructions that you thought should have been renamed to something different? Did you find yourself thinking outside the box and with a different paradigm than in which the mnemonics were named? If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you are most welcome here. Subjective answers are appreciated! Stack Manipulation (IMP: [Space]) Stack manipulation is one of the more common operations, hence the shortness of the IMP [Space]. There are four stack instructions. hold N Push the number onto the stack copy Duplicate the top item on the stack copy N Copy the nth item on the stack (given by the argument) onto the top of the stack swap Swap the top two items on the stack drop Discard the top item on the stack drop N Slide n items off the stack, keeping the top item Arithmetic (IMP: [Tab][Space]) Arithmetic commands operate on the top two items on the stack, and replace them with the result of the operation. The first item pushed is considered to be left of the operator. add Addition sub Subtraction mul Multiplication div Integer Division mod Modulo Heap Access (IMP: [Tab][Tab]) Heap access commands look at the stack to find the address of items to be stored or retrieved. • WCF Endpoints & Binding Configuration Issues

  I am running into a very strange issue here folks. For simplicity I created a project for the sole purpose of testing the issue outside the framework of a larger application and still encountered what is either a bug in WCF within Visual Studio 2010 or something related to my WCF newbie skill set : ) Here is the issue: I have a WCF endpoint I created running inside of an MVC3 project called "SimpleMethod". The method runs inside of a .svc file on the root of the application and it returns a bool. Using the "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I have added the endpoint to my Web.Config along with a called "LargeImageBinding". Here is the service: [OperationContract] public bool SimpleMethod() { return true; } And the Web.Config generated by the Config Tool: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="LargeImageBinding" closeTimeout="00:10:00" /> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <services> <service name="WCFEndpoints.ServiceTestOne"> <endpoint address="/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="LargeImageBinding" contract="WCFEndpoints.IServiceTestOne" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name=""> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> The service renders fine and you can see the endpoint when you navigate to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc - Now the issue occurs when I create a separate project to consume the service. I add a service reference to a running instance of the above project, point it to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc Here is the weird part. The service automatically generates just fine but In the Web.Config the endpoint that is generated looks like this: <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne" contract="ServiceTestOne.IServiceTestOne" name="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne"> As you can see it lists the "ServiceTestOne.svc" portion of the address twice! When I make a call to the the service I get the following error: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. I tried removing the extra "/ServiceTestOne.svc" at the end of the endpoint address in the above config, and I get the same exact error. Now what DOES work is if I go back to the WCF application and remove the custom endpoint and binding references in the Web.Config (everything in the "services" and "bindings" tags) then go back to the consumer application, update the reference to the service and make the call to SimpleMethod()....BOOM works like a charm and I get back a bool set to true. The thing is, I need to make custom binding configurations in order to allow for access to the service outside of the defaults, and from what I can tell, any attempt to create custom bindings makes the endpoints seem to run fine, but fail when an actual method call is made. Can anyone see any flaw in how I am putting this together? Thank you for your time - I have been running in circles with this for about a week!

  Hello, We currently have a WCF Service that works over https. But we want to change it to make it work over just http. • Having a problem inserting a foreign key data into a table using a PHP form

  I am newbee with PHP and MySQL and need help... I have two tables (Staff and Position) in the database. The Staff table (StaffId, Name, PositionID (fk)). The Position table is populated with different positions (Manager, Supervisor, and so on). The two tables are linked with a PositionID foreign key in the Staff table. I have a staff registration form with textfields asking for the relevant attributes and a dynamically populated drop down list to choose the position. I need to insert the user's entry into the staff table along with the selected position. However, when inserting the data, I get the following error (Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails). How do I insert the position selected by the user into the staff table? • Unable to edit a database row from JSF

