    Hi, I'm working on a small academic research about extremely long and complicated functions in the Linux kernel. I'm trying to figure out if there is a good reason to write 600 or 800 lines-long functions. For that purpose, I would like to find a tool that can extract a function from a .c file, so I can run some automated tests on the function. For example, If I have the function cifs_parse_mount_options() within the file connect.c, I'm seeking a solution that would roughly work like: extract /fs/cifs/connect.c cifs_parse_mount_options and return the 523 lines of code(!) of the function, from the opening braces to the closing braces. Of course, any way of manipulating existing software packages like gcc to do that, would be most helpful too.   • How to pass information across domains to ask for newsletter only once?

    Lets assume following scenario, I have two sites: example1.com example2.com When user visits 1 there is a prompt "please signup to a newsletter". Same thing happens when user visits 2. However when navigating from 1 to 2 I don't want signup form to be shown.     I have some Crystal Reports connecting to a Sql Server db that I would like to detect whether the connection is trusted or whether I need to supply the log on info (reports are not supplied by me so I can't control the connect method). If I just blindly supply login credentials, it won't connect if it is a trusted connection.   • PHP 5.3, using old authentication?

    Hi. We're setting up a new webserver with PHP5.3 and are getting the "Error: could not connect: mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication ?" error message. After some google'ing I've found that we should set old passwords = 0 in my.cnf and reset the password(s). But we still have webservers running php 4.x & 5.2 that access the same mysql server (different users & databases), how will these be affected by this ? Will the mysql server be compatible with all the different PHP versions ? Thanks.

  • Comet with multiple channels

    Hello, I am writing an web app which needs to subscribe to multiple channels via javascript. I am using Atmosphere and Jersey as backend. However the jQuery plugin they work with only supports 1 channel. I've start buidling my own implementation. Now it works oke, but when i try to subscribe to 2 channels only 1 channel gets notified. Is the XMLHttpRequest blocking the rest of the XMLHttpRequests?   • WindowsPhone App data connection FAILS in MarketPlace published App but WORKS in Visual Studio development (same XAP)

    Tearing my hair out(!) My last App update has been accepted and released by MarketPlace but the remote server data connection does NOT work/connect from the downloaded App (from MarketPlace). However, the same App (the accepted XAP) when I'm running it from Visual Studio, using the same remote server address works just fine. WHY!... Has anyone else ever run into anything like this? Here's the remote path: http://www.streamcommunication.com/ZenAwaken/DownloadableCollections.xml I can load that to a browser and retrieve the XML When I'm in Visual Studio I can connect via that path and retrieve the file and consume the data BUT!! The exact same XAP which has been accepted and distributed by Windows Phone marketplace FAILS. Is it possible that MarketPlace does something (encryption?) to the XAP that would corrupt the path string? Any thoughts or experiences would be very helpful! Tom

Assuming that I don't actively try to connect to them or otherwise interact with them, is it possible for the owner of that WAP to know that I was there? I'm asking this in the context of my earlier question: Looking for MACs on the network I was talking with a friend about my newfound ability to detect phones (and other devices with MAC addresses) on the network, and he pointed out that it might be useful to detect unknown phones on the network; I could use that data to track down anyone who was in my house and brought a Wi-Fi phone with them. So, if I set up a logging fake WAP with no security or encryption, can I glean any useful information about the devices that come into the house?   • Is it any loose coupling mechanism in Objective-C + Cocoa like C# delegates or C++Qt signals+slots?

    Hello. For a large programs, the standard way to chalenge a complexity is to divide a program code into small objects. Most of the actual programming languages offer this functionality via classes, so is Objective-C. But after source code is separated into small object, the second challenge is to somehow connect them with each over. Standard approaches, supported by most languages are compositon (one object is a member field of another), inheritance, templates (generics) and callbacks. More cryptic techniques include method-level delagates (C#) and signals+slots (C++Qt). I like the delegates / signals idea, since while connecting two objects i can connect individual methods with each over, without objects knowing anything of each over. For C#, it will look like this: var object1 = new CObject1(); var object2 = new CObject2(); object1.SomethingHappened += object2.HandleSomething; In this code, is object1 calls it's SomethingHappened delegate (like a normal method call) the HandleSomething method of object2 will be called. For C++Qt, it will look like this: var object1 = new CObject1(); var object2 = new CObject2(); connect( object1, SIGNAL(SomethingHappened()), object2, SLOT(HandleSomething()) ); The result will be exactly the same. This technique has some advantages and disadvantages, but generally i like it more than interfaces since if program code base grows i can change connections and add new ones without creating tons of interfaces. After examination of Objective-C i havn't found any way to use this technique i like :(. It seems that Objective-C supports message passing perfectly well, but it requres for object1 to have a pointer to object2 in order to pass it a message. If some object needs to be connected to lots of other objects, in Objective-C i will be forced to give him pointers to each of the objects it must be connected. So, the question :). Is it any approach in Objective-C programming that will closely resemble delegate / signal+slot types of connection, not a 'give first object an entire pointer to second object so it can pass a message to it'. Method-level connections are a bit more preferable to me than object-level connection ^_^.

