• What are my options for Web 2.0 gallery software?

  Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing.   I'm using Google Analytics on a DokuWiki site, which uses a URL parameter to decide what to do with the current page: /page is equivalent to: /page?do=show 1) I want to see some of these "modes", but mostly I'd like them counted as viewing the bare page URL itself. The following are the only ones I want to see separately: /page?do=login /page?do=backlinks /page?do=revisions /page?do=subscribe How do I collapse the unwanted modes to the page itself (/page)? 2) Some modes do something that should really not have a page attached, such as: /page1?do=sitemap /page2?do=sitemap How do I get these to show up without the page part (/?do=sitemap)? 3) What do I do with the search mode? Can I remove the page part from this too, and still find out which page people used the search function on? /page?do=search&id=query+text

• Toggle CNAME entries using PHP?

  Is it possible with PHP to dynamically toggle CNAME entries? For example I have two mirrors with media to be served on my website. Mirror 1 has a monthly bandwidth cap so upon reaching it I want to automatically toggle to mirror 2. I want to use CNAME because the resulting urls appear to be identical to search engines, an SEO friendly approach. If there are SEO friendly alternatives I'd like to hear them as well.

• Registering domain during Christmas holidays

  One of the domain names I tried to register previously has been blocked by a domain grabber two days prior to my own attempt. That was about 1 year ago. The attempt to buy the domain from that person failed due to a totally exaggerated price. So I dropped the issue and watched the domain (offered at sedo.com). As expected there were no more offers, the domain was not sold. Now I learn from the whois database that the registration of that domain name ends on 25 Dec 2012 (Christmas holiday). This raises two questions for me, I fail to find reliable answers on the internet. So maybe someone experienced here can drop a statement or a hint: Is it reasonable that the domain name in question really will be free again when that date mentioned in the whois database up to when the domain is registered has passed? I certainly know that the registration can be prolonged, that is not what I mean. I expect (hope) that that domain grabber does not extend the registration, since it costs money and effort and he failed to sell the domain. Provided this is the case and the domain registration is not prolonged, is that date mentioned reliable? Or might it just be some 'default' date? I would like to try to register that domain name as soon as it is unregistered. Since that domain grabber registered that domain only two days before my own registration attempt I would like to prevent such annoying interference next time. So I ask myself: is it possible to register a domain name on a holiday? I mean not to send an email to my provider to do so on that day or before, but to actually have to process taking place as not to wait for 1-2 days after the unregistration? My own provider which I am very happy with does not offer such service on a holiday (which is perfectly understandable). They are 'still checking' if they can offer something automatic. I researched and did not find an answer to the question if that is possible at all. Is an automatic registration attempt on a holiday possible? Where can I do that? Is that reliable?

  I did a small coding mistake and google indexed my site wrongly. this is correct form: https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/TENGA-CUP-DOUBLE-HOLE but google index my site like this : https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx first I fixed the problem and made a site map and only correct link in it. now I checked webmaster tools and I see this; Total indexed 513 Not selected 544 Blocked by robots 0 so I think this can be caused by double indexes and they looks not selected makes my data not selected. I want to know how to fix this "https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx" links. should I fix in code or should I connect to google to reindex my site. If I should redirect wrong/duplicate links to correct ones, what the way should be? thanks for your time in advance.

  I'm currently working on a website which has to stream audio files. Since bandwidth is always an issue, the file size should be as small as possible. I wonder what audio formats I should provide. MP3 - Most common format but low quality, I don't know if it's even required, since AAC is well supported by the browsers incapable of playing free codecs MP4 AAC - Nice quality / small filesize, supported by Safari / Mobile Devices / IE9 / Flash / Chrome A free codec - well, until recently, there only was Ogg Vorbis, but Ogg Opus is standardized now and it's really good! Questions: Is it time yet to use Opus instead if Vorbis? Firefox supports Opus since version 15, and Opera has support on its roadmap - I guess Chrome will follow in the future too. Do I still have to provide an MP3 file?

• Javascript widgets: do links count as SEO backlinks? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How good is it for SEO if you have a widget that lives on other sites? On my website I offer an option to let users embed information from my site with some kind of "homepage widget". If a user wants to embed it in his website, he basically has to add one line of Javascript to his HTML files like this: <script src="http://mysite.com/myscript.php?some_options_here"></script> Inside the widget, I export some content from my website and of course create a link back to my website. This is done in Javascript with document.write. document.writeln("My great exported content"); document.writeln('<a href="http://mysite.com?ref=widget>Check mysite.com</a>'); I have Google Analytics set up to track whether the links in there get clicked, and they do. Now I am asking myself if Google recognizes these links as valid backlinks from the embedding domain. I know that Googlebot can parse and execute Javascript, but I have not found any references whether these links also count as "normal" backlinks.

