• Simple Binding question, unable to bind to button command in a DataTemplate using MVVM Light Toolkit

  I've been attempting to bind to buttons within a DataTemplate without much success. The button does not fire. Button Click works successfully outside of the DataTemplate. Yet if I create a Click="button_click" the click button is fired. The Button Content binds perfectly as well. Example to illustrate.. Why does the command not fire? Advice on how this should be handled this? The example is a simplified version of my real problem, I am currently not using a Listbox. I only recreated the same problem with a listbox..

• Good book(s) for MMORPG design & implementation?

  I am a long time professional C/C++ programmer (mostly embedded systems) and a hobbyist windows & php hacker. Can anyone recommend a book(s) specifically aimed at designing and (hopefully) implementing an MMORPG? I don't need general how to design or how to code books. Maybe a really good generic games book, but I am not interested in 1st person shooters, I want to know what it takes to implement an MMORPG. Good books, maybe also good URLs. Thanks just searching eBay and Amazon threw up a whole slew of books. Amazon's customer reviews give me an idea of how good they are, and the overview tells me what areas they cover

• Need to open to two excel files and add numbers from them into a third file using vba.

  I have two excel files which has similar formatting and the data map each other from cell b15:h31. Row 15 is heading and so is the column B. I want to read file1 cell by cell and add that cell's content to the corresponding cell in File 2 i.e C16 in file 1 gets added to C16 in file 2, C17 in file 1 to C17 in file 2 and so on. The output goes in file 3 or anything. trying to implement through vba but of no success so far. Does anyone know how to go about it.

  I've noticed that google app engine seems to have a fair amount of downtime where they place the datastore into read-only mode. Frequently this downtime is in the middle of the day. Is this something that is happening only during early development, or is this something that I can expect to be always be occurring? I've developing an application that helps small businesses handle their operations. One thing that it does is take appointments, another is route phone calls. I'd like some suggestions on how to handle times when the datastore is in read-only such as: What if our client is on the phone with the customer and is taking down an appointment and the datastore is in read-only? It would not be acceptable to ask the client to come back later to save, especially if its in the middle of the day. What if there is an incoming call and the application can not store the record or properly route the call due to database writes being unavailable? How are these types of issues normally handled?

  On success, ShellExecute returns a handle. Do we need to close this handle, and if so, how ? According to examples published my Microsoft, we need not close this handle. But the doc of ShellExecute itself is mute on the subject. Can you confirm we indeed do not need to close this handle ? But then, how can a handle be valid and in no need of being closed ??? Which of the following statements is/are true: the handle is invalid and we can't do anything with it; the handle is never freed and there is a (Microsoft-sponsored) memory leak (until the caller program ends); the handle is automatically freed by the system at some time and never reused afterwards (- another kind of resource leak). Only on trying to use it can we know whether it still points to something. what else ?

  This is following my question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2607038/c-how-to-consume-web-service-adheres-to-the-event-based-asynchronous-pattern My program is calling the DoStuffAsync() x many times in a batch, hence the callback will get invoked the same number of times upon OnComplete(). Is there a way to find out when my batch is finished such that I can generate a report on the success/failed results? All I can think of is to have a static count variable for x and deduct 1 every time OnComplete() is called, but its kind of silly and error prone I'm afraid. TIA.

  I am in the midst of doing some non-standard, probably doomed, experiments on a git repository. The goal is to create a remote repository with a truncated history which can still share commits with an internal repository which has a full history. I've had some success using a graft to connect the public history with the private history - when I push from my internal repository, only the post-graft contents are included. So my main question is: what is the simplest way of taking a commit, eliminating its parent and writing a graft in place of the parent? A more general question: is what I'm trying to do going to cause me pain in the long run, do you know if there's a better way?

• Most efficient way to update a MySQL Database on a Linux host with that of an ASP.Net Form on Window

  My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this. I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site. There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!). What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient. I thought I would pick the best brains on SOF to get a different, efficient opinion. Thanks in advance guys...

  I have some grunt tasks to compile files and would like to "recicle" them inside different tasks. I am trying to modify the destination directory without success... My idea is something like: grunt.registerTask('bower', ['compile:index', 'compile:core'], function(){ this.options({dest: 'dist/*.js'}); }); The compile:index task runs good by itself (i.e. when called alone) and has dest: 'index.js, other tasks have other filenames. I would like to change these inside the bowertask, adding a new directory but keeping the filename defined in the original task. Is this possible?

  Hello All: I am trying to run following query in entity framework 3.5 var test = from e in customers where IsValid(e) select e; Here IsValid function takes current customer and validate against some conditions and returns false or true. But when I am trying to run the query it is giving error "LINQ Method cannot be translated into a store expression." Can any body tell me any other approach? One approach I can think of is to write all validation conditions here, but that will make the code difficult to read. Thanks Ashwani

  Hi al, we have 5 tables over which we should query with user search input throughout a stored procedure. We do a union all of the similar data inside a view. Because of this the view can not be materialized. We are not able to change these 5 tables drastically (like creating a 6th table that contains the similar data of the 5 tables and reference that new one from the 5 tables). The query is rather expensive / slow what are our other options? It's allowed to think outside the box.   Does anyone have a nice example of integration between HelpSpot and Fogbugz? We're using HelpSpot as our customer facing software and ticket management, and then if a developer needs to work on a ticket the data will be pushed to Fogbugz. Obviously we can use the Fogbugz push API that Userscape provides, but this only allows you to specify the title of the incident in Fogbugz. Ideally I want to share title, assigned to, category and status in a two-way integration. Do most people just use emails between the two programs, or has anyone come across a nice third party app? • How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. • Loopj Android Async Http - onFailure not fired

  I am using the great async http library from loopj, but I have run into a small snag. If the user has no internet connection or loses their connection, the app just won't return anything. This part is expected, but it also doesn't fire the onFailure method. Also, the code I have used when there is an internet connection does work so there is no problem on the server end. Here is some code that is stripped down to the minimum. Several points he maintains in favour of tables: 1 This is what was taught at the beginning of 10 years of programming & computer science degrees. 2 Large companies use tables to achieve 'technical' things. 3 It saves time I have coded him some examples of CSS exactly matching table based layouts, and provided many links to articles explaining SEO and accessibility benefits. From the perspective of a client, I have been explaining to him that I wouldn't hire someone using outdated methods as their main strategy for layout. As he is my friend and I wish him every success, I believe it is important for him to gain the best start when pitching for work. • How to create a "sidebar" in Umbraco CMS?

  In Umbraco, every page has a content field that you can edit in the admin-area. What I want would be a second content field that I (actually my customer who will be editing the content by himself) can edit on every page. I would then create a masterpage/template that contains the two content areas (the first one as the main content and the second one as the sidebar). At least this is how I would do it. Is this possible or is there even a better approach for having a main content and a separate sidebar on every page?