  • Issues querying Access '07 database in C#

    I'm doing a .NET unit as part of my studies. I've only just started, with a lecturer that as kinda failed to give me the most solid foundation with .NET, so excuse the noobishness. I'm making a pretty simple and generic database-driven application. I'm using C# and I'm accessing a Microsoft Access 2007 database. I've put the database-ish stuff in its own class with the methods just spitting out OleDbDataAdapters that I use for committing. I feed any methods which preform a query a DataSet object from the main program, which is where I'm keeping the data (multiple tables in the db). I've made a very generic private method that I use to perform SQL SELECT queries and have some public methods wrapping that method to get products, orders.etc (it's a generic retail database). The generic method uses a separate Connect method to actually make the connection, and it is as follows: private static OleDbConnection Connect() { OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection( @"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=C:\Temp\db.accdb"); return conn; } The generic method is as follows: private static OleDbDataAdapter GenericSelectQuery( DataSet ds, string namedTable, String selectString) { OleDbCommand oleCommand = new OleDbCommand(); OleDbConnection conn = Connect(); oleCommand.CommandText = selectString; oleCommand.Connection = conn; oleCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text; OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(); adapter.SelectCommand = oleCommand; adapter.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey; adapter.Fill(ds, namedTable); return adapter; } The wrapper methods just pass along the DataSet that they received from the main program, the namedtable string is the name of the table in the dataset, and you pass in the query you wish to make. It doesn't matter which query I give it (even something simple like SELECT * FROM TableName) I still get thrown an OleDbException, stating that there was en error with the FROM clause of the query. I've just resorted to building the queries with Access, but there's still no use. Obviously there's something wrong with my code, which wouldn't actually surprise me. Here are some wrapper methods I'm using. public static OleDbDataAdapter GetOrderLines(DataSet ds) { OleDbDataAdapter adapter = GenericSelectQuery( ds, "orderlines", "SELECT OrderLine.* FROM OrderLine;"); return adapter; } They all look the same, it's just the SQL that changes.

    I am setting up a client and exchange project and both are connecting to a remote server. Exchange will connect to the server by EMS connection. While client will connect by FIX. For the aim of building of black box testing, both client and exchange engine will be given some predefined testcases to send and receive to the server. I design the client engine with multithread processing to manipulate many testcases. Actually it is able to run succesfully. For exchange engine, I wonder that multi thread is applicable in the context that the exchange engine just need to publish a message when it received msg from subscribed topic on server.     I'm looking for a Java Profiler for use in a very high demand production environment, either commercial or free, that meets all of the following requirements: Lightweight integration with code (no recompile with special options, no code hooks, etc). Dropping some profiler specific .jars alongside the application code is ok. Should be able to connect/disconnect to the JVM without restarting the application. When profiling is not active, no impact to performance When profiling is active, negligible impact to performance. Very slight degradation is acceptable. Must do all the 'expected' stuff a profiler does - time spent in each method to find hotspots, object allocation/memory profiling, etc. Essentially I need something that can sit dormant in production when everything is fine without anyone knowing or caring that it is there, but then be able to connect to it hassle (and performance degradation) free to pinpoint the hard to find problems like hotspots and synchronization issues.

  • mysql timeout - c/C++

    Guys i'm facing a problem with this code, the problem is the timeout by timeout i mean the time it takes the program to tell me if the server is connected or not. If i use my localhost i get the answer fast, but when i connect to outside my localhost it takes 50sc - 1.5 min to response and the program frezz until it done.   • How can I programmatically block user input for a given time?

    As a person working in computer science working offline to avoid facebook and thelike is not always (meaning hardly ever) possible for me since I mostly have to be online to work. I have tried leechblock and similar things but the problem becomes that at some point I start making systems for myself to hack, which is kind of pointless if oyu have root. I would very much like to try out the method described here. (Short version: reboot your PC every time finish a task or get bored with it) Unlike for the author of this blog my work is mainly done not in screen sessions but in IDEs ans other not-so-fast-to-start-up stuff, meaning a full reboot including loading all my programs will take its time. So, the question is: How can I block all user input and preferrably blank the screen for a given amount of time? The idea would then be to have a keyboard shortcut to activate the script/program (which would probably also have to have root i guess?)

    I have a small PHP/MySQL project in the works and I'm looking for somewhere to host it. My criteria are: Ability to run PHP/MySQL (either natively, or contains the ability to install). Ability to manipulate the web server, so I can make pretty URLs. Not spammy (if you've ever looked for hosting, you know what I mean). Semi-professional - no ridiculous downtime or long response time. I obviously don't need anything spectacular (I'm not aiming to be the next Facebook) but something that doesn't seem cheap. Reasonably priced - obviously this is a side project for fun so I'm not planning on making or dispensing any sort of "serious" revenue.