• Google is re-indexing pages after redirecting URLs from HTTP to HTTPS incorrectly

  I upgraded my site so that all pages have gone from using HTTP to HTTPS. I didn't consider that Google treats HTTPS pages differently than HTTP. I recreated my sitemap to so that all links now reflect the new HTTPS URLs and let it be for a few days. (Whoops!) Google is now re-indexing all the HTTPS pages. I have about 19k pages on the site, and Google has already indexed about 8k of the new HTTPS pages. The problem is that Google sees all of these as brand new pages when many of them have a long HTTP history. Of course most of you will recognize the problem, I didn't set up a 301 from the old HTTP to the new HTTPS URLs. Is it too late to do this? Should I switch my sitemap back to HTTP URLs and then 301 redirect to the new HTTPS URls? Or should I leave the sitemap as is, and setup 301 redirects anyway... I'm not even sure if Google is trying to reach the HTTP site anymore. Currently the site is doing 303 redirects (from HTTP to HTTPS), although I haven't figured out why yet.

I do redirect to https while I get payment that I doubt about it may cause but not really sure while e-commerce tracking doesn't work properly.   I have to build a new website for my client.. and he needs this stuff: A user generated content website.. where users can upload their own videos.. (i will use a video hosting platform with api like fliqz.com) I must manage a big user system.. where users can create their own "sub-users"... the site must manage paid subscriptions and payments through paypal.. and other payment gateways... So the question is.. i have to use a pre-built CMS and extend it.. or just a good framework? I've been thinking about joomla, drupal and expressionengine... It's not neccesary to use a open source cms... I've looking at drupal.. but is not as easy to understand and extend... Can anyone help me to make a good decision?

• Hosting files with support for file tagging / keywords

  I have a large (approx. 25GB) collection of files I would like to host online for people to view or download. I have a spare computer I can use as a dedicated server for these files. I'm looking for a method of, or piece of software for, hosting my files where I can assign tags or keywords to the files, and people viewing my files online can search the collection via the tags. By way of approximate solutions I've found so far, I see that there is software such as Collectorz.com or Readerware for creating databases of one's books / music / movies, and these databases can be searched by tags or keywords, and the databases can be made available and searchable online; this would suit my purposes except that my files are not necessarily books, music, or movies, and I want the files themselves accessible online, not a database describing my files. A commercially-available solution like the ones above would be acceptable, but I'd prefer to have the whole setup under my control (i.e. I'd like to either implement it by hand, or use commercial software that doesn't rely on using the company's servers, paying them a continued fee, etc.). The current extent of my internet experience is designing a few Google Sites, so I know there's a fair chance I won't understand the answers I receive, but I'm always happy to have a summer project :)

  I need to generate a report for only the Americas in Google Analytics. When I create an advanced segment that includes Continent Exactly Matching Americas I get one number, If I create the segment that includes sub-Continent region Includes America I get a slightly different number, And if I look at all visits but choose Demographicslocationand segment by sub-continent region I get yet a 3rd number! (Note: this is because it also includes Caribbean) All are only different by around 1% of traffic. What is the most accurate way to do this, or should I just pick a way and be consistent?

  I need to select dynamic id using JQuery, and once I select it then I need to do some action on it. What I need to do is to create on click for that element. • Dynamically rewrite URLs upon the user's selection - is it possible?

  In my PHP based web application, there's a form that generates a URL according to the user's selection. The form has 7 different fields, each one of them affects the final URL, none of them is mandatory. The final URL can be: /field1/user_setting_of_field1/field3/user_setting_of_field3/field6/user_setting_of_field6/ or just: /field4/user_setting_of_field4 these URLs should be rewritten to- /results.php?field1=user_setting_of_field1&field3=user_setting_of_field3&field6=user_setting_of_field6 and: /results.php?field4=user_setting_of_field4 Is it possible to create a single rewrite rule that will cover these variations? I'd hate to create different rewrite rule for every possible scenario, it'll take forever... I'm currently developing the app on a Windows machine with IIS 7.5, but will eventually deploy it to an Apache server. Is it possible in both? I currently need to solve it for the IIS environment, and later on for Apache.
