  There are a wide variety of Linux distributions, but there are also a wide variety of distributions based on other Linux distributions. The official Ubuntu release with the Unity desktop is only one of many possible ways to use Ubuntu. Most of these Ubuntu derivatives are officially supported by Ubuntu. Some, like the Ubuntu GNOME Remix and Linux Mint, aren’t official. Each includes different desktop environments with different software, but the base system is the same (except with Linux Mint.) You can try each of these derivatives by downloading its appropriate live CD, burning it to a disc, and booting from it – no installation required. Testing desktop environments is probably the best way to find the one you’re most comfortable with.   The sys.dm_server_registry DMV is used to provide SQL Server configuration and installation information that is currently stored in your Windows Registry. It is a very simple DMV that returns only three columns. The first column returned is the registry_key. The second column returned is the value_name which is the name of the actual registry key value. The third and final column returned is the value_data which is the value of the registry key data. Lets have a look at the information this DMV returns as well as some key values from the Windows Registy. • Trash Destination Adapter

  The Trash Destination and this article came from early experiences of using SSIS and community feedback at the time. When developing a package it is very useful to have a destination adapter that does nothing but consume rows with no setup requirement. You often want run a package part way through development, or just add a path so you can set a Data Viewer. There are stock tasks that can be used, but with the Trash Destination all columns are treated as selected automatically (usage type of read-only), so the pipeline knows they are required. It is also obvious that this is for development or diagnostic purposes, and is clearly not a part of the functional design of the package. It is also ideal for just playing around and exploring concepts in SSIS, and is often used in conjunction with the Data Generator Source. Using these two components it is easy to setup a test of an expression in the Derived Column Transformation for example. The Data Generator Source provides some dummy data, and the Trash Destination allows you to anchor the output path and set a Data Viewer to examine the results. It can also be used when performance tuning packages. It is a consistent and known quantity that has no external influences, so it is ideal as a destination when breaking the data flow into sections to isolate a bottleneck. The adapter is really simple to use and requires no setup. Simply drop it onto the pipeline designer and use it to terminate your data flow path. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. Finally, for 2005/2008, you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Trash Destination transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations. Please choose the version to match your SQL Server version, or you can install multiple versions and use them side by side if you have more than one version of SQL Server installed. The data flow object "Konesans ..." is not installed correctly on this computer, this usually indicates that the internal cache of SSIS components needs to be updated. This is held by the SSIS service, so you need restart the the SQL Server Integration Services service. You can do this from the Services applet in Control Panel or Administrative Tools in Windows. You can also restart the computer if you prefer. You may also need to restart any current instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. This is not necessary for SQL Server 2012 as the new SSIS toolbox automatically detects components. If you are still having issues then contact us, but please provide as much detail as possible about error, as well as which version of the the task you are using and details of the SSIS tools installed.

• New Wordpress posts generate 404 error.

  I had a working installation of WordPress, and I recently encountered an issue where when I tried to login to the back-end, the browser would redirect to the login URL of the previous domain WordPress was installed on. I fixed this by reinstalling WordPress, and I can now login to the backend, but any new posts I make, or old posts I have generate 404 errors. Additionally, if I try to navigate to any category page, I again receive a 404 error. I have looked at the wp_posts table of my database, and the GUID field each contains the correct domain name and URL structure. What should I be checking here? Site in question.

• What 'ordinary' packages does 'sudo apt-get purge wine*' removes?

  Ok, here's one silly question - I've actually run that command trying to lose configuraion of current installation of wine, so I can install it from zero. I didn't quite read but I've noticed that some packages that 'shouldn't be uninstalled' were getting uninstalled, like compiz for example... Now, my problem is that I don't know what are the other packages that got uninstalled. I can't enter Ubuntu at all. Help, please. Command was sudo apt-get purge wine*. Thank you. Please be nice; I was really tired :)

• Ubuntu Server 14.04 Apache 2.4 TLSv1.2/TLSv1.1 support

  Recently I upgraded my server from Ubuntu Server 12.04 to Ubuntu Server 14.04 by means of a new installation from scratch. Only one problem remains. In 12.04 Apache 2.2 with mod_ssl supported TLS version 1, 1.1 and 1.2. After upgrading to 14.04 and Apache 2.4, Apache only supports TLS version 1, support for 1.1 and 1.2 is missing. I followed both the migration guide for 2.2 - 2.4 (no changes to the mod_ssl settings) as well as the documentation of mod_ssl regarding the SSLProtocol configuration option. Both SSLProtocol TLSv1.2 TLSv1.1 TLSv1 and SSLProtocol TLSv1.2 do not work. Is there any way to convince Apache to support the new TLS versions as well? Problem seems to be solved now without any change from my side. Apparently libssl was initially compiled without TLSv1.1/TLSv1.2 support.

• ISO booting with grub2 in Ubuntu on an Apple

  I have Ubuntu with grub2 installed in an Apple Macbook pro with dual boot (using rEFIt), and I would like to use grub2 to boot the LiveCD ISO image of a system based in Debian too (CrunchBang). The ISO image is saved in the same hard disk, same partition as Ubuntu. I can easily boot many other LiveCD ISO images, but I cannot boot this one, and I cannot boot the MacOS system, from the grub menu, either. The installation of Ubuntu left a couple of menu entries to boot MacOS, but they never worked. SO I don't know if it is possible to boot them, and how. • Bluetooth drivers for Dell Latitude D830

  I haven’t been using Bluetooth on my D830 before but now I got myself a Bluetooth mouse in order to get rid of the receiver for a wireless mouse. And then I discovered that Bluetooth did not work anymore after I installed Win7. Browsing Dell support pages for a a driver found me one (browsing by computer model etc..). But that drivers does not work. Installation looks ok and everything but no devices are found. i kept looking and found this driver, also at Dells site: http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R231570&formatcnt=1&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=333170 And that one worked!  Problem solved an I am now happily using my Bluetooth mouse instead.

• Why is mysql unable to configure?

  I try to install mysql-server on my Ubuntu vps server, and it's able to install, but not to configure. If it tries to configure I get this: ...fail! invoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.0 (--configure): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mysql-server: mysql-server depends on mysql-server-5.0; however: Package mysql-server-5.0 is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing mysql-server (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: mysql-server-5.0 mysql-server E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Does someone know a solution to this? Btw, my other question can be closed, it's solved, but I cant comment on it anymore.

This is a capture tool that records your actions as you perform them on your workstation, remote desktop, etc.  It's made by the same company that makes SnagIt, etc. http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp I have used this at several customers to record our install and configurations of BizTalk and more - this can come in very handy to help reduce differences in environments (because you can go back and review exactly what you did in the previous environment) as well as to supplement your installation docs.   The product also includes an editing studio and various media types for export. I haven't been paid to write this - I just think the tool is very nice.

After you have downloaded the zip file, unzip it and run the setup file inside.