• Socket php server not showing messages sent from android client

  Hi I am a newbie in these kind of stuff but here's what i want to do. I am trying to implement a chat application in which users will send their queries from the website and as soon as the messages are sent by the website users.It will appear in the android mobile application of the site owner who will answer their queries .In short I wanna implement a live chat. Now right now I am just simply trying to send messages from android app to php server. But when I run my php script from dreamweaver in chrome the browser keeps on loading and doesn't shows any output when I send message from the client. Sometimes it happened that the php script showed some outputs which I have sent from the android(client).But i don't know when it works and when it does not. So I want to show those messages in the php script as soon as I send those messages from client and vice versa(did not implemented the vice versa for client but help will be appreciated).   To save trips to sql db in my older apps, I store *dozens of data points about the current user in an array and then store the array in a session. That is something I learned in my asp classic days. Referencing the correct index can be laborsome and I find it difficult to go back and add another data point in the array grouped with like data. For example, suppose I need to add Middle Initial to the array as a design alteration. Unless I redo the whole index mapping, I have to stick Middle Initial in the next open slot, which might be in the 50s. NOW, I am considering doing something easier to reference each time (eliminating the need to know the index of the value wanted). I am afraid this might be less efficient, even though easier to use. I don’t know if a new session object is created for each data point or if there is only one session object, and I am adding a name/value pair to that object? If I am adding a name/value pair to a single object, that seems like a good idea. Does anyone know? Or is there a more preferred way? Built-in Profile class? Re: Profile class I have an internal debate about scope. It seems that the .net Profile class is good for storing app-SPECIFIC user settings (i.e. style theme, object display properties, user role, etc.) The examples I give are information whose values are selected/edited by the user to customize the application experience. This information is not typically stored/edited elsewhere in the app db. But when you have data that 1) is stored already in the app db and 2) can be altered by other users (in this case: company reps may update client's status, address, etc.), then the persistence of the Profile data may be an issue. In this case, the Profile would need to be reset at the beginning and dropped like a session.abandon at the end of each user's session to prevent reloading info that had since been edited by someone. I believe this is possible, but not sure Currently, I use the session array to store both scopes, app-specific and user-specific data. If my session plan is good, I think I will create a class to set/get values from the session also. I appreciate your thoughts. I would like to know how others have handled this type of situation.   The situation We are implementing different sort of security on some WCF service. ClientCertificate, UserName & Password and Anonymous. We have 2 ServiceBehaviorConfigurations, one for httpBinding and one for wsHttpBinding. (We have custom authorization policies for claim based security) As a requirement we need different endpoints for each service. 3 endpoints with httpBinding and 1 with wsHttpBinding. Example for one service: basicHttpBinding : Anonymous basicHttpBinding : UserNameAndPassword basicHttpBinding : BasicSsl wsHttpBinding : BasicSsl The Problem Part 1: We cannot specify the same service twice, once with the http service configuration and once with the wsHttp service configuration. Part 2: We cannot specify service behaviors on an endpoint. (Throws and exception, No endpoint behavior was found...   I have been trying to configure WCF to work with Azure ACS. This WCF configuration has 2 bugs: It does not publish MEX end point. It does not invoke custom behaviour extension. • NTUSER.DAT and UsrClass.dat files building up by the thousands, why and can I delete?

  I've noticed that my web server, 2008 Xen VM, gradually loosing free space - more than I would of though from normal use and decided to investigate. There are two problem areas: *C:\Users\Administrator\ (6,755.0 MB)* with files: NTUSER.DAT{randomness}.TMContainer'0000 randomness'.regtrans-ms NTUSER.DAT{randomness}.TM.blf AND C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ (6,743.8 MB) with files UsrClass.dat{randomness}.TMContainer'0000 randomness'.regtrans-ms UsrClass.dat{randomness}.TM.blf From what I understand these are in-time backups of registry changes. If that is the case I cannot possibly understand why there would be 10000+ changes. (That's how many files there are per folder location, over 20,000 per folder in total.) The files are using almost 15GB of space and I want rid of them, I'm just wondering can I remove them. However, I need to understand why they are being created so I can avoid this in the future. Any ideas why there would be so many? Is there a way I can check to see what is making the modifications? Are they created with login attempts? Are they created in relation to every day Web Server use? etc. and so on

When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? • Coldfusion on VPS, how much JVM heap memory?

  Recently I got a VPS server and I'm running Coldfusion, the website was running fine until it got more and more traffic and I started to encounter 'OutOfMemory' exceptions. I thought simply to rise the memory of the VPS server, but this didn't help. After doing some Google searches I found a setting in de CF Admin settings to set the JVM Heap memory. It was on the standard: Max Heap size 512MB and Min Heap size was empty. After playing around a bit I have now set it to Min 50MB and Max 200MB, good things is that I'm not getting the 'OutOfMemory' exceptions anymore. So far so good! But with about 50 active visitors on the website, the website starts to get slow. The CPU usage is only about 8% (Windows Taskmanager), also the taskmanager show only about 30% of the 3GB RAM in use. So I'm thinking that my values could be tweaked to use more of the RAM. Honestly I don't understand these JVM Memory heap settings, so I have no clue what is a good setting for me. • BSOD Before Windows Will Loads - Graphics Related

  Alright deep breath here: (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw) Today I installed Star Craft 2 Beta. After trying to log in, it had some issues where it said my device stopped working (referring to my video device I have to imagine). After I force quit the game there were some random "hot" (various colors if i remember correctly) pixels on the screen. I decided to reboot and try again with similar results. I figured that maybe my display drivers could stand to be updated (I don't frequently update them as I don't often run into problems). I went out to nVidia's website and grabbed the latest drivers for Windows 7 64 bit GeForce 9 series. (I have SLi-ed 9800 GTs). Everything seemed to install fine and I performed the restart. This is when things went from bad (can't play SC2 beta ;) ) to worse (can't boot into windows!). Initially the very first splash screen - I think it's the bios splash screen - had lines of colored pixels covering it. It then displayed a screen that had lots of "(" on it. After that it showed the normal windows 7 splash screen as if it were going to load into Windows. Before getting much further, it BSODed on me. It was a 0x0000003B stop error. At nvlddmkm.sys. A little digging let verified that this was a problem with an nVidia graphics device, not a real shocker. Windows decided it would try to help me diagnose the problem, which it's only answer to was a System Restore, which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I was able to boot up fine in safe mode and was not able to roll back the driver, however I did uninstall the driver and reboot. I still had the graphical anomalies during the first two screens (same colored "."'s and weird "("'s), but there was NOT a stop error. Windows loaded up, found a default driver for the device and installed it and I restarted to let it load - and had yet another BSOD Stop error. Repeat driver uninstall, this time I reloaded the same version (I think it's possible that I was running a 32 bit version or a vista versus windows 7 version, but I don't have that information handy) of the nVidia driver from their website. Restart, same anomalies, same Stop Error. I am at a loss - At this point all I can think is that the firmware for the Video cards got fried or there's actual damage to the cards which I sincerely hope is not the case but the sooner I know the better. Any insight into what I might be able to do to troubleshoot/fix this problem would be most helpful. Attached below is a dump from DxDiag. • Windows 7: Don't combine Taskbar Icons, but only display Icons

  I've never really liked this feature about Win7, but I guess I just got used to it. The feature I don't like is mousing over the win7 icons when there are multiple windows of the same type open. You have to waste that extra time choosing the window after it pops up and it's just clunky. The XP taskbar was nice, because you didn't have to go through any of this, but it had the problem where you ran out of taskbar space fast. I often resized my taskbar to take care of this. However, on Windows 7, I don't use up even 1/3 of my taskbar. I have all this space I can use, and instead it's all squished to the left, making me take extra steps. Are there any applications I can use to get this desired behavior, or else what route would you recommend to take to write this behavior myself? My first thought would be C# and the Windows taskbar apis. PS. If it's not clear what I'm asking for, please let me know, I'll try to be more specific.

• fsck on LVM snapshots

  I'm trying to do some file system checks using LVM snapshots of our Logical Volumes to see if any of them have dirty file systems. The problem that I have is that our LVM only has one Volume Group with no available space. I was able to do fsck's on some of the logical volumes using a loopback file system. However my question is, is it possible to create a 200GB loopback file system, and saved it on the same partition/logical volume that I'll be taking a snapshot of? Is LVM smart enough to not take a snapshot copy of the actual snapshot? • Subversion and Quickbooks Files

  I currently have a large problem on one of the file servers I manage for an Accounting Firm. Quickbooks has a tendency to create multiple files of the same thing over and over to prevent data loss. This is a good thing when you handle just a few files. But at an accounting firm it becomes a problem. Some of the older clients have 5-10 files in their respective folders, each with a different cut off date. Because of user error some of these file aren't labeled properly with their correct cutoff dates. This is where Subversion came to mind. Using the revision system would allow for 1 file to be master and have all of its revisions. Has anyone ever tried this with Quickbooks files? I've only used SVN with code for applications making each file size much smaller. How does SVN stand up with larger files like 10-25MB? I'm not exactly sure how SVN handles revisions - does it keep a duplicate of the files and duplicates the disk space space needed?

• Preseeding Ubuntu partman recipe using LVM and RAID

  I'm trying to preseed Ubuntu 12.04 server installation and created a recipe that would create RAID 1 on 2 drives and then partition that using LVM. Unfortunately partman complains when creating LVM volumes saying there no partitions in recipe that could be used with LVM (in console it complains about unusable recipe). The layout I'm after is RAID 1 on sdb and sdc (installing from USB stick so it takes sda) and then use LVM to create boot, root and swap. The odd thing is that if I change the mount point of boot_lv to home the recipe works fine (apart from mounting in wrong place), but when mounting at /boot it fails I know I could use separate /boot primary partition, but can anybody tell me why it fails. Operating system error 2: "2(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)". Database 'Go3D_Retailer' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details. ALTER DATABASE statement failed. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120) Background to this error I've been trying to move my destination logshipping database to another physical server for analysis purposes. Because I do not have active directory set up, I had to hack my process by using the same username/password for both the source and destination servers to get the process to work. Following that, I used this guy's solution to move the destination database to another server. However, this error occurs when I try to bring the database back online. I don't have an E drive on my server and I have no idea why it's trying to open a file from E drive. I have over a 100gb left on my hard disk so it's definitely not a space issue. This sounds like a bug... Any ideas? I'm running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

• Is there a way to know what the Windows Disk Cleanup utility will delete?

  When I run the Disk Cleanup utility that's built into Windows 8, it tells me that it can free up 53GB by deleting 'Temporary Files'. However, a CCleaner analysis on default settings only finds about 300MB worth of space to free up, so I'm wondering what Disk Cleanup has found that CCleaner does not. Note that this question appears to be similar to what I'm asking, but the accepted answer says that 'Temporary Files' refers to %TEMP%. I've already cleared out most of C:\Users\Cam\AppData\Local\Temp, and it now has only 230MB of stuff in it, even with system files showing. So where is this 53GB located? Is there a way to find out what it is? Edit: I should note that this is on a 110GB SSD, so it's almost half the drive. And in fact I'm only using 86GB, so if it's really going to clear out 53GB, that would be more than 60% of the stuff on my C drive. I'm starting to think that Disk Cleanup caches its analysis, and hasn't updated since I started cleaning up the drive earlier today. Although when I run it it says that it's 'Calculating' how much space can be saved, and it takes about 5-10 seconds to do so. Hmmm... Edit2: Here is what my hard drive looks like, according to SpaceMonger (Right click-Open image in new tab, so you can see it properly): You can see why I was starting to think that the 53GB figure is actually wrong. Even if 'Temporary Files' includes my hiberfil and everything in WinSxS (about 13GB total), that would be 26GB, which is only halfway there. Hard to see where there's 53GB of stuff to delete.
